The year is now 1949, and humanity has already returned to its old ways of conflict and strife. North America lies in tatters as enclaves and arcologies vie with each other whether to revive the old system or build something new, the reborn great powers of Europe carve out their spheres of influence as reverse-engineered technology redefines how they approach the world, and the formerly colonized peoples of the world struggle with the void created from the global collapse and the scars left by the invaders - known only as the Maw.
