What would happen if shows, movies, musicals and videogames had entirely different soundtracks?

The titles says it all, but I have one more thing to add here; how would the media in question adapt to the different soundtrack, by which I mean, what would the new tone be like?

For example, what would happen if, say, Neon Genesis Evangelion's soundtrack was hip hop instead of classical music and the sort of music you'd find in a tokusatsu show?

Or what would happen if Kill la Kill's soundtrack was mostly based off of jazz?

And, just to be a little more out there, what would happen if Frozen had a heavy metal soundtrack instead of... well the Frozen OST?

You are now imagining a rendition of Komm, Sutter Todd but in a rap format. Honestly though, I can unironically see that not chanhing much—one of the bigget things the soundtrack of NGE can have going for it is how the music will contradict the scene, or the song itself be comtradictory (again, see Komm, Susser Todd, the worlds happiest suicide note in musical format). Hip Hop, or just pop in general, was becoming a bit more popular in Anime around the time of NGE. So, yeah, it could work.

It'd be weird, but what isn't in that show?

I swear there was at least one track that sounded like Jazz… Eh, well, knowing Trigger, the music would mainly fit the mood of the setting and scene, but certainly not the writing. So although OVER THE FUCKING TOP ACTION may not fit to Jazz, the zany characters and such could still work there.

How well, I can't profess a single idea how.

It would have actually good music. :V

Eh, use high tempo Jazz numbers like Cowboy Bebops OP for the tension, over the top action scene's splashed in with more smooth jazz for lighter moments and it would work surprisingly well.

Viking Metal or nothing else.

Personally, I think that Eva would be A.) A lot less grim and dour (because Hip-Hop has, in general, a lot less "class" than opera or classical music) and B.) Would have has a stronger satirical undercurrent, if Anno thought that it would be worth pursuing. Look, Hip-Hop, was at the time or Eva's one of three things; obscure and unknown, treated as a corrupting influence and associated with the scary black man trope, or treated with respect to the point of being borderline religious. Now then, alot of these things are pretty much Evangelion's bread and butter, but here's the thing; Hip-Hop was, at the time, very much associated with minority communities in the West, and also very much not a common genre in anime OST's, even if it was gaining more traction at the time, so Hideaki Anno could have used it to talk about Japan's relationships with it's own minority communities and foreign countries using hip hop as a symbol that could alternate between representing healthy relationships between Japan, it's minorities and the rest of the world, or the exact opposite.... and then connect those relationships to the feelings of alienation and pain felt by the main characters.

Again, I'm 15 and going above and beyond on being pretentious here, so please mock me.

But still, a Viking Metal Frozen would be AWESOME.

Not really interested but I can imagine a few video game what ifs questions.

That would probably be bad.
Doom soundtrack instead of Metal went very religious overtones.
Any game with soft and friendly themes [Kirby, Cooking Mama, ...for Babies] had a hard metal sound track
If a long Final Fantasy game had a glitch and played one or two songs the rest of entire game.[ like Battle at the Big Bridge (Gilgamesh Theme), The final boss music, or the victory jingle on loop.]
If some of the first games [Donky Kong, Pac-Man, Mortal Combat(1)] had bad or no sound effects or/and soundtracks.
The why didn't they do it?
Dark Souls able to use Dragonforce songs [Through the Fire and Flames]

Also found this Thread while looking for a quest. label every thing right or did just pick an odd suggestion? Ok, but then I wouldn't have found this thread.

Well...

You do realize that quests have a dedicated subforum?

And that you're in the wrong one?

Anyway, some commentary on the whole Hip-Hop idea?

..... Homestuck?

Also, think about what the show would be like if it had that kind of music, and go for descriptions longer than one line, please.

It would just be super awkward to watch...

Big Bird: "Hey everyone, let's all head over to Cooper's for some ice cream."

Snuffy: "Excellent idea Big Bird, Cooper's always got the best cream on the street."

Me: *watching the show* "... wat...?"

Eva with Metal Gear Rising's soundtrack.

Just imagine it; the fight with Ramiel starts off normal. Then as Shinji is trapped it the Shoop Da Woop Beam Attack TM...

RULES OF NATURE!

Shinji forms a katana out of his AT field, raises it to the sky, and cuts vertically. The cut then travels through the Shoop Da Woop Beam Attack TM all the way to Ramiel, cleaving the wifu angel in half. After this fight, Shinji's sweat becomes replaced with liquid testosterone, and he starts learning how to fight without his Eva.

Also, the last fight of the series is Shinji vs Lorenz...because nanomachines son.

Super hot with glitch would be a fun ride. Reaaally hammer home the weirdness of popping about.

Anything with the Guilty Gear soundtracks would be great. Especially racing games actually. Or persona.

Swap persona with Jojo while we're at it. It works.

Imagine Doom with trance music could work pretty great.

I'm throwing planets at the screen but nothing's happening!

Also, how many boring LN adapted anime would be saved if they had this song and songs like it in their OST:

And also, how would the tone and plot change to fit this music?

It basically have a lite version feel you would get from the likes of Samurai Champloo and Soul Eater. A cool soundtrack can cover some faults of a average LN, especially if they utilize it right. Some ambient R&B music when it's a slice of life scene of characters walking in town or something and step it up to the heavier lyrical rap stuff for action scenes. Though they might want to adapt the art style a little to match with the music. Some darker shading or more urban artstyle similar to Basquash!

Now a better question would be how good could a urban soundtrack similar to the Gorillaz and some rap and R&B singers be for a fantasy setting.?

.... That would be FUCKING AWESOME.

No, seriously, think about it.

I mean, standard protagonist goes out to kill a dragon, standard protagonist pulls out standard protagonist sword, and then everything

GOES

Ok I got nothing.

You have any ideas?

Basically this:

With a bit less ecchi and a bit more money in the action scenes. With the ink being used as the energy waves and stuff like that.

Alright, but what about something like a- a- I dunno, Lord of The Rings, with it's soundtrack composed by Gorrilaz?

It would be more like the original animated series they did back in the 70's or 80's I believe. How trippy that one could get would fit a Gorrilaz soundtrack.

The live action version with that soundtrack couldn't or wouldn't be done as could you not imagine the backlash it get from such a different feeling it convey compared to a more standard high fantasy soundtrack? I wouldn't want to be the brave dumbass who would even suggest it.

Alright, but think about what would happen if you asked Disney to make a musical... and then told them that Gorrilaz would be doing most of the composing and some of the animation.

No, seriously, would that not be fucking awesome?
