- [x] What a poor, ignorant fool. At the same time it's both insulting and painful to watch, so you will be magnanimous and enlighten the poor chap why you're going with your teacher.

Hm... on the other hand I wonder what "let him languish in ignorance" would give?

Probably nothing I guess.

Whatever, I just want the Japanese Arc to fucking end.

A - to Filial Piety? We are after all intentionally ignoring an adult with some measure of authority over us. On the flip side though this might be cancelled out like with that shop owner since we are kind of following Lu-sensei's lead.

oh god, not this shit again.

more importantly, we don't need to explain shit to him. we are an eight year old boy, who was just involved in a terrorist attack, then an attempted murder, and now this asshole is suggesting that our teacher leaves us alone in a strange building in a strange country so he can talk to this guy's boss? even Sensei is unamused by his bullshit.

give him a "you'd better be fucking joking" look, then follow Lu-sensei out of the room.
Of course you should. It's called basic human politeness and not being a dick to the poeple of your embassy who are going to bat for you

- [X] But explain to the flunkie why you're going with Lu-sensei.

What can we say to the flunkie about why we want to go with Lu-sensei that won't attract even more unwanted attention from the authorities?

If we say we've been attacked multiple times before they're going to want to interview us about that, and then they'll follow up with the Japanese police, who will then have to investigate whether this was actually a series of attacks targeted on us rather than a one-off incident, which will mean they'll want to talk to us again, which will drag this out even longer and cut into our time even more.

You know the saying "never talk to the police"? It exists for a good reason.

Alratan's right; we have stuff we need to do, and that does not influence spending even more time with authorities who are, when it comes down to it, not really going to be able to help us.

Well, it just has to be a hundred years old. There is all kinds of shit floating around from the 1800's. Mostly antique furniture, but there are antique weapons out there. I own a knife that is about 200 years old myself. The issue is less finding one and more finding one that is affordable for a middle class kid.

The aide's statement makes it pretty clear that he has little if any idea just what you and your companions have been through over the last few days, let alone how many times you personally have gotten into danger when away from Lu-sensei's presence. You try not to hold the man's ignorance against him, but after being jumped by giantkin in a bathroom, a creature of darkness in one hall, ninja bullies in another passage, and child demon assassins in an infirmary, his blandly puzzled attempt to get your teacher to leave you behind almost comes across as wishing you harm.

Letting out a breath to cool your temper and still some of your burgeoning fear, you decide to let your actions speak for you rather than using words. Snapping your book shut with a "whump" that resounds distinctly in the hushed room, you leave your chair, help Cordelia to her feet, and move to join Lu-sensei, pinning the aide with an unamused look of your own.

The aide frowns, and then turns back to your teacher. "Very well, then, sir. This way."

Without a word and barely any more sound, your two guards fall in a few steps behind you.

You're led not to Mr. West's office, but a conference room, where the self-described lawyer has been joined by perhaps a dozen other people. Nearly three-quarters of them have the same general air as your escort, support staff just here to carry out the orders issued by their bosses, but in addition to West, there are two people who give the impression of being In Charge. Both wear suits, although one has removed his jacket and folded it over the back of a chair; that man wears his white shirt with his sleeves rolled back to above the elbow, revealing strongly-muscled forearms, and carries a gun in a shoulder holster. The other figure of authority has several years of age over his counterparts, reflected in greying hair and the lines on his face.

All three men look up when West's aide announces your arrival.

"Ah," Mr. West says with a smile. "Good, you're all here." He holds a brief round of introductions. The man with the gun is the chief of embassy security, Paul Ford; the older fellow is the head of their small in-house medical staff, Doctor Henry Burke.

Taking seats at the conference table, you and Cordelia listen as the adults discuss what the government currently knows of your situation, what they are still in the process of learning, and what they need to know. Dr. Burke has two of his assistants visiting the hospital where the paramedics that treated you yesterday work, trying to track down hard copies of their report on your treatment. His secretary, meanwhile, is trying to get digital copies of your medical histories from Sunnydale General for comparison purposes; Burke grumbles something about unhelpful, borderline obstructive colleagues, then adds in a clearer voice that he'll need to examine all three of you himself, to officially confirm whatever information his people get from the locals. After that, Mr. Ford says that some of his people are in contact with the Tokyo PD, who are being quite helpful, although since they're still in the middle of analyzing the scene of yesterday's attack and the much larger incident at the arena, it'll be a while before they have any concrete information to hand over. He also states that secure rooms are being prepared for your party at the embassy, and that while he personally would prefer to send a few of his people to pick up your things from your hotel, if you wish to collect your belongings in person, he can arrange it.

Mr. West puts the question of which bit of business to handle first to Lu-sensei, who glances at you and Cordelia. Cordy states bluntly that she'd like to get her stuff. As for you...

[ ] You're with Cordelia. You've gone to some trouble to get those reagents, and it would be best to handle their relocation in person, to avoid complications.
[ ] The men in black can handle your stuff without breaking it. In the meantime, you can get this check-up out of the way.

However it's done, once your belongings are secured, you're not going to have a lot of freedom to move around. How do you wish to spend your time at the embassy?

[ ] Keep your head down. You know, read your book and scroll, work on non-mystical training with Lu-sensei, watch TV, and generally enjoy the hospitality of the embassy without making a pest of yourself. And definitely talk with your Dad when he gets here.
- [ ] Possible government spies or no, you're not going to ignore Briar for however long you're stuck here. Just be sure to take precautions to avoid unwelcome eyes and ears.
-- [ ] Once your father is here and reassured that you're okay, perhaps this would be the time to tell him the Truth?
-- [ ] Or not.
[ ] Explore. You're a Somewhat Important Person and a guest in a government building. Poke around, see what your parents' tax dollars are paying for.
- [ ] Stick to the mundane investigation.
- [ ] Use your mystical talents, but passively.
- [ ] Make full use of your skills.
[ ] You have magic, including divination, illusion, and teleportation. You can probably find, deceive, and slip past the embassy's security to run any remaining errands, as long as you wait until night.
- [ ] Visit that magic shop that's open after dark. Maybe you can trade a spell for credit, like at Gen's?
- [ ] Visit one or more of the shrines on your map for further reagents.
-- [ ] If you find something useful, take it.
-- [ ] If you find something useful, make arrangements with the shrinekeeper(s).

OOC: Keen observers may have noticed that Alex's ranks in Cryptozoology, Demonology, and Parazoology have changed (from F+ to E for the first two, and getting an F++ that doesn't yet bestow a bonus for the last). I feel I should clarify that these ranks aren't just from reading Tobin's Spirit Guide, but also include ranks Alex should have already picked up from Briar, Cordelia, and hanging out with the supernatural crowd at the tournament.

The reagents are will our stuff right? I don't think Alex will trust the Government Men to handle those correctly.

[X] You're with Cordelia. You've gone to some trouble to get those reagents, and it would be best to handle their relocation in person, to avoid complications.
[X] You've got illusions and magic in general; use it to allow us to freely do some ki-training with Lu-sensei. Let's review everything we've learned thus far, both you and Cordy, with the help of a true master in the art.

There, that should work - and it should be less risky than outright leaving.
Then when dawn comes, if everyone wants to go for it, we could do the familiar ritual like kestrel404 talked about.

We don't have the reagents to perfrom the ritual. We don't have acceptable quality Time, Light, Life, Water or Earth reagents. We're less than half way through reagent collection. It's massively, massively premature to do something that is permanent.

If we half ass it as described, we're not getting another chance, it's an opportunity squandered forever.

In any case:

We have Water - it's of sufficient quality to act as a reagent.
The bottle is hand-crafted clay that's been used as a mystic vessel. That makes it reagent quality in and of itself, and Clay is one of the most recognizable symbols of earth in human culture (big stones being the only thing that's more 'earthy').

We can take half of our Reagents from the environment without an issue, and we've got more than half. So I disagree.

Though if you guys want to bolster the ritual, our Gerudo pendant would work nicely for a Time reagent (It was a birthday present, we've had it on us for over a year, and it's symbolic of a past life).

I'd much prefer we do our familiar ritual during the eclipse. for a rather large boost in power. We could probably use a fey glade in the uk as well to pull it off for a further boost. No way are we doing it now.

[x] You're with Cordelia. You've gone to some trouble to get those reagents, and it would be best to handle their relocation in person, to avoid complications.
- [x] When we believe we can avoid unwelcome ears ask Lu-sensei if it would be possible to review what you and Cordelia have learned and figured out yourselves about ki and spiritual manipulation over the past few days, verbally for the flashier techniques, and including demonstrations for those without visual displays, such as sensory and physical/mental enhancement techniques. Tell him what we can do to hide our activities.
-- [x] The review may happen while we collect our things or in the embassy, wherever Lu-sensei thinks is best.
[x] Keep your head down and train while you can. You know, read your books and scrolls and work on non-mystical training with Lu-sensei after reading all you have with you. And definitely talk with your Dad when he gets here.
- [x] Possible government spies or no, you're not going to ignore Briar for however long you're stuck here. Just be sure to take precautions to avoid unwelcome eyes and ears.
-- [x] Once your father is here and reassured that you're okay. Ask Lu-sensei where we can tell the Truth to father so we aren't overheard and any overreaction from our father won't be noticed. We'll probably need to use magic or ki to convince him, in that case do your best to hide it from any sense, mystical and mundane.

While I agree that we should review our techniques, it should only be done if we're certain that we won't be found out.

Likewise while important to tell our father the Truth, it should only be done if we can hide his reactions and once again where we won't be found out. We'll probably need to do magic to convince him. Probably we'll need to wait until after we leave Japan.

I don't believe we should do the ritual now. For one I'd like to do it during the eclipse, second I believe it's too risky. Besides with teleport we can get out of Sunnydale whenever we want to search for reagents or ritual locations.
