The Topaz Championship (Legend of the Five Rings)

I don't know what to write here. Should have been said this earlier but also been busy lately.

Apologies.

Blurgh.

That took way too long. Sorry folks, I just ran into something of a wall with posting, and then felt increasingly awkward as the days drifted by. If you're all still around I'll try to keep things to a better pace from now on.

Speaking of... @Gargulec, up for a side-scene introducing your character? We can probably have you being introduced to Takako etc and just keep the timeline ambiguous, so that you can get placed properly in the next scene without too much trouble.

OK. Serious talk time.

I'm beginning to think that the game is, if not dead, then basically a zombie at this point.

As evidence... look, I started the 'Winter Court at Kyuden Doji' arc in October. It is now May. Six months of real time at a minimum, and we have covered literally one scene of court.

A lot of this is my fault, what with all the delays, but at this point I'm finding it hard to deny what seems increasingly obvious.

It would give me a sad, as this was kind of the game that really got me paying attention to L5R, but yeah, it's been--certainly on the shambolic side lately.

I'd have to try and find another game, hopefully it works out.

I mean, obvious one is enforced/expected post frequency. Which of course has its drawbacks since it shouldn't need formalizing.

Dunno though. I'll miss Soko.

I think part of it is that this particular arc hasn't really seen much action from the PC's? So far it's been mostly reacting to what's going on around them.

In comparison to the previous arcs where we were going out into the city running into criminals, fighting Shadowlands infiltrators, or competing in the Topaz Championship, this one feels much more passive since a lot of us are bushi sitting in a Winter Court that has people such as Kachiko roaming around and thus are unwilling to be majorly proactive (not to mention most of the stuff so far being something to react to rather than act on).

I am feeling kinda bad though since there were major parts of this game that actually got me very excited, such as the end of the Topaz Championship where it was revealed we'd basically be the honor guard of Tsudao.

That's definitely contributing. I've been throwing a lot of XP into making Miyu at least not a liability in the Court, but a lot of us are pretty out of our depth here, so we don't really have much to do except try not to scream internally.

I'm not lying when I say that I like this game and that I was very surprised to get into it. Not only it's like my sixth ever RPG but also the first one that wasn't with the people I usually RP with - which was a challenge on itself.

The issue I had from a while was that... My inexperience in RPing showed a lot. Most of the time I didn't know what I was doing and even less, what I was supposed to do - from spending exp to even, Shizuki's duties and daily life. Adding this to the constant spacing out (either because of work or because I simply didn't want to check SV) and...

Yeah, it's mostly my fault on this.

Still, I do want to continue. Perhaps I just need to read a bit more of everything, L5R or otherwise.

Hmm.

Actually, sort of an idea but maybe a second IC thread? Basically something easy to get at that can handle little tea RP get togethers, slice of life, that sort of thing. I'll admit, I'm less than great about those when they're in conversations, something about the format and out of sight, out of mind, but threads are more visible and then things don't need to be copy pasta'd back in to existence.

I don't know how would that help, honestly. The issue is more about commitment than anything else. :\

Hmm. I suppose I could reboot things by jumping us forwards into a more active arc? If I give people something to do, rather than just a series of events to react to, that seems like it might help get the momentum going again.
