Disney Moves From Behemoth to Colossus With Closing of Fox Deal

Article:
Disney now owns most of Rupert Murdoch's former empire, including the 20th Century Fox movie and television studio, which includes the "X-Men," "Avatar" and "Simpsons" franchises; Blue Sky, the "Ice Age" animation studio that is based in Connecticut; the National Geographic and FX cable networks; most of the streaming service Hulu; and Star, a fast-growing television-service provider in India.

Disney had been a mere behemoth, dominating sports television through ESPN, controlling the global theme park business and running Hollywood's No. 1 movie operation, with studios that include Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm. But the company decided that it needed to bulk up even more as the tech giants aggressively moved into Hollywood. The competition now includes Apple, which is scheduled to unveil its television and movie plans on Monday.

"This is an extraordinary and historic moment for us," Robert A. Iger, Disney's chief executive, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Man, this is one hell of a cyberpunk future. Can't wait til Disney buys the Catholic Church.

All things begin in Disney, and all so end. This one is no different. Disney sprouts within it, it grows, consumes it. Such is its nature. In the end, everything returns to the Disney whence it came!

By this point I think I'm concerned enough about the rate at which Disney is buying massive companies to not be able to joke about it.

Inb4 Disney buys Epic Rap Battles of History trademark from NicePeter and EpicLloyd... for some reason.
Oh, that's not necessary. If you remember correctly, in the battle, Walt says "I own this battle — in fact, I own this whole series".

That's because he did.

The ERBs are produced by Makers Studio, which belongs to the Disney Company.

hmm... so if hypothetically speaking, they were broken up in a future anti-trust suit, could things be arranged so that all the marvel films stay in one company?

The only good thing to come of this is the inevitable cyberpunk dystopia stories featuring Disney as the Big Bad Corporation. Taking down Mickey-Mouse robot guards? Seeing the Disney-media's reaction to the hero's heroing? Having the climax set in Disneyland, as the hero goes hand to hand with cyborg Walt Disney at the peak of Space Mountain? Sign me up!

Sounds like the plot of Kingdom Hearts 4.

There was some quest on here where it was like, a cyberpunk spacefuture mecha PMC story. The one of the first votes was filling out a survey of what our favored corporations were for stuff like entertainments, appliances, military hardware, etc. Had a pretty good gag of Disney showing up in both the entertainment and military hardware sections.

This is actually great news, if you think about it.

Because, get this. Disney owns 20th Century Fox. Disney owns Star Wars. We can finally have it back.

yep super worth the increasing monopolization of every aspect of life under an increasingly small number of unelected corporate officers

If you want to complain about enormous corporations, Disney is like fiftieth down on the list that starts with Viacom.

Viacom might of might not be bigger than Disney, I actually don't know, but Walt Disney Company had earned five times more yearly revenue than Viacom... before their most recent acquisition.
