Xander [Quest], Thread Ten: You Blame Navi For This

So, Power, Wisdom, Courage as the three choices?

I wonder how we could combine all three.

Personally, I want to ride the Boar.

OOC: BIRTHDAY OMAKE ANNOUNCEMENT!
As various posters have noted, Xander Quest is now officially a year old. In honor of the occasion, I am prepared to write one or more omake starring the characters of the voters' choice. The following restrictions apply:

-- You may vote for any individual that has appeared in Xander Quest, been referenced in Xander Quest, or exists in canon for one of the universes that make up Xander Quest.
-- Up to three votes allowed per poster.
-- All votes must be marked [x], as usual. Votes that are not marked will not be counted.
-- The three characters with the most votes will get their own omake. In the event of a tie vote, the tied options will displace characters with fewer votes.

In light of SB's lag issues, voting will remain open until I say otherwise, so that everybody has a chance to participate.

[X] Meet violence with Power, 'Wisdom', and Courage
- [X] Sidestep the Boar and then vault onto its back.
-- [X] Hang on for dear life, even if it tries to brush you off into the river of your spiritual energy.

Omake votes
-[X] Kahlua
-[X] Din, Nayru, and Farore
-[X] Ambrose

Okay I like this one because apart from the boar trying to roll over it doesn't have anything to attack us with except going into the river AND animal responses in such a situation is almost never to roll over but to thrash or kick. I'd like us to try and add a ki enhancement but I suspect that would fail considering we are inside our own mind/body.

[X] Meet violence with violence. Ramming speed!
-[X] Maximum Power!
--[x] WISDOM OF THE RAGING BOAR

I mean we have a skill, and if people can Suplex trains, I'm sure we can do it to a boar.

Okay, I don't think it's actually a good option - I'd rather Power Fist if we're going to do this the violent way, but still...

[X] Meet violence with determination. Stop where you are, and...
- [X] ...brace yourself to take the charge! You will not be moved!

A picture is worth a thousand words, but more seriously, I'd be very wary of any attempt to directly use spiritual power (even as a sub-sub-component of Maximum Power), while we're in the mind state.

Might I suggest people go for an option that doesn't involve trying to outforce a giant boar and instead go for an option which involves using the noggin a bit more.

We have options which revolve around a mix of using power, courage and intelligence why are people voting for the one which basically amounts to run head first into a freight train?

Also consider that trying to use Maximum Power is very likely to fail or do something very strange, as we're currently inside one of the types of our power that is used to fuel it, and the others are distant to it.

Remember the description of it symbolically being taking our mana and ki and crushing them together? Imagine what might happen if we try to do that when we're inside our ki.

Totem of the Raging Boar: D++. Your actions have demonstrated an affinity for the Spirit of the Boar, who is fierce, fearless, and strong, yet also hard-headed, wild, and hungry.
If it was an actual boar, that might be a good idea. However, this is our spiritual totem. Why would "using our noggin" be any help with our totem animal, given that description? We either need to out-stubborn it, or find a way to calm it down.

I'm not really sure how to address your question, I just don't understand your frame of reference. Of course fighting intelligently is going to help. Just because those are the things the boar imparts on us as a benefit doesn't mean we have to be stupid about it. We are trying to prove our dominance over the boar and using our brain meats to achieve that dominance I would have thought would be obvious.

Just as Alex is more than the sum of his past lives, so is Alex more than the sum of the influences that the boar has on him. by 'defeating' the spirit boar with intelligence, determination and courage. (The vote I am for is akin to riding the boar into the ground) we show that are more than the boars influence on our soul (if we are lucky maybe this will reduce the negative effects from the spirit totem?)

Animes often have a defeat the spirit guide/Zanpakto/X to gain its powers and remove its negative influences theme arc or episode maybe this is our one :p

I don't think we'll get a bird's eye view into the Goddesses minds, so better to go for some other targets. I want to see more of that Blessed Be Badass anyway.

Because doing this to an animal is a very symbolically powerful way of asserting our self in a way that doesn't involve violence or attempting to harm it. Staying on its back despite its best efforts is a great way of showing we out-stubborn it, and part of the imagery of the bucking bronco is that the cowboy should eventually calm the animal and stop it trying to throw him off.

The using our brain bit is the decision to shift the arena of contention on to one we choose, that is more amenable to the kind of message we want to send.

The Boar is trying to assert that we are two entities that are fighting each other, the metaphor it has chosen to interact with us via is violent. We should counter-assert that instead we want to work with the Boar, to come to a partnership, but one where it respects us and our mastery of our own spirit. So, we move the situation to a metaphor, that of us riding an unruly animal (and, importantly for a spirit guide, letting it take us where it leads us), that is not violent.

This is a mindscape. I think the symbolism is important here. I've probably explained it very badly, but I hope my meaning comes across.

Also, the image of us riding the Boar rodeo style is amusing. A "Yee-Haw" is probably appropriate.

WTF with people wanting Ganondorf? He is "asleep" and let's keep it like that.
