The Republic Divided RP Thread

Dooku nodded, "And there's only so much the Order can do. What you've just described is ultimately why the Independent Movement for Self-Determination exists. We believe that the Republic, as it exists, cannot help the Outer Rim because it is dominated by interests that for various reasons will not do so. And if the Republic will not help us, shouldn't we be allowed to help ourselves?"

"That would be news to your apprentice, Anakin... Skywalker was it?"
"The fault lies with the Chancellor, not the Republic. I am sympathetic to your cause, but I believe in the Republic. Without it, multiple small wars would arise. I will do my part to battle Chancellor Palpatine, and save the Republic from going down a path where there is no going back."

"You misunderstand what I'm saying. There are more people in the galaxy than are under the rule of the Republic. Your apprentice was born on Tatooine, a world ruled by the Hutts. Incidentally, how is your apprentice's mother?"
"You know a Jedi abandons attachments to their past when they enter the Order."

"If the Republic does reform itself to the point it can protect the Outer Rim I'm sure whatever worlds decide to leave will return. But I do not believe that will happen for a long time and not without a shock to the system. I cannot ask the Outer Rim worlds to wait until this reform occurs. They have waited for far too long as it is."

"You know a Jedi abandons attachments to their past when they enter the Order."
"I know that. I also know that she was left as a slave on Tatooine because my former apprentice couldn't get both her and him off-world in the same trip. I'm not criticizing you for that, you couldn't have done anything for her, but don't you think he worries about her from time to time? That it would set his mind at ease to know she was safe somewhere?"

"If they could join me and my movement... Count, I am organizing a movement of opposition against the Chancellor. Any help from the Outer Rim worlds would be welcomed when the voting occurs. Every member's vote counts."

"What are you proposing?"
"First on a personal level, I think you or someone else should check up on Anakin's mother. With that part of his past resolved it would give closure and help him cleanly sever that attachment, thus helping him attain the serenity needed to be Jedi. Second, I am using this prove a point. The Jedi can't afford to be too bound to the Republic. The people outside of it need our protection and they won't get it with the Order relies too much on it."

"I'm not certain that this vote would change matters. Palpatine is not the cause of the problems within the Republic. He is just a symptom of the disease."

"I'll take your words under advisement, but i'm hardly a Master on the council. Surely if you are so concerned for the Order's priorities you could have taken the matter up with someone who can make that kind of decision, like Master Yoda or Master Windu?"

"You can't compare galactic politics to medicine. Althought, for your sake, I'll try" He said.

"Join me, and together we can alleviate the galaxy's symptoms, and achieve a better Republic. Where democracy rules all, and the voice of the Outer Rim shall be heard in the chambers of freedom."

"If I thought it was that simple I would still be a member of the Order. I feel that if the Order is to be shown it needs to change it will something more dramatic than that. Something that would need to come from outside the Order. But that diverges from my original topic Qui-Gon. As I said in my original message I think he would have followed me out of the Order. As his former apprentice, what do you think?"

"Who could say what he would do? I'm sure he'd agree with you that the Order can be better than it is, but i wouldn't say he'd take so drastic an action as to leave."

"I am not so sure. I think he would recognize that the Order has grown too set in its ways, too used to believing that protecting the Republic and protecting the Galaxy are one and the same. The Republic, once a true democracy, has become bound by the interests of the Core Worlds, promoting them above all others. Think of all the Republic could do for the Outer Rim. Halt the Galactic Slave trade, cut down the power of the Hutts, close the Spice Mines of Kessel, etcetera. But it doesn't. As long as the Core Worlds are happy it is content with the status quo. But the Outer Rim is not. All it sees is a Republic that takes what the scum of the galaxy leave for it after they are done exploiting them and forbids them from truly organizing effective means to end these problem, even though the Republic lift a finger for them. Who can blame them for wanting to leav.... I'm sorry I seem to have given too many speeches today. I'm giving them on reflex now."

"It's fine, you are allowed your own opinions, no matter how i disagree. Free speech is one of the rights that the Republic allows after all. Though i must warn you, if you are looking for support, the Jedi Order will maintain its neutrality. It is not our way to change the way things are, only to keep the peace."

"Ah, nice to meet you in person, Chancellor. I will skip formalities and go right to business." Roman made himself comfortable before he continued.

"Your Home Planet of Naboo was illegally invaded by the Trade Federation and your defense forces were crushed. It was the Jedi who saved your world, not any armies of your people. If an army still existed then the Republic could have stopped the attempt. Surely you can see where I am going with this?"

"I have to say you're completely correct with your line of thinking." The Chancellor said solemnly. He pressed his fingers to his temple for a moment, to ease the pain and distress of his current predicament. Gaining composure once again he straightened up.

"I have heard of your current pro-war faction within the government gaining ground. I want to know right now, before we go any further how loyal you are to the Republic.", the Chancellor continued. "I am a patriot, Senator Ruat. And my only priority is maintaining the unity of the Republic and keeping it strong to outlast these self-serving elements that seek to bring us down."

"I served for her in security. I trained at the Corulag Military Academy for her. This Republic is everything for me. and I will die for it." "I refuse to let cowards like Mon Monmtha and Padme weaken a Republic anymore. I refuse to let the Jedi settle things since they can't even control one of their former members. This Republic needs a military to survive this war. And I will be damned if I fail her now."

"This is what the Republic needs right now. Citizens like you." The Chancellor finished, standing up from his chair and moving around to the massive vibroglass panoramic window.

"I am going to call the Senate for a vote soon. I want to know now that I have you and your pro-war faction in my corner when the vote comes to a head. We need to garner the support of majority to our side if we are to preserve our republic." He continued. "Don't worry about Senator Amidala. She is being...persuaded to our viewpoints. We must turn our suspicions to the anti-war/pro-secessionist groups led by Corellia."

Obi-wan's comm chimed as he received a call.
"Master, we have a new mission. You are going to want to hear this." came the wavering yet excited voice of teenage male.
"My apologies Count, duty calls" Obi-Wan said as he began to leave his seat.

Dooku nodded, "I understand. Our talk was at an end anyway. Please consider what I've said."

Late into the day just before the residents of Kuat's most powerful family are about to turn in for the night a single droid hovers up to the front gate of their estate

"I Believe I am expected" It says projecting the emblem of the Bounty Hunter's Guild.

"Corellia." The word tasted like Ash in Roman's mouth. "Arrogant fools they are if they believe themselves higher then the Republic. I hope they are sorted out soon." But Roman wasn't finished. "Dooku is the main problem here. he is poison getting everybody to turn on a Republic that has saved them numerous times from the Sith and Tyrants alike." "We need an army to prevent such threats from coming and crushing us."

Roman looked the chancellor right in the eye. "Recently, Rothana Heavy Engineering and Kuat Drive Yards. We believe that someone is funding this. Do you know who as we have ... suspicions about this."

"You are. Take a ... seat and lets begin this meeting."

The Droid just hovered there, rather than sitting it projected a copy of the exclusivity contract made between the Guild and Kuat. "I believe you are aware of this correct?" It asked the obvious rhetorical question
