This Unit May Have A Soul: A RWBY Megaman Crossover

[X]No one: Dr. Poledina smiled "Can I show you something?" He then showed you a girl. "This is Penny… the first artificial being to have an aura… so I hope. Would you like to meet her?"
[X]Your Camouflage mode: You have a semblance of an idea about how it works. It allows synthetic skin to cover all your body, save your boots. It also stores your Megablaster within your arm. You can pass as a normal, it odd, human child.

I would presume never, unless someone goes and bring Light back to life. X was a damn miracle, better than Mega in every single way, Lights absolute crowning achievement. And of course Wily refused to be bested, and made Zero, but those two robots were more advanced than anything their world had seen before and for a good long while since.
Protoman is, among other things, still alive.
Woo! Robo Brother!
Now is he sane, and rational (for an AI that is) No, he's not.
... Poo. Something has funked him up more than just a faulty power core. If it was Salem, she better watch her back!

... um... oh. Don't ask for things like that, you'll only be disappointed.

And who says he's dead?
I'm not asking for anything. Just stating how I'd think events would play out. It might happen, but if it does and X lives up to his Canon Counterpart, we'll just be completely and utterly outclassed.

The leading cause of death among fictional scientists, is "accidental" explosions destroying their labs. Only bad guys get to survive that stuff, and usually horribly mutilated. Geeze Magoose, have you EVER read a story. :V

I have, and found those tropes boring. Because it's always the bad guys! Why can't the good guy survive that crap!?

ON a more serious note, presumably because if a good-guy survives apparent death like that you kinda undermine all of the emotional stuff that said death caused. If you want the good guy to come back, it's "best" to play their death as a mystery, not a fairly sure thing, to have a hint of the emotional stuff without going full in. Deaths are suppose to be final, and subversion of that is pretty criticized as to make death meaningless (comic books being a prime example, no one who dies stays dead).

If the BAD GUY survives apparent death, however, the emotional undertones of said death never carried morbid finality of a good-guy death but just the catharsis of come-uppance, of which his return is SUPPOSED to undermine. Learning that the bad guy is still alive and being evil is SUPPOSE to get a response of "That Bastard!" with a good helping of "We'll get him THIS time!"
Edit : There's still a limit to how many times a bad-guy can get away with it, before there isn't any catharsis anymore in their defeat but just frusteration knowing they'll inevitably come back, but that still allows for a couple revivals while a good-guy rarely even gets 1

"My camouflage mode." You stated as you felt a strange sensation wiring your way through your mind. It was… different.

Maybe it was some routine programming speaking to you… or maybe it was your own thoughts and actions that wanted you to choose it. Phantom programming that seemed impossible to comprehend. You could think, feel, and understand the world, but not yourself.

Maybe it was a way to do so… from humans.

"Alright, lay back onto the table, you're going to be in maintenance mode for a few hours, so try to relax." Dr. Poledina stated. "Uh… if you can?"

"I will Doctor." You replied as you laid on the table.

Maintenance Mode Activated, entering partial shutdown.

And your world went black.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you awoke, you had skin on your body, as well as a pair of blue shorts and a blue t-shirt. They clung to you tight, and you didn't see anything resembling fabric. The clothes if you could call them that, were made entirely of metal.

"Well, I'll be… your synthetic skin is amazing… do you mind If I take a sample from your finger?" The doctor asked.

"Yeah, sure Doctor." You replied.

"Well, besides your body missing several anatomical bits that I'm sure you would have no use for, you look like a kid." The doctor replied as he took off a small piece of your skin from your finger. "Amazing, it has a regenerative function, not unlike some of the nanotech that I've read papers on."

The doctor mused. You looked at your hand and saw the piece that was ripped off slowly grow back over the robotic limb. "Doctor, is that really necessary? At least at this very moment?" You replied.

"Oh sorry." The Doctor stated sheepishly. "I'm just… wondering about something."

"Is there anything you need from me?" You asked.

"No Rock… I just need a few minutes." He replied. "Please."

"Of course." You replied. You then powered down to standby mode… the closest thing you had to what the humans considered sleep.

Reward: Camouflage mode reactivated. You can now interact as a human instead of a robot. You can now gain a human identity if you wish to have one. You are now less likely to be taken by the Atlesian Science brigade for experimentation as you have exhibited no new combat protocols or equipment.

Penny now gains an Upgrade: Perfect Skin: She can now blend into the world like a real girl… minus the magnets that she must worry about sticking to her clothes. But those can be explained away quite quickly… if acted upon fast enough.

[X]No one: Dr. Poledina smiled "Can I show you something?" He then showed you a girl. "This is Penny… the first artificial being to have an aura… so I hope. Would you like to meet her?"

You awoke to Dr. Poledina lightly tapping your arm. "Wake up Rock, can I show you something?"

"Of course doctor?" You replied. "Why would I not want to see something in your lab?" You asked.

"I just wanted to have your opinion, I'm not forcing you to do anything you aren't comfortable with, that includes following every order."

"Doctor, as much as your empathy gives me great pause and respect for you, my primary functions are still to help people and follow the orders of those who activate me, and place themselves as primary users, as you have done so upon my first reactivation." You stated. "I will do what I am programmed to do."

The doctor nodded. "Fair enough. I would have thought as an AI you would have more… will involved?"

"What does that mean?" You asked.

"Never mind Rock, just follow me." The doctor deflected and you followed the spider chair towards a back room, hidden from the others. The door was closed. "Access Pietro Poledina, Codeword Pinnochio."

"Access Granted." A robotic voice replied. "Unauthorized unit detected!"

A large laser canon rose from the floor, and pointed at you. You could see the energy charging and you prepared to jump out of the way.

"Access Guest, Codeword Relic." The Doctor stated quickly, as the turret deactivated and slid back into the floor. "Sorry about that, don't normally have guests with me when showing her off."

"Her off?" You asked.

"You'll see." The doctor replied.

The lights turned on as the door shut behind you. And you saw a large cylinder with a person… no, machine in it. It was robot, but unlike you, it was taller, and seemed to be built, less like a child, more as an adult or teenager. It was lacking parts in several areas, like much of the skin on its extremities, and it's hair looked like it was being welded on, strang by strang.

The weapons attached to it were swords, on strings, but you could see the humming green glow of its power generator.

"This is Penny. The first artificial being to have an aura… so I hope. Would you like to meet her?" He asked.

"Uh… si, why do you have a hidden room for this kind of project? Is it that important that no one know's about it?" You asked.

"Yes. I have hypothesized for years that a machine could, in theory, generate an aura, or failing that, could hold an aura within its body. Dr. Light and Wily's papers inspired me to try, even though I lacked their extraordinary genius, and materials. But I was right… mostly at least, there are a few components that I still have no idea how to create, not without Dr. Light's research, or Dr. Wily's schematics. They claimed to have the answers, but since both of them are dead, I had to recreate them both from scratch." He paused. "I finally got it, but Penny is just a prototype, not fully complete yet."

"What's she missing?" You asked.

"Several things that would help her be a better person, so to speak. Ironwood wanted her to be a weapon. I wanted her to be a person. She is a weapon alright, but I want her to be more."

"Why?" You asked. "Isn't that what they want, a humanoid weapon?"

"That just it. I designed her to be a fully independent machine, that can learn, interact and make her own choices. A true Artificial intelligence." He sighed. "Not just another machine to be thrown away."

"You make this sound personal." you stated.

"It is personal." The doctor said.

"Why?" You asked.

"I made a mistake, a long time ago… a mistake that has haunted me every day of my life since then. This is my way of atoning for that mistake." The Doctor replied. "I'm asking you again Rock… do you want to meet Penny?"

Do you Activate Penny?:

AN: Enjoy.

[X]Yes: "Yes sir."

Not too happy with the three "what say" votes so far, but I'm also currently not capable of thinking up anything that sounds good, so I'll just have to wait and see if someone else comes up with something I like

I wonder if Atlas's fighting force is composed of Joes. They ARE robots made by Wily made explicitly for fighting purposes after all. Based off Protoman.

Not Atlas itself, but several other companies use them in addition to other robots. The SDC has quite a few of them to protect cargo trains.

[X]Yes: "Yes sir."

[X]"Hi Penny!" In an excitable manner.

Right my problem with the other write-in's is that they either make him sound like an old X, or way too much like Penny herself so I feel having him act like an excitable 10 year old makes more sense
