The Festival Of Blood (IC Thread)

Howl nod decisively. "Angel, drop wing and victory at the nearest. You two can circuit and bomb the rest from the sky. I'll check out the fire in the south, then reinforce Wing and Victory."

Howl turn, eyes fixing on her new target, before glancing back. "Try not to die."

And then she's gone.

Victoria listens to the exchange while trying her best not to slip. Her hands are getting a little sweaty by now. With Howl vanishing about as soon as she appeared, she can't help but huff.

"Bossy, that one. But I don't mind," she chirps, trying to catch Blood Wing's eyes. "You up for some jolly cooperation?"

"We can't help each other if we split up. A-and that fire is getting closer." She calls out uneasily, but she still begins to sink down to the treetops.

After Blood Wing takes Angel's hand, the flier and her cargo ascend above the tree line, the sun shining on their faces once more. As the group looks around to get their bearings, they realize the battle between metal and chitin has escalated.

Artillery bugs launch foul acid into the bot lines before those lines are bowled over by chargers. Robots with rocket launchers and LMGs eviscerate the chargers but are then buried under tides of chitin and screeching that is turned to mulch by massed mortar rounds. Large hulking machines blast and crush and melt every insect nearby, before invisible claws rake critical systems as the machines fall, before they are torn apart by raging sawblades. Conquered crewing bipedal gun platforms advance into the horde as they are detonated by exploding orange bugs. Hive Titans creep towards the forest, implacable, unstoppable, unless every nearby oil guzzling hunk of metal focuses on bringing it down, before even more pests crawl out of the sands to replenish the swarm.

Whenever the Conquered lines are about to break, one shoots off a burning red flare into the sky, and a huge black aircraft lifted by four massive engines lifts off from the factory to drop reinforcements at the beleaguered point.

However, you notice that not every dropship lifts off from the center of the forest. Many come from other points within it, with these aircraft only carrying a single class of Conquered; Light, Medium, or Heavy. The mortars come from one specific spot as well.

The clown butts in with a condescending tone. "Ah, the contenders have seen the shape of theeeir struggle now! Will our contenders overcome the odds, or join the metal? We shall see, my lovely bloodthirsty beauties!" It continues in a lower tone, almost conspiratorial, "Oh, I see it slipped my mind to mention the other factories. Unfortunately, the contenders do not need to destroy them to be victorious", the clown makes a 'what can you do motion', "But the sub-factories do specialize, so perhaps leaving them alone is a terrible decision...". The clown perks up, and throws his hands out wide with a gay afbooming laugh. "The superheavy Conquered come online in just a few minutes! Our beloved contenders may not survive then! Fuhuhuhu!"

Also the south edge of the forest is on fire.

Death Flame groans in response, then grabs Bequeath by the shoulder and pulls herself up. Then she points her hand towards the forest, and all Bequeath can see is plasma, all she can hear is a faint roar, and all she can feel is heat.

(Vapor Wave: 3,000 Base Damage, +1025 dice, +1500 RAGE = 5,525 Total Damage
Forest: No)

As she tries to rid her ears of the ringing and her mouth of the taste of ionized air, Death Flame grabs her by the chin, and nose to nose, stares deep into her eyes.

"I. Am. Going to kill. Every. Goddamn. Thing in that forest."

With that, Death Flame holds Bequeath in an iron grip, leaning on her for support as she moves into the forest, casting her spell whenever the ground starts to become green.

Bequeath accepts her contradictory existence as both cargo and crutch with as much grace as she can, blinking spots from her eyes with each explosion that clears their way.

Things... seem to be going well? She hasn't really needed to worry about anything since she found Death Flame. Well, aside from Death Flame herself. Kinda just dragged along for company, like a weighted companion cube.

...Which got thrown into an incinerator. Bad example.

...Metal? Factories? "I think whoever else is here might be running into a lot of weird stuff." Bequeath glances up and down Death Flame's condition. Nothing has really stood up to the pyromaniac's flames so far, but defensively...

The crowns wink out, and appear once again.
The wall of flame at the edge of Death Flame's advance suddenly distorts, stabbing out to spear into the ground, before snapping back just as quickly as the vacuum trail collapses. Howl rises from her crouch and eyes the other two magical girls. "Ah, stragglers. Good, I have other things to kill."

At the snap appearance, Bequeath's body moves before her mind. With a sharp turn, she attempts to interpose herself between Death Flame and the new arrival, Veil flaring out to increase coverage.

Unfortunately, Death Flame's grip is unyielding, so she only manages a half turn before jerking to a stop and stumbling in place.

Regaining her balance, she finally examines what is apparently another magical girl. Cold eyes, messy white hair, and an outfit that looks like Freddy Krueger became the White Dino Power Ranger.

"Ah, stragglers. Good, I have other things to kill."

Bequeath grimaces at the curt remarks. Another crazy. Fantastic.

Death Flame points her sword at the new arrival, until Bequeath attempts to interpose herself between them. Unnoticed to the other girl, Death Flame's eyes widen just a fraction as her sword tilts down, before she brings it back up and stands herself up without Bequeath, offhand flaring with plasma.

"Oi. The fuck's that supposed to mean. You looking for a fight or something? Because I won't lose."

Howl gives the cliche fiery redhead a flat look. "No. Other things, that are not you. Obviously." The implied 'idiot' remains unspoken yet clearly audible.

Howl's gaze flickers briefly to the crowns above the pair's heads, then to the one who stepped in front upon her arrival.

"Flower girl. You seem like the responsible one here. Would either of you survive sudden, arbitrarily high acceleration?"

"No. Other things, that are not you. Obviously."

Bequeath gets only a moment of relief at the newcomer's lack of hostility, before immediately cringing at the tone directed at Death Flame.

"Flower girl. You seem like the responsible one here. Would either of you survive sudden, arbitrarily high acceleration?"

Though startled at being addressed directly, Bequeath leaps at the chance to push the conversation along and avoid escalation, despite the seeming non sequitur of the question. "I... probably could, but I just met Death Flame. I'm not sure." Her eyes flicker briefly to said catgirl's legs, recalling the after-effects of the landmine. It seems less likely. "Why? What do you mean?"

Death Flame growls, canceling her spell and wrapping that arm around Bequeath and pulling the poor girl to her side. "What the fuck you trying to do here? You ain't taking her anywhere. You trying to get her killed or something!?"

Death Flame looks at Bequeath, a serious expression carved into her face, and murmurs into her ear, "I know I'm hypocritical for saying this but don't just go with whatever girl offers you a ride, got it?".

Howl lets out a pleased noise at finally getting some good news.

"I am very fast. I am immune to this, everything else not so much. Carrying passengers is hard when most people's insides turn into outsides on takeoff."

Howl eyes Death Flame for a moment, before letting out a huff. "Checking so she doesn't. Clingy much? Anyway-" She turns and points, slightly to the left of the ashy clearing's trajectory. "Keep heading that way, you'll find the main target. Watch out for landmines. I have to go murder a tank factory now. Back in a bit."

Then she's gone, a trail of ash spiraling upward in her wake.

As Angel approaches the mysterious facility with her cargo, you can see the bots moving across the ground like ants, patrolling the facility and firing upon any of the flying bugs that get too close. Machine gun nests face outward into the forest, ominous red lights blinking in the darkness of the forest. A hill of metal and oil greets you, the facility whirring and creaking as it operates to an unknown purpose. A chanting fills the air in a language you cannot understand, coming from every automaton in sight. Walkers, light infantry, robots carrying shields, and robots covered in missiles fill the unused space around the facility.
An emplacement in the far corner, resembling a giant rotary cannon, begins to turn as Angel cross some unseen threshold, taking aim at the group. It turns slowly, not yet spinning up.

Wing shrugs, "she can be blunt, but she knows what she's doing. Saved our last group once or twice, or at least tried." She shakes away the thought of what might have befallen the rest of her former team. Part of her hopes Endless Winter is here, the rest hopes the quiet girl made it home.

"anyway, yes, Cooperation, I think I can manage that."

"Get your thoughts in order then sister!" Angel dives as close as she can to the trees and angles to try and put part of the base between the cannon and herself.

"I will get you as close as I can, say your prayers and prepare to drop!"

Victoria throws Wing a big smile and says no more. She does not pray, though. Not everyone is as faithful as Angel.

She slowly looses her grip around the other girl as they approach, ready to drop at any moment. Victoria's gaze alternates between the cannon and the ground. Either she finds a good landing spot, or she can use her power to get up close and personal with the big gun.

Imaginary shifts her aim towards the gun turning their way, readying her Derivative Defenses to deflect as many projectiles as possible. If they breach the i Flare shell, the amount of mana released might well also destroy some incoming projectiles as well.
i Flare Laser: Holding at 6 charges.

Bequeath is taking the opportunity to subtly stretch out her newly freed arm when she is suddenly tugged aside again, this time by the waist.

"What the fuck you trying to do here? You ain't taking her anywhere. You trying to get her killed or something!?"
"I know I'm hypocritical for saying this but don't just go with whatever girl offers you a ride, got it?"

Bewildered by Death Flame's sudden apparent concern, it takes a moment for Bequeath to respond. "Oh... kay?" It was surprisingly sensible advice? She was pretty sure her mom had something similar in the past. Not that it had—or would—help her much, having already been double kidnapped.

"Checking so she doesn't. Clingy much? Anyway-"
"Keep heading that way, you'll find the main target. Watch out for landmines. I have to go murder a tank factory now. Back in a bit."

"Ah—" And the girl was gone, just as suddenly as she appeared. At least Bequeath didn't get triple kidnapped. Looking to Death Flame, who was further into her personal space than ever before, she asks the salient question. "Are we following her directions?"

Angel dives behind the factory, trying to evade the Anti-Air Tower, but not soon enough. The Tower opens fire, a hail of ruby bolts racing to smite Angel down from the heavens.

But Imaginary Perfect counters with the shell of her magic, perfectly placed for the eruption of i to scatter and disperse the bolts, stopping the barrage entirely. Unfortunately, this means Imaginary cannot stop the many missiles and lasers starting to be fired at Angel from around the facility, but Angel is nimble enough to dodge all of the projectiles before they hit. She rises back up behind the base, away from the tower's sight, as she continues dodging the various attacks thrown her way by the Conquered.

Then she's gone, a trail of ash spiraling upward in her wake.
Blood Wing and Omen jump off as Angel nears the ground, light off lining the nearby automatons in the landing zone. As she rises in the air again, the duo take stock of their landing zone. Army of angry robots, check. Machine Gun Turrets whirring as they lock onto the two intruders, check. Gas guzzling, smoke belching metal superstructure, check. Big anti air gun lining up a shot to hit Angel again, check. The other massive cannon starting to turn towards them, checkohshit. Omen and Wing duck behind a nearby building as the actual cannon fires a laser beam into the building, slagging half of it and leaving the rest leaning at a dangerous angle.

The rest of the robots, mainly medium weights, move to surround the pair huddling in cover.

Until Howl slams into the biggest robot and tears it to shreds, along with the five other robots next to it.

Death Flame glares in the direction of the disappearing feline, before turning to Bequeath. "We are going to go blow up some robots of course. Come on, we don't need that bitchy cunt to win this. I bet she dies to the first fucking insect she sees."

Death Flame cut from whatever she says next by the roar of jet engines as two dropships offload a load of light bots lead by two medium weights with shields.

"Fucking seriously. Fine. Come on pretty, lets scrap these fuckers." With that, Death Flame readies her spell.

Angel continues flying and banks hard to to move toward the next factory.

"Don't worry Imaginary, our sisters can take that trash. Just focus on charging your spell and I'll keep you safe." Angel's scythe appears in her free hand as she makes her announcement.

Victoria's mental quips cease as she gets her head in the game. Getting almost vaporised by a super-laser does that to a girl.

After quickly scrambling into cover, senses already sharpening to their limit with the surging adrenaline, she throws a look at Wing.

"I'll go after the big guns, you take the small-" screech -"fry," she says while peeking out of cover for a moment. "And help Howl. Then we take down the factory. Sound good?"

"I'll go after the big guns, you take the small-" screech -"fry," she says while peeking out of cover for a moment. "And help Howl. Then we take down the factory. Sound good?"
Wing looks over to the site of Howl's ongoing rampage. "Honestly? At this point, the best thing either of us can do is stay out of blending range, she'll be fine. Small fry though?" she turns to the nearest pod of robot soldiers, slashing her arms. "Small fry I can do."

"Cool. Good luck."

Victoria peeks out of cover one more time. Her expression is now one of intense focus. Once a number of enemies are distracted, she takes off running toward the anti-air gun. Using whatever cover she can find on the way to stay out of sight and out of mind, Victoria still keeps an eye on her surroundings; if something turns to shoot at her, she will be ready to avoid it.

Imaginary begins creating a new shell, adjusted slightly in structure to account for the laser barrage she had just dissipated, and aims it towards the factory Angel is turning them towards. Layers of equations form, some discarded as they are provded redundant, most settling in as her comparatively small depiction of the imaginary number plane's unfolds from her Inverse Matrix. She begins filling the layers, imaginary numbers coalescing and occupying the space, still with some room to spare, focusing on her spell with all but enough attention to listen to Angel.

In other circumstances, Bequeath would think that the hover ships were an awe-inspiring sight, something straight out of a sci-fi movie. As things stand though, she lets out a grunt of weary acceptance. This was about in line with how today had gone so far.

Dredging up a little more 'it is what it is' from within, she braces herself for conflict.

Omen blitzes out from behind the wreck, sprinting to the anti-air emplacement. Whenever a robot aims at her, she simply pivots towards the attacker and moves at an impossible speed into their personal space. Omen dodges to the side to bleed off her momentum, keeping her pace to the tower. Once more she is targeted, and once more she runs at speeds unquantifiable. Once, twice, three times and counting she maneuvers her way across the facility grounds, barreling through the occasional unlucky robot between Omen and her attacker. Laser fire is danced around, rockets are gracefully sidestepped as they detonate in the middle of another group of automatons. All comers to test Omen's skill with her blade are ignored, perpetually attempting to reach what is above them. The cannon chooses her as its target, constantly turning around, its servos unable to catch up to her rapid movement. After her perfect dash, Omen stands before the anti-air cannon, ready to cut it apart.

Distracted by Omen's speed blitzing, the Conquered do not see Wing until it is too late to stop her.

The fodder open fire in a volley first and Bequeath yelps and closes her eyes as she casts her spell, the bolts flickering out against a flash of light. The automatons with LMGs gather their bearings by then, and Bequeath turns aside as much fire as she can with her veil, but its not enough as three crowns shatter from the onslaught. Even then, she has no time to breathe, as robots with laser swords are upon her, hacking and slashing as the last crowns shatter and flesh sizzles and parts and scarlet paints the ashen soil. The big bot throughs its thoughts into the ring, cutting down one of its own to get to Bequeath, but that absorbs enough fire that Bequeath only takes glancing hits from the Devastator.

Death Flame whips her head around and snarls, and ugly, primal sound as she screams. "LEAVE HER THE FUCK ALONE!"
