Speaking of being a being of Vast Cosmic Power, why are we unable to fire laser beams without the parasol's help? How is it we're the child of a fallen star with only a minor aspect of death, and yet necromancy comes to us easier than firing cosmic beams? We can at least do necromancy by ourselves, but for cosmic beams, we apparently need the prop of a parasol? Why?

You're not really sure how. No one ever gave you any instruction on it, and your interest in doing so disappeared with the whittling away of years in an isolated tower.

Ariela might be able to convince Pariya on the basis of her own self-interest that if Ariela is imprisoned for treason, Pariya will be under suspicion as well. Besides, you're sure that the master has enough feelings for her apprentice that she wouldn't condemn her to death. Perhaps it would even be possible for Pariya to join you if Ariela convinced her enough...?

I can't believe that Danger Bird had betrayed Ariela like that. After all that time being togther he sold her to the authorities the first chance he got?

Hmm, well... Independence was one of the options Starfall felt she needed (if not what ended up being the most important). And also, I do want Starfall to learn to be a proper celestial object able to shoot her own cosmic beams without her parasol's help. Take control of your heritage Starfall!

Pffft! As if Starfall is capable of not saying/doing something absurd in the face of danger.
 
I mean, obviously, to make it clear, something is off. The magician expected Starfall to know everything and to be able to break off a magical bond instantly. The countess told Starfall she would have been expected to be a major element of Imperial statecraft. None of this exactly squares with Starfall's upbringing, which was being stuck in a tower for fifty years with nothing to do. She didn't even know she was meant for the empress in the first place.

All of this is obviously being wrung for laughs, but I do have plans.

This is similar to a plan that I proposed previously, and I still like it so I'm going with it.

I realize there might be plot behind this current clusterbomb of a situation but I'm still certain we basically should not be allowed to drive Starfall lest we do so right into an erupting volcano. Again.
