The Great Age of Piracy [One Piece]

"Sure!" He threw another dagger when he saw the ensign that ignored him before going to work while taking cover from the bullets.

"The Anchor!"

I screamed, taking hold of the sails and taking a second to read the wind.

Not too strong, but judging by the way the clouds move and the direction of that smoke...

I crouched and jumped out of the main mast, the sail opening with my weight, low as it was. One of my chain transported me to the second mast and I started to release the sail on that, too.

"Got it!" Ryu screamed back before going and retrieving the anchor. And throwing a few more daggers to the marines.

Via's ears twitched as she heard the gunfire, before slamming herself onto the railing of the ship, ducking down, and firing a shot straight into the bomb. Firing a few flasher shots blindly into the Marines who had opened fire, she nodded to Orphan.

"You two get the ship ready! I'll make sure they're too blinded to bother us!"

When I saw both another bomb AND a barrage of gunfire, I did the only thing I could think to do at such short notice.

Namely, sending my chain up, gripping the sail branch of the main mast and pull myself up, dodging both with this move.

Ryu was quick to jump to cover the moment the barrage started and swiftly took out his daggers before throwing them to blindly at the marines.

Seeing another poison bomb he threw one of his daggers to it before it could get too close and then threw another three to the general direction he saw the bomb coming from, but because ha has to take cover to escape another barrage of bullets, he didn't know wherever his dagger went to the target or not.

Tabun covered his eyes from the flash bangs while simultaneously jumping back as the three daggers landed in his original position. He didn't need to see to expect an attack coming; it's what he would have done against a blinded target. "This is getting us nowhere. We're too far away for either side to land any hits. And they seem to have good coordination too..."

Laurent rose to their feet unsteadily and made their way over to the Lieutenant. This day was an all around failure, and the pirates had gotten acceptably far along in their plan to steal a ship.

They quietly flipped one of the daggers in their hands. Simply tossing them wouldn't cut the ropes, and the pirates had already proven themselves more than capable of deflecting projectiles.

"May I make a suggestion, Lieutenant Cyclo, sir? Is it possible that we may set the sails on fire, or otherwise ruin them to keep or slow the pirates' flight?"

Ah, the Ensign. Laurent, he thought. "Good call, that's our best course of action. Men! Do what you can to dismantle that ship! Don't let them set sail!"

He reached inside his coat and pulled out three smoke bombs that he could hold just well enough to still throw properly with one arm. In his other arm were three explosive bombs. He aimed for the sails this time and tosses the smoke bombs first, followed almost immediately by the explosive bombs making sure his arc wouldn't allow one bomb exploding to trigger the others mid air. If it worked, they'd be preoccupied with hitting the first three smoke bombs, and then wouldn't be able to track the explosive bombs hidden by the smoke.

There are three bombs. No, wait yhere are six?!

Ryu thought as he looked at the bomb coming. He knew that his daggers couldn't take them all so he looked up orphan and asked. "Orphan! Six bombs, think your chain can reach them?!"

"Fuck"

I muttered, speeding back on the main mast and jumping down.

The wind caught in that moment, making the sail full and starting the movement of the brigantine. Two seconds and we would be outside of the marines range. In the meantime, I was falling.

I started rotating on myself, chain extended and creating a circle of metal that gained momentum and speed, until the blades of my chains passed first in the three bomb at the forefront and immediately after in the three behind.

The resulting explosion sent me crashing against the swordsman, making me sore on all my back and legs.

"Bombs. Obviously bombs."

The wind ruffled my hair, like a playful sibling.

Tabun let out a small sigh and shrugged. "Not what I wanted, but not undesirable." He checked around, weighing his options. He couldn't throw THAT far to hit them, guns wouldn't be of much use. The only other option would be to chase after them. The black ship was no match, the smaller ship definitely stood no chance, and the galleon was overkill but it'd take too long to get it moving. Moreover, there's less Marines here than he'd liked, several of which suffering injuries. Though he could order it, they weren't his men to do so. He had enough respect for the Lieutenant Commander to not risk his men with such low odds of success.

"I guess that's it then. Men, you've done well. We've successfully forced the pirates to flee like the dogs they are. Tend to your wounded and return to base." Tabun looked to Laurent, "You as well, Ensign. You kept those three pirates on the run with just yourself and a handful of men. That's impressive all on it's own."

Nay, they hadn't accomplished anything. The false praise soured in the back of Laurent's throat, even as they stretched their smile across their face and inclined their head. The pirates had stolen a ship and made a laughingstock of the Marines with, what, only a few scratches for their trouble? Meanwhile, Laurent had lost their bow and wasted, what, fifteen arrows?

"Thank you sir." Wait. "Lieutenant Cyclo? I engaged in battle with Mad Hunter Vincent, and I don't believe that I saw him on the ship. There may still be on the island."

A crude smile erupted from Tabun's lips.

"The freak with the beak? Seems I missed a lot at the execution..." He turned to the remaining Seaman, "New orders! Those of you that are uninjured, tie down these boats. Plant explosives for good measure. A few of you go to the other docks and give the same order to the marines there. If anyone so much as looks at a boat, they are considered a pirate and are to be eliminated."

He turned back to Laurent. "Truth be told I'd rather just destroy the boats now. But this should make it harder for anyone to escape Grand Rock. Lead me the direction he was last seen. Then we can show the Hunter what it's like to be hunted."

Via finally stood, stretching. "Geez, what a day. You sure we're safe now? Not gonna, I dunno , explode randomly?"

The resulting explosion sent me crashing against the swordsman, making me sore on all my back and legs.

"Oh... Fu-" were the only that Ryu could say before Orphan fell in him.

Via finally stood, stretching. "Geez, what a day. You sure we're safe now? Not gonna, I dunno , explode randomly?"
"Unless this boat have explosives inside, I'm saying not."

I said, still lying on Ryu, catching my breath. mhhh, nice muscles. Not a good mattress, though.

"Yeah, I doubt that the marines expected us to fully escape" Ryu said, still laying on the floor, before groaning "Now, if someone were to stand up instead of laying on my body, I think that I would be okay"

"You don't like me? I'm hurt."

I said, bringing (fake) tears to my eyes, making them big and shiny, looking at him beneath my eyelashes, slowly caressing his chest.

I know, I know. I shouldn't tease my new crewmate, but certain occasion are simply too much fun to do.

"Okay, one: I don't know you, two: I'm pretty sure that I can't breathe very well with you above me." Ryu said his first two points calmly before quickly taking Orphan's hand away from his chest with a shudder.

"And three: please stop carresing my chest"

"Alright!" Via pumped her fist into the air, holstering Rerum Hex. "I got a ship, I got a crew! Heh, this is happening! Go Team... Uh..."

Via's mood collapsed just as quickly as it had built up, and she sunk to her knees. "I forgot to come up with a crew name..."

"Yeah, yeah..."

I got up from my crewmate and stretched, pain in the back or not.

Ryu released a sigh of relief at finally being able to breathe normally before standing up and stretching is back.

"Well, I think that we should first look around the ship to see what do we have" Ryu said while taking a red pearl from his pocket, closing his eyes and whispering "exchange" before opening his now red eyes and putting the now blue pearl back into his pocket.

I watched what Ryu was doing, fascinated by seeing a Devil Fruit in action. Then, when nothing else happened, I frowned a bit.

"That's it?"

"Yes sir."

Laurent turned around and started walking.

As he followed the Ensign, Tabun figured this would be as good a time as any to hear whats been going on. "Ensign Laurent, you were at the execution earlier, yes? I unfortunately missed it due to a..." he had a brief, almost nostalgic look on his face as he recalled rooting out a small band of pirates in the back alleys, "pest control problem. Heh. Anyways, mind filling me in on what transpired?"

"Ehh, we have time for that. More important, the ship?"

"More important?" Via shot up to her feet, crossing her arms. "A pirate crew's name is their identity! Their life! Next you'll be telling me the flag doesn't matter!" She huffed, before reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small box. Opening it up, she set about cleaning her pistol as she sat down. "'Sides, we gotta hang around for a while before heading back onto the Rock."

"That's it?"

"Hmm?" Ryu turned around, curious as to why the guy sounded disappointed before seeing his frown when looking at where he just put his pearl.

".... Ohh, you are talking about about the change?" he said before releasing a sigh. "From what I found, it seems that the fruit that I ate gave me the ability to exchange attributes or characteristics. But since I just recently got this, right now I can only change some basic characteristics and colors"

"'Sides, we gotta hang around for a while before heading back onto the Rock."

"Wait, why are we going back there?" He asked with a frown.

Laurent glanced back, but kept their pace.

"Yes sir. Pirates Orphan, Via Treace, Vincent Finck, and 'Mad Hunter' Vincent all made appearances at the square. Orphan made several comments about the execution, and I was given the order to shoot them. The civilians panicked and deserted the square as the pirates engaged with the marines. The Lieutenant Commander engaged with Treace as I shot Finck. I was then ambushed by 'Mad Hunter' Vincent and my bow was stolen when he forced me out of my position. Treace then declared their intent to flee, asking Orphan and Finck to follow. The Lieutenant Commander gave orders to fall back and engaged pirates Orphan and Finck. Orphan then moved with intent to free the prisoner. I do not know the status of the prisoner, at that point I had given chase as Treace fled the square, sir."

"Uh, duh. Do we have a Log Pose? Or food? Or water? Or anything?" She waved her hand around. "We're safe, but we're a tad undersupplied, lost, and I don't wanna spend another three days starving half to death."

Ryu thought about it before face palming.

"Yeah, that's true." He said before looking around and groaning when he remembered something else. "Also I think that between all this experience I forgot my backpack in my boat."
