You wake up to an endless void.
What the fuck. Seriously, I never have dreams this abstract. Sure they can be trippy, but they're usually about some extremely improbable series of events at familiar locations rather than
this. An endless void? What is an endless void anyway? Does it completely lack any and all matter apart from me? Is it simply nothingness stretching on to infinity? But that couldn't be, because I was here and not dead or that uncomfortable. Actually, it was nicer here than where I'd come from. Assuming I had actually traveled somewhere and this wasn't just a mental abstraction.
So much for the infinite void, stretching onwards til all things are reduced to nothing. The fact that sound carries here indicates that there is a medium for it to travel through, so we can't even be in space. But then my continued state of not-death required an atmosphere, and thus a medium for sound to travel in, so this was just more information I already kne-
holy fuck someone else is here!.
A human figure walks into view.
How does that even work, anyway? Is this really just a room with a fancy floor or something? Because that's a pretty fucking massive downgrade from an infinite void.
"Welcome. Now, I'm sure you're wondering why I've brought you here."
I've been around certain websites long enough and seen a fair bit of TNG; so I knew exactly what those words meant. ROB, as I have just decided to call this utter wanker of a possibly omnipotent being, meant that all my previous speculation was useless and I should just go with "magic" as an explanation for everything. Which is better than a room with a fancy floor, I suppose.
The image of a city ripples into existence.
Well I'd quote the WIzard of Ozx, but that would just be tacky. As I looked at the image, a dawning horror came upon me.
No fucking way. No way that this is the city I think it is! I mean sure they
look rather similar and sure that would be within ROB's theoretical powers but come on, why'd it have to be
that universe! That place runs on insane troll logic, and about as hospitable to inhabitation by normal, squishy humans like me as Catachan.
"Due to a...situation, I am relocating you to here." It getsures at the city.
Have I reiterated how unfair that it had to be
this universe yet? Why couldn't I have gotten Star trek or something. Wait, that would also be bad. The point is, I'm feeling that a normal human getting dumped into a deadly universe in place where they don't even speak the local language isn't going to do too well for themselves.
However, I'm not a monster. I'm not going to just dump you there with nothing."
Oh, it's one of
those ROBs. The power granting ones. Maybe this won't be as bad as I've been hyping it up to be. I wonder what powers and/or epic loot he'd be giving out today? Random superpowers, one fictional item of your choice? Hopefully not avatars, that'd be way too tacky.
The city ripples out again.
"Firstly, I'm forging you into a new form. You'll need it to survive.
Oh no. This is going to end up with genderbending, isn't it? Or being a giant dragon. Personally, I'd rather go the giant dragon route. Because being able to breathe fire on people was awesome.
Secondly, I have an objective for you. Complete it, and I shall reward you with both knowledge and power."
Sweet. Hopefully that power will include "can get back home with superpowers intact" power. That was a good power.
As even the void starts to fade, the figure leans in and delivers a final mesage.
That's not so ba-
I woke to pain. In fact, I'm fairly certain that I was more pain than person at that point. Everything hurt all at once; in a way that's simply impossible to describe. Every single cell in my body was screaming that this really fucking hurt and that they'd like it to stop now, please. After a few moments, it stopped hurting so much.
I noticed a few things then. One, I was now in a female body. Two, I was wearing some sort of bodysuit. Three, it looked an awful lot like the current Captain Marvel's suit, which would fit with the whole now a woman thing. Four, I was fucking falling to earth at a rather significant speed above Fuyuki.
Man, was I glad that I could fly now. I felt Carol's memories, her experiences that stretched over a life more than twice as long as mine. Without them, and the elements of her personality that I felt begin to merge with my own, I'd have very likely gone splat in about a second or two. As it was, I managed to arrest my descent and put myself down somewhere.
Well, I guess this is not the worst case scenario. At least I got some sweet superpowers out of the deal. Now, what the fuck am i going to do now? I could try and kill Lancer, but he was an alright guy from what I remembered of Fate/Zero. Killing him would hardly be heroic. Then I remembered about canon caster and his master. They would need to be dealt with post-haste.
Now how would I go about finding a serial killer and his demented French buddy? Actually, where was I? To answer that question, I began to walk along the side street I'd landed in; trying to find a major road and hopefully some place that sold maps. Maybe if I got my bearings, I could begin to think more about what to do, and if I was going to complete my objective.
