That's been my experience across most fandoms.
Fanfics rarely finish.
Worm just has filters that seem to expedite it. Coil, Cauldron, Endbringers and Scion. Wildbow twisted his setting into a pretzel, and a lot of authors have a hard time dealing with that without either straight jettisoning that entirely or just regurgitating Canon.
