Superhero system

I just…want him to…have an assortment of slightly useful powers.
Why can't I have my variety platter?
I think a big part of it is the nature of the user. This is a guy who wants to fight evil, and a slightly stronger stomach for food ain't gonna help. Depending on QM's preferences we could try to get a user whose goals are more esoteric to justify some shenanigans. Even that, I suspect, will be a hard sell for the players at this point though.
By the nature of our system, spending XP on creating a Skill lets us then offer that skill to multiple users without having to spend the creation XP each time. This means that as we create Skills for Charles, which are likely to be combat oriented, we are then incentivized to prefer other users who are able to find those same Skills useful.

I do have a thought on how this could be partially mitigated in a way that could serve everyone's interests. Given that we're already prioritizing Intelligence perhaps we could give him a crafting/invention type Skill? This would let him build things to achieve his ends, but a user with other goals may find it equally agreeable.

If we do go that route it should come after we get him a version of Toboe's shield, since he wants to be in combat ASAP (albeit just with muggers for now) and I think we're only going to be able to delay him from that task so much, so we gotta keep him safe.

In the system introduction, it says
"User must have some goal, must be willing to fight for said goal, and is hard set on said goal."

What that means is the user cannot be someone who won't fight. They can not want to fight, but if they won't fight than they cannot be a user.

No matter what the system does, the user will act out their desires one way or another with or without us.

Reason? They were going to do so anyway but we went in there saying "hey we can help!" If we don't help they go in following their goal and probably dying.
Most users we get will die sooner than without us, due to their goals and willingness to fight.

You can have your variety platter… just make sure it actually helps our user. He can and will die someday.
Fine fine. Power 1, the ability to fall asleep instantly and wake up when sounds above a certain decibel are heard. We can set the amount of the decibels. Power 2, we have the ability to dislocate and relocate any bone in our body at will, with minimal negative effects. Power 3, we can morph our facial features into that of a dog, gaining the powers of what a dog's head does, though losing what we have as a human (besides our intelligence).

The food and stomach thing was to develop into a stronger ability to consume things that aren't food. Search up "Pig God" from One Punch Man. That would definitely help. But with what BackAngle said, the platters back on the menu boys.

Oh. My. Lord. I just got an idea for a villain. Pig god but villain. That's horrifying but I'm definitely making a reference of it at minimum.

Third person POV:

Charles was working inside a workshop, a workshop in such disrepair that he had to spend a whole minute with a crowbar to open the door. This did not matter in the slightest, for the key parts of the furnace still worked.

It was truly curious, perhaps it was due to his increased intelligence, that he thought up this weapon within 2 hours just by looking through his friends old books, simply looking for inspiration.

It would be a few more hours until he finished the metal gauntlets, they were almost done, the mechanics of said gauntlets would take even more hours.

4 hours later…

Charles finished the project by taking one more look over it, made sure every was off, came to his seat and collapsed.

The gauntlets were made.

Charles POV:

Piston gauntlets: A pair of metal gauntlets, with a simple piston on top that's mechanically powered. The gauntlets themselves weigh 40 pounds each, with the inside of the gauntlets being covered with leather with that being covered by cloth.

On top of the gauntlets there is a simple piston that can be activated by a thumb pressed trigger. Once triggered a 1 foot long iron spike gets pushed forward and than pulled back, all in the span of a second. The piston must then reset for 15 seconds.

Weapon stats: 12 damage, +8 defense, and the following effects:
Effect(Minor effect): Clapping or smashing your gauntlets together intimidates enemies. You also gain +4 damage to your next hit.
Effect: Triggering the piston deals 18 piercing damage and ignores 5 defense. Cooldown 15 seconds.

Note: A work of deadly art.

The first thing I did when I woke up was check them. They have so much more info on them than the cloak and mask. Why is that? I should make a system query about that.

"Let's see how you fit-and ohhh that's heavy." Jesus! I know I made them to be heavy but that's because of the system requirements.
'Looks down at them'… I can make these work, I'll get stronger gradually as all I need to do is put some points into strength, with that I'll be able to wield these with no effort.

"Until then it's going to be tiring every time I punch." That means… no fighting for a few more days… I…

Does he look for a fight: Dc 40/60 rolling… 40+10(Fighting experience)= 50! User is conflicted, he will not look for a fight, however if he encounters foes he will struggle to not fight them.

I shouldn't… It's only a few more days of uselessness. I should play smart and scout out their bases.

2 hours later… at night…
Third person POV:

Charles through his studying of the downtrodden and the like, he has discovered 3 possible locations for the Pikemen to have bases at. The Pikemen are mostly located south of his graveyard, in a district where small businesses call home, 'the borg'.

Of the 3 possible locations, one turned out to just be a normal bar for bikers with the second one finding fruit. A 2 story clubhouse/bar right near a bridge. The reason Charles knew it was a location and could confirm it was quite simple. The 0/1 box became 1/1 as soon as Charles got into a position on a nearby building.

Charles had parked his bike in the alley way right next to the nearby building, a building that was across the corner from the bar, before going up the fire escape.

Doing this with the gauntlets was tiring but he didn't feel safe leaving them with the bike, he didn't feel safe leaving his bike in a random alley either even if he was 'right there'.

A total of 75 minutes had gone by, he was finished but he wants to know more, he was counting every new face that came by and-

Is it the main base?: Dc 75 Rolling… 80!

-he found at least 70 people coming in and out in his 1 hour stay. His only thoughts were that if this wasn't their main base, then the count of their gang was way off.

He had already accepted the reward, which he was happy about for some reason. He seemed to think that it was useless but despite that, he liked the idea that he wouldn't get tired easily.

He inched back and got down the fire escape-

Encounter roll: Dc 65 rolling… 74! Encounter! Rolling 1d4+1= 1+1= 2! Gangster count 2!

-where there was 2 muggers down the alley not far from his bike, mugging a woman who was fighting back her hardest. This was not what set him off. What set him off was this.

Her clothes were ripped.

Next one is fighting, I did a roll to see how bad the mugging was and that would decide if he went to help... rolled a 100 into a 58.
So you can imagine what's happening next post. A serious ass kicking. If rolls will it.

Rolling unique weapon design: Dc 60 rolling… 100+48(Extra roll due to Nat 100)= 148!

Piston gauntlets: A pair of metal gauntlets, with a simple piston on top that's mechanically powered. The gauntlets themselves weigh 40 pounds each, with the inside of the gauntlets being covered with leather with that being covered by cloth.

Weapon stats: 12 damage(8 natural damage + 4 damage from the reward.), +8 defense(6 natural defense +2 defense from the reward, and
Effect(Minor effect): Clapping or smashing your gauntlets together intimidates enemies. You also gain +4 damage to your next hit.
Effect: Triggering the piston deals 18 piercing damage and ignores 5 defense. Cooldown 15 seconds.

Note: A work of deadly art. Optimal wielding strength is 18. Suffer penalty if below optimal strength. Penalty depends on how much lower strength is compared to the optimal strength.

Oh and to explain the weapon choice... I saw how high you rolled, so I wanted it to be a unique weapon or at least a 'cool' one. I went through some of my old writing from previous quests and found that idea. I was going to roll for the weapon type he picked, but I couldn't quite find a weapon idea that matched how perfect this one was.

Also last thing, if you guys want to think up some weapon ideas that'd be great.

There seems to be something wrong with the cooldown. Is it 15 sec or 10 sec?

Ooh, is there gonna be need for more weapons for our dear Charles?

It's 15, I corrected it.

Also yes. It can be anything from weapons to armor. Or some gadgets, those are always fun. Anything you can think of really.

Can we use rewards to give out materials that allow him to craft better than normally plausible stuff?
That's a wonderful idea, we can give him 'normal' materials or some made up materials like vibranium or something.
I'll allow the normal materials as rewards for now, and low powered made up ones.

Hmmm would a possible ally or sidekick in the future be a reward ot social action?
A reward? Nope not doing that.

But if you want to make some fellow hero ideas go ahead, if you want to make some sidekick ideas go ahead.

If it's a good idea in concept I'll probably put it in as an ally to him or something similar. Make sure to put in personality by the way. At least a basic idea of their personality or how they view themselves.
Either one would work.

Why must I fix everything I touch?

Hey, that went surprisingly well!

I was wondering why it was so strong. I'd be glad to make up random weapon ideas.

Hmmm would a egg that they have to care and interact with to hatched and determine they're form it could be a reward side quest

Would y'all mind if I added a mission idea from earlier? The "pray at the graveyard" with the +1 spirit reward.
