What, as a descriptor of race? It does not make sense. "Caucasian" makes more sense and it still does not make sense.

On point that Coates made is that he doesn't think America will become a Majority-Minority country. Instead, it's likely that the definition of 'White' will probably expand to include at least a subset of Latin-americans and probably Asians as well.

What people been considered within american society has expanded over the years from the original English colonists as the country has grown and evolved though at times it also has constricted like the 1920s when euthenics became all the rage and it was conveniently forgotten that many white families had multiracial backgrounds and laws were made to preserve 'racial purity' via one drop rule laws(though the one drop rules passed in the 1920s conveniently put in loopholes to not cover first families of various states like Virginia).

"Redskins", so yeah, I'm pretty sure he's implying the natives are better than the swarthy Germans. I don't know if there's any logic behind that, but Franklin was kind of personally offended at the Germans trying to move into Pennsylvania at the time (anecdotally, I believe he was upset they wouldn't read his paper, and were printing their own german language one instead or something?)

I'm vaguely fond of Old Ben, but I'm pretty sure his... problematic attitudes went beyond being upset at Germans snubbing his newspapers.

Whites were the royalists while the Reds were the non royalists, tho the Reds were mostly various forms of socialism and communism.

And, as everyone should know, the Reds beat the Whites and formed what would eventually become Soviet Russia.

The Whites were actually politically diverse. Sure there were royalist, but there were also Liberals, Republicans, Conservatives, Mensheviks, Right-SRs, Aristocrats, Nationalists, and anti-semites.

He's definitely just a racist, but I remember the newspaper thing as being like, a flashpoint where he started writing letters about it, so it might just be a personal reason he's getting on the soap box about how they'll be forcing us to write laws in their language, etc etc. It's a slight to him, or feels like one of the letter.

I'm only getting this from one document though. The point was more the similarities between this and modern immigrant culture, and a bit of the fluidity of which groups get blame and hate and which don't? Sorry if I'm making a mess of it.

But I do think Racism can be deep and really virulent and also petty, in a lot of ways? The targets don't have to come from anything real.

True but there is a certain social concept or ideal that is the mould for what a lot the Alt-Right in america bases their rhetoric around. White as a race is stupid but as a unifying cultural stereotype? That I feel is very much real and alive in the political discourse of today and before in earlier years though still dumb. The exact meaning of that changes as noted by the thread but there seems to be some basic values that stick with it. Now how those values change and morph with different states in America or again noted by the thread South America is also part of the question.
