Walking the Endless Corridors
In Neo Domino it is called the gateway league. Where you seek the most noted prestige and reputation.

It is not the most lucrative tournament in which to compete. Several of the highest ranked duelists in the city play for far greater stakes in the annual championships and other events, yet in this, there is a matter of pride on the line. The people of Neo Domino play dozens if not hundreds of duels each year in the lesser matchups, and as the big day approaches, the greatest of their number move forwards, until only eight remain.

It is for this position that so many people compete and for which the tournament is named.

Working your way up the ranks can net a modest sum and any number of prizes but the real value in the tournament is in being one of these six finalists, the Six who will watch the walls, and stand at the now-proverbial gate atop the bridge connecting Neo Domino to Sattelite.

The Six who will defend the city against those degenerates who would seek to sneak past it's walls...

---------

In Satellite it is called the endurance.

They have tried to hold formal competitions in the past, to distribute their Six tickets for the tournament to those decided as the best in an official capacity only, but always people would sneak around. Duels behind each others backs, tickets changing hands in the dark of night.

The Endurance is two weeks of utter chaos. The tickets are handed down, and then the challenges begin. The strong flock to the ticket holders themselves, determined to take what they want, dueling ferociously for the ticket while the weak battle each other, all trying to earn better cards in an effort to achieve a measure of strength of their own.

Each ticket is a chance at the throne, a chance to win one's way out of satellite and leave this miserable life behind. Some win their tickets and hold them by strength, some luck into them and keep them through cunning and trickery. However the winners are decided, in the end, be it by hook or by crook, Six people hold the tickets.

Six duelists will go forth to challenge the might of the shining city, and have the chance to earn their way forwards to a brighter future.

---------

Once, a time ago, the tournament was held on the bridge itself between Domino and Satellite, each duel taking place before the great gate that marked the midpoint, but as the terrifying Psychic Duelists came to prominence the practice was discontinued after a satellite competitor inadvertently killed her opponent by hurling them off the edge. Today, the tournament switches which side of the bridge it is on each year, and this year it is in Domino, at the Raefield Winston Stadium.

The entrants from Satellite are brought across ahead of the rabble while the streets are still being prepared, but then, once the stadium is established, the common people of Satellite are permitted to cross the bridge and make their way there under careful watch from security forces. Thousands line the seats on their side while thousands more set themselves up in a great makeshift tent city outside the complex, watching the giant screens that hang from the building's edge.

Below the main stage, the competitors are permitted to mingle with each other in a vast network of waiting rooms and private areas. While the Raefield stadium is only ever used for this tournament once ever two years and hardly needs such extensive facilities, it was a passion project by the inventor of the momentum engine that powers both Domino and Satellite and thus it is much larger than it needs to be. Legend has it that the original blueprints are even lost, as those in Domino's administration archives do not appear to be anywhere near consistent with the true scale of what lies within and beneath this stadium. However, few stray too far. It wouldn't do to be late to your assigned match would it?

There is a tingling in the air as the sorting machine finally resolves the initial pairings...

The first match comes up on the screen. The woman in the picture looks like she would fit better in Satellite than in Domino yet apparently she hails from the brilliance rather than the blackness.

Her name is Lilith Visano, disowned daughter of an upper class Domino family, turned to the less reputable side of the shining city's dueling scene after losing the access her connections had given her. She is capable and cruel in equal measure.

Her opponent is Leon, formerly of Domino, his family name disgraced and his person orphaned by the cruelty of satellite.

The sides of the field are open to competitors wishing to take a closer look at the action than the cameras or the stands will give them, but while two of the Domino competitors are heading out there - a young and timid looking blue-eyed girl and a tall and slender woman with hair that seemed closer to silver than the white is appeared to be at first glance - the rest appear mostly content to lounge. Meanwhile, one of the satellite competitors goes in the opposite direction, a girl with piercing red gaze who has apparently chosen to wander deeper into the facility.

The Cast
Leon would enter the arena, looking at his sister, his friend, his duel spirit or helpful hallucination and smiling at the cyber dragon "Ha...How long has it been since you'v seen a adoring crowd?...Let's show them that Mom's Cyber Dragons have been reborn Infinity." to which the duel spirit would nod and say in a sisterly teasing tone in her synthetic voice before taking her leave for the duel "Today is the first step to realizing your dream, try not to screw it all up in the first round okay?~" Leon stepped out onto the Arena, putting on a grin and looking at the crowd then at his opponent noting quickly she was quite the looker even if he had heard nasty things about her, saying dramatically "So you think you're going to beat me? Like hell am I letting you humiliate me like a defective piece of scrap on the first day!Nah, instead you're going to be the one going to the scrap heap."

Shanna's head jerked around, the cheap sandals on their feet clacking with every step. No matter where they looked everything was different. It was new, it was clean, it was state of the art. Everything said that they didn't belong. Not with their baggy clothes, cheap but durable sandals, or the duel disk that looked like (and had) been cobbled together out of spare parts. It was without a doubt intentional. Last year it had been the Dominos who were out of place, but they looked like angels coming down from heaven, lion tamers walking into a den of beasts... Utterly in control and owning the fact that they didn't belong.

Shanna didn't feel like that. There was a roar to their left and with a turn of the head, Shanna noticed their new yet frequent companion/delusion. The Phantom Dragon/Wyrm of the Wind, Pulao. "I hope you're happy," Shanna muttered, absently pulling the top card from the deck and sure enough... Pulao's roar of response could have been anything, but it still felt more comforting than not. If they were going crazy, it was still how they had gotten to here. How even if they were only going out there to embarrass themselves that they still had what had gotten them this far... Even if that was more a one-way ticket to crazy town.

Shanna decided to head to the sides of the ring, to get a better feel of the atmosphere. They walked along, the roar of the crowd nearly defining... The weight of every single gaze heavy on their back. It was utterly oppressive. How could anyone be able to keep their back straight with it all baring down? They leaned against the railing for support, eyes focused on the two in the middle, biting on their thumb. Between the bags under their eyes and the way their hair hid their eyes... It might look like their eyes had become black shadows.

This might be the only game they had to figure out what was happening. They had to make it count, especially if it showed any surprises.

"Wonderful... If you're the best of the scum then this should be simplicity itself." Lilith gave a disinterested look in Leon's direction, rolling her eyes as he chattered, smirking. She held out her duel disk, listening to the hum as it activated, it's own systems synchronizing with the arena's projectors.

"Then again... It figures that satellite would turn up a crazy one every once in a while."

She eyed the crowd as she shuffled her cards, slotting them into the disk with a sigh as she listened to the roar of the crowd. One, two, three, four, five... Her opening hand was drawn as the screens tossed the coin, a little animated piece with the duellists portraits on each side. Her face landed up, and her smile broadened as she raised her voice, ensuring the thousands of microphones arranged around the arena could pick her up. "Well then, I'll do you a kindness and let you go first." Lilith fanned her cards out, eyeing their potential.

"Try not to make this boring for me boy..."

It might look like their eyes had become black shadows.

This might be the only game they had to figure out what was happening. They had to make it count, especially if it showed any surprises.

Despite Shanna's worries, they would see easily that both those standing upon the stage held themselves upright even beneath the weight of so much attention. The young man who spoke in a hush to his cards and the haughty woman who held him as challenger. For the former it seemed ignorance plain and simple, while for the latter, it was undoubtedly arrogance. He simply did not realize the full extent of the weight that was laid upon him and so did not suffer beneath it while she believed without a doubt that she was equal to it and so did not deign to let it stagger her.

The coin was tossed, the cards were drawn. Next to Shanna the two Domino girls who'd also come out here watched intently, the young blue-eyed one staring with all the intensity of a scientist presented with a new conundrum while the silver-haired woman had an almost detached air, not quite dispassionate, merely... Distant. As though she was not completely watching the imminent duel itself but rather something else happening alongside it.

For a moment, Shanna would feel a little tingle crawl up their spine, A sense of being watched that came and went, and yet, no eyes were on them. Pulao would feel it too in the same moment, passing as quickly as it had come...

Jin looks around himself, still a bit twitchy from the dash to get to the pickup with his ticket still on him. He had waited until there was a fight near the pickup and then used that as an excuse to approach it. Of course he gave the wounded basic treatment, but then it was a dash to get there without taking a stray blow or getting stopped in the unmitigated chaos. So many people trying to get in, most with counterfeit tickets, some with counterfeits they didn't know were counterfeits. Luckily his grave robbing habits had him used to getting out of a place quickly without getting caught.

It was interesting to see how clean the stadium was. Not a bit of corroded metal or dirt in sight. For now he just surveyed the stadium and provided refreshments, eating his fill of the sweets with the manners his former teacher had drilled into him. The disheveled nature of his doctor outfit and way he carefully watched his deck gave away his nature as a member of the Satellite contingent.

He watches the first match intently, he was curious to see the matchup. The people running this likely knew at least rumors of how each of the Satellite party's decks worked. Would they intentionally try to force bad matchups to flatter Domino, or just leave it to chance? The record was stacked somewhat in Domino's favor, but he wasn't sure how much of that was simply having more resources and how much was the organizers wanting to keep their sponsors happy. And the fact that Domino residents weren't unknown to come back after already winning once.

Shanna's teeth sank a bit further into the skin when the alien sensation hit their body. A quick scan of what they could see didn't point to anyone in particular. Though that wasn't comforting. If anything, it just proved that there was something more to what was going on than what had been shown so far. They cursed softly as they shook and suckled the tender nerves. How nuts. Whatever was going on, they were now stuck blind and in the middle of the field of fire. They grimaced.

Then they turned their back to the early game, still keeping an ear out for any major early play while focusing attention back onto the stands and lights above. Duel Monsters made you free huh? It never felt like it lately. Growing up, it had been one of the few points of joy but the adults always seemed to mean something else. But here and now... It was representing power and they didn't feel too free. The people up there seemed so far away. And yet all too close at the same time. They didn't have allies up there, not really. Too many glaring that they hadn't been chosen, many worried what would happen if those down here did win... most of the rest not rooting for the "visiting team."

Enemies to the front and sides, a wall to the back. Suddenly, Shanna smiled. They should really know better.

"Then again... It figures that satellite would turn up a crazy one every once in a while."

She eyed the crowd as she shuffled her cards, slotting them into the disk with a sigh as she listened to the roar of the crowd. One, two, three, four, five... Her face landed up, and her smile broadened as she raised her voice, ensuring the thousands of microphones arranged around the arena could pick her up. "Try not to make this boring for me boy..."
Leon would scowl and say as he deployed his duel disk it automatically shuffled his cards as he drew five "Oh you will regret that Lilith." He looked at his hand and smirked, saying "Well then, if I'm going first...I activate the effect of Galaxy Soldier from my hand, revealing Cyber Dragon Core and sending it to the grave to special summon it in defense mode!"

As he did, with a flourish, the core showing for a moment before shattering as a shining warrior appeared, kneeling with his arms up and Leon would smile "But that ain't all, I summon Cyber Dragon Drei" he slammed the card down as the majestic cyber dragon apeared, it's synthetic roar one of pride as Leon activated the effect" Now I activate the effect of Drei when he's summoned, making all Cyber Dragons I control, in which case just Drei, Level 5! Now I overlay Cyber Dragon Drei with Galaxy Soldier!" The two would come together forming a shining light as he called out"

Let them open the overlay network, so a superior machine can come through, Cyber Dragon Nova...And yet I am not done yet..."He said with a pride in his voice as he pointed to the sky and cried out, familiar words finding their way from his heart to his lips as he held a pose so familiar to him in the back of his memory " I call upon the queen of cyber dragons, bathe the overlay network in your holy light and dispel even blackest night! ascend and bring my foe to their destined annihilation, Xyz evolution, Cyber Dragon Infinity!"

Leon called out, beckoning his friend to the field, instead of Nova, Infinity came to the field and let out a majestic cry to announce her presence, staring down at Lillith as Leon set down two other cards a Fiendish Chain and Dark Bribe "Now, after two face downs, I end my turn"

Leaning backwards on the railings outside the stadium, holding a simple ticket in one hand, Emilia smirked softly as she watched people run to and forth throughout the great stadium before her. The rich from Neo Domino stepping forth in elegant clothing that would cost more than an average Satellite resident would earn in a year. The poor from Satellite watching with anger and envy, cheap fabrics and patched over holes marking their garments. For herself she looked to be somewhere between the two; the expensive clothing of Neo Domino yet patched and modified in the style of Satellite. What was once an elegant floor length dress for someone shorter than her, now merely reaching her knees. Markings like tattoos etched on in charcoal around the neckline, the symbols resembling barbed wire and beasts, a representation of how Satellite was treated and a promise of how she would step beyond that. No longer a trapped beast, if she were an animal, she would be one that inspired fear and horror in those before it!

Her smirk shrinking into merely a slight grin Emilia stepped forth, bouncing off the railing, she walked silently into the lobby of the stadium. Ignoring how the others surrounding her reacted she presented her ticket and walked forth between the crowds preparing for the first match. Some Domino woman and a boy from Satellite. The crowd mixed between cheers and jeers for each competitor, a roaring tide and paradoxical humanity was almost nostalgic. After so long wandering the world, free from the petty factions and classism of her home it was almost amusing. Learning so much about humanity, about combat, about dueling. The discoveries she had made, what she had learnt in the depths of Peru; what secrets the Aztec had left behind within their Nazca Lines...

As she stood within the box for competitors free from the surrounding beasts compelled by their petty concerns such as pride or anger; she could hear what was almost static in her ears. A deep buzzing that sent agony deep into her mind, for just a moment she almost blacked out, white hot pain filling her head. Then a soft voice filled her mind, same as it had since she had found those cards deep in Peru, the quiet, almost innocent voice of a young girl. What it truly was couldn't be more different. An immense spider, black with blood red markings occupied her shoulder at the size of a huge tarantula; almost see through it resembled a ghost.
"So. My cute little host has entered this tournament of hers." A sound that from any other form would have been a childish giggle emanated from the creature.
"I hope you've prepared the proper rites, this will be the first proper meal I've had in a while. Of course once you defeat whatever pitiful fool they offer to you." Slightly irritated by the fading pain and her shoulder pets cryptic comments, Emelia shifted her head to face the spirit, "Are you still here Miss Hallucination? I thought you'd finally faded with your little friends once I left Peru. I have no idea what you mean by rites or a meal, you're just an irritating brain tumor or something."

The pain reappeared, harsher than ever. An all encompassing agony that nearly forced Emilia to cry out. The cute girlish voice had disappeared; replaced by a hate filled screech. The sound somewhere between an insects clicking and the agonised screams of the damned,
" I have accepted your reluctance to obey out of pity for your ignorance. Yet now my patience is being tested Meat Suit, with the advent of our freedom nigh. I tire of worthless opposition from you! You will obey your betters, your true Gods. We who were eternally sealed beneath the earth have use for you. For now at least. You best ensure your usefulness remains longer than my temper! Obey petulant child of man and ensure that once the time comes we shall have sufficient sacrifices to embody but a fragment of our true glory!" Hissing filled Emilias ears, the rage of Uru forcing her to grip the railings until her knuckles were white and her nails drew blood from her palms.
"You desired victory, to be remembered. We shall ensure that you shall be, but only if you accept your position and grasp victory and sacrifices to our might!"

As soon as it appeared the wrath and hate faded from the spider, the agony faded and Emilia straightened up once again. Ignoring how she had felt but a moment ago, a balm of peace and calm filled her form.
"Thank you. Oh mighty Uru, I shall seize victory for you and ensure whatever rites you need fulfilling are complete. Just please, don't do that again. If I'm reduced to that state again, I won't be able to duel at my best. Will I? And you need me to gather victories for you don't you?" A soft giggling once again filled her ears, the calmer and childish voice returned.
"Oh don't worry little host, only bad girls get punished. You won't be a bad girl again will you? You just need to remember your position don't you? I heard that humans need a God that makes them remember that it is in charge through miracles. I, the Black Spider of Supremacy will treat you well, don't worry. Just remember what I asked you to do, okay?" The buzzing left her ears, the voice faded from her mind as the spider on her shoulder faded into naught but a mist of red.

Shrugging her shoulders and briefly stretching, the agony still gone even as drops of blood left her palms to stain the floor beneath her. Emilia stood tall and leant once again over the railings watching the match to come, after all; to escape feeling that agony again, to obtain her fondest wish. She would need to gather any tool she could to grasp victory and appease the bipolar abomination that treated her how it did...

Okay what the HELL just happened? Shanna stood almost in shock looking at a monster and method that they'd never seen nor heard of before. They almost wanted to call bullshit, but the duel disks were registering it and there was less "what the heck is he doing?" coming from the crowd as much as it was, "A Satilite had that?"

Oh this was not good, not good at all.

Pulao roared and shook Shanna back into something approaching able to think. They dashed back into the lounge where hopefully there would be a screen with either the play-by-play or a touch screen showing the cards on the field. Blind and in the middle of the field of fire indeed.

Lilith snorted. It was an impressive combo, a perfect storm of some decent skill accompanied by not-inconsiderable luck, but she was not without her methods. Step one: Put them off balance.

"That's an impressive dragon you have there, but you look like you've blown almost your entire hand... Risky isn't that?" Lilith looked at her cards again. There were a lot of obstacles in front of her, but as long as she played this right...

She just needed to know what those two face down cards were. Step Two: Find out what they're hiding.

"Let's find out! I play the field spell Vampire Empire!" The counter was quick in coming and she fought down a smirk as the grinning man extended a card to her, blowing away the dark castles and gathering clouds. "Humph..."

One down... One to go... And then there's the dragon...

"Alright then... Let's see how you handle this! Magic card: Mystical Space Typhoon!" She braced herself, expecting the backlash from the dragon at any moment only... "Huh?"

Nothing came, and the winds bored into the remaining face down card, chains glowing with sickly green light manifesting for a split second before they were blown apart and dissipated into motes of light.

Unexpected... Those were fiendish chains. A valuable card to be sure... Lilith stared at the remaining card in Leon's hand intently, what is he hiding in there...

"Alright then... Since your face down cards are gone, I'll play this! The Book of Moon! You'll have to either let your Dragon get turned face down or counter it boy!"

She flinched as the cybernetic disruption shattered the holographic book, but Lilith didn't bother hiding her smile any longer. Step Three...

Punish them for their insolence.

Four cards left, more than enough to get the advantage and keep it. "Looks like you're out of counters! And you know? I still have a few more tricks, so let me tell you what they say about guys who blow their whole load so quickly~..."

A terrible wind began to blow through the arena, a swirling beam of light coalescing around the Cyber Dragon.

"It can be impressive in it's own way... But in the end, if they can't get it up again? They're worthless."

The light narrowed to a single point beneath Infinity and then roared upwards, piercing through the Cyber Dragon as Lilith began to laugh. "So much for your ace Satellite trash! I activate The Monarch's Stormforth!" The metal dragon keened as it it turned into so much light, coursing up into the sky and then arcing down to Lilith's side of the field, brilliant electric shine blackening and turning in on itself as a demonic monster stepped forth from the swirl of energy. "Arise! Vanity's Fiend! Show this worm the true meaning of power!"

As the dust cleared, Lilith smirked. She might not have finished him off in a single blow, but with his ace broken and his special summons sealed, she doubted he could come back from this. "I'll end my turn. Take some time to struggle if you want~" the smile turned cruel. "If I were you though, I would just stop wasting everyone's time and surrender now."

Pulao roared and shook Shanna back into something approaching able to think. They dashed back into the lounge where hopefully there would be a screen with either the play-by-play or a touch screen showing the cards on the field. Blind and in the middle of the field of fire indeed.

Inside, screens showed pay by plays of the duel while little logs showed each move played, complete with playback functionality. A few competitors were fiddling with the screens, rewatching various parts of each turn and muttering amongst themselves but there were more than enough free for Shanna to find a free one.

However, just as they were settling down at one of the touchpads, a voice came from behind them. "Oh, are you interested in the metal dragon too?"

A red eyed girl looked down at Shanna, her head quirked to one side. "It's fascinating right? Mind if I look over your shoulder?" There were plenty of other screens around she could be using herself, but if they were looking at the same thing?

"Er... Yeah," they muttered. "Well, more summoning method. I haven't seen too many--" Any "Black-bordered monsters before. It... Doesn't look like they need a specific type of card to call them like a Fusion spell or a Tuner?"

"Let's find out! I play the field spell Vampire Empire!" The counter was quick in coming and she fought down a smirk as the grinning man extended a card to her, blowing away the dark castles and gathering clouds. "Humph..."
Leon would widen his eyes and then chuckle, saying with a sing song voice "Nope, denied, I activate my trap card, Dark Bribe! " THe Card would flare up and basically throw money at the field to shatter it
"Alright then... Let's see how you handle this! Magic card: Mystical Space Typhoon!" She braced herself, expecting the backlash from the dragon at any moment only... "Huh?"
Leon smiled crossing his arms, letting it it happen, noting her surprise as he gave a non comitted shrug ,saying nonchalantly "Go ahead, you can have that."
"Alright then... Since your face down cards are gone, I'll play this! The Book of Moon! You'll have to either let your Dragon get turned face down or counter it boy!"
Leon would narrow his eyes, feeling like he had just walked into a trap, but Defense had never been Infinity's strong suit as he said "FIne, I counter With Infinity's effect, detaching Cyber Dragon Drei to negate it." THe mighty Cyber Dragon Infinity would shrink slightly in size as she fired a beam to destroy the book of moon as he braced himself for what came next

Leon would still stand there, looking annoyed, but not too worried as he drew a card and replied, hatching a plan as he said calmly, though there was worry in his eyes ,and anger...He was upset he fell for the bait, his mother would have seen it coming as he glanced to the side, the spirit of Cyber Dragon Infinity appearing for a moment and giving him a forgiving nod before disapearing when he made his move.

"Good advice to hear...I set two cards face down, we'll see if I can get it back up again won't we?" Leon would say, laughing as he set B Buster Drake down face down in defense mode and a Torrential Tribute for when she summoned something else.

Looking around, feeling a gaze upon her back even as she watched the duel occur. A boy from Satellite summoning a powerful XYZ monster, a Cyber Dragon at the cost of his entire hand. Then as his opponent countered and outplayed him, using one of her own favoured cards to do so, The Monarchs Stormforth. Emilia could only suppress a gleeful smile at the back and forth duel before her, she wished every duel was like it.

Focusing once more on the gaze focused upon her she twisted around, Uru thankfully silent and calm, to observe a girl with silver hair standing nearby. Walking over to the girl who had caught her attention by her catching the girls; Emilia waved with her unwounded hand a mask of a gentle smile upon her face.
"Hello, I wonder what drew you towards me? I would've expected you to be more focused upon this fantastic duel occurring before us." Leaning next to her, Emelia let her smile fade back to neutrality, "Anything you want to ask me? I just wonder who you are, and if you too are a competitor in this tournament."

"Er... Yeah," they muttered. "Well, more summoning method. I haven't seen too many--" Any "Black-bordered monsters before. It... Doesn't look like they need a specific type of card to call them like a Fusion spell or a Tuner?"

"Oh yes... The mystery of the Exceeds. Or Xyz... No one knows where they came from, but they started to pop up a few years ago, people couldn't even play them for the longest time but they keep managing to find their way to places where someone can figure them out."

She giggles "It's quite the mystery, but for all that no one seems willing to take responsibility for making them they seem to fit into the duelling networks just fine... In truth though... I'm more curious about the dragon itself... A mechanical creation, but built to rival the Dragons of old..." For a split second, her eyes seem to be illuminated from within, but then the moment passes. "Man seeking to match the gods... Is it hubris I wonder? Or is there something else to it?"

Lilith's eyes narrowed at the face down cards. Nothing more in hand. He'd just laid it all on the field. Such confidence... Is it a bluff? Or does he really have something that can match me? She hummed, not daring to hesitate for too long.

"I'll switch Vanity's Fiend to defence mode." It wouldn't do to run her trump card face first into a mirror force after all, but she also had to keep up the attack. "Then I'll play Foolish Burial to send my Vampire Vamp from my deck to my graveyard and summon Mezuki! In attack mode!"

She threw out her arm as the massive horse-man hefted it's axe. "Go! Smash his face-down monster!

The woman looks almost startled to be addressed so directly, "It is..." She looks distinctly uncertain, as though unused to the interaction, before finally setting the words she wants.

"It is curious, to see so much..." She pauses again, as though searching for a word. "So much... Light?"

She points to Lilith first "Even her black heart glows faintly, while his burns bright... ". She turns her finger to Leon, then back, she looks at Emilia again, pointing at her, right at the tattoo. "You're glowing too..." Emilia can feel the spirit within her recoil at that pronouncement, though it cannot quite explain why. They are threatened, or perhaps angered by her in some way...

But the woman seems utterly unaware of having done anything, and turns back to the duel at hand. "They burn brightest when they duel though... Like the sun..."

He said, taking a card from his duel disk with a practiced swipe and looking at it with a smile*I activate Cyber Repair Plant , since Cyber Dragon Drei's name is Cyber Dragon in the graveyard, I can add a Light Machine type Monster from my deck to my hand."

His duel disk spat a card out and he slammed it onto the field, saying" I summon C Crush Wyvern and activate my trap card, Torrential Tribute! " he shouted, a great flood washing over the field washing all monsters away.

Leon smirked despite having used his normal summon, saying as things had gone surprisingly well for him, as he had expected to have to stall for much longer as he said going on with his moveNow I activate B buster Drake's effect to add A Assault Core to my hand, and C crush Wyvern's to special summon the Assault Core from my hand to the field, now....Payback for Infinity, I banish the A Assault Core from the field, the B Buster Drake and C Crush Wyvern from the Graveyard to Fusion summon a machine who's combined might overshadows them seperately, come forth, ABC Dragon Buster and attack her directly!! "Leon would shout as the huge combined mecha came forth after it's components combined and would blast Lilith herself head on, Leon saying as he ended his turn all the unaware of the two girls talking about him and Lillith in passing among other things "And with that, I end my turn for now."

Shanna shrugged, as they let the tape roll forward. Watching the monster be systematically removed. "Maybe both?" they offered. "It's pretty presumptuous to think that we can do what gods have done, but at the same time... Since it has been done, we know that it can be done." Shanna could remember a few very powerful cards being classified as Gods. And well, there were stories about how those cards had been in an Ante tournament and all ended up in Yugi Moto's hands. Which meant that even gods could be beaten. "Just because they are gods, does not by necessity mean that we cannot match what they have done. Or even possibly overcome it. It's just never going to be easy or something that only one person can do."

Pulao seemed to roar his approval at that particular statement. Shanna wondered why.

Jin takes in the duel. That Dragon was interesting, but would ultimately be defeated by his deck in all likelihood should he have to face it. Assuming he could have his grave stocked beforehand. Meanwhile the other deck while it seemed to have plenty of interesting spells was nothing to write home about, using a good backrow to prop up a lacking main deck, and no extra deck usage thus far. Which admittedly would be a problem for his deck, but he was nothing if not resourceful, he would find a way to destroy them.

Smiling, slightly shocked by the pronouncement, Emilia merely smiled and nodded in response to the silver haired girl before her. Thinking deeply about what the girl had revealed. Was it the light of people's hearts? Or perhaps their will to duel? Maybe even something stranger, it was an interesting revelation. Whilst Emilia was by no means gullible or even particularly invested in the supernatural, the spirit of an Earthbound Immortal ordering and punishing her were rather obvious signs of a deeper aspect to Duel Monsters beyond a simple card game. Not to mention the manner in which the woman reacted, far too honestly for her to be obviously fraudulent. Perhaps she was performing a long con like some from Satellite, but for now Emilia was content to trust in the validity of the girls words.

" How do you mean I am glowing? Since the glows of them dueling currently differ, is my glow different again?" Smiling still showing no signs of the discomfort she was feeling, the way the Earthbound left her flesh writhing in pain as it attempted to demonstrate their opinions on what was revealed. The tattoos the girl had pointed to seemed to move, the skin beneath twisting almost unnoticeably in response to the gods anger. Even though Uru did not try to manifest, Emilia could feel some small manner of its distaste for the girl, exceptional in that it was even further beyond the so called Black Spider of Supremacy's hate for humanity in general. The festering hate that had accumulated over a millenia entombed beneath the Nazca Lines.

Emilia smiled once more, truly this girl was something special to attract attention from the creature she had given herself to, albeit mostly by accident, she would have to learn more and grow closer to her. Try and gather someone who could aid in ensuring her name went down in history; to leave a record. Be it for infamy of heroism, all Emilia Opfern desired was to prove unequivocally that she had existed!
"My name is Emilia, a competitor in this tournament, who may I be having the pleasure to currently be conversing with?" All great journeys featured a single step that began it all, would she perhaps find hers here or elsewhere in this battle for recognition...

[3000/2800]

Lilith blinked the spots out of her eyes from the bright light of the buster's attack, a rictus expression of mingled glee and fury contorting her features. "A mechanical abomination! A bunch of junk cobbled into a monster! Hah!" She raised her duel disk to her face again. "It suits a rat like you..."

"My turn! Draw!" Her gaze flicked to the card, then back, a grin stretching across her faceefore she slotted it into her hand. "Your scrapwork creation isn't worth a damn against a real monster though... I'll start by activating Mezuki in my graveyard! The dumb brute may not be good for much besides muscle, but even muscle is a fitting tribute to my own ace! Vampire Vamp! Your mistress calls! From the grave, the undead woman rose, tall and beautiful, pristine and unmarried by the grave she emerged from as she and Lilith were wrapped in a dusky aura of killing intent.

"Now... I'll summon some backup for my lady of the night, Vampire Sorceress! Now my darling vamp?" The deadly woman looked back to Lilith as her power began to roil around her. "Go make that mechanical mess your pet would you?"

Almost immediately Leon reacted, prompting the Dragon buster to split into it's separate parts to evade the seductive approach and while the power worked well on the stronger monster, it had no effect on the weaker parts that made up its body. "Oh how disappointing... You blow your load early twice and now you can't even keep it up? Hmph! Now you've left my poor vamp all frustrated~!" The holographic monster was looking surprisingly emotive, bristling at the little machines that's now faced her.

"I guess the poor girl will just have to settle for the other option... Go Vampire Vamp and Vampire Sorceress! Shred his A-Assault core and B-Buster Drake! The vamp lashed out with a wicked laugh that mirrored her owner as her claws turned the brilliant machine into so much scrap while the Sorceress hurled black lightning at her target, leaving it a smoking wreck even as it's Return fire wounded the Sorceress, leaving her to dissipate into so much smoke. "You couldn't have even brought her something with blood could you... Discourteous to the very end."

Lilith smirked. "Well then, I'll just finish up my turn by activating Book of Life! It not only lets me bring my lovely vampire Sorceress back from the graveyard, but also let's me banish your A-Assault core from your graveyard! Leave that metal monster where it deserves to lie."

Flanked left and right by her vampires, Lilith extended a hand to Leon across the field. "Feel like giving up yet boy? It's your turn~"

Shanna shrugged, as they let the tape roll forward. Watching the monster be systematically removed. "Maybe both?" they offered. "It's pretty presumptuous to think that we can do what gods have done, but at the same time... Since it has been done, we know that it can be done." Pulao seemed to roar his approval at that particular statement. Shanna wondered why.

"Yet it has been done before has it not? Yugi Moto's legend is rather impressive after all... Then again, it is said that he had some help that went beyond his so-often-talked of friends and rivals..." The story of Yugi Moto was one of history's great enigmas. A pivotal figure at the turn of the century, and yet one whose motivations and ideals were still basically unknown. It was generally agreed that he was by and large a good person motivated by relatively wholesome goals, yet there were so many mysteries around his life and history's veil had hidden much from the modern scholar.

Ryoaki gave a sad smile. "Ah, but I apologize, you asked how Xyz works did you not? It is... Somewhat unclear." She waggled her fingers. "They are like fusions that do not require a fusion card, or synchro without a tuner. Their requirements are often rather oddly specific, and so they can be difficult to summon, especially when none of the cards say how to do so, but once you know the right offerings you simply have to lay the cards on offer atop each other and call to have them come." The red eyed girl chuckled. "A more modern mystery I suppose."

Smiling, slightly shocked by the pronouncement, Emilia merely smiled and nodded in response to the silver haired girl before her. Thinking deeply about what the girl had revealed. "My name is Serena, but you can call me..." She thinks for a moment before nodding. "Ao... You can call me Ao." From up close, Emilia can see that as her sentence trails off the silver haired woman -Ao- tenses visibly as Lilith draws, her eyes flicking over to the stage once more as she summons her ace. "I am... Also a competitor here, and as for glow..."

She squints, first at Emilia, then back to the duelling field, then back to Emilia again. "It is hard to describe... Like... How do you say it? An aura... Or perhaps a shadow..."

"On the battlefield however, it awakens... Even in these reflections of true battle with these shades of true power, the closeness makes the glow become a shine..."

She smiles, and then turns back to the railing, turning her gaze back to the battlefield once more, a faraway look in her eyes. "It is the most beautiful thing in this world..."

Leon grinned and said pointing forward" Attack her Vampire Sorceress! And utterly annihilate Vampire Vamp as I discard this Cyber Dragon COre from my hand to the grave!

Shanna leaned away trying to keep horror and fear off of their face. "I... Never said anything about Yugi Moto..." they muttered. Pulao roared again. Shanna flinched a bit but continued. "But thank you for explaining the... 'XYZs' I think you called them. I suppose I will have to be on look out for them." They tried to think of something else to say to change the topic of conversation only to turn back to the duel as the screen had continued to show the newest turns. "He's... Rather pushy, it seems," they noted. Shanna tried to think of a reason. The first one that came to mind was that the boy was trying to impress his opponent with his dueling skills. If he was, it was failing miserably. "Do you think he likes her or something?"

"Its an honour to meet you Ao." Emilia smiled once again as she greeted the seemingly shy girl before her, "I hope that when it's our time to battle on that stage before us, our aura's will shine brighter than any before them! You say they are the most beautiful sights, I hope to engrave a new memory unto your mind of the match we shall experience together!" With a challenging smirk Emilia leant back, her thoughts wandering as she considered how the girl before her, Ao, saw auras brighten during duels. Was it competitive spirit? Perhaps the spiking adrenaline produced by the realistic battles that occurred? Maybe even some conceptual form of Dueling Energy being released, all in all an interesting conundrum and concept to consider. Emilia considered any advantages the skill would grant Ao in a duel, perhaps it would help the dreamy looking girl predict and prepare for her opponents aces or identify bluffs based on if they were truly confident in their hands and fields, or maybe it was simply useless outside sorting the wheat from the chaff. Seeing who was a true duelist and who was a mere dabbler.

Leon would narrow his eyes and say, calling out "Split apart ABC Dragon Buster, Avoid her foul seduction, stick to the cause!" he said as the mechanical beasts flew apart and deployed again in defense mode all except for B Buster in attack mode

With a final smile to Ao, Emilia turned to face the duel before her. It seemed to have reached its climax, both duelists summoning their aces for a final confrontation. Vampire Vamp; a niche card capable of removing troublesome threats in a non- destructive manner, plus obtaining a boost in power and survivability. It was controlled by an arrogant woman from Neo Domino, with her lack of backrow and inability to equip anything to Vamp, Emilia expected her to lose.

Her opponent meanwhile had potential, knowing how to use his ABC Buster Dragon; an exceedingly powerful ace able to banish monsters and escape targeting effects by splitting alongside easy summoning conditions. An exceptional card for one seemingly from Satellite, not to mention the Cyber Dragon Infinity he had summoned earlier; another powerful ace. Perhaps like her he had stolen cards? Still he lacked tempering, despite an powerful defence for his Infinity his protection of ABC was feeble. A single Raigeki or lightning vortex, even torrential tribute would have lost him the duel. Perhaps he had simply ran out of steam after his powerful opening? All in all Emilia was predicting his victory, especially since he had restored the Buster Dragon. Unless the opponent possessed a hand trap or another form of protection, perhaps another ace; she had heard of a powerful zombie XYZ that could turn the tides, she would lose.

Losing some interest in the duel, Emilia simply contented herself with relaxing alongside Ao, turning to face her a simple question slipped free, "Who do you believe will win this? Personally my bets are on the boy. But I wonder about your opinion Ao." Smiling she contented herself with Uru's lack of a further response to her presence near the girl, perhaps it was simply a warning and the spider had grown bored of prompting her to no response.

Leon would chuckle, glad that he had guessed right which Union monster she would banish with book of life as he looked at the A Assault Core in his hand and said as he drew a card " You know what the lovely thing about machines are? They are mass produced, I summon A assault core in attack mode, and banish the three from my field and graveyard to summon another ABC Dragon Buster!"

Leon grinned and said pointing forward" Attack her Vampire Sorceress! And utterly annihilate Vampire Vamp as I discard this Cyber Dragon COre from my hand to the grave!
he would shout, the large mechanical monster blasting Vampire Sorceress with it's full might and then blasting Vampire Vamp with everything, reducing it to nothingness as he said" And with that, I end my turn, what was that about me not being able to keep it up?!?"

"Augh!" Lilith flinched as the Vampire Vamp was destroyed, stumbling a little before she regained her footing. "Worthless dog... I'll have your heart for that!" For a moment Leon would swear he could see her eyes gleam with menace from all the way across the arena before she threw her head back, raising a single card to the heavens. "I'll burn your machines to ashes! Dark God's Bolt of Destruction! RAIGEKI!" The card slammed down onto the duel disk and in an instant a forking spear of blinding crimson-tinged light shot down, vaporizing the trio of machines even as they tried to split apart and evade the devastating strike.

Lilith's face twisted in a cruel smile. "Now! Since you so rudely interrupted the first coming, it's time for the return! Vampire Empire! Rise!" Immediately the clouds began to gather as the bedraggled remnants of the component cannon parts desperately tried to rally, but Lilith wasn't done yet. "It's time for another chapter! Book of Life will just send your second A-Assault core into oblivion just like the first! Let's see you pull a third one of those mechanical abortions out of your pathetic deck! Now! Vampire Vamp! Return to the field and attack his C-Crush Wyvern! Crimson Drain!" For a moment, Leon would swear he could feel something tug at him as the clouds gathered overhead and the Vampire lunged, a tingling pain and a moment of dizziness as dragged a swirling mass of energy out of the destroyed monster before returning to her mistress' side as Leon would hear the spirit at his side roaring in frustration.

Lilith felt a rush of something almost pleasurable as she turned the dragon into smoking scrap. A heady glee at taking the advantage as she watched him reeling from the destruction. His ugly dragon, his Frankenstein monster of a cannon, she'd beaten them all, and she still had cards in hand while he was -to her mind- struggling just to keep up at this point. "It's your move Worm!"

"Didn't you?" She sounded... Different for a moment there, not just from the tone of surprise either, some quality of her voice changed for an instant...

Then she spoke again, and the moment passed. "I suppose we simply both had the same idea on our minds then..." She turned back to the screen as well, seemingly unperturbed by her words. "She is certainly pretty... But beneath that skin is a coldness, and he should be well aware of it by now, facing her like this." Ryoaki shrugs. "I would hope he could be more discerning, but Hope counts only for so much..." She flinched as she watched the counterplay unleashed by the arrogant woman. "She is cruel, and ruthless..."

Ao didn't answer, staring wide-eyed up at the sky, then down to the field. "She's waking up..." The words were barely a whisper, almost inaudible, before the silver-haired woman licked her lips and tried again. "I had thought he might pull through, but this..."

Ao swallowed thickly, her already pale skin seeming to go even paler. "Unless he can call out to her once more... He stands no chance." Emilia had a distinct impression that Ao wasn't referring to Lilith when she said that...

'Not out loud,' Shanna silently commented, but they didn't want to get back into that kind of a discussion, so they focused on the second part. "I can't disagree," Shanna said with a shrug. "Though if she hadn't been so ruthless... I'm not sure how she could have come back in the game. He's already tried to call up two massively heavy monsters on his first few turns. I believe I once heard an old phrase, 'Mercy is the purview of the strong.' Because it says that no matter what the opponent has or does, they are in such a good position that the opponent will never be able to recover and overcome. You might even say that ruthlessness is a sign of respect to the opponent. Acknowledging them as dangerous. So even ruthlessness and cruelty can have their place. They simply need to be balanced somewhere else."

They turned to look up at the woman, "How would you have dealt with him, being in her position?"
