In Neo Domino it is called the gateway league. Where you seek the most noted prestige and reputation.
It is not the most lucrative tournament in which to compete. Several of the highest ranked duelists in the city play for far greater stakes in the annual championships and other events, yet in this, there is a matter of pride on the line. The people of Neo Domino play dozens if not hundreds of duels each year in the lesser matchups, and as the big day approaches, the greatest of their number move forwards, until only eight remain.
It is for this position that so many people compete and for which the tournament is named.
Working your way up the ranks can net a modest sum and any number of prizes but the real value in the tournament is in being one of these six finalists, the Six who will watch the walls, and stand at the now-proverbial gate atop the bridge connecting Neo Domino to Sattelite.
The Six who will defend the city against those degenerates who would seek to sneak past it's walls...
---------
In Satellite it is called the endurance.
They have tried to hold formal competitions in the past, to distribute their Six tickets for the tournament to those decided as the best in an official capacity only, but always people would sneak around. Duels behind each others backs, tickets changing hands in the dark of night.
The Endurance is two weeks of utter chaos. The tickets are handed down, and then the challenges begin. The strong flock to the ticket holders themselves, determined to take what they want, dueling ferociously for the ticket while the weak battle each other, all trying to earn better cards in an effort to achieve a measure of strength of their own.
Each ticket is a chance at the throne, a chance to win one's way out of satellite and leave this miserable life behind. Some win their tickets and hold them by strength, some luck into them and keep them through cunning and trickery. However the winners are decided, in the end, be it by hook or by crook, Six people hold the tickets.
Six duelists will go forth to challenge the might of the shining city, and have the chance to earn their way forwards to a brighter future.

Once, a time ago, the tournament was held on the bridge itself between Domino and Satellite, each duel taking place before the great gate that marked the midpoint, but as the terrifying Psychic Duelists came to prominence the practice was discontinued after a satellite competitor inadvertently killed her opponent by hurling them off the edge. Today, the tournament switches which side of the bridge it is on each year, and this year it is in Domino, at the Raefield Winston Stadium.
The entrants from Satellite are brought across ahead of the rabble while the streets are still being prepared, but then, once the stadium is established, the common people of Satellite are permitted to cross the bridge and make their way there under careful watch from security forces. Thousands line the seats on their side while thousands more set themselves up in a great makeshift tent city outside the complex, watching the giant screens that hang from the building's edge.
Below the main stage, the competitors are permitted to mingle with each other in a vast network of waiting rooms and private areas. While the Raefield stadium is only ever used for this tournament once ever two years and hardly needs such extensive facilities, it was a passion project by the inventor of the momentum engine that powers both Domino and Satellite and thus it is much larger than it needs to be. Legend has it that the original blueprints are even lost, as those in Domino's administration archives do not appear to be anywhere near consistent with the true scale of what lies within and beneath this stadium. However, few stray too far. It wouldn't do to be late to your assigned match would it?
There is a tingling in the air as the sorting machine finally resolves the initial pairings...
The first match comes up on the screen. The woman in the picture looks like she would fit better in Satellite than in Domino yet apparently she hails from the brilliance rather than the blackness.
Her name is Lilith Visano, disowned daughter of an upper class Domino family, turned to the less reputable side of the shining city's dueling scene after losing the access her connections had given her. She is capable and cruel in equal measure.
Her opponent is Leon, formerly of Domino, his family name disgraced and his person orphaned by the cruelty of satellite.
The sides of the field are open to competitors wishing to take a closer look at the action than the cameras or the stands will give them, but while two of the Domino competitors are heading out there - a young and timid looking blue-eyed girl and a tall and slender woman with hair that seemed closer to silver than the white is appeared to be at first glance - the rest appear mostly content to lounge. Meanwhile, one of the satellite competitors goes in the opposite direction, a girl with piercing red gaze who has apparently chosen to wander deeper into the facility.
