It has been 1008 years since the banishing of Nightmare Moon, and 8 years since her return. Though Princess Luna tried mightily to contain her alter ego in the time since, the pressures of rule would ultimately prove too much to bear. Nightmare Moon is back, and a millennia of peace in Equestria has been shattered. Across the once-united kingdom, countless breakaways of all sorts, from the Confederation centered in Appaloosa to the Vanhoover Commune in the far northwest, have taken the opportunity to rise up against the Harmonic rule of Princess Celestia. Meanwhile, the Lunar Empire of Nightmare Moon has assembled a vast army in it's goal to establish the rule of night over all of Equestria.
To the North, Equestria's greatest ally, the Crystal Empire, is paralyzed by conflict and unable to help the realm in its' hour of need. The return of the wicked King Sombra from his imprisonment in Tartarus has engulfed the Empire in civil war over possession of the powerful magical artifact known as the Crystal Heart, with which Sombra could make his darkest dreams into reality.
The two states that would ordinarily be set to pounce on the weakened Equestrians find themselves in similarly weak positions. To the east, the nation of Stalliongrad finds itself in the midst of serious famine and economic paralysis as rapid industrialization and collectivization strains the fabric of the country to it's breaking point.
To the northwest, the Changeling Lands, which were stewing in bitterness since their defeat in the invasion of Equestria six years prior, had been building up and preparing for another invasion to crush Princess Celestia and secure complete dominance over the continent of Equus. However, not desiring another war, a group of Harmonists under the leadership of a changeling named Thorax rose up in revolution against Queen Chrysalis.
In the far west, the Kingdom of Olenia, ordinarily an ally of Equestria, has been quiet. King Johan I has seized the throne in a coup some years prior, banishing the princess and her supporters, who had taken refuge in Equestria. His tentative rule, which was already seen as illegitimate by most, was hurt severely by Celestia's support for Princess Velvet, and so he elected to sit the conflict out at it's offset.
Meanwhile, in the north, the princes of Yakyakistan, Rutherford and Bradford, are on the edge of war over control of the Kingdom. Bradford and his supporters were rallying against Rutherford's recent opening of the country up to trade and international relations, and while Rutherford, the controller of the larger portion of the country, desired peace, the reactionary Jaki-Clan under his brother has been preparing for a more violent solution to the conflict.
On the northeastern edge of the continent, the still somewhat freshly independent Republic of Nova Griffonia struggles to re-orient itself in the wake of the economic collapse caused by the destruction of the Griffonian Empire. Though it has largely recovered from the disaster, political turmoil has completely engulfed the nation, which is only held together by the firm grip of Governor Teafeather. The Griffon Frontier, nominally part of Nova Griffonia but functionally a near-anarchic region under the tentative control of Governor Muck, finds itself in a never-ending conflict with the powerful bandit clans and communist revolutionaries that call the province home.
In the far north, the isolated and backwards Kingdom of Pingland and Polar Bear Communities fiercely cling on to their independence, even in the wake of the rapidly industrializing, increasingly powerful threats on their borders. In the far south, off the coast of Southern Equus, lay the United Dragon Isles, a similarly isolated and hostile nation under the reign of Dragon Lord Ember.
Equus is undergoing the greatest crisis in it's history. War, chaos, and collapse engulf the once-peaceful continent as all nations, whether pony, griffon, deer, changeling or otherwise, struggle to survive. Through this crisis, will harmony return, stronger than ever? Will the ambitions of powerful conquerors and despots be realized? Will socialism sweep through Equus and break the chains of the proletariat once and for all? It remains undecided, and in times of chaos, anything is possible.
This is a relatively small game, with only 25 total playable factions across a single continent roughly the size of Europe, making even the small, isolated ones capable of tipping the balance in the conflicts across Equus. Updates will be fairly short and come quickly, to keep a good pace. If a fast-paced, chaotic game with near-constant fighting in a world that blends magic and technology appeals to you, this one's for you.
