Because Anna, cold, emotionless, near-robotic Anna, looked at the Flagellants and was flatly incapable of considering them anything of worth in combat, and considered them drains on resources without corresponding reward in battle. As such, she took it upon herself to refine and remake what she considered essentially defective and make them capable of contributing in a manner that might prove statistically relevant in the battle to come.

It took her a moment, even when her parents arrived, to mentally reassess and locate the correct catalogue of memories and emotions displayed by others so that she could determine how she should actually respond, as well as how they in particular were responding.

She does not get sad. She does not feel pity. She does not feel guilty. She technically remembers what it was to feel those things, but she has to actively go back in her own head and memories, and essentially 'look up' the definition of those emotions with a few photographs to look at. Whenever she is not actively prompting herself to do so, like when she is around family and friends, this is not a process she is actively maintaining.
Well, that's a disturbing way of putting it. What it took to come up with an "upgrade" to Flagellants.

All the more reason for me to not really want to look like we're sanctioning or approving this. LadySinesanitate's point that it would look like Freddy, the big Sigmar-blessed guy, who approved this (or possibly came up with this) might lend the idea more mythos and backing than it actually had.

i.e. People will look at how it came about and go "Well, Freddy, well-known all-around good guy and major Sigmarite dude, thought this was okay -- if in a huge crisis -- so maybe..." The part where this idea was created by his emotionless daughter, probably will be a little bit glossed over in future histories. Or in other words, what you do and how you do it (and who does it) can matter. Because of how people put other people on pedestals or look to them for leadership or inspiration or for setting examples.

... Ironically, this sort of decision might probably be easier to swallow if it were Anna or Ori alone in charge of the battle? While I'd probably still argue against it, it'd probably be from the perspective of not wanting an emotionally-frozen or slightly-psychopathic person to go a bit further, and preferring to keep them closer to the straight and narrow. But, like, there's at least the optics of "If somebody who is known for being intimidating as hell and an unfeeling frozen machine did it, maybe it's not the best glorification of such an idea." A sort of "Damn, look at what the scary Hohenzollern did" reaction. Whereas Frederick might get a "Well, if the Sigmar-blessed guy okay'd it..." reaction instead.

Hmm...

I wonder what Magnus (the Pious, I mean) would think of it. I'd... like to talk to him about it, if we wind up doing it, and if we both wind up surviving this. Asking what we ought to have done, or what he would have done instead, and so on.
I think if we're calling knights we should leave the Bull Warriors in place and call up the ones from Wulfenburg. The capital is further from the present conflict and well defended besides, while the Bull Warriors are based in an area that is less well defended and closer to the conflict (and thus better able to protect the vulnerable if the beastmen decide to strike now)

Sure, I'll vote for that. Wasn't sure which or what plan to vote for, just mainly was voting on one topic and unsure of the others.

This is the best option Plus we should send a valor tank or 2 and maybe keep the Ironblaster in case we get hydras

It's an 'in flux' sort of thing. You can call the militia, if you like, but that will pull them all out of their settlements throughout the province. Merchant guards are guarding themselves and their merchants, and you can try conscripting them, but that likely won't go well. Nobles are shoring up their own defenses, rallying to defend their castles and lands alongside the militia.
Fair enough, but at least some of those people are bound to be in Salkalten and so should be accounted for while preparing for it's defence.
You are greeted at the city gates by your former Greatsword, now Prince of Salkalten, Waldemar von Sterneck and some of his personal soldiery. It is the right of the nobility to assemble and retain such men, who are themselves not counted neither amongst the Salkalten Guard, the militia, nor the armies proper.
These guys for example. They are personal troops of the Prince of Salkalten. They are bound to be present if it is attacked. Similarily, this is a major trading city, at least some of the merchants are bound to have men present. Lastly, we evacuated our coastal population to Salkalten. At some of those people should have militia training. They could be used as well.
As such, I would argue that we should have some irregulars when fighting in Salkalten without the need to call them from other places. And if so it would be rational for us to take stock of what we have.

I differentiate between Grail Pilgrims and Battle Pilgrims. The former are the suicidal, insane, crush Grail Knights to death/refuse them medical treatment out of misplaced fervor as they prop them up in reliquaries, sorts. The Battle Pilgrims are the ones that are actually trained, religious templars, with armor and weapons/shields, formations, with presence of mind to act on the field of battle in some accordance of sense.

The sort of organizational equivalent of Templar Knights of Sigmar versus Flagellants, basically. But obviously not in those terms, not least of all because it's...well, Bretonnia.
Ah, understood.

The thought that it [mined Flagellants] would seem far more Frederick-made/heartily endorced rather than Frederick-allowed after Anna came up with it is not unreasonable. However, it does follow from that point that - and as myself, I can say this with certainty - Anna would be able to logically come to the same conclusion, based on the expressions of her parents. As such, it is entirely within the bounds of possibility that she would afterwards make sure that her parents knew to publicize the fact that she came up with it and then to utilize Frederick's inadvertent/semi-passive influence over the Cult of Sigmar and the greater Empire to de-emphasize use of Flagellants in such a manner.

This is because, from Anna's perspective, the usage of Flagellants in general is a failure of resource management. Clearly, they should be seconded away to Shallyan asylums, carefully managed by those capable of it in fields they could still provide use in, such as agriculture or something similar. They are, again, wholly worthless to her as combatants, whereas she believes that they could be of more use if their instability could either be ameliorated or at least suppressed somewhat through various means. Not all priests, for instance, need to be Warrior Priests, and the Shallyans could use volunteers capable of that strange thing called 'compassion' due to experiencing troubles themselves, especially with the work she's put into creating at least crude but functional prosthetics. So on and so forth.

But overall, she is intellectually capable of realizing, now that she's actively utilizing the Emotion Encyclopedia, that her father might not enjoy the idea of widespread proliferation of such a tactic, and would be willing to fully take on the heat for it. After all, it's not like she's capable of caring what most other people think.

@torroar

Can we even send the Soup Tank and Ironblaster? Are there people available to man them competently?

The soup tank's usage can be taught to some halfling volunteers. There is a much higher risk of damage/explosions etc. though due to lack of experienced engineering personnel.

The...ah, actually, yeah, the Ironblaster, no. The Ironblaster requires dedicated engineering personnel. My bad, ya'll, shoulda caught that one.

[X] Plan: Defence in Depth + Allow

We kinda dug ourselves into this type of choice by agreeing to use those "troops".
But I'll take those two choices every time, considering we face extinction or worse.

Also, against sending anyone outside of Ostland, as soon we'd have Beastmen to worry about.

Volunteers only. They're going to try either way now that Anna's put the idea In their head. The last thing we need is some idiots thieving gunpowder to try and DIY it.
I agree with this.... She already gave them the idea and it is almost certain more than a few will try to recreate it to potentially disastrous results.... At least this way we have some control over safety and can ensure that they won't try it on their own where it can hurt others

can we have an action next turn about the soup tank to either refit it to be safer and more effective with our new understanding of the tech or retire it to a museum/ reliquary and build a new one altogether taking advantage of the latest advancements ?
