"Absolutely Not"
Another article of clothing was thrown into the pile of an ever-increasing mound of clothes.
They suggested a pink frilly dress, PINK, Taylor wanted to be heroic and iconic not a bloody children's tea party doll.
"Okay, we'll tick off the fairy themes" Glenn says as he runs his pen across his notepad.
So far in the last ten minutes or so, they've been going through clothing, themes, and ideas and none have even remotely filled Taylor with anything but disappointment.
Princess styles, Barbie Esq models, and even a Japanese sailor uniform have all been thrown into the pile of rejects.
"Look, I just want a suit that's both practical and iconic" Glenn just looked at her with an unamused look.
"That's all you kids want these days, I read your file and I know you have power-related armor so we didn't need to go with any knightly themes, the guns don't give the best impression to some girls even more so the regular American parent, but boys especially teen boys will like it, but to put it all together.." he trailed off as he both sighed and scratched his chin in trying to figure out a good costume for Taylor.
"We could go straight to the aquatic choices sir," one of the attendees said to Glenn who was handed over a binder with different pictures of swimsuits and naval uniforms.
Flipping through them Glenn nodded to some while taking out some that looked too risqué.
After some shuffling, he took three pages before giving them to Taylor.
"How about a combination of these three." He said, Taylor took the three pages and placed them down on a white folding table which was draped over with more colorful clothing.
One photo had a one-piece wetsuit with a diving tank and mask along with flippers and a sash bag that held a red and white medical cross on it.
The second had a figure covered by a large near oversized overcoat that took inspiration from a white captain cloak along with a traditional navy uniform with stars and stripes.
The last was a Lifeguard or even a Surf Lifesaving outfit with short swimmers and a cap, the image also contained a foam floater and flippers on the feet.
Taylor gave back the third image, but the first and second seemed to give Taylor a feeling, it wasn't something she understood but it was a kind of feeling of when something just clicked and everything else would fall into place.
"This coat seems good along with the naval-like symbols plus the shoes, as for the wetsuit I'd like it to look not too bulky, I don't want to be restricted on my movement," Taylor said what she wanted to say, Mr Chambers had a small smile as he nodded along to what Taylor wanted.
"And we have a winner, right we'll get this sorted for the Tailors, we should have something available two days before your debut" With that all sorted the PR team started to clean up and place all the clothing they brought with them into several boxes which they began carting out of the room with the help of some PRT troopers.
"Well, thank you for your time Washington, I'll be sure to inform the Director of what we've concluded with, and I will see you in a couple of days alright," Glenn says as he waved goodbye to Taylor who returned the gesture.
Once they were gone Taylor let out a tired breath before making her way to the lobby where her Dad was at, but before that, she made sure to change into her civilian wear and stow away her bandana mouth mask.
Once that was done she met up with Danny who gave a wave and a hug before they began heading out to the truck.
"So how did it go" Her Father asked as they opened the doors of the building and walked out onto the streets.
"It was exhausting and it wasn't even for that long, they wanted me to dress up as a pink princess" Danny snorted as he looked far too amused with the idea of his little girl dressed in what said.
"Well, you'll always be my princess little owl" he smirked as Taylor looked away.
"Stooop" Taylor moaned and then pouted when her father just laughed at her.
Both father and daughter chattered a bit more as they got in Danny's truck and headed home. It was a very positive thing for them to be doing, as usually, both of them wouldn't even be talking at length. If Taylor didn't trigger, or perhaps in another universe where she did but her father never found out, it would have been the same old awkward silence between the two.
But in this universe, Taylor's Father found out about his daughter's troubles, and with the help of both PRT and Protectorate, they managed to gain justice, not only that, it forced the duo to talk about their grievances and finally heal from the shadow of Annette Hebert's passing.
Despite the trauma being forced out into the open and much crying it ultimately allowed the remaining family members to feel as though a massive weight had been lifted off of their shoulders.
Now after two years, father and daughter could talk to one another without the grief and torment, they could now look towards the future and not just go through the motions as it were.
But that's just the thing though.
Even though the Hebert's now had a near-positive future ahead of them, even though there was still much uncertainty and fear to be had, they knew that they could in a small but reassuring way, face it with confidence.
All they need now is a test, to see how that confidence stacks up to what living in Brockton Bay is really all about.
"Uh, dad what's happening over there" At an intersection whilst they were stopped at a red light, Taylor pointed towards the front of them as she saw objects of sorts flying up in the air.
Both squinted their eyes to see if they could make it out.
What they could tell was that it was getting closer as more objects were either flung to the side or up above.
A horrible dread engulfed both of them as they quickly realized that those objects were bits and pieces of wrecked cars being ruthlessly tossed aside as if a massive thing was plowing them aside.
As the front cars on the opposite side of the road were now brutally thrown aside or crushed under some invisible weight, Danny didn't have the time nor reaction to move the truck they were in safety to the side as whatever had hit the cars in front had now hit them.
The old family truck's front caved in as some invisible force had cut into it and before long it quickly ran all the way up to the passenger side.
Danny watched in muted horror as he saw his daughter taken away by the invisible force of carnage, and right after his truck twisted and was yanked and tossed into the side pavement as though a petulant child were tossing away a broken toy.
His seatbelt did its job to keep him in his palace as the truck tumbled with windows shattering and metal scraping with a horrendous screeches.
Soon, what was left of his truck came to a stop right side up, dazed and in shock, Danny could feel his body stun him with pain, muscles were strained from violent back-and-forth movement in his neck and joints, and he felt blood leak from the cuts in his skin as glass and metal fragments tore at him, but he was lucky, as it all could have been worse, much worse, if he had been in the passenger seat…
"TAYLOR!" his mind snapped back to focus as his heart began to rapidly pump his blood, frantically he tore off his seatbelt and nearly fell onto the road filled with debris from whatever had hit all those other cars.
None of that mattered as his eyes swept around until…There!
He found his Daughter, but the site of her position and condition gave him pause.
He found Taylor underneath a mound of METAL, there was blood covering her and OIL.
[DESTINATION]
she wasn't moving, he couldn't see her move, he willed his body forward, but it felt too slow, too slow, his heart, he could here its pounding and his breathing hitching.
A familiar site, all that METAL, crushed cars, bodies lying about.
A familiar scene, too much, it resembled that one singular horrible day too well.
[AGREEMENT]
his eyes betrayed him, the site was blurry damnable FLESH, he wiped his eyes but too slow, his limbs, too slow.
He was nearing her prone body, was she whole or torn in two under that METAL, her beautiful white hair stained with blood and OIL.
He tripped and his face met the site of a torn hand and mangled FLESH.
[TRAJECTORY]
He could not hear anymore, he could not hear the sound of sirens, the echo of screams, and tearing METAL.
He should count himself lucky not to hear it, right now he could only repeat one singular thing, one name.
"Taylor" if he could hear his own voice, what would it sound like, the sound of a wounded animal mewling out as it cradled its young.
The overwhelming feeling of sorrow and loss, memories provided hateful comparisons to that day, the day he lost his light.
And now under METAL, covered in blood and OIL, his last light, his last hope, his greatest CREATION, his own FLESH and blood lay motionless.
[AGREEMENT]
A spike of pain laced through his skull and how it burned, but not as much as that deep all too familiar pit of darkness that threatened to pull him back into the abyss.
He was about to beg, to scream his lungs out and cry to the heavens above to take it back, he didn't want this pain.
He was just a single father who wanted his daughter back, he wanted to see her smile again, he wanted to be there when she showed him her boyfriend or girlfriend and to threaten them with his shotgun.
He wanted to see the day she graduated and the day she moved out and the day she got married before then having children of her own where he could tell tales to them about how the bay used to be.
And as if by divine intervention his prayer was answered.
He froze still as he saw the twitches run up and down his daughter's fingers before then her opened.
Seeing those two beautiful blue orbs where the greatest thing he would ever see outside of holding her when she was born.
"Taylor" his hearing was coming back to him, he could hear her breathing and when he managed to hug her he could feel the beat of her own heart.
"D-dad" tears were now freely flowing from his eyes as he let his heart take over.
Danny didn't care how long it was that he cried for while hugging his daughter, he thanked god and any else remotely similar.
He began to realise that his daughter was unharmed, there was not even a scratch on her as she pulled herself out from the METAL.
He also regrettably, began to realise that he and his daughter were among the few lucky ones to escape the carnage that was all around them.
Both heard the screaming, smelt the blood, and FLESH.
Quickly the police and the PRT arrived, and both swept the area as they helped those who they could and provided comfort to those who they couldn't, the fire brigade and paramedics then came to ferry the injured and dead to the nearest hospitals.
It didn't take long for a local hero by the name of Velocity to zoom in and see them, they saw how alarmed he looked as his hand snapped to his right ear and began talking in a hurried way before making his way over to ascertain their conditions.
What happened next was a blur of activity to Danny, he and Taylor were both questioned by the hero who then had them take an armored van back to the PRT HQ where once they arrived would be sent towards the infirmary where they treated their own troopers and the occasional Ward or hero.
Danny didn't care though, he didn't care about himself at that moment, all he cared about was his daughter and that she was okay, she was here with him safe and sound, and he could find comfort in that truth.
And because she was okay he could now finally rest his eyes for a bit as sleep would likely get rid of his bone-shivering worry, and that nasty headache at the back of his head.
However, he really should have paid more attention to the fact that he was dismantling a defibrillator and turning it into a hovering heartbeat-monitoring drone.
