I made a potential logo to use for the site.

I based it's appearance around the little XenForo logo up top:

Also have the Photoshop file it was build with (including layers and such) to e-mail to an administrator or someone if they want to use it.

It's a .png with transparency elements, and should look good on most darker backgrounds.

I thought an arrow with heat based colors would be good for the site's 'style', along with the stretched out name like that.

Might be a nice add-on to some of the new site's layouts, particularly whichever one is chosen as default, if the administrators know how to set it that way.

Just made a bookmark icon as well.

Tinypic version is the wrong file type as a warning. I have the .ico version and can e-mail it if needed to administrators if they want it, as well as, again, the photoshop version of the file.

Honestly, there had been some discussion about running a contest of sorts, but this is wonderful!

Just out of curiosity, my own attempt at a logo:

Is there a reason why the V looks like a different font or resolution or something than the S, or was it a quick mock-up?

Ah, yeah, I've seen that happen before when working at low resolution. I find it helps to start out at higher resolution and scale down once the entire image is finished, and keep the original larger version for later reference and use, or at very small resolutions, stay at one resolution the whole time.

Well, that or use vector-based art, but Adobe Illustrator is expensive.

I could do all that stuff but honestly it was much faster for me to just build it pixel by pixel in Paint. :p

Guess I'm just used to photoshop. :p

Been using it since I was in elementary school, all the way back with Photoshop 3, 'cause my dad taught me to use it. My dad works in the computer graphics/advertising business and was in on the ground floor when computer graphics started taking off. I was using an old Atari computer's paint equivalent even back during pre-school, so a lot of computer art stuff comes to me like riding a bicycle. I haven't done it in years, and still managed to pick it back up and make the logos in less than an hour.

Using something like paint reminds me of how I used to make my own icons for my old Quadra 800 mac, changing stuff with ResEdit so all the folders had my own style (I made them kinda embossed looking and blue) along with other file types, working with lots of low res images pixel by pixel with a limited color pallet. It was pretty fun to do, and my OS looked cooler afterwards.

Monitor resolution has changed so much since then. Back then it was 800x600 on the average monitor of an end-user, maybe a bit bigger for newer computers or people with high-end (gargantuan since it was CRT) monitors. Now I've got a 1080p monitor and can hardly see the individual pixels if I push my chair out, and some computers have things like apple's 'retina display' where at normal viewing distance the pixels are too small to see. Plus a lot of monitors these days are starting to be 3D and/or touch-screen.

*nostalgia*

Can you easily make a copy of that icon (as a png!) in the following sizes?
  • 152x152
  • 144x144
  • 120x120
  • 114x114
  • 76x76
  • 72x72
  • 57×57
We can thank Apple for this; http://mathiasbynens.be/notes/touch-icons

The upside is both Android and iOS will use the best fit of those for the touch-icon/bookmark

The logo needs to involve that picture on an asteroid smashing straight through the planet while an astronaut watches from the moon.

Make a nice graphic design of that.

Actually, I was thinking a delta V symbol. Mostly for the implications and ironic nature.

I've been working on a logo for the past few days, and I'm hoping to have it finished by today. If it is, I'll post it here.

I made a tiny version of my own logo, but I'm not done playing around with it yet sooo..

The quality came out really really bad, so I'm trying to fix that.

Sure, it's basically just an arrow on a radial gradient. I'll throw it together later if needed.

Wow. I really like that. One question, though, what would it look like if the arrow went through the middle of the text, perhaps even appearing as if it was piercing the letters like a high speed photo of a bullet through a playing card?

It might look good that way, but I don't know if I really like that style, someone else can try to make it that way if they want. I put the arrow below the text as it looked wonky going through the text.

Ok. I wasn't sure how it would actually look, but I really do like your logo as is. Very nice work.

In advance...

I will outright vote for Avalon Aurora for Logo/Banner design, and such. Because that's pretty good.

I really like it! It just occured to me though, Could you make a version of this that just has the letters SV?
Most sites have a little image next to the tab (on chrome anyways) and perhaps we could use a version of that for the tab image?
How it looks right now:

Forgive the double post, but here's what I've got so far, if anyone's interested:

EDIT: And here's a version with a black border:

IMO: it should be like the arrow is a giant rocket with an Orc riding on top of it while it pierces through the text super fast.

Here's the full-size logo of that tiny thing I posted earlier, just so people actually know what they're looking at. Thoughts?
