The Grand Solar Rush - Asteroid colony management quest

Things seem to be heating up quickly. Let's just slide under the radar for now. Would the anonymity be worth the possible intentional reprisal we'd attract by basically letting these pirates free? Especially when they have given us nothing at all?

And let's not kid ourselves into thinking that these pirates will be prosecuted. They have practical space military experience. With the rising military tension, no nation will waste these veterans.

On our actions, I kinda wanna do aerogel clothes, but we did tell Miss Weissmeier that we'd help her with her problems.

you mean armor? There's no mention of clothes anywhere. And I think we will need the boost to the reactors first before tackling the nanites.
--[ ] Aerogel armorThose ceramics in your light power armor you wanted to upgrade? Well, this could be it. The gel doesn't shatter on impact like normal silicates do, it's probably possible to make it bendy by doping it with normal fibers, it's not air-permeable and can totally withstand the pressures. And it's lighter than any other armor, or clothing for that matter, so you might even be able to sell it to planetary markets. DC 60
Yep, armor. But the initial take was that this could give us void capable suits that are much sleeker. I'm imagining basically a slightly bigger full body driving suit.

Though yeah, I definitely understand keeping it underwraps for now. Not only do we not (yet) want the attention, we also have other more immediate issues to deal with.

Yeah, though once the generator's in place I want to develop tourism. We have a wonder, the money will be nice and openly attacking tourist attractions gets a lot of negative press very quickly.

I believe we should keep them ourselves, set the precedent of the frontier taking care of itself without the superpowers though this isn't a hill I'd die on.
For diplomacy we might as well strike while the iron is hot and contact the resort and leave Primdust for next turn, hopefully they'll be finished with their project by then. Or we'll do medical concessions next turn and leave the research for another year.
For security we should finish drones, I think we should leave the extra grant and, hopefully, with Primdust's new experitse and our aerogel, design our own ship.
For engineering I say Fuel refineries to have to something to sell the freighters (I'm assuming they still aren't close to being full) and transportation to make it safer to walk around our colony, and it's something we ought to do eventually.
In internal affairs I think we should continue investigating our neighbours and Ironbond was a bully during the conference and there is the whole plot with them and our spymaster.
For research we really need oncology ward, last turn showed that our people are starting to get cancer.

If people really believe it's better to leave to EU...

Tourist places also tend to be a nightmare for any security measures.

I'd only really push for tourism if we have much better infrastructure, especially considering how our office is inside (well, above) the park which will be one of the areas rife with tourists.

Tourists are a distant second to us plucking the low hanging lifestyle improvements available as well.

I think security is much more simple in space where you have very limited points of access and can very easily lock people out of areas they don't need to be in. The biggest issue is digital security but that's always going to be a problem the moment we do global wi-fi.

The only issue we would have to adress is things like petty thievery and drunks, but that's easily solved.

Aren't those options kind of energy hungry? We are already at 0 so we should be carefull with increasing comsuption.

We still have 1 in reserve and the small passive from solar panels so we still should be fine. Regardless we need build that power plant next turn.

edit: QM, will the nuclear power plant's DC go down once Primdust isn't busy or will it remain like that?

Not sure how to vote. That said, I think we should definitely finish looking into our remaining senior staff. Though I can accept not doing it this turn. Having said that, what was required for us to unlocked our second action in the various categories again? I know that it's something we've had for a long time, but was the AI research it and now we're just hoping that the Applied Intelligence rolls over the DC giving us it? Or is it another action that we've not done yet?

Also, I really, really, want to take a crack at aerogel production ASAP. Because if/when we succeed at that, we either guarantee that we're sitting on a very valuable production not available anywhere else as far as is known. Or we make it so that even if someone else finds a deposit, or snags some samples from us, we've got the legal right to control production of it. Which worst case means a bigger need for security and a lot of money. Best case is a ridiculous amount of money and needing to hire a lot of lawyers to ensure no one tries to get past our patent.

I'm quite sure that we gotta do their loyalty quest.

I reformatted your plan to make it tallyable.

[X] Plan: Sports and prepping for reactor

As things stand I think it is the more optimal choice, mostly for the extra transport and emergency generators. That said I'm not sold on contacting the minister with our diplo slot. I wonder if the joint research or the resort contact might not be more productive in this case. The Tennis seems like it can be put off till we have more diplo actions.

If you are going for Blue Marble Justice you should smooth over with EU, there should be some synergy there.

I think we should focus on curing our chief scientest.
The Silver nanites required DC is high, so I'm not expecting a breakthrough, but it should lessen the DC for next turn.

As a reminder, the School Visit personal action is referring to this:
"It's no problem… That is to say, I did come here with a reason," she takes a breath, and you have a moment to reflect on the fact that you really haven't been in a social situation where you're not negotiating or commanding for years at least, your council excluded. "We thought it would be a good exercise for the students to roleplay successful leaders, corporate executives or statesmen. It evolved from a single day lesson to a project for the whole semester to something of a school tradition by this point, but the three kids – gosh, teens now – who have been leading the project since the start are graduating soon."

She pulls out a tablet and you accept it, smothering the instinct to hook it to the wall screen.

"The students have compiled a list of questions they haven't come to a consensus about. We asked them to keep it brief, but you know how it is. Not a lot around here to occupy their time with, so they might have gone a bit overboard. We've told them time and again that you're far too busy for schoolyard debates, but I did promise them that since they don't get a trip, I'd at least ask. If you could maybe weigh in on one or two of those points, it'd mean the world to them, sir."

[X] Plan: Nanites

I don't think we can afford to dig deeper into the pirates given that DC. This does mean we'll be dealing more piracy, but it will also gives us time to build our martial marital capacity.

Plan Nanites covers the most pressing issues for the colony and helps complete character side quests.

"Consider it done, but is there anything else? We can easily pivot back to the nanite research if it'd help," you offer.

"Have I ever told you just how much I appreciate your practical nature?" she even manages a smile, "But no, at least not right this second, I'll need to consolidate some data and there's a few other similar experiments being run back on Mars that might shed light on the issues. Also, I've sent my sister my bio scans, and no offence, but the Weissmeier Foundation has access to better supercomputers than we do. It'll be better to have something to take my mind off things while those crunch the simulations. Plus, I'm still keeping an eye out for other research that might help, and going through that also takes me some time."
How about we listen her regarding nanites and leave it for later?

I'd really like the solar wind capture research project. Water is currently the only thing we have to import. If we can capture solar wind, we can combine it with our ridiculous oxygen surplus and not need to do that anymore. Real independence.
