Yeah I'm willingly to try and get rid of the abuser trait and we always let another person helm the ship in the meantime. And well a Drug abuser willing to risk doing unknown and potentially fatal Narcotics is not someone I want in command of a research vessel.

[X] (Elect) No, let democracy play out.

And well I say let Democracy play it's part here.

Oh okay that's sorta too deep into the substance abuse rabbit hole :0

"I just can't believe you would undercut me like this, Soph", you mumble through a smile as the cameras flash. The results have been announced, and the cameras are very excited to see a handoff of power between two old friends.

"Oh stop whining, it'll be good for both our careers," she hisses back, waving for the assembled press.

In spite of your expressed wishes, Sophie had thrown her hat into the ring to replace you, largely as a way to make sure Captain Dragomirov didn't take the seat. By a technicality in one of the UN bylaws, that means you are now Secretary General.

[NEW CIV LEADER: Sophie Leboef (52, Expansionist (reduce space station cost), Home in the Sky (reduce space station upgrade cost, Substance Abuser (shorter lifespan)).

Previous leader Cordelia Whifield (52, Agrarian Upbringing (improve food output), Stubborn (slower XP gain) becomes planetary governor.]

Dr. Ngwanya's preliminary report on the deployment of geothermal fracking techniques in space are encouraging. Her team is now focusing on improving asteroid deployment specifically. [Technology: Geothermal Fracking complete. Technology: Long-Range Mineral Scanners being researched.]

Captain Reid has returned to Earth, somewhat resentful but willing to at least try to get clean.

I will begin asking for rolls in the thread for her progress through rehab! In the meantime, should someone else take command of the ISS Einstein?
[] (Capt) No, have faith in Captain Reid to get clean quickly.
[X] (Capt) Axel Schwartz, 29, Meticulous (higher anomaly discovery chance)
[] (Capt) Carmen Solano, 46, Adaptable (faster experience gain)
[] (Capt) Simon Dufresne, 36, Biology Expert

"Huh. So Corie was right about the dead aliens." Exoplanetary Secretary Lebouef scans a report from Captain Wang in the Dimis system, in which he details his discovery of remnants of former habitation. And not just an industrial society that destroyed itself, as has been seen previously, but a fully spacefaring civilization. Enough of the alien language has been translated to know they referred to themselves as "Grunur".

Doctor Chamberlain has jumped at the opportunity to collaborate on this new discovery, and has begun a massive catalog of what he refers to as 'biodiversity studies' ahead of future Grunur-related data. [Technology: Selective Defoliants complete. Technology: Biodiversity Studies (more productive sociobiology studies) being researched.]

Precursors: The Grunur discovered! New archaeological site discovered in Dimis. Divert Captain Wang to study it instead of surveying?
[X] (Wang) Yes
[] (Wang) No

Can I get one person to roll a d10 for Captain Reid? :)

Is Axel a redhead?

Brown hair, hair shaved on the sides of his head, with a full beard

If anyone feels like rolling for Beatrice's rehab I'll use the results in-universe in order :)

A construction fleet is immediately redirected to build the infrastructure needed for Captain Wang's archaeological expedition; he will continue surveying until the support is in place.

The freshly minted Captain Schwarz salutes Secretary Lebouef as he heads out to complete the survey of Uskion.

Exoplanetary Secretary Lebouef stares glumly at the spreadsheets arrayed on the screen before her. "Corie, how the hell did you keep all these plates spinning?" she asks, clearly exasperated.

"You have to know who to talk to. Have you been keeping up with Arnold Neuman about the starbase subsidy program?" Secretary Whitfield asks from across the desk.

Sophie groans. "No, I keep meaning to have lunch with him but things keep coming up."

Without the Charismatic trait, it is harder to keep multiple Edicts running - your edict capacity is only 25. Which, if any, should be active? Note that each point over your Edict fund reduces Unity generation by one point. You currently produce ~90/month and spend 18 on leaders.
[X] (Edict) Fortify the Border (+2 starbases without upkeep penalty, cost: 18)
[X] (Edict) Map the Stars (+25% survey speed, +10% anomaly discovery, +1 hyperlane scanner range, cost: 18)

[] (Edict) Veneration of Saints (+20% priest output (currently producing 9 Unity/mo), population more likely to be Spiritualist in their values, cost: 18)
[] (Edict) Capacity Subsidies (+50% energy credits from technicians (currently producing 70 energy/mo), cost: 54)
[] (Edict) Research Subsidies (+10% from researchers (currently producing 49 research/mo), cost:54)

Videos recorded by the Azophi's drones have gone viral on the interstellar net, showing a gigantic crater on one of the moons in the Alassia system. The crew's data suggests the impact was caused not by a huge asteroid, but by a relatively small object traveling at substantial fractions of the speed of light. A nearby "hyperparticulate cloud", near one of the planet's Lagrange points with its star, has led some of the physicists on the crew to speculate that the object in question may have been an ancient spaceship exiting hyperspace. This would imply the civilization that built the ship had much greater understanding of hyperspace phenomena than you, since the ship in question would have needed to emerge deep inside the gravity well of Alassia.

Author Note:
There was a previous segment here about ancient geothermal mining stations in Alassia. Unfortunately, that timeline did not get saved. :(

I don't feel like going over our edict cost so I'll pick this one.

There's thousands of Unity per month in the lategame, but anomalies are limited in how many you get and surveys are time-sensitive. Also we're ahead of the curve on having a perk already.
