Students of Charnekum

"Alright, cool. That's such a *sick* name though... Get it? Get it? Cuz 1777 is Illl if you look at it upside down? Get it? And sick is another word for ill?"

The silence is powerful and tends to drag on for a long moment as jack says nothing.

"I must re-calibrate my formulas for humor, you are acting like that was amusing, yet it is registering as banal. I apologize for the inconvenience"

"so cold..." I mutter, but quickly recover. I know my jokes are bad, but that's part of the charm! Dad jokes are so stupid they're funny, so mike can be too right? Right?

"Nah," I reply, "your sensors are completely right, he's just that kind of guy."

Fucking flamer, no sense of humour. That's one person not invited to the start of the school year party... though admittedly, there is a lot less alcohol and sex then I expected when I heard boarding school. I mean, obviously there isn't in class, but when you're as experienced as me you can tell if that's somebody's scene and besides Ol'Inferno and the pretty lady who was standing next to her... I wonder what her name was... None of the people talking really seem the type. Oh, to be lampooned with the side characters, woe is me, such is life.

" Don't listen to her Jack, she just doesn't understand good humour. I bet she thinks puns are bad too."

"Now now, before anything happens, now that we have introduced ourselves, I bet you have some questions about the school, or about me, or whatever you can think of that I might be able to answer.... Ah hell, Just ask away," As Juniper said this she walked around to the front of her desk, which, looked more like a tree turned into a table, and sat on the front of it with her legs crossed.

" Don't listen to her Jack, she just doesn't understand good humour. I bet she thinks puns are bad too."

Does this guy ever stop talking? It might not be so bad if he was saying something important, but, he's trying to say his 'joke' was good.

"Depends on the pun," I say back, "But a joke where you have to say 'get it?' three times and give an explanation is a bad joke. Now can we get on with...whatever else we do here?"
"Oh thank The Powers," I whisper. "I've got a question: Are there any rules against selling things to other students?"

Then I remember something and, unfortunately, turn back to Nym, forcing a smile on my face, "Oh and, Nym, can I have my arrowhead back? That wasn't a present."

"Miss~ Is there anything we should watch out for?" Harvy suddenly put up my hand and asks, quite serious albeit sounds sleepy "Like restricted place or time, unwritten rule and the likes.."

I had a question. "So ummm. How am I, as well as any other vampires, gonna be fed?"

I slowly replace my book back into my bag, having an odd sensation having been processing so much information to have to suddenly stop.

When it comes my turn I hesitate briefly. "I am unit 1-777, others have taken to calling me Jack, in reference to a jackpot, you may do so as well if you wish"
In a moment the silence makes it apparent that, that is all he has to say on the matter of introducing himself.

I look at the robot with a mixture of confusion and awe, mostly because one, it seems sentient, two, it's a robot in a magical school that alone is worthy of some awe.

"Nice to meeet you Jack. I didn't think that robots could do magic."

"I have a few. First, is there a set curfew? Second, if so what is the penalty for breaking said curfew? Third, is there a list of banned items? Fourth, if so what is the penalty for having one of said items? Fifth, are you single? Sixth, my parents sent me here under the assumption it was a boarding school. When will I know my roommates? Seventh, and most importantly," I lean in, "is sitting on tables and desks banned? It's very important for me to know."

Turning back to the teacher I remember I had some questions I wanted to ask.

"Excuse me but I would like to know more about the time table here, also are we aloud to send messages to family memebers who aren't in on this whole 'magic is real thing'?"

Yeah that may only be a problem for me but still, one can never be too sure about these things.

"Oh thank The Powers," I whisper. "I've got a question: Are there any rules against selling things to other students?"

"Ah no, most materials and equipment you need outside of class you have to find yourself, be it buying it from others or finding it slash making it yourself."

"Miss~ Is there anything we should watch out for?" Harvy suddenly put up my hand and asks, quite serious albeit sounds sleepy "Like restricted place or time, unwritten rule and the likes.."

"Restricted places? Well... hmm... the Armory is restricted to students, there is a section of the library you guys don't have clearance to, Dont harm any other students, that includes binding their souls, aaand... hmm... I feel like im forgetting something... OH! If you want to use the training grounds ask first."

I had a question. "So ummm. How am I, as well as any other vampires, gonna be fed?"

"There are vials of... liquid... for you in the cafeteria." She didn't know who in the classroom had a history with vampires so she left it at that.

"Curfew? Yes. for first years its 10 P.M. Local time. There is a penalty, its three strikes, two warnings and detention after that. The banned items... hmm. Mostly live demons and such, some diseases, a few unstable and radioactive metals, and nuclear waste. And yes, they will get confiscated and you will receive a fine for having them. I'm not single, Married for five years. And your roomates have not been assigned yet so you will all be sleeping in the bunks for a bit as we are still working through your sleeping arrangements. Just let it be warned, you will have three other people living with you for the next four years. And as you can see, sitting on desks isn't illegal, I have the classroom set up so that wont be a problem. Just don't get in others way." Juniper spoke, looking up trying to remember the rules.

"Excuse me but I would like to know more about the time table here, also are we aloud to send messages to family members who aren't in on this whole 'magic is real thing'?"

"There is a way to send letters and texts, or you can go full magic and use Telepathy. But that might freak them out."

She paused for a moment.

"That it?"

Why would anyone want any of the banned items to begin with is beyond me but no use prying into it now, it'll probably just unnerve me more.

"That's all from me."

"Me too."

"Here ya go... What was it... Um, what was your name again?"
"Apoy, Plamen," I answer as I take the arrowhead back and reattach it to the shaft, "and thanks."

Okay, it's entirely possible this guy just messed up at the start and me being...irritable made it worse. Maybe I should try being nicer, no sense alienating a potential customer after all. I give Nym another smile before turning back to wait for whatever the teacher does next.

"That it?"
I nodded. But why was she shy about what I eat? Confused I looked around to see if anyone had any response to my question.

Juniper jumped off her desk and walked around to the blackboard behind her. "Alright. Now that we have everyone introduced, Let's get to the topic today." Juniper grabbed a piece of chalk from the rack and wrote 'Charnekum' in english on the blackboard in very elegant handwriting. "You, my students, are attending a wonderful place, but you must not know that much about the school. I'm going to give you a crash course in this very old building you now sit in." She paused to take a breath.

"Right now we sit in the west wing, one of the three wings, the others being the industrial and sports wings. Most of your classes will be in this wing, where those who have taken Physical or crafty classes will be in the other two wings. Then there is the main hall. The cafeteria, library, bookstore, and various other supply shops are set up for you to use. There is also the quest board, but first years can't use it during the first try for safety reasons." She paused as she drew a loose map on the chalkboard, the school appeared to be in the shape of a T with a few building scattered out around the school, the largest of not was the colosseum. "And you first years will be staying in this dorm." She pointed to a small L shaped building outside the main gate. "I think i said this before… but you will be assigned roommates tomorrow based off of your classes and personalities, as to not incite violence, as much." She turned back to the class. "I feel as if I'm forgetting something…" She tapped the chalk on her nose. "Oh yeah, Try not to blow up the school. I mean sometimes you just can't help it, I did blow up one of the research labs when I went to school here, Just try not to cause too much damage." She paused. "I still feel like I'm missing something…"

"The rules Ms. Juniper? You haven't talked about those..." I asked. Hmm. I hope no-one here dislikes me....

"Hmm~ Interesting" Harvy muses softly as I pay attention to the teacher's explanation. A wonderful place indeed, some tidbits about the dorm placements and the 'quest' quite...fascinating and the facilities are not wanting for now. Perhaps this time, things will be quite memorable and I could even make friends! Others back home will be quite jealous when I get back~

Though wonder if I could meet other fairies here? Would be much more interesting if so.

Ignoring the fact that sometimes things explode here, this looks like a pretty basic school set up. I think I could stay here just fine. still i have to wonder why there's an Industrial wing, but that does save me the trouble of having to go outside to buy items. also a quick run down of the rules never hurts anyone "I agree, we should probably go over those."

"Okay, rules. I guess it's down to that now. On top of The Oath, there are a few more rules. Kinda like the AUP or whatever the humans call the student handbooks on earth. Use the facilities here for educational reasons, be that gathering funds, or learning things. Don't cause harm to students outside designated areas. Don't do Illegal activities such as destroy artifacts and tomes, and drugs, don't do drugs MMMMKAY. Your high schoolers, PDA stay away, Keep that shit in your dorm rooms. Plagiarism is bad, don't steal other people's works or spells and try to pawn them off as your own." She paused to take a breath, and continued.

"We have the right to search your shit for anything that's Illegal, Such as planning assassinations, murder, or anything that the populus would frown upon." Juniper frowns.

"You did take the oath right? The whole 'By signing this contract you agree to uphold the rules written by life, the rules written by death, and the rules stated at the creation of time. You will uphold these rules until the time of your passing, or deemed unworthy to hold the title. With this signature, in blood, you bind yourself to defend the weak, aid the strong, teach the ignorant and learn from brilliant. You bind yourself in the service of Life, and the service of Death. You bind yourself in the defense of this Universe against any who might do harm to them.' Thing at the front of your textbooks?" Juniper seemed to recite that part of the oath perfectly as if it was etched into her mind. "You know, you have to take it to use the textbooks, It's the whole, these books contain any knowledge I will ever need, and i won't use them for evil clause."

I nodded. Of course I took the Oath. "Yep. I mean....who would be dumb enough not to?"

I took the oath as well, because while i don't know about the rules written by life, death, or even the god who made this universe, if that line is hinting at a gods existence, I do believe in protecting the weak, and educating the ignorant, if they'll listen of course, also because it was the only way for me to use those textbooks. "I took the oath as well."
