Alright, but what about something like a- a- I dunno, Lord of The Rings, with it's soundtrack composed by Gorrilaz?
Lord of the Rings with jazz would be sexy. I don't think we've ever had a fantasy series with Jazz music.
Hip-Hop was, at the time, very much associated with minority communities in the West, and also very much not a common genre in anime OST's
Emphasis on in the West. Japanese media is made for Japanese viewers by Japanese creators. Any social commentary it does is going to be rooted primarily in a Japanese cultural context.
