Star Wars: Galaxy in Flames

I was going to ask you about developing a Rotary blaster with the infantry support weapons project, then trying to use that to develop a Light Laser Rotary canon (mounts on Capital ships only) for starfighter defense.

I say "was" because your previous post makes me think that's not likely. (Which is absolutely justified.)

Various flavours of Quad Laser Cannons are the closest that is around for that role. Think Bofors 40mm instead of CIWS.

Missiles are certainly used by warships, but as shorter range weapons. The Victory I used a heavy bank of missiles, but the Victory II went with a more traditional energy armament. I'm guessing E-WAR is the reason, but I don't care to explain it. Too many other things that I need to come up with explanations for.

Rebel A-Wings against the Imperial TIE Interceptor ends up being similar technology levels and similar results in similar roles.
This depends pretty heavily on which sources we're using. If we're using the X-wing series of books for example, the Interceptor is definitely worse. Mainly because the A-wing can withdraw into hyperspace while the TIE Interceptor has to retreat to their mothership's hanger, suffering brutal attrition in the process.

Here is the second vote generated by turn results. Please read the instructions at the bottom carefully if you want your vote to count.

Begin the Search for Ira's Replacement - Stage 2 - Potential Science Advisors

It has taken you three months of work, but you have finally managed to get your prospects reduced to a short list of 10 people. CS&IS has completed preliminary background checks on all of them. They have confirmed that none of them have any factors that would interfere with them working for Cimtar.

Now you just have to decide which three you are going to call in for an interview.

Name: Satahu Drelazes
Species: Arkudan
World of Origin: Arkuda
Short Bio: A new graduate from Arkuda's Universities who graduated within the top 5% Satahu impressed her educators with her ability to innovate on existing designs, with her final project being a complete wiring rework of an industrial reactor that achieved a significant improvement in efficiency. While young for a candidate to replace Ira, her drive and intelligence makes her an excellent candidate nonetheless

Name: Whi Usok
Species: Ithorian
World of Origin: Cimtar
Short Bio: Whi is the head of biological studies at a prominent Cimtaran university. Her work at reinvigorating severely polluted lands has brought her a great deal of fame and respect. Some of her work has centered around dealing with the harm caused by the ancient Sith facilities that cover much of the most potentially valuable land on Cimtar.

Name: Ismini Prodromou
Species: Human
World of Origin: Cimtar
Short Bio: Ismini is the lead engineer at Pyrkal. This company sprang up out of nowhere just over a year ago with a full production line for excellent anti-armour missiles and soon after anti-air missiles. It is clear that development had been progressing for some time in secret. CS&IS' initial background check suggests that Pyrkal's weapons had been created to arm the people of Cimtar in an uprising against the Imperial Governor.

Name: Mair Inglis
Species: Human
World of Origin: Cimtar
Short Bio: Lead developer of the AT-40 towed heavy laser cannon, Mair is an experienced engineer with a speciality in energy weapons and power systems. The first prototype of the AT-40 was built in her home. She has gone on to a successful position as the head of Diemaco's R&D department.

Name: Gabby Corso
Species: Elomin
World of Origin: Gulvitch
Short Bio: Gulvitch is a world of miners. Miners need equipment, and sometimes that equipment breaks. Spare parts can be hard to come by, but Gabby is brilliant at finding ways of making machinery work with non-standard parts and with non-standard repair methods, to the point that other miners on Gulvitch often come to her for fixes. Her familiarity with geology and physical sciences is hard to match as well.

Name: Gilneu Lerni
Species: Givin
World of Origin: Marrovia
Short Bio: Like many of her people, Gilneu is fond of mathematics, specializing in cryptography and probability analysis. While her unsettling appearance might be off-putting at first glance, her keen insight and warm regard for the well-being of others has won her many friends.

Name: Lin Tormin
Species: Netoncyr
World: Marrovia
Short Bio: Lin is an engineer specializing in small scale applications of precision motors as a function of biomimicry. Her work on prosthetics, factory waldos, Droid limbs has drawn praise from many sources.

Name: Athre Kine
Species: Twi'lek
World of Origin: Mogoshyn
Short Bio: A well respected Industrial Engineer, Athre has been responsible for a number of successes with Mogoshyns recent industrial projects. Her most recent contract has just finished and it seems she is currently taking a few months to herself while considering her next position.

Name: Sezra Bwegros
Species: Povanarian
World of Origin: Povanaria
Short Bio: Povanaria is not a world well known for its advances in theoretical physics, but there is an exception to every rule. Sezra is one of the most accomplished people in the field that her homeworld has ever produced.

Name: Zyanya
Species: Bagmim
World of Origin: Xochtl
Short Bio: Less of a scientist or engineer then some of the other prospects, Zyanya is a project manager that has worked in academia for decades. She has a good reputation for getting projects done on time and on budget.

Please vote for your top 3 picks. Copy and paste them exactly as they appear here, save for putting an X into the square brackets. Keep a line break between each vote so that the tally counter doesn't get confused. I'm just going to ignore the votes of anyone who fails to follow these instructions.

The next stage will be me doing a more in-depth bio and rolling for their stats. You won't see those stats directly, but I will allude to them in the bios. How accurate you are will depend on how well your rolls are when you take the action, presumably turn 17.

Energy weapons will be used constantly, droids the same, and getting things done on time will never be a bad thing.

To a certain degree, this is a bit of a referendum on the sorts of Learning actions we want available.

Satahu Drelazes - Improve Current Tech
Whi Usok - Ithorian Bio-Renewal
Ismini Prodromou - Missiles
Mair Inglis - Energy Weaponry and Power Systems
Gabby Corso - Modularity of design and ease of repair
Gilneu Lerni - Data Security, Probability Analysis
Lin Tormin - Droid Stuff
Athre Kine - Generalized Industry
Sezra Bwegros - Theoretical Physics
Zyanya - Project Management

I'll have my vote in a bit later, but cutting everything down into manageable bite-sized interest fields seemed like it would probably be helpful.

[X] Whi Usok

[X] Ismini Prodromou

[X] Athre Kine

Ismini is very based and missiles are cool, and Usok de-Sithifying our land sounds very interesting. Could open up a lot of land to exploit mineral resources that haven't been tapped for thousands of years potentially and prime locations for industrial facilities. Not to mention just reducing attrition. Zyanya is probably very competent.

[X] Satahu Drelazes

[X] Mair Inglis

[X] Lin Tormin

A prodigy of efficency, energy dev and a droid miniaturisation guru gives us a viable spread of decent options we can pick from, once we have their char sheets.

Why does this bio make me think of gaius baltar….

If it makes you feel any better the voice in her head is probably a multiple millenia old Sith Lord, not a whatever the caprica ghost thing was, never did properly make sense of that.

I have a question: Isn't 9 months a bit long for a 150 m Corvette to build?
No.

How long does it take to build a Capital Ship?

Capital ships take quite a while to build. Small ships like a CR90 might take 9 months to a year to build. Large ships, like a Imperial class SD would take 3-5 years. Kuat Drive Yards could get them out a bit faster but that would be under optimal conditions with emergency war funding levels of spending.

This is a CORE matter of the game structure and I am NOT willing to debate the matter. What may or may not be true for other Star Wars setting doesn't matter. This is true for this game.

Just an all around innovator with a seeming focus on infrastructure/industry if an industrial reactor is any indicator. Very broadly useful it seems even if its smaller improvements across the board.

Lin is interesting, better biomechanical motion for our battledroids/crewdroids is obviously very useful, and a way of punching above our manpower limitations. Notably her work has included factory waldos, so there's probably a lot of synergy with our droid based industrial programs.

Kine is seemingly just focused on industrial programs directly, which is obviously going to be useful, especially because we're trying to turn Cimtar into the arsenal for our alliance- a boost to our security, foreign policy, and economy.

[X] Gabby Corso
[X] Gilneu Lerni
[X] Zyanya

Breakdown:
geology, physical sciences, and not requiring everything to be gold plated all seem good for developing resources

security, computers, stats, and encryption seem to be a field of opportunity in the setting. A bit of an out there pick but I'm curious about how this would work in the quest so it gets my vote.

No specific field bonus but a smaller flat decrease in difficulty might be nice

So votes without line breaks last time were read as single items, but this time line breaks or no each item is getting tracked as a separate item.

I'm now thinking it's the - in front of the items that caused them to be read as a group. Is there some documentation for the tally system anywhere? I've looked a few times and not found it.

Okay, we have a lot of good options here but everyone has to admit

She is definitely the most Based

[X] Gilneu Lerni

Gabby for repair ability and maybe being able to come at the sith sites from an earth sciences perspective.
Gilneu is a Givin. Givins are a species and culture I have a particular fondness for.
Mair because energy weapons are always gonna have value, power-related things have civilian applications, and because she's either nuts enough to build high-energy things in her home or confident and safe enough to make those things in her home.

If I had a fourth pick I'd go for Prodromou because awesome but I gotta vote my heart on the Givin regardless of the fact that Prodromou's probably the better choice.

There's this, which seems to be general documentation for the tally program but doesn't seem to layout why that leading hyphen causes it to treat the vote as a block instead of lines. That said, I suspect that adjusting the tally to account by line instead of by block may have addressed the issue.
