What would happen if shows, movies, musicals and videogames had entirely different soundtracks?

I just got into them recently, but that's off topic.

So... what would that movie be?

Besides the Gorillaz movie that is supposed to be in the works that could be animated by Disney (not really but the movie is supposed to be in the works just not made by Disney) perhaps something akin to Alice in Wonderland. A coming of age story set in a fantasy world of nonsense with Groillaz music playing in the background to better fit a drug trip. A lot of highs and lows intersperse throughout or some sort of cop movie in a futuristic city in the style of this short film:

Or maybe more this one:

Lord of the Rings with jazz would be sexy. I don't think we've ever had a fantasy series with Jazz music.

Contemporary jazz would work for the mellower town settings like a bar or a jaunt through the woods. Than hit it into high tempo with a faster pace beat or go into all out swing music for the action scenes.

Hip-Hop was, at the time, very much associated with minority communities in the West, and also very much not a common genre in anime OST's

Emphasis on in the West. Japanese media is made for Japanese viewers by Japanese creators. Any social commentary it does is going to be rooted primarily in a Japanese cultural context.

I'd like to see Dark Souls with a rap soundtrack..

To be honest, it'd make sense with the game's PVP and the gestures you can do.

I know.

Still, it'd be interesting if Hideaki Anno at least tried to use Hip-Hop instead of a more traditional soundtrack.

I was Thinking of Fallout 4 With all its Soundtrack Replaced with Songs From Love Live! and Love Live! Sunshine!!

Or of PMMM with its Soundtrack Replaced with Bluegrass Music.

A post-apocalyptic Japan that only had idol music that survived to the present day.

PMMM with an old 50's feel might be fun. Though I would also want to think about a pop idol group doing old 50's music in a modern idol scene way. That be unique and make for some catchy sounds.

Fallout 4 Doesn't take place in Japan and even then Idol Music doesn't exist there since they are Culturally Stuck in the 50's.

And Bluegrass Music is Southern Music, The one you're thinking is Jazz.

So...

What would happen if Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime had a power metal soundtrack?

"Harry Shirou, you must rock the fuck out."

And so, the second you get the invasion notification...

So Saber's theme would be a Dragonforce song?:V

Personally, I would like to see Kara no Kyoukai with a NieR: Automata-like Ost...and maybe Persona 3 with Disgaea

What would happen if shows like Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid had a heavy metal soundtrack?

Sorry, breaking my own first rule here, but seriously, how would the plot and tone be changed to fit the soundtrack?

It fit more in line with when they went into the dragon battles. Though it can still be heartfelt depending on what type of Metal music you use like Black Metal with it's more sober sound to it.

To added to that thought though:

Beyblade had an kickass soundtrack making the bullshit you saw on screen feel fucking great.

My question than becomes, what kinda of bullshit could you show someone but make feel epic by adding awesome music to it?

So...

I wonder what would happen if Koe no Katachi had this song play at one point:

Shouya, it's time to cook.

I'm not entirely sure if this is on topic, but I can say that from firsthand experience that replacing the soundtrack of resident evil 4 with the greatest hits of earth, wind & fire is goddamn hilarious.

It's on topic, don't worry.

Now then, a punk rock version of Puella Mahou Madoka Magica would kick a lot of ass, if only because it would be really out of place with a typical magical girl show and also make the series go from self considered melodrama to crazy awesome angry social outcry to justify using the music.

Hell, do that for a lot of self serious melodramatic shows: Anohana, Your Lie in April, Fate/Stay Night etc. Changing their songs to punk rock anthems would be... interesting to say the least.
