[X] Okay, but make it fast.

Should we let May know?

[X] The factory was the best place to get to them. Arachne field trip this weekend?

WOO! Field trip! Field trip!

I went back and read the chapter where Liv interfaced with JARVIS before, and she hung around a lot longer than I had originally thought. Plus it was mentioned that she had a good mental map of it now. If we time it well, and make sure she has a good alibi, I think this might be doable. Given the potential gains, I think it's probably worth the risk.

[X] Best to go straight through the JARVIS computer.
[X] Okay, but make it fast.

[x] Sorry, busy.

I'm curious what he has to say, but I don't trust him not to just like stab Liv or something... Maybe he could just text her or something?

[X] Okay, but make it fast.
[X] They'd be most easily accessed while being transported. Time to find out when and where.

[X] Okay, but make it fast.

I have two questions about the bot work: first, how publicly accessible is info about the transport? Like, if only Stark employees would know when those convoys move, that would be a pretty big red flag, I'd think.

Second question: do we have an idea how quickly these things will be going out into service? 'cause if they're only gonna be in the NYC Stark centre for a tacky paint job and finishing touches, the factory seems a good idea. But the longer they sit around before going out, the higher the odds of somebody catching a "fix" previously installed. So doing the "fix" in NYC, closer to the issue date, might be smarter.

Edit: you know who probably has some good ideas about how to move about over long distance with minimal metadata footprints? Nat and Clint.

'Apologetic, wincing a little' sounds like the kinda state of mind I'd actually prefer to talk to old Ben in if we have to at all. Sure.

Yeah.

There's a decent chance that this conversation will be super stressful and we'll find out that Ben is an awful person. But... I just can't ignore the possibility that maybe May has some trauma or issue that we need to be sensitive to.

[X] Best to go straight through the JARVIS computer.
This is probably a stupid plan, but I really want to learn more about this universe's JARVIS.

So on the one hand, I'm really tempted to go with the transport. On the other hand, I'd really rather just make sure it got done, and if we put in the change at the source it will get carried over into any future runs of the robots.

Checking In
Urgh. You didn't really want to talk to Ben, especially not now, but...

You sent him a quick reply back, then glanced out your window. Outside, cars rolled by on the street, and there was the distant noise of the highway carrying over the city. That'd probably be the time to hit the bots, while they were being moved and security was minimized. Hell, there might not even be a driver.

---

You met Ben at his locker. He was a well-built young man, brown hair and a strong jaw. You used to have a lot of complicated resentment and jealousy towards him, not just for dating the girl you'd been crushing on since day one of high school, but because he embodied this easy masculinity that you couldn't fake, back when that was a thing you were trying to do. But for some reason, in this interaction, he felt so very small, and you felt so very big.

You reflected on that a moment. Part of it was stance, yes, he was almost cringing, clearly uncomfortable, perhaps even a little intimidated. You were frustrated that you were here talking to him instead of with your girlfriend. You wondered how much of it was also the knowledge that, despite your respective builds, you were far stronger than him. And considering the summer May was supposed to have had, from what Felica said... that difference may well be meaningful.

"Don't fight your girlfriend's ex. For one thing, it's a stupid masculine impulse you should be over. For another, she's not going to appreciate it." Athena whispered in your ear.

You weren't going to fight your girlfriend's ex. For one thing, it wouldn't be a fight, but... also that other stuff. You weren't going to let your ego get in the way that much.

You also realized, as you got closer, that you were actually taller than him. An inch taller, at least. You'd always imagined he'd have to be taller than you. You'd never gotten close enough to see it wasn't the case.

"What do you want, Reilly?" you asked, a bit short.

"I... I just wanted to know how May was doing." he said, hands in his pockets, wincing with each word. "I... feel real shit and I just..."

The fuck? Hell no, you weren't going to be some kind of channel for Ben to wiggle back into May's life.

"Cool. Bye." you said, turning on your heel. You felt his hand on your shoulder and it took considerable willpower not to turn around swinging. "Don't touch me."

"I-, come on, please, I just wanna know if she's okay." he said, still touching you. Very slowly, very restrained, you grabbed his wrist with your good hand and pulled it away, holding tight. The look of terror in his eyes as he realized how easily you were overpowering him was delightful.

"What did you do to her, Reilly?" you asked.

"I didn't do anything, I just want... come on, man!" he protested.

"Don't call me that. What did you do." you repeated. You were ready for the absolute worst answer.

"Let go of him, Liv."

You released his arm and he pressed himself against his locker, looking haunted. A few people were glancing your way, and they stopped the moment you looked at them.

"Nothing, we had a stupid... I was an idiot. I was a huge idiot." he muttered. "I made a mistake."

"... okay I'm not liking any of these words but please don't kill him." Athena said.

"Elaborate."

"I don't know! I seriously actually don't! Everything was nice and good and then she just flipped out, said I didn't love her, said I betrayed her... I don't know what the hell. I thought she like, hit her head or something. I just want to make sure she's okay. That she hasn't done it to you, too." he explained, babbling out the words in the rapid-fire flood. "I just... be careful. You've been thought a lot, I don't want you getting hurt."

Whoa what.

"... Okay. Thanks Ben." you said numbly.

Hmm, he could be starting shit, but on one had, this is good guy Ben, on another he's still a teen, so he could easily be an ass. Then again, something b´might have actually happened and we need to at least bring up the fact that Ben tried to warn us of something. Choices choices.

Are there any heroes with memory manipulation magic and gimmicks around?

Because that seems like a possible scenario.

It would hardly be the first time a girl with legitimate grievances got called crazy by her ex. We can reevaluate if more information surfaces.

Okay. I am bad at subtext. I can't tell if Ben was trying to worm his way into May's life or if Liv is overreacting (with good reason, given the weird vibes we've gotten of Ben).

I don't know! I seriously actually don't! Everything was nice and good and then she just flipped out, said I didn't love her, said I betrayed her.
Huh. Well, that's interesting. I assumed Ben had just been a shitty boyfriend, but now I'm not so sure. Call it a 80% chance of mundane asshole-ry and a 20% chance of... memory alteration? Possession? Some kind of supernatural manipulation? Ooh, maybe May is from another timeline where Ben did something awful.

She is Peter Parker's daughter. In some universes, his daughter has some powers too. Maybe she and Liv could be a power couple? (Or toss in Black Cat and make it a power thruple)

Edit: Oh, shit. Our classmate is Mysterio. Some illusions would really explain a lot.

-[X] Maybe ask Felicia what she knows

Although I must admit I am a little curious but seems like something she can bring up if/when she wants to.
