Most of fiction, quests included, tend to take lots of inspiration from myths and history, so I thought that would be valid talking point since Sorceror King directly references a RL place and we've discussed other RL groups we drew on to make some of the votes here. True, but there are... different variations of edge, I guess? Well, your idea simply sounds like the most popular premise of edge-fiction (Edgiction?) to me. No offence, of course.
That too is true. Eh, you can make any idea, even and edgy sounding one, into a good story if you try hard enough. And you can actually create interesting world and characters. And possibly have a talent.
Blessing of creativity gods definitely wouldn't hurt either.

There is a land in the middle of Pangea, somewhat to the east of Albion and Europa, but not as far as to reach Cathay. This land is known to many traders as Mesopotamia. Rather than being a united kingdom, it is a desert land with a plethora of city-states scattered over it. One of these city-states, one of the most splendorous of them saw turmoil in times of the Month of Magic. Many magical creatures, such as deadly bulls and boars walked the earth and destroyed crops.

I honestly don't know why you found 'Eridu' to be irritating to say. Unless—now that I think about it—you're saying it with English accent, then yeah, I can see how it could be annoying.
It wasn't originally what I wanted, but I think in the end I prefer Gil in Uruk Costume for appearance; that's mostly because I simply don't like bishounens tho.
That and this outfit looks great, methinks.

I have no idea what the best way to say eridu is.
I can say it in the english ways, which are err-ee-doo and ere-ee-doo. I can say it in the japanese way, eh-ri-du. I can say it in the latin way, ay-ree-doo. None of these are pleasant, and when we inevitably try to decline the word into a descriptor of the citizens it will become something horrendous like eriduans, eriduoans, eridii, etc. Uruk is too curt, Eridu is too vowely w/ uncertain emphases. Aleppo has the right amount of pop.
Oh wait, there was a pic? It's nice, though I might want something else as that character a) is blond which is unrealistic (green is worse, I know, but I'm so tired of blond anime chars) b) looks evil. I have no idea who Gil is.
I'm thinking of someone more like the second pic.

I pronounce it Polish way. Which I guess is similar to eh-ri-du but with harder (I think it's the correct word) r than English. Well, it really depends on your native language if the name sounds weird or not. I mean, Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz (something like Gzhegozh Bzhenchyshchykyevich?) is normal to me.
Gil as in Gilgamesh from Fate Series. No surprise he looks evil; while it's arguable if he's actually evil, he definitely is an arsehole. Enkidu in the other plan was also a reference to his Fate version.
This doesn't look bad, maybe I'll try to search for something similar.

Aleppo is a non-semetic name, which is weird with the inspiration and the rest of the names... (Halab is the original Semetic name of the city, and it's pretty close to the modern Hebrew and Arabic names)
