The Will of D(etermintation): UndertalexOne Piece CK2

Okay, so we know Asgore can defeat people like Don Kreig, Arlong, and Walpol. That gives us some idea of how powerful he is.

Turn 1 Results

It's been a busy month. Ups and downs to be had, but that's not surprising considering the fact that the news of the broken Barrier has swept through the Underground. You've been acting as King more in the past month than had been required in the past 5 years! It's not necessarily a bad thing, but goodness it's nice to get home and just have a cup of tea to settle your nerves and quiet your mind.

Martial: 30+97=127 (Natural Critical Success!)

Well. This...this is quite the turn up.

There is a large, circular table within the Council Hall in New Home, not to far from your house. Traditionally, this is where the Clan heads will meet every other year or so to discuss any issues or proposals. You represent the Boss Monsters, Whimsalot the clan of Whimsums, Final Froggit for the Froggit clan, an old Vegatoid by the name of Sproutina who helps ensure everyone has enough to eat. Knight Knight represents a number of the more mercenary monsters, which is a very pleasant surprise for you; you'd expected to have to pay for them to aid your Guard, but somehow they got word of the potential dangers of the Overground, and they put aside their current contracts to serve the kingdom.

You see many other familiar faces present as well; in fact, a showing of this scale hasn't happened since the Core came online! Gerson, Bob of the Temmies, Grillby for the elementals, Muffet for the spiders…

In fact, every single chair is filled save for one. And for the life of you, you can't remember which Clan holds that seat.

You file the thought for later examination; there's no way you'd forget a Clan, so the fact that you clearly have is quite disturbing. For now though, you'll focus on the current matter.

"My friends, thank you for coming on such short notice," you say once the typical greetings have been made. "You all are here for both wonderful, and difficult news.

"Firstly, the Barrier is broken."

The response is magical in the most literal manner possible. Bullets of all possible shapes and sizes fly everywhere as the cheers can be heard even outside of the Council Hall. To see everyone this thrilled warms your SOUL, but of course, there's always more to discuss.

It only takes a small flare to get everyone to settle down again, and you continue. "The Barrier is gone, but the Surface is not yet safe. The young human who saved us, Frisk, has lost their entire family and home nearby the mountain to predators of their own kind. What is worse, Frisk has told me that the only unusual thing about the attack was that their small village was a target."

Whispers of empathy and sadness echo around the table; the child that saved them suffered losses of their own. As Monsters can all interact with the SOUL, this kind of pain is hard not to sympathise with.

"They have told me as much of the surface world as they could in the short time they've been with us," you say. "To cover everything would be difficult, as we have much to do before we attempt a move to the Overground. This includes ensuring that our people will be protected from any other humans who might attempt to harm us, or our savior."

You gesture to an armored Undyne, and she stands up, promptly giving her proposal. "If you can spare them, I'd like to see an applicant from each Clan here," she says, being much more formal than would be typical, but the situation does call for it. "Strength is good, but adaptability is even better. We don't know a lot about the Surface just yet, so we need people who can react to surprises and think on their feet."

"Wahahahaha! Undyne, you make this old man proud!" Gerson exclaims. "If I weren't so old, I'd volunteer in a snap!"

This seems to let a dam loose; not every monster can fight, but each Clan offers support in their own way. Bob promises to get the Temmies to help finance the expanding guard, while Muffet and Sproutina start discussing ways of increasing food production that won't result in nasty rations. Goodness knows what that can do to morale.

The more combat inclined monsters, including the representative of the Mercenaries, each promise to find a champion of their Clan. The leaders might not be able to serve themselves, but at this point, the outpouring of support is leaving you misty-eyed and just a bit speechless.

Good thing Undyne is willing to speak for you, her grin stretching from fin to fin. "Fufufufufu! This is gonna be awesome!"

(Enlistment and expansion of the Royal Guard will be an option next turn. Training will be available next turn.)

Diplomacy: 17+90=107 (Natural Critical Success!)

On the one hand, you shouldn't be surprised that Mettaton immediately jumps on the opportunity to represent Monsters to the world above. You are surprised when he drags along Shyren, his cousin Napstablook, Papyrus, and Frisk along.

"Your Majesty!" the robotic ghost calls out dramatically.

"Good morning everyone," you say with a smile. Goodness, someone's energetic today. "And it's Asgore as long as it's not business."

"I have a magnificent proposal for you, therefore it is business, your Majesty!" Mettaton counters. "I know you're looking for someone to assist you in representing Monster-kind as a whole, and I came up with a most excellent idea!"

"I'M GOING TO BE A MASCOT!" Papyrus cheers, unable to contain his excitement at the idea.

"Mettaton wants to make a show band," Frisk manages to get past the two excitable monsters. "Shyren's got a really pretty voice, and Napstablook is good with music. Mettaton for showy stuff, and Paps because he's so friendly! And I'm human, so I can help make it look friendly for everyone!"

You...don't quite know what to make of the proposal. It's got a certain amount of appeal, but… "How do you plan on performing for others if we can't leave the island?"

There's silence for several moments before both Papyrus and Mettaton wail in despair. Shyren winces as the volume, and Frisk is very clearly trying not to laugh at the two kings of drama.

You chuckle. "It's a fun idea you two, but we need to start small first. How about you help me plan for any visitors we'll get in the event that they're friendly?"

(Mettaton is now your primary Diplomatic Advisor! Frisk will help mediate his more extreme ideas, and you get a +2 bonus for all Diplo rolls thanks to Papyrus' morale boost.)

Stewardship: 13+11=24 (Bare Fail)

"Not yet, Asgore."

You try not to wince, but perhaps raising the question only two weeks after the six fallen children's funeral may not have been the best idea. Still, it's not a no, and you say, "I understand T-Toriel." You barely remind yourself not to call her Tori last second.

"Some days I wondered." The barb loses most of its strength when she sounds as tired as you feel. "I'm still angry. But with what happened at the funeral...and the fact that Frisk's family may still be out there, suffering. I will be able to work with you, but not yet. Give me some time."

"Whatever you need," you reply honestly. You think the kingdom can go without for a little bit longer.

(Toriel will become the Stewardship advisor in 3 months.)

Intrigue: 10+35=45 (Success)

Two monsters come to your attention when it comes to matters of subtly and (potentially) spying.

Grillby the flame elemental. Thanks to him running one of the most successful watering holes in the Underground, he knows just about everyone, not that he'd typically use the information for what could be considered to be malicious purposes. Still, from what little information you've gleaned about these pirates and marines, places like Grillby's will see quite a bit of activity should the establishment be moved to the Overground. There's potential there for gathering information, but what kind?

The other significant monster is the young ruler of the Spider clan, one Muffet Tuffet. She's only a year or two older than Frisk, too young to immediately employ, but you can already see how potentially useful her spider network could be. It would be a simple matter to ask a few spiders to board the next merchant ship and disembark within the next island. From there, infiltrating various members of the clan to the islands and ships surrounding Ebbot would be a snap.

Of course, there's always the risk of getting caught. Or squashed; spider monsters are particularly fragile after all. Something to consider.

Lore: 22+15=35 (Success)

Alphys has been doing better these days in terms of her self confidence, and the fact that the Amalgamate monsters have been welcomed back to their families seems to have relieved a great weight from her shoulders. That being said, hearing her swear and being reduced to angry gibberish when you poked your head in while she'd been crawling in certain parts of the Core was quite the surprise. You suspect she might've picked up some of that language from Undyne, but as long as neither of them slip up in front of Frisk, you won't comment. That being said, Alphys later reports that it's a good thing that all you requested was maintenance, as it had been all she had time for this month.

Learning: 15+83= 101 (Natural Critical Success...Again.)

Amalgamates

You have a few days of downtime, and you take advantage of that to figure out a good way of meeting all of the Amalgamate monsters. Considering the fact that they're currently scattered across the Underground, it might take you a couple of days to arrange and speak with all of the families, as well as Alphys. So you get started.

Fortunately, time seems to be on your side; all of the families are willing to speak with you and Alphys at the same time; helpful for some of the monsters who have issues with communication such as Lemon Bread and Reaper Bird.

They are actually among the first you meet; your SOUL goes out to Lemon Bread, who must deal with the conflicting facts that parts of itself despises physical contact, while others crave it. Still, members of their families on all sides of themselves have given the Amalgamate their full support, so you take comfort in the fact that they are not alone.

Reaper Bird also has issues with contact; Alphys is one of the few beings period who is able to approach the solitary conglomeration of beings without them getting testy. Still, they seem to be pleased to be out of the lab and able to travel at their purview, so you are content to leave them be.

Thin One is one of the Amalgamates who does not speak at all; despite this, you can feel their caring nature. Alphys tells you that they helped take care of the other Amalgamates, and even had looked after Frisk for a little when the child had wound up in the Labs. You thank them for helping Alphys and Frisk even when they were going through such difficult times. They simply nod, finish the tea you'd offered, and vanish from sight.

Endogeny is amongst the friendliest and easiest to understand; you enjoy your time with them and the Dog families, offering tea and non illicit dog treats (you try not to give too much of a Look at Doggo). Endogeny's ability to be anywhere one looks if it's inclined to do so is surprising, and potentially very powerful. You are reminded of Sans' shortcut ability, and mention as such to Alphys.

This gets you a discourse of quantum physics that leaves you quite bamboozled. You're somewhat intimidated when Alphys then tells you that she's no expert at the subject herself. You decide to leave that topic be for now.

Snowdam is a lovely lady, and you will forever say so regardless of anyone else's opinion. She appreciates your tea and treats, and young Snowdrake does his best to entertain you all with his puns and jokes. It gives you a bit of a pang, being reminded of Toriel, but the boy is trying his best, and you encourage his efforts. Laughter is a precious thing, no matter what else is happening in the world.

The Memoryheads...you don't quite know what to make of them. You're also fairly certain they're amongst those that had scared Frisk badly. They seem to be most able at transforming their physical forms, disguising themselves as, well, anything that can be in reach and in sight. Fortunately, they contain their mischief within Alphys' office and the less sensitive areas in the Core, moving through the pipes. They might actually be able to help her...if they can restrain themselves from scaring everyone silly who passes.

Personal:

Out and About - Snowdin: 91

Somehow, you manage to get some downtime between all the meetings and hectic going ons, and the River Person is kind enough to take you to Snowdin without much trouble.

"Tralala~ The winds bring color next week. Tralala~"

"Oh?" The River Person is well known for being enigmatic to the point of silliness, so most people don't take them seriously. You like trying to parse what they say though, as it's just another form of puzzles for you. "It sounds like there might be a rainbow above the Overground then. That would be lovely to see!"

"Indeed~" they agree with notable cheer. "Such a sight may bring hope and healing. Trala~"

You hit the Snowdin stop soon after, and you give your thanks for the ride. You thick fur means you only need a long sleeved shirt and a sturdy pair of pants despite the permanent snow in the area. You shift the bag hanging off one shoulder, and give and are given warm greetings when you enter the town proper; you spend some time talking with everyone and checking to see how everyone is doing.

Some of the younger Monsters aren't sure what to make of the reports that the Barrier is broken; when you tell them that Frisk played a key part in that, and that the child is quite fine and indeed staying with Papyrus and Sans this week, the kids immediately take off to pester Frisk. Whoops. Oh well, Papyrus should take the visitors well, he's already got a young fan.

The adults are much happier about the Barrier, though there's mild irritation that they're not allowed to visit the surface. When you mention some of the potential dangers though, they are more understanding, especially when they learn that Frisk had been fleeing from those dangers.

You stop by the library, and glance at the sign in an amused manner. Some things never change. But you're here for a delivery, and you plan on fulfilling it.

"Howdy everyone! I've got some new books," you announce, making all the Monsters perk up.

"Oh, Asgore! New books you said?" the librarian chirps. "Salvage?"

"Actually, a few of them are from the Overground proper," you answer, making the librarian squeak in surprise and pleasure. "Young Frisk allowed us to take a look at their village, and we found these texts. It took some translating, but here they are!"

"Oh that's fantastic!" "Proper books from humans?!" "You're the best King ever!"

You laugh as you hand out the translated texts to be sorted. You'll likely have to set up language classes at a later date, but for now, time to make the week for bookworms in Snowdin.

Seven SOULs, Six Bodies (Auto Success)

The day is a clear one when the memorial is held. You and the Guard, who all volunteered, carry out the six coffins; light in weight, but heavy in your SOUL.

Toriel and Frisk are with you, the child insisting that they help lay their fellow humans to rest. Toriel had been against it at first, but when Frisk said that the SOULs of the children had helped them during the battle that all of your have difficulty remembering, neither of you could bring yourselves to stop them.

There is a lovely spot on the foothills of the mountain, with a good view of seas surrounding the island. The sunset will be visible from here every day; Frisk mentioned that Alabastans consider such a view good for the dead, as the setting sun will help guide their SOULs to the afterlife. You don't know if that is true, but you hope the thought counts for the children.

James. Penelope. Ingrid. Pami. Boru. Kristina. The names of six children you killed are carved on simple, basalt memorials. A single gemstone in the shape of a heart indicates the color of their Trait, placed just below their names.

Toriel doesn't bother hiding her tears as the coffins are placed within the plots already excavated, and her pain magnifies your own. You can't find any words to make this right, so for now, you don't try.

You help bury each child, the silence only broken by the sound of shifting earth. Undyne is uncharacteristically quiet; considering the way her eye shifts to Frisk occasionally, you wonder if she imagines Frisk being buried alongside these six children.

When each coffin is fully covered, Frisk surprises you all by approaching each grave. To Pami's grave, they pull out a faded ribbon tied in a bow around a toy knife, and place it down. Toriel chokes back a gasp, and you look to her, unsure as to what is happening.

To Boru goes a rough leather glove and a bandanna. To Ingrid, a dusty tutu and a worn pair of ballet shoes.

Then it strikes you. All of these items belonged to the children who died. Ingrid you remember well, having fought back on several occasions and dusted several monsters. The oldest of the children at 14, she'd had an unusual, coldly focused ferocity; it was the only time you'd moved from the castle to seek a human personally. You're only grateful that she had never harmed Toriel.

To Penelope, an old notebook and a pair of broken glasses. James, the rider's hat and the gun that had nearly dusted several monsters, though the boy always restrained from the final blow. And finally, to Kristina, a cast iron frying pan and a stained apron.

Frisk stands back and begins to speak. "I'm sorry I was never able to meet you properly. But I'm really happy I know all of your names now." They wipe a sleeve across their face, and you've given up holding back your own tears. "You saved my life, even when you were already gone. I'll never forget you, any of you. Thank you all, so, so much."

(Hidden Roll: 93)
Hardly a second after Frisk's impromptu eulogy, the six gems begin to shine brightly. Then, before all of your eyes, six painfully familiar outlines shimmer into existence.

You don't understand what is happening, but all six...spirits? Ghosts? They crowd around Frisk, James and Boru taking turns trying to hug the young human, Ingrid holding a hand to her invisible face at their actions while Penelope hangs just outside the circle. Kristina seems to be speaking animatedly, and Pami lingers close to Frisk, seemingly content to listen.

You can't hear anything from the spirits, but Frisk doesn't have that problem, responding gladly to them in the rapid way only children can.

"Uh...Asgore?" Undyne whispers. "What...what's happening?"

"I honestly have no idea," you barely manage to speak, your throat thick through your tears. "Perhaps a miracle."

"Mom! Mom! Look, everyone's here!" Frisk turns, their eyes shining in joy. Then Ingrid seems to speak, and they turn, asking, "You...you can't stay?"

All of them shake their heads, and Frisk seems to deflate. "Oh...you should say goodbye then."

As the children flock to Toriel, she comes down on one knee; whatever it is that won't allow Frisk to touch them, doesn't bother your former Queen any. She takes each of them into her arms, crying openly and yet smiling brightly at the same time.

"My---my children, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to protect you…!"

"They don't blame you Mom," Frisk interrupts as gently as they can. "It's not your fault, not any of it." All of them nod, resulting in all of them, including Frisk, getting pulled in for another hug.

You keep back, not wanting to intrude. Not when you're responsible for much of this pain. Of course, this means that Boru catches sight of you, and points you out in a rather dramatic fashion.

Pami hides behind Toriel, Ingrid steps forward in a challenging manner, Katrina is holding Boru back from charging, and James is patting himself, likely for a weapon. Penelope then seems to speak up, and Frisk calls out, "She's right, no fighting! It's not gonna help anyone!"

All of them relax at that. Boru slumps in Katrina's hold, prompting the girl to drop him. Pami pokes her head out from behind Toriel, Ingrid turns her head and seems to sniff in a haughty manner, and James crosses his arms moodily.

The...almost mundane way the children act lets you find your voice. "I...understand if you will not forgive me," you say, bowing your head to the seven. "No, not understand, but accept. Toriel...is right in that I took a cowardly path when it came to my people. To wait until someone fell into the Underground...and that every time that a human did, they were always a child." It takes effort to keep your voice clear. "It will take decades, if not centuries, until I will be able to forgive myself. Perhaps not even then. As...as a former parent myself." You take one knee and bow to the spirits of the children you killed. "You have nothing but my utmost apologies, and my promise that I will not harm another human if I can help it."

"...James wants to know if that includes defending the Underground," Frisk translates after a moment, and you let yourself look up.

"If the alternative is the dust of my people, then I will take up my trident," you say honestly. "But I will seek every other alternative first."

The yellow shadow of James nods decisively at that. "That's OK then," Frisk says with a smile.

The living child then looks to the others. "You gotta go soon? Anything else you want to say?"

Boru seems to say something, and Frisk sticks their tongue out at them. "That's for me to know and you to wonder," they say mischievously, and the boy slumps again. Whatever it was that he said, it results in Penelope, of all people, to smack his shoulder, and the others laugh.

There's one last round of hugs for Toriel, with her telling them all, "Be good for me, will you? I love you, each and every one of you." Even the stoic Ingrid lingers in her hold for a few moments, before all six children step back.

Boru, James, Pami, and Katrina wave as the glowing gems begin to dim. Penelope does the same in a much more shy manner, while Ingrid gives everyone a single nod. And then they vanish, as if they never were.

It's a less somber group that returns to the mountain, everyone lost in thought, yourself included. What you saw should've been impossible, flew in the face of everything you knew. In this instance though, that's not a bad thing. Not when closure has finally been had.

We know anything "touched" by the sea can affect devil fruit users, but what about the supernatural? Haki and magic can be considered supernatural, right? If Haki can allow the person to hurt logia users and any devil fruit user with an ability to be invulnerable to an attack, could magic do the same?

So @Walkers a thought occurs, have you ever played the fan fight Undertale: Red?

To vampire, I honestly haven't gotten that far yet in terms of cosmology; it's still really early in the game, and you've got two more turns at least until you have to worry about encounters. This also gives me time to hammer out more long term details like that.

To systems, I've seen walkthroughs for Red, so I am somewhat familiar with her character. (I suck at Bullet Hells; I love Undertale, but the fights give me coniption fits.)

Good because I was going to suggest that if we ever manage to get another combat hero unit that it should be her, especially since her sword skills would be pretty easy to translate into One Piece.

Red's Worries (Semi-Cannon)
And this is why I love interactive fiction. Excellent idea!

Speaking of Red...
***

Today was not Red's day.

It started out good. She made a new friend, though it had a very rocky start. Red was still scared for them, but they seemed to be determined to talk to Asgore -- and Red couldn't find it in her to finish the child off herself when they went through all the effort of befriending her. She watched a new episode of Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 after she got back home, which was always a plus. Trolling that nerd on Undernet for a few hours was always funny, too. Although, it was kinda strange that she named herself after the Royal Scientist.

Then she got a call from Greater Dog, talking about an order from Captain Undyne. King Asgore called for a rally of all Royal Guard forces in the Underground, herself and the Dog Squad included. The Dog Squad dispersed earlier to gather the influential monsters of the Underground. If rumor was correct, even Knight Knight was coming out his daily napping cycle to attend the meeting. It was that much of a big deal.

Captain Undyne and Red headed for the throne room through the Hall of Judgement. Meanwhile, Red fiddled nervously with the hem of her coat, looking for even the smallest imperfections. This was the first time meeting King Asgore face to face. Sure, she caught glimpses of him during her training, but Red was always to shy to meet with him. It seemed easier for Captain Undyne to deal with him.

Now, Red was panicking over what to do. Did she forget to bathe? Brush her teeth? Oh god she must look terrible right now her hair was a mess and her breath must smell like week old cinnamon bunnies she has to go back to her house and --

"Geeze Red, chill out a little bit." Undyne casually patted Red on the back, almost causing the smaller monster to fall flat on her face from the force of the blow. "Uh sorry about that. Anyway, don't look so stressed! King Fluffybuns doesn't care about all that boring old decorum crap. Hell, I'm pretty sure that Sans has been wearing that ratty old jacket and shorts of his for months and Asgore doesn't mind."

"He's still our king, you can't call him that!" Red pouted, visible even through her mask and hood. The way Captain Undyne casually nicknamed their king so easily made her somewhat uneasy. Maybe a bit jealous, too. "And it's bad form, captain. What we look like and how we act extends to King Asgore. Besides, Sans is a skeleton. He doesn't need to worry about personal hygeine, unlike us."

Red felt a chill and tap on her shoulder. "so what's good in the hood?"

Yelping, Red quickly turned around, slashing her sword at the unknown assailant. Sans ducked under her clumsy attack. "woah there red, where's the fire?" he joked, unconcerned.

"Sans?" Red blushed, returning her sword into her scabbard. "I'm so sorry!"

"huh, i guess your face matches your hood now. cool." Red flushed even harder. Sans continued, "it's all good, my hood. no need to get red-faced about it. hehehe." He chuckled. "anyway, you heard the good news?"

Sans has always been somewhat of an enigma to Red. Sure, he and his brother were fairly friendly, but he was very evasive about his past. Where he came from, what he did before coming to Snowdin -- it was all a mystery. Although considering that Red knew next to nothing about her own past before the Royal Guard, maybe she wasn't one to judge. They all had their own secrets to bear.

He was also the gatekeeper, despite being the laziest monster that Red had ever known. Coming from someone who has worked with the Dog Squad, that was saying something. Still, he somehow managed to keep his job by being as frustratingly mediocre as possible. Red should know -- she was the one who was usually checking on Sans' posts whenever Captain Undyne was unavailable.

Red nodded excitedly. "Of course I did. The barrier's been broken!" Undernet exploded as news of the barrier breaking leaked out. She would have to live in a hole to have not heard about it. There was a lot of talk around the forums about resettling back on the surface. Honestly, the girl found the idea appealing.

The sunshine, the fresh air, the clear waters... she could practically taste it.

Sans shrugged, stuffing his hands back into his jacket. "it's not all good news, though."

Red stiffened, clenching tightly at the handle of her sword. Of course there was a catch. She was so taken in by the happiness of the moment that she didn't think to consider the consequences. "What do you mean?" she asked.

Sans glanced at her face. "steady on there, you're looking like you're seeing red."

"According to Frisk, it's not a nice world out there. Their village was raided by pirates a short time ago, which drove them here to the Underground. This isn't a rare occurrence, either," answered Undyne, looking uncharacteristically serious. "We need the Royal Guard more than ever."

Red suddenly felt ill -- and angry. Why would someone do something like that? To another member of their species, no less. Frisk was the nicest kid imaginable. They were very willing to skewer themselves on Red's sword, because they cared about her. She was... she was... so PEEVED!

Most of all, Red felt determined. Determined to serve the Royal Guard to the best of her abilities. Determined to protect the innocent monsters of the Underground, from threats both within and without. She might not be strongest or the smartest, but damn it she wasn't going to stop trying! And that's what mattered, right?

Sans looked towards the other end of the hall behind him, leaning against a nearby pillar. "eh, don't let this bag of bones keep you two with his boondoggling. i'll see you ladies later."

Captain Undyne and Red continued on towards the throne room. As Red turned around to look at Sans, however, he seemed to have vanished into thin air.

So strange.

Good because I was going to suggest that if we ever manage to get another combat hero unit that it should be her, especially since her sword skills would be pretty easy to translate into One Piece.

Toriel also counts as a combat hero. Her ATK and DEF are both 80, same as Asgore.

And if things get desperate, there's always Flowey...

Boru seems to say something, and Frisk sticks their tongue out at them. "That's for me to know and you to wonder," they say mischievously, and the boy slumps again. Whatever it was that he said, it results in Penelope, of all people, to smack his shoulder, and the others laugh.
Was Boru asking what gender Frisk was?

Wonder how the monsters will react to learning about the Soul-Soul Fruit? Especially Frisk and Flowey...

Gah, school's getting a bit nuts. I'll have turn 2 up by tomorrow.

@TheHappyVampire Monsters were actually sealed before the Void Century, a bit more than a thousand years ago. The world has changed a LOT since they were pushed Underground...
