Tatsuki Quest: Somehow, I became the protagonist of this shonen battle manga!? [Bleach]

[x] Ichigo should do it. He knows more than any of you why Orihime's brother can't remain as he is, why he can't continue to be a threat to his sister.

Because I very much am that much of a coward myself.

@Tekomandor question: are write-ins allowed? I want to try and gift him shinigami powers. Because for living humans at least this swaps them to shinigami template preventing soul chain erasure. So, Tatsuki might think that it would also work on hollows.

Alternatively, can we vote for both of us striking him down at the same moment?

Look at the quest's title: we're the protagonist here, not the strawberry! :p

yes we may be the Prota, but our Purification process is fucking weird, we have no idea of what is going to happen to Orihime's brother if WE kill him, its a safer bet if Ichigo is the one to do it

This actually seems like an important choice so I'm going to try and think it through. Doing this is the first step toward claiming protagonist status- if we let Ichigo do it, we're taking a decently important character beat and throwing it off onto another character to take care of. In addition, I can see Tatsuki, as Orihime's friend, definitely thinking that if anybody is going to put Orihime's brother's soul to rest, it should be her. There's definitely value there from a character standpoint. There are also potential experimentation bonuses and gains involved in doing it now, as soon as possible. It could potentially also be seen as Tatsuki passing the buck to Ichigo, which Orihime wouldn't care for.

On the other hand, we're already traumatized the fuck out due to the reveal of the nature of the Hollows to begin with, and I really doubt having to go through the process of purifying one without sufficient prep time. Ichigo definitely does have some rights to take care of this himself, to an extent. And I think that the personality argument is decently sound; there is a really good chance that while this isn't the definite marker of whether we become somebody more like Orihime- compassionate, cares about others, all that good stuff, or a HARD GIRL MAKING HARD DECISIONS and I definitely want to go down the former road if at all possible. And to add to the emotional component, Tatsuki really cared about Orihime's brother, and I can definitely see this being too much for her. There is also minor risks involved.

Overall, I tend to look for characterization arguments, and I think the characterization arguments against are much stronger than "for". (The one about Tatsuki being Orihime's friend has some merit, but is kind of overwhelmed by all those reasons against, and I somehow think that if Tatsuki explains her perspective to Orihime, she'll be considerate enough to not consider it "passing the buck" at all.)

We're not being a coward. We're being a realistic version of Tatsuki that could be setting herself on the right route to the future; we don't need to be front stage if being front stage doesn't quite make sense, takes way some mild character beats, and could potentially be opposite the way we want to go.

Another thing here, is this is the prototype beat for the entire Byakuya-Ichigo conflict. One of Ichigo's strongest values is that older brothers are to protect their little siblings, and in this scenario he encounters a brother who is violating this. Him helping resolve it, and the canon resolution of Sora purifying himself, thereby redeeming himself, sets up for how Ichigo relates with Byakuya.

We're stealing the protagonist role, but that doesn't automatically mean Byakuya will become our opponent. After all, Ichigo's companions faced captains as well. So undermining Ichigo's motivations and developing understandings means endangering the resolution where Byakuya and Rukia actually develops a sibling relationship.

I'm hoping for Komamura as Tatsuki's opponent during the Soul Society arc, since he was mostly used to complement Tousen, and then job to Aizen and didn't really get developed. They're both non-standard Shinigami, with Tatsuki's absorbing/learn from hollow powers and his whole being a dog spirit thing, both of which are likely things they wont want to advertise (particularly once Tatsuki realizes she is some sort of abberant weird thing and that isn't a normal shinigami power), and plays out the to be lawful (Shinigami) or good (drifters) conflict of the arc.

I don't care for the whole protagonist discussion. I just feel that he would prefer to be sent to the next world by someone he knew in life.

I also disagree with the notion that there is some feeling or sense of duty that only guys with younger sisters have or can understand.

I feel like planning multiple arcs down the line in a canon derailment quest isn't the best course of action.

(Also ftr I agree with @Langly that the whole "unique sibling duty" thing is kinda silly)

I don't have any deep or insightful reason, i just kinda-sorta choose this one just because? :S

You know, honestly, ever since I made that vote a little voice in my head has been saying "Hey, Broken Base, despite that WOT, don't you think it'd be poetic if the first time Tatsuki purified someone it was someone she cared about? That it would be emotive and interesting to read? And that having to push through her own emotional trauma and confusion in order to do what she thinks is right would prove her strength of character and make her somebody even easier to root for, as opposed to it just narratively thrown off on the other narratively relevant person, and not getting to show herself being able to overcome that struggle?" And I'm like "You're kind of right, voice in my head, so fuck it?"

[Jk] stab Chad through the heart and get him to do it.

No way this can go wrong! : p

If our status as protagonist is in any jeopardy whatsoever, letting Ichigo do this is a sure way to end up as a secondary character.
