Turn 3
house Darkridge

[x] Build
- Industry, food production

I'm still unsure what kind of lore I want to do for my lesser house. I want to incorporate that my family are more down to earth than other nobles but can't think of a way to write that.

Hugo Darkridge was not the head of House Darkridge. He wasn't the Master of Arms, nor was he the Viceroy. He was simply an Economic Adviser.

This did not stop Hugo from being important however. His was the brother of Lord-Baron Darkridge, and though Hugo did not often speak, people listened when he did.

He was currently not speaking now. A grand table spread out before him, and on either side sat men in fine uniforms. They laughed and drank, all under the watchful eye of Lord-Baron Darkridge on the far end. Hugo met his brother's eyes, and gave him a nod.

The dinner continued, until one by one the generals and administrators excused themselves and left. Soon it was just Hugo and Lord Darkridge, sitting on opposite ends of the table. Lord Darkridge cleared his throat and stood, putting his napkin on the table. "Come brother, have you seen the night?"

"I have not," Hugo said. He stood, accepting a pipe a servant offered him. He stuck it in his mouth and waved away the servant's candle, lighting it himself with a brass lighters. He took a few puffs, then crossed over to where his brother waited.

The two brothers crossed the room, heading for a large pair of double doors. Two servants opened them, and the men stepped out onto a balcony. Lord Darkridge headed to the balcony, and Hugo followed.

"Our industry is growing," Lord Darkridge said, leaning on the railing with both hands. He gazed out over the massive city that spread out before him. Twinkling lights kept back the night, and large towers rose up into the heavens. Ships weaved through the towers in orderly lines.

"Indeed," Hugo replied, taking another puff of his pipe.

"My commanders and leaders are starting to grow eager. I can feel the energy of youth coursing through them."

Hugo smiled, coming up to the railing. He watched the city as well, taking in the scale of it all. "Yes, they will no doubt wish to flex the growing might of your house,"

Lord Darkridge glanced at Hugo, raising an eyebrow. "Our house brother,"

"Yes," Hugo said, nodding in deference. "Our house,"

"I can't do this without you Hugo," Lord Darkridge said, straightening up from the railing. "This thing that is asked of me, I need my brother at my side, guiding my actions,"

"I have pledged my life," Hugo said, resting his pipe. "You will help you accomplish the things you have set out to do,"

Lord Darkridge waited a beat, then nodded, smiling. "Good. Then let us begin the ascent of this great House,"

Hugo agreed, raising his pipe. "Aye brother, let us begin,"

"Sir!" The tech yelled, running through the corridors of the fortress. "Sir!"

Ragar Fist, Luxar and lieutenant in the Free Coalition Security Council, glanced up from the datapad he held. "Slow down there young-quid, what is this?"

The tech came to a stop before Ragar Fist, catching his breath as he held out his own datapad. "Orion's Arm monitor report, House O'Rourik just sent mercenary soldiers to System 2,"

Ragar Fist held up his wrist comm. "All Orion's Arm Conflict Monitors, Group 2, my office, now!"

Ragar Fist and the tech jogged down the hall. They entered into a wide, circular room filled with other techs and coalition officers. In the center was a massive screen terminal. "What do we have!" Ragar Fist said, pointing at the screen.

"House O'Rourik has sent close to ten-thousand Mawd'way warriors into System 2!" A tech called, looking up from a station.

"How are they getting there!" Ragar Fist said, turning on the screens.

"They've got transports sir!" Another tech called.

"Where are they headed!"

A tech pokes her head out from behind a screen. "Planet Neptinus sir! They make planetfall in under twenty minutes!"

Ragar Fist turned away from the screen, looking at all the techs running around. "What about defending forces!"

"House Terra sir!" Another Tech called. "Infantry!"

"By the long-gone gods," Ragar Fist said, putting a palm to his face. "This Houses are crazy," He lowered his hand. "So no ships? No armor? No mechs? Just infantry?"

"It appears that way sir!"

Ragar Fist sighed, turning to the screens. "These houses are fucking crazy. They'll really just drop infantry in unsupported and have a go at it..."

Since I'm doing a send force action and a Raid action, should I roll 2 sets of 3d20? I'll roll one now ether way.

The city of Janess coiled around itself like a chaotic plant. Urban sprawl ran up and down the many red-rock formations that littered the Gomeza plateau. Some of the city was nestled down in cayons between the red rocks. Other parts ran up to the peaks of the formations, covering the rock in structures and lane-ways.

Almost 20,000 infantry were spread out around the city in different defensible positions. There weren't many people outside, just the autonomous trucks and service robots that kept the city running.

Private Wake Mattlay, 3rd Assualt Infantry, sat atop one of the red rock slopes. The city ran down away from him, spilling out onto the red Gomeza plateau. One deep, dark sun set in the distance. A little to the left, a smaller sun rose up over the horizen. Private Wake liked watching the changing of the suns. There were so many different shades of red and orange, and sometimes purple.

"Mattlay!" A voice yelled. Wake looked up, spotting Quick-Butcher.

Quick-Butcher was a sergeant. Or maybe he wasn't. No-one really knew his rank. What people did know was that he was very, very good at killing. He got his name in the raids a couple cycles ago. And for some reason, he'd taken a shine to Wake. "Hey Quick," Wake said, getting to his feet. "What's up?"

"Those bastards in the Sol System sent shiploads of mercenaries, and one of the comm boys stationed down the street told me they're about to land,"

"Shit!" Wake said, getting out his battle stims. He counted out two pills, then quickly washed them down with his canteen. He then checked over his rifle. Quick-Butcher watched Wake with a smile, hefting a large, square blade onto his shoulder. Wake looked up at it and furrowed his brow. "You really gonna use that?"

"If I get a chance, you bet your ass," Quick-Butcher said, running two fingers along the blade.

They were interrupted by the sound of objects blowing through the atmosphere. Wake and Quick-Butcher looked up. Streakes fell down from the sky.

"They're here," Wake said, his eyes growing wide.

"Fuck yes," Quick-Butcher said, gripping his sword.

The minutes seemed to drag by. Wake watched as the drop-craft landed throughout the city. One landed a couple streets over. "C'mon!" Quick-Butcher yelled, grabbing Wake. "Let's go kill us some mercs!"

The shooting started up as they crossed the street. Loud bangs and pops, as well as hisses. Each sound made Wake jump, but the battle sims began to take hold. Wake felt his blood pumping, then he found the fighting.

The mercenaries were spread out, using mobile barricades to lob explosives. Wake threw himself against some cover, then opened up his belt and let out some tiny missile drones. He heard a sound. Wake slowly lifted a viewing lense to peer from behind cover.

Quick-Butcher was charging with his sword. He used his exo-boots to launch off an overturned wall, landing behind the merceneraries' barricade. The sounds of fighting drfited out.

With the drugs coursing through him, Wake stood up. "C'mon soldiers, follow the Butcher!" The other soldiers cheered and ran foward. Many of them were cut down by a Heavy-Thudder gun. Wake was grazed in the shoulder, but continued charging.

The Battle for Janess had begun.

Bubbles rose up in the greenish tanks that lined the facility. Men and women in sterile suits walked the rows, inspecting the contents of the tank. The contents were bodies. One to each tank, floating among the green liquid.

Major Sadem walked into to room, escorted by two other officers. He surveyed the scene, then made a beeline for a trio of scientists. One turned to him, old and hunched, but with a devilish gleam in his eyes. The scientist bowed. "Major,"

"Lord Dorn would like a progress report," Major Sadem said, regarding the hunched man.

"Of course," the scientist said, opening his arm to present the tanks. "This is just one batch of thousands. They are almost mature, and the learning programs have instructed them without a hitch,"

"Troopers ready to serve Horse Dorn," Major Sadem said, nodding approvingly. "Very good doctor, carry on,"

The scientist bowed, a smile on his face. "Yes Major,"

House Louhi:

House Louhi:

Gliese 674 is known as a poor self-sufficient system, its only exports being small amounts of agricultural and chemical products. Previously administrated by a small side branch of the recently fallen Great House, Gliese 674's only claim to fame were the shady rumours about alleged galaxy-wide criminal activities of said administrators.

Fortunately, after the fall and a following period of unrest, it seems that everything is well again in Gliese 674. The system reports that its people have overthrown their oppressors, and joined together as worshippers of a new systemwide religion called Mother's Love. House Louhi is the representation of the religion for the rest of the galaxy.

House Louhi informs that the religion demands abstaining from all foreign influences, and thus all communication and travel to and from the system is forbidden without special permit.

To questions about diplomacy or theology, House Louhi answers that they only wish to be left alone to their simple lives in Gliese 674, and that the religion doesn't take new converts.

Only a handful of merchants and diplomats are allowed to enter the Gliese 674 system, and they are all carefully kept separate from ordinary citizens. Other Houses' volume of trade with Gliese 674 is negligible at best, which seems to be at odds with the amount of ships entering and leaving the system.

LHS 288, rebaptised as Pasiphae during its colonization, as a red dwarf star would normally give low prospect for colonization. However the system was graced by gas giant, Kujata, who not only having moons with decent prospect for colonization, but also for its largest satelitte, Sembrani, to beat the statistics in possessing a native ecosystem. Thus Pasiphae has became a important colonization site from early in the history of starfaring, and for years later has been known for its natural produce, whether they be native cultivars, specieses migrated from earth for terraformed farms, or new ones developed over long history of agriculture research.

But for its fame of natural produce, Pasiphae has never been a center of politics and powers. Even its economy potential (and therefore economic influence) didn't managed to grow as much it neighboring sytems did.

But nothing is static is this world. As the wheel of ages turn, new fortunes and dynasties rise. In recent year, two groups have been steadily gaining power in pasiphae. One is a family of shipping merchants, and the other is a ancient line of farmer and landholder going back to millenia ago. Aspiring for power, these two groups has been steadily growing closer to each other, based on mutual benefit and alleged ties of their almost-mythical ancestors. Finally, the bond has culminate in a natural conclusion: a union between the two main heirs of respective group, along with the unification of the families into a new House, House Terang-Bulan; and with it the consolidation of agricultural industry in the system.

House Delapierre

House Delapierre has been locked in centuries old Name Doctrine War with Houses de Lapierre, deLaPierre, d'Lapierre, de la Pierre and De-La-Pierre. Their conflict has been subtly fomed by House Actractus actions to ensure none of the Ross614 Houses would rise in prominence and endanger their rule over the Sector. After the fall of House Actractus, House Delapierre has been approached by agents of House [REDACTED]. They have been offered a support in Name Doctrine War in exchange for vassalage. With this support, House Delapierre quickly gained an upper hand in the War and subdued their enemies.
Currently House Delapierre is recovering from just finished War and preparing to take Orion Arm in the name of House [REDACTED].

House Delapierre is known for their use of cybernetics and the robots. Many of House members enhance themselves with cybernetic implants and their estates often employ a wide array of robotic servants. Some argue that their control over Ross614 computer network was a deciding factor in the Name Doctrine War.

Annalecia Zion stood on a balcony overlooking a parade route winding through the palace. Unlike the other Zion's, the ones from the main family, Annalesia was not technically a noble. Yes, she definitely had the superior genes of her lineage, but she lacked the command codes embedded in the true Zion's of the main house.

This is why Anna was alone, un-escourted, on the balcony. A strong wind wound its way through the towers of the palace, sending her hair struggling against her face. She ignored it, waiting for the wind to die. Once it did, she leaned over the balcony.

Below, on the winding parade route, thousands of drones marched towards transport ships. Anna watched them, zooming in with her eye augmentations.

"They're beutiful, in their own way," A voice said.

Annalecia turned, spotting her cousin, one of several heirs to House Zion. Bennadict Zion, or Ben, stood behind her, dressed in what she could only describe as an extravagant vest, cravat and coat. His chest was lined with paired golden crests, each displaying a pillar of their house. Anna gave a small bow, then raised an eyebrow. "My prince, what's with the outfit?"

"It's Mother," Ben said, rolling his eyes and coming to the balcony. He leaned casually on it, glancing over the side to watch the combat drones. "She's all about our house becoming the center of Orion's high culture. At least moreso than House O'Rourik"

"It's any wonder," Anna said, grinning. "Lord Zion seems hell-bent on reviving the entirety of House Atractus's economy. I've never seen a palace with more adminstrators than commmanders,"

"Yes well," Ben said, a brief somber look appearing. "It's better than the alternative. Father says the Great Houses are furious we aren't tearing each other apart like rabid monkeys,""

"Surely they don't want chaos?" Anna said, furrowing her brow.

Ben's gaze shifted downwards, towards the combat drones. There was a brief silence, punctuated only by the sound of marching. "All the Great Houses' want is a testing ground for new weapons, and a new Great House so that the rule of Five may be upheld," Ben leaned over the balcony and spat towards the robots. "In spirit at least," He said, straightening back up.

Anna wasn't sure how to respond. Ben was clearly feeling the weight of some great burden associated with House Zion. Annalecia didn't have such a burden. She only had one job.

Ben turned to her, fixing her with a stare. He put a hand to her shoulder. "Anna, I need to ask exactly how far you're willing to go for the glory of our house,"

Anna thought for a beat, then shrugged. "Pretty far," She said. "I mean, I'll take care of whatever you ask me to, with zero reservations"

Ben's face broke into a smile. "That's pretty far cousin," he said, taking back his hand. He nodded. "But good. Because father has asked me, to ask you, to personally oversee something,"

"Oversee?" Anna said, looking confused. "I'm more of a...killer, than an overseer"

"Exactly," Ben said, throwing an arm around her shoulder and guiding her away from the balcony. "Do you know what a Void Gate is, Anna?" She shook her head. "Well, it's a big dangerous portal to an unfathomable reality full of horrible, awful things,"

"Well...damn," Anna said.

"Yes, and we're building one,"

Anna stopped short, turning to him. "We are?"

Ben nodded. He motioned for her to continue walking. "Anna, there are things happening that are, well, to be honest, threatening to erase everything my father has worked to build. Mainly, the Major Houses," Ben continued to walk, and the pair reached a doorway. Beyond it, a thread-craft waited, bobbing silently in the air. Ben turned to Anna. "We could make something wonderful here, but the Great Houses, they don't want that. So we're taking steps to ensure we're not just pawns,"

Anna nodded, showing she understood. She paused, then put a hand to her chin. "So, we're building the dangerous gate to protect ourselves?"

"Now you get it," Ben said, grinning. He shrugged. "And sometimes, when one builds things like this, well," He gestured vaguely in the air. "Things happen. To the workers. Strange things,"

"Okay," Anna said, looking between him, and the gleaming thread-craft waiting for them.

"So Father has asked for you to be on-site...to eliminate any workers who go through an unfortunate transformation,"

Anna stared at Ben, then snapped to attention and threw her fist to her chest. "Of course!" Ben raised an eyebrow, and Anna relaxed, smiling. "Yes Ben, tell Lord Zion I'll do as he says. Why didn't you just come out and ask sooner? Jeeze,"

She made for the thread-craft, but Ben grabbed her shoulder. She stopped and turned. Ben looked uneasy. "Cousin, be careful. That's all I'm saying. This Gate stuff, it's not normal. Not rooted in science,"

Snorting, Anna tore away and headed for the craft. She waved at Ben. "Bye Ben, give the family my love!"

She boarded the craft, which sealed shut behind her. The thin ship turned away from the balcony, then took off into the sky.

System Gilese:

New Gallia: The capital of the Gilese system and the second closest planet to its sun, New Gallia has been the seat of House Volantia for several centuries. A pristine world of rolling hills, deep forests and beautiful meadows, Volantia was the perfect place for the Terran Standard Democracy, a Earth extremist splinter group, to make their headquarters. The existing settlers on the world were cowed into obedience and the mining corporations of the sector bought out from by the TSD's backers. Two decades after this, however, a mass revolt, called the Glorious Revolution, led by the powerful colonist family of Volantia ended with destruction of the TSD and the establishment of a noble dictatorship. House Volantia style themselves after the great aristocratic families of France and Germany, building elaborate palaces and ruling over vast estates. New Gallia is only so beautiful because of draconian property rights enforcement, most of the world is the personal property of House Volantia and any commoner who hunts or logs in the forests and hills without permission quickly ends up with their head removed from their bodies.

Galvexia: The closest planet to Gilese, Galvexia is a blasted, desiccated wasteland of burning hot rocks and endless deserts. Adding to the planets woes is that the mining corporations that used to control the Gilese sector utterly mined the planet dry of any but the smallest mineral deposits. Following the Rock Wars between House Volantia and the Corporations, Galvexia was put under Volantian control and re-purposed. While a large chunk of the planet's economy is still based on mining and exploration of sulfur deposits, the vast majority is dedicated to the training and upkeep of Volantia's military forces. The famed Galvexian Military Academy is here, instructing and creating the highest quality officer core in the system. Almost all children of the nobility, and some commoners too, go to the GMA to learn the art of war and command. Around the academy is miles upon miles of training camps, obstacle coruses and armories, from where the common foot soldier is created and molded.

Hulcron: Hulcron was always a strange and twilight planet. Its orbit naturally put it on the opposite side of Gilese to the rest of the system's planets, and its dense asteroid field blocked out most light, creating a permanent twilight effect on the ground. The planet itself is a morass of thick, misty swamps; ranges of twisted basalt spires and deep, dark evergreen forests. For as long as there has been human habitation in the system, there have been stories of wytches, mutants and worse in the bogs of Hulcron. There is some truth to these stories, the planets population has a naturally high rate of psychic potential and there have been numerous studies done on the vast amount of biodiversity in the swamps. However there is also a sense that something more lurks in the deepest, darkest glades and spires of the place. Not to mention that cyclopean ruins have been found stuck under the mud, atop the tallest spires or in the darkest reaches of the forest, all clearly built by inhuman hands.

"No, seriously, tell me,"

Dutchess Marie Volantia laughed, turning to her friend Lady Colleta. The two women wore causual dresses with wide-brimmed, elaborate hats. They stood on a well manicured lawn, stretching for miles in either direction. A pond occupied one end, and an orderly row of trees the other. Nearby were servants, standing side by side much like the trees.

Dutchess Volantia took her croquet stick and rested it near a red ball lying in the short grass. "Well," She said. "I can't actually say the last time I saw a non-engineered animal," She glanced at the peacock strutting near the pond. "But does it matter? Whether they're natural or engineered?"

"Well yes," Lady Colleta said. "Every bird I've seen, every leopord and minx and shoulder-monkey, they were all grown in some horrible, white-walled room!"

"And thank goodness for that," Dutchess Volantia said, placing the croquet stick to the ball. She took a delicate swing, sending the ball rolling. "Can you imagine an acutal wild animal?" A servant sprinted along the lawn, dropping to his knees near the ball and pushing it along with a small broom. Both women shielded their eyes against the sun and watched. The servant brushed it near a croquet arch, then stopped right in front of it. He straightened back up and sprinted back to his spot in line.

Lady Colleta waited as a servant placed a ball in front of her. "I was talking to Gregor Armassa the other day," She said, placing the stick to the ball. She barely struck the ball, then stepped back. Another servant sprinted across the lawn and pushed the ball along with a tiny broom.

"Oh?" Duchess Volantia said. "And how is the most eligible bachelor on New Gallia?"

"Dense and uninterested as ever in regards to the fairer sex," Lady Colleta said, rolling her eyes. Both women strolled across the lawn towards their croquet balls. "But he did mention something interesting,"

"Oh?"

"Yes," Lady Colleta said. Two servants ran up behind them, raising an awning over their heads to block out the sun. "He mentioned his role as a magister in some recent cases regarding the genetic re-ordering of House Volantia," Duchess Marie fell silent. She put her stick to the ground near the ball, but didn't take the shot. "I'm sorry," Lady Colleta said quickly. "I spoke out of turn,"

"No, it's fine," Duchess Volantia said, giving her friend reassuring smile. "I am not unware of what the noble families talk about in the capital,"

She gingerly tapped the ball, and another servant ran towards it with a broom. Lady Colleta waited a beat, then tilted her head. "But, I must confess, I am curious. What is it like to have your very genetic code re-written?"

"Well," Duchess Volantia said, motioning at one of the servants. They brought her a cloth napkin, which she used to dab at her face. "It's certainly not a pleasant experience,"

"Do..." Lady Coletta began. "Do you still feel like you?"

"I feel like a minor dutchess in a Lesser House," Marie said. "Which means I have more power than anyone I know or have ever met in my life," She fixed her friend with a raised eyebrow. "So I suppose it feels rather nice,"

Lady Coletta smiled. "To have a claim to such a grand genetic linieage. Your heirs will forever be regarded as royals,"

"Yes," Duchess Volantia said. "Though the talk I have heard of late, of things off-planet, well,"

"I'm sure everything will be fine," Lady Coletta said, giving her ball a tap that barely nudged it. A servant began pushing it along with the broom. Both women turned and watched.

"I certainly hope so," Duchess Volantia said. "Wouldn't it be nice if we could just all get along,"

"I agree," Lady Coletta said, taking her friends arm in hers. "And I'm sure with the might of House Volantia, such a thing will come to pass,"

"Yes, of course Coletta," The duchess said, smiling. "Everyting will be fine,"

Behind them, the peacock reared back its head and let out a mighty roar.

A grey sky spread out over the planet Gliese, the only celestial body in an otherwise empty system. Lieutenant Cadmin sat by several officers from Military Intelligence. They were all sipping jaja brew, watching ships thread in orderly lines among the grey clouds.

"Those clouds look grayer to you than normal?" One of the MI officers said.

Lieutenant Cadmin snorted, then took another sip of his brew. "You know everyday looks the same. It's not any grayer, or any less, than the previous day,"

"I don't know," The other MI officer said, nodding towards the sky. "That's new,"

Following his gaze, Cadmin and the other officer found what the first had noticed. A black, twisted ship descended through the sky, breaking through the grey clouds with several other similar-looking ships.

"Fucking witches," The other MI officer said, marking himself with the sign of light.

"Fucking witches is right," Lieutenant Cadmin said, watching the twisted ships circle a massive, towering spire. "The Drakha are powerful allies. I don't mind them so much,"

"You're crazy," An MI officer said, pointing his mug at Cadmin. "They dress weird, and their sorceresses are scarier than anything I've ever seen. They're fucking horror-shows,"

"Maybe so," Lieutenant Cadmin said, watching as more twisted ships broke through the clouds. "But they're our horror-shows,"

The two MI officers shared a look. "Sure," One of them said. "Until they murder us all in our sleep,"

Cadmin took a sip of his mug, then motioned towards a server to have it refilled. "Oh I don't think we'll have to worry about that. Lord Louhi is giving the Drakha his only son and heir, to train in their ways," The two MI Officers almost spit out their drinks. Lieutenant Cadmin smiled. "Why, soon House Louhi will be as much a part of the Drakha as they are of us. I'm surpised you guys didn't know, being military intelligence and all,"

"I don't like that at all," One of the MI officers said. The other nodded.

Lieutenant Cadmin held up his cup as the server refilled it. "You two can't seem to grasp the bigger picture. Lord Louhi is ambitious, and the Drakha are just one small stepping stone on the way to realizing his goals,"

"You sure seem to know a lot about all this Cadmin," One of the MI Officers said, narrowing his eyes.

"Well of course," Cadmin said, smiling over the brim of his cup. "Who do you think the new liason is between House Louhi and the Drakha?"

"Yes," the scientist said, sniffing. "This opprotunity you have given me will not go unappreciated. I have always wanted the resources to pursue some of the greatest feats of biology,"

"Yes," Major Sadem said, fixing Dr. Croanz with a stare. "But please understand, although Lord Dorn may be a fan of your work, my job is to ensure you produce results. It is not biology you work for, but me,"

"yes of course," Dr. Croanz said, bobbing his head. "For the glory of House and Legacy, and all that,"

Major Sadem took a deep breath. "Good, then if you'll excuse me, I must be going,"

The Major walked along the corridoor to a waiting hover-craft. A waiting trooper saluted, then stepped back for Major Sadem to get on board. The hover craft took off, zipping along the palace and passing all manner of administrators and servants. When it stopped, Major Sadem got off in front of a large pair of golden doors. They opened, revealing a luxurious lounging room inside.

A representative from House Darkridge waited, sipping on a tumbler of brandy. Major Sadem walked to him, shaking the man's hand as he stood. "Sorry to keep you waiting," Virl said, motioning for the man to sit down. "I was pleased to hear Lord Alexander was interested in a deal,"

"We find it practical," The man said, nodding in acknowledgement. "And fitting to expand our industry,"

"Well then," Major Sadem said, accepting his own glass of whiskey from a servant. "Then let's talk trade, shall we?"

"Another House sir," The tech said, consulting the screen. "House Eire'Hart!"

"That makes twelve," Ragar Fist murmured, more to himself than anyone in the room. "Twelve Minor Houses, all with the potential to become a major pain in my ass,"

"Do you want us to extend the monitor operation sir?"

Humbu'Fray sat cross legged in a dark room. Blades and guns hung from chains around him, but his eyes were closed. A knock sounded on the door. "Come in," Humbu said, his hoarse voice echoing around the room. The doors opened, and a Guthen mercenary poked his head in.

"We're ready sir," The Guthen croaked.

Humbu'Fray rose, the weapons swaying around him. He glanced at them, then unhooked a rexling-repeater rifle and slung it over his shoulder. Next he unhooked two blades and threaded them through holsters behind his back. He secured them with a tightening of a belt, then gestured at a helmet hanging near the door. The Guthen mercenary looked at it, then carefully unhooked it from the chain and walked it over to Humbu. The Mawd-Way warrior took the helmet and slid it over his face. "Let's go,"

The Guthen followed Humbu'Fray out of the hallway. At the end was a doorway, and beyond that, a massive pink sky. There were more Guthen soldiers waiting outside. Thousands, and several elite Guthen Dragoon-Troopers. Humbu'Fray was the only Mawd-Way present. He was the only one of his kind for many, many lightyears in any direction. He was back in the system to exact revenge for this fact.

They were in a mining complex, spread out along blackish ridges. The black rocks that rose up from the ground contrasted sharply with the pink sky.

"Oh good, you're here," A voice called. A nervous looking man threaded his way through the Guthen mercenaries, stopping before Humbu. The man gestured vaguely behind him. "We've been sitting here, an open target, just waiting to be slaughtered by the Terrans,"

One of the Guthen Dragoons raised his helm, as if catching a scent. A sudden explosion rocked the complex. Humbu ducked, then drew his rifle from his back. The Guthen soldiers rushed about, calling out to each other and readying their weapons. The Dragoon activated their lances and hovered into the air.

"They're already here!" The worker said, dropping to the ground.

More explosions rocked the complex. Humbu'Fray scanned the perimeter with his aug-visor. Whoever was here had planted the bombs well, which meant a deep infililtration. He finally spotted what he was looking for: House Terra Special Forces

The soldiers wore cloaking-shrowds, but Humbu'Fray had fought such enemies before. He tagged several of them for the Guthen Dragoons, then opened fire with his rexling-repeater rifle. The Special Forces were quick to react. The House Terra soldiers opened fire with thumpers. Humbu'Fray barely had time to dodge to the side before the ground around him heaved up in an explosion.

When Humbu hit the ground, he rolled to a stop and got back up. He immediatly opened fire.

The battle raged.

The House Terra Special Forces were supported by an unit of soldiers as well. They struck hard, and fast, but the Guthen mercenaries outnumbered them. Humbu'Fray led the Guthen's version of special forces, the Dragoons, and counter-attacked after a particularly brutal barrage of thumper fire. The Special Forces fell back, but the House Terra infantry were cut down.

The Mining Complex was littered with bodies from both sides. The worker slowly raised his head from behind two corpses heaped on top of each other. Humbu'Fray nodded to him.

News footage of the fighting between Houses Terra and O'Rourik filled the screen on the wall of the meeting room. the only occupant of the Room's face hidden in shadow as the knuckles on his clenched fists turned white.

"we were supposed to have more time." Lord Tetzel muttered to the empty room as the ended their report and moved to their coverage of the hanging of a business man who was caught cutting food with cattle feed and ended up poisoning several hundred Saurite children. Ironically an embarrassing video leak of his attempting to strangle the idiot before his own bodyguards saved the scumbag was the only reason the race of herbivorous lizards didn't start rioting over what had happened.

[X] build Defense grid
Codex: The Defense grid designs favored by house Tetzel are an oddity among the houses. while their space assets follow normal doctrines on the ground they utilize a combination of artificial gaps in their AA coverage and storage depots/warehouses positioned well away from the civil defense shelters to lure attacking forces away from the civilian populations to both minimize casualties among the populace and to give their own forces free reign in dealing with the interlopers.

-SYSTEM OF GILESE-

INNER PLANETS:

Around the academy is miles upon miles of training camps, obstacle courses and armories, from where the common foot soldier is created and molded.

Danarth: The economic, and cultural back in the Corporate days, heart of the sector, Danarth was the old capital and held the main banks and corporate headquarters of all the mining cartels besides Exndex Co. After the
Glorious Revolution much of the prosperity fled to the carefully planned cities of New Gallia, most of system's population lives on Danarth. While not quite a massive Ecumenopolis, Danarth is still by far the most urbanized of the planets within the system. The landscape is mostly made up of massive cities, over polluted seas and ravaged farmland and plains. The great banks of the system stayed on Danarth, along with most financial institutions and many Volantian nobles have second homes on Danarth to facilitate control over their domains.

OUTER PLANETS:

Tellagrad: A planet of icy cold winters and dreary, rain summers; Tellagard was originally settled by a cohort of peoples from Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Underneath the thick ice sheets and clawlike mountains there lies a vast wealth of minerals and concealed caves holding vast fields of edible moss and other strange cave plants. Tellagard was the headquarters of the Mining Corporation Exndex Co., the most powerful of the mining cartels and the defacto ruler of the sector for most of its pre-Volantian history. The many mountains of the world are still scarred from the vast amount of fire power the Volantian fleet and the mining ships and stations set against each other. The ruins of the great processing stations were, when they were still functional, rebuilt and, where they damage was too much, rebuilt as mighty bastions and fortresses. As of late many of those bastions have been repurposed by groups of young, gene-modified nobility who play at knight-hood.

Conversation excerpt from Lord Louhi's office in Gliese 674c:
Unknown Head Administrator: "…and to the last item on the list. After this current round of military and administrative efforts is complete, we estimate that we will have reached Gliese 674's maximum output. All possible resources will at that point be in use for the benefit of the 'Courier Network'. Our control of the planet will be absolute, but there is only so much room in one planet to grow resources in."
Lord Louhi: "I see. Continue to oversee the process and maintain maximum production levels. This task should be easier than coordinating the initial setup, so no mistakes will be tolerated, is that understood?"
Unknown Head Administrator: "Yes my lord. Naturally my lord."
Lord Louhi: "Good. You are dismissed."

Conversation excerpt from Bureau of Internal Harmony in Gliese 674c:
Amil the Witch-Prince: "I have heard reports of grumbling from the troops. I am not pleased. Explain yourselves."
Internal Harmony Officer 1: "M-my lord, it is hard enough to control the populace, the troops are impos... *screams of pain* No, no, please my lord, I can explain! I have too little resources... *long stretch of screams, then silence*"
Amil the Witch-Prince: "I trust that from this point on the troops will be kept to the same standards of devotion and respect than the rest of the populace."
Internal Harmony Officer 2: "*Gulp* Y-yes my lord. Of course my lord. Anything you say my lord."

"How's the news about that Trade Pact idea by House Zion, Kirika?" Lord Ascalon, current head of Terang-Bulan, said while lounged in his solar to he maid slash secretary slash jack of all trades behind him.
"Their invitation have reached the various houses, but it does seem like it has receiving any good reception yet" replied Kirika Alda. "I'm not surprised" She continued, "the offer is not even yet a moon's turn past, the various houses likely will need more time to consider."
"Or everyone is getting distracted by the recent budding war" Interjected Ascalon
"That could also be a reason." Agreed the maid "There's also the fact that not all houses are keen on trading expansion like us, preferring a more martial pursuit"
"Ah, martial pursuit. Its an important matter, especially with the how the things progressing ... and how the plans meant them to be. But, for us, that's why we have my lady wife. She'll handle the matter much better than I do"
"Lady Asa seems doing well with the training of our new security forces, they are ready to see some action it seems"
"Yes, there's already a plan even ... but I digresss. Back to trade pact, I suppose the house could need reminder that there's more to power struggle than just guns and explosions. Hmm, we have just had a ball several grandcycle past, let's have something of similiar. It's also chance to show off our new tourism facilities.

"Excelent news. You are dismissed, Chancelor"
Lord Paramount of House Delapierre relaxed in his chair. Finally, after centuries of struggle, the Eternal Name Doctrine War was coming to an end. He smiled knowing that he made his ancestors proud. However his work was not yet completed. Quite the contrary, it has just started. With the entirety of Ross614 finally in his grasp, he took his eyes to the stars beyond. Whole Orion's Arm was now his objective.
He couldn't do it alone though. He needed allies. Or at least friendlies. Luckilly Lords of House Terang-Bulan were organising a ball for the Houses of the Sector. Perhaps it was a plan to set themselves as diplomatic and cultural center of the emerging sector relations network. "Perhaps", bah. With certainty! But Lord Paramount of House Delapierre will send his envoys anyway. It was a chance to present his House on the sector stage.

You sit in a chair, a comfortable chair. It's a new type of living fur, with a life-cycle of exactly two solar-rotations. Exactly the amount of time your trip took. The chair will die as you as you leave the ship, to be replaced by another, younger version.

Luxury is in the details.

And you are luxurious, if nothing else. You wear a fine suit, sparkling with jewels. A cravat hangs from your neck, short, and adorned with a single black stone. On either side of you are massive viewports, showing a thick, gray clouds. You feel yourself descending, further and further, until you break free of the clouds.

Below, a mega-city stretches out before your ship. You lean forward, taking in the scene from the large viewport. You are on the planet Sembrani, and the capital, simply known by the same name, goes on for leagues in every direction.

You can see the faint glimmer of something else beyond. You from the promotional material in the ship that beyond the Capital are expanses of rich, fertile land for almost the entirety of the main continent. Only a distant, thin wall of mountains separates this land of plenty from dangerous oceans.

The ship banks slightly, curving through the air. Two escort craft silently join you, flanking your ship on either side. They bear the emblem of House Terang-Bulan. They do not hail you, as you are already expected.

Your destination lies ahead. The Capital is mostly full of Agri-towers, massive complexes that rise up into the clouds. But in the center of the city, a large ringed wall hides something grander: The Palaces of House Terang-Bulan.

That is where your destination is. A grand ball, attended by all the lesser houses. The ship dips down, heading over the wall. The escort craft follow. Other ships join you. Some are large, some are small. Some look sleek, others, powerful. All are the grandest of their kind. Each material hand-crafted by lab-grown artisans, or indentured alien crafters. Your ship is no different.

Surrounding the main palace are eight smaller ones, spaced evenly and facing the center. The main palace is a gargantuan of its kind, with towers and archways that defied physics. It was not so different from the palaces of the other lesser houses, but not any less impressive for it.

Green lawns stretch out beyond the palaces. Your ship touches down in a lit stone circle. Servants wait, their hair and uniforms jerking around them as your ship vents exhaust. You stand, throwing a cloak around your shoulders, then whistle. In response, a bird flaps down from the roof of the ship and perches on your shoulder.

You leave the ship via the exit ramp, walking down onto the stone circle. The servants rush to you as a hover palanquin approaches from the opposite direction. They offer you all manner of chemical treats and exotic refreshments. You wave them away, though the bird on your shoulder eyes the ecta-pills. The hover palanquin reaches you, and you draw back the curtain to get inside.

As you climb in and get comfortable, you notice an evera-being sitting across from you. They met your gaze, then show their wrists. The bird on your shoulders ruffles its feathers as it peers at them. Luminescent markings adorn the wrists. You already know what they say. Do what you may the markings would say, I have no past nor future. Safe to partake, safe to kill, safe to eat if you wish. You shudder at the knowledge that this is a standard welcome-gift. You are not like the genetically perfect nobles, nor do you share their eccentric and sometimes cruel tastes. You ignore the evrea-being, instead drawing the curtain back to watch the approach.

The palaces rise up before you. Other hover palanquins zip beside, behind and ahead of you, all ferrying important men and women to the main palace. The palace in question rises up, an imposing and shining structure. Lights adorn every surface, and pale, luminescent humanoids stand atop the outer archways, singing haunting harmonies. You let the curtain fall back into place and lean back against your seat. You gaze catches the evera-being.

"Do you speak?"

They shake their head, then point to their throat. It is clear they were grown without vocal cords. You sign instead. <Can you understand?>

The evera-being puts a hand to their mouth, surprised that you know the language of the pleasure caste. They slowly drop it, then raise their hands cautiously and sign back. <yes>

<Do you know much about what's going on in the main palace?>

They seem hesitant, as if afraid. Finally their hands begin signing again. <no, I do not>

<You do not know how many of the lesser houses have arrived?>

They shake their head. <I was only born yesterday, as a gift from the Finance Guilds, and have not left my pod until now. I only know what they taught me in the dream-sleep>

You sigh, indicating with a wave you were done asking questions. Back home, such a thing as the evera-being would bring about horror. But you were far from home, and there was little to be done about it. In this part of the galaxy, where everything could be created and nothing was rare, the only true display of wealth was a command over life itself. Its creation, its continuance, and ultimately, its end. That was the true currency of the Orion Arm.

You had to stop thinking like this. You were growing angry, and you had a mission ahead of you. You feel the palanquin begin to slow, and know you're nearing the palace. You wait for it to stop, then the small sound of harps to play. That meant it was safe to disembark. The curtains are drawn back by waiting servants. You step out, straightening up and taking a deep breath of the night air.

Others are disembarking from their palanquins. Movement catches your eye. The covered carriage next to you shudders, then the broken corpse of an evera-being is thrown through the curtains. It knocks over a servant. The other servants rush to draw back the curtains, and a young man steps out. His face is pale, and his hair almost shock white. This contrasts sharply with the blood around his mouth and on his hands. A man in a officers uniform steps out and hands him a cloth, which the pale man uses to clean his face. He glances down at the corpse. "She did not accept Mother's Love,"

You swallow, looking away, and instead walk towards the palace. You join streams of other nobles as they cross the manicured lawns. You sense someone side up to you and take your arm. "Hellooooo!" A voice says. You glance over, hiding your alarm behind a calm smile. You find a woman, disarmingly attractive for sapien standards, and wearing the full ball gowns of the elite. "You look," The woman begins. "May I just say it, divine. You look divine. Tell me, I know every noble and important person in Orion's Arm," She laughs, putting a delicate hand over her mouth. "I make it my business to, so let me just ask, do I already know you?"

You give her a name. Something made up. You made a few dummy accounts on a netsphere a couple systems over, leaving the faintest trail of existence for your persona. She tilts her head, as if thinking. You know she's in fact waiting as her alter-self A.I's scour the netspheres for who you are. "Ohhh," She says appraising you with a coy smile. "And what is a person with such a...interesting, profession, doing here?"

You tell her you were invited, but don't know anyone. It's almost the truth. The bird on your shoulder coos.

"Well then," The woman says. "Let me be your guide tonight. I'm Lady Coletta Garamount, best friend of and cherished companion of Duchess Marie of the great House Volantia. As I said, I know everyone who's anyone, and there's not a better person you could have for your companion,"

She holds out her arm, and you take it, smiling. There must be a god, because this is just what you required: information. You and Lady Coletta follow the stream of nobles up grand steps. The pale beings atop the arches continue to sing, their haunting notes intermingling with the chatter of the guests.

Finally, you make it through a grand pair of doors guarded by what you can only describe as chimera. Bright lights greet you, and you resist the urge to shield yourself against them.

"ANNOUNCING," An angelic voice says. They say your name, as well as Lady Coletta's. She raises her chin, a mischievous look on her face. There's another staircase leading back down into the ballroom, and it's lined by lesser nobles and societal elites. They talk among themselves in hushed tones as you two descend the staircase.

"Oh yes," Lady Coletta says, her voice barely a murmur. "This will give the netsphere something to talk about,"

You ignore her and the red-carpet treatment, instead scanning the ballroom. It's filled with music, and strange, floating orbs. People as well. A crowd of them, dressed in the most dazzling finery you've ever seen. If it wasn't for your training, you'd be fatally out of your league. You feel a tug on your arm, and look over at Lady Coletta.

"You wanted to meet important people?" She says, raising an eyebrow. "Well let's start with them," You follow her gaze, then nod to show you see them. "Meet the representatives from House O'Rourik," She says, almost proud of herself.

[ ] Lord (Brodie) O'Rourik- Head of House O'Rourik

[ ] Calder O'Rourik- Younger brother of Magnus and son of Lord Brodie

[X] Humbu'Fray- Mawd-Way mercenary warrior and the last of his kind

"Alright," Lady Coletta says, putting a hand to your shoulder. "I know what you're thinking. Who let such wild, boisterous men into this palace? And why did they bring their little dog of war?"

You smile and admit the O'Rourik's do look out of place.

"Well don't be fooled," Lady Coletta says, giving you a playful pat. "They're good with their money, and one of the most powerful Houses in the sector. That's why they're here, and just like everyone else I'm going to introduce you to, guests of honor,"

You ask why they brought Humbu'Fray. Lady Coletta laughs, her hand returning to her mouth.

"Oh, that would probably be because of them,"

[ ] Prince Constantine Terra- Heir to House Terra

[ ] Princess Jessalyne Terra- Heiress to House Terra

[X] Quick-Butcher and Wake- Bane of Soldiers and his friend

"House Terra," Lady Coletta says, knowingly. "They're at war with House O'Rourik at the moment. Lineages and claimants, I'm sure you understand,"

You say you do, then proceed to meet both houses. First, O'Rourik, who were guarded but warm, then Terra, who were composed and inscrutable. The bird on your shoulder draws mild amusement from both parties, unusual as it is, then Lady Coletta rushes you off.

"Come come, we're not done yet!" Lady Coletta says.

The two of you weave through the crowds of elegant people. You ask more about the war between the two houses.

"Oh yes, it was all the talk several cycles ago. But you know how those things go, a couple hours and then it's on to the next thing!"

You ask if that means the war is over.

"Oh of course not," Lady Coletta says, craning her neck to peer at the crowds. "I imagine it will continue for some time, possibly even get worse. Oh! There's our next introduction, come come!"

You're hurried off through the crowds, past servants and laughing elites. You press her for more information of the relationship between the two houses.

"Oh come now, I'm sure you can figure it out," Lady Coletta says, flashing you a sly smile. "Sol, if you believe the legends, is the birthplace of the first-men. Our genetic heritage, so to speak," She's smiling, clearly enjoying herself as she hangs onto your arm. "O'Rourik is a proud, cunning House, and the Terrans are certainly one of the more ancient and ruthless," Lady Coletta slows as she nears a different group and leans up by your ear. "So you can imagine a war between those two would be something to behold,"

You remind her that there is a war, and its happening as you speak. She laughs, then points at the group you near. "House Tetzel,"

[ ] Lord Michael Tetzel- Head of House Tetzel

[ ] Lady Emile Tetzel- Matriarch of House Tetzel

[ ] Master Augustus- Head of the Order of the Western Stars

Lady Coletta guides you towards them. "Normally they'd never be dressed so extravagantly, but trust me when I say tonight is all about baring fangs and showing off wealth. Their union is quite the scandal, but I don't see the prince,"

You ask about the scandal, but Lady Coletta brushes it off with a wave.

"Oh something about Lord Michael being a warlord or something, does it matter? Their genes are now lineages unto themselves,"

You ask about Master Augustus. Before you get an answer, you're in front of heads of House Tetzel.

"Hello hellooo," Lady Coletta says, bowing at the waist. She straightens back up and introduces you. You bow as well.

"Pleased to meet you," Lady Emile says, masking her words with a fan,"

"Hm yes," Lord Michael says, sniffing. "Well met,"

"My friend was just asking about you Master Augustus," Lady Coletta said, tilting her head towards the imposing man. "Is it true your warriors can lift things with their minds alone?"

Master Augustus chuckles, then takes a sip of his glass. "Why yes my fine woman, we can indeed. It is the gift borne of years of training and discipline,"

You talk a bit longer of the oddities of psionic power, then Lady Coletta politely excuses the both of you as more nobles approach the Lord and Lady Teztel. As you walk away, you ask Coletta if House Tetzel is involved in the O'Rourik-Terra war.

"Hmm not to my knowledge," Lady Coletta says, somewhat distracted as she scans the crowds. "Lord Michael is a man of practical tastes as I've heard it, and does not often get involves in disputes of heritage or inheritance. Understandable, considering his own station of birth," She gives you a wink. "Oh! Over there! Come come, time to see House Delapierre,"

[ ] Prince Brennweigh Delapierre- Prophet of augmentation and heir to House Delapierre

[ ] Lady Guinevere Delapierre- Lady of House Delapierre and mother to the Aug-Prophet

[x] Captain Tilferd- 13th Laser Musketeers Captain

"There's an interesting one," She says, pointing out a young boy in fine robes. He was surrounded by people, who seemed to be fawning over him. "Prince Brennweigh Delapierre, a prodigy of sorts, but also controversial. You know what they say," Lady Coletta almost grows uninterested in what she's saying. "biology is the art of the noble, crafting, that of the commoner,"

You try and clarify, asking if Brennweigh is augmented.

"Everyone here's augmented you beautiful, interesting thing," Lady Coletta says, taking two golden flutes from a passing servant. She passed one to you, then sipped at hers. "But the Delapierre prince, he's more machine then some would like. And the things he says, even I've found myself intrigued,"

You can guess Lady Coletta is only interested because the nobles here were easily bored. But the boy did have an air about him then hinted at something more. His glowing eyes briefly meet yours, then Lady Coletta pulls you onward.

"And of course his mother, Lady Guinevere, but we won't talk about her. Not sure were Lord Delapierre is this evening,"

You ask about the bald man.

"Oh," Lady Coletta says, rolling her eyes. "I guess I didn't get the letter that we were all bringing mercenary companions, or else I would have found one in the streets and dressed him up a bit,"

You pause then look at her, asking if that's why she's bringing you around. A sudden smile grows on her face, as if she's seeing you for the first time.

"Oh what a wonderful idea! I must admit I made the right choice when I chose you to accompany me. Oh, but look over there, more families to meet, I think you'll like House Darkridge,"

[ ] Lord Alexander Darkridge- Head of House Darkridge

[ ] Hugo Darkridge- Commerce Viceroy and brother to Lord Darkridge

[x] Prince Helios Darkridge- Greatest swordsman in the galaxy

"The one with the large robot arm?" Lady Coletta says, pointing with movements of her eyes. "A man of the people, as some would say. So is the lady of the house, and the one standing next to them, Hugo Darkridge, does most of the ambassador work. Ah, but the children of House Darkridge. The first generation of refined, ascended genes. The ones you see there is Prince Helios. He's a legendary warrior, but his brother and sister are rumored to be even more powerful,"

"Hello," Lord Darkridge says, upon Lady Coletta doing introductions. He has a warm, deep voice. He takes your hand with his non-augmented one, and gives it a polite shake. Hugo Darkridge also takes your hand. Prince Helios simply nods, his expression unreadable.

"Well we won't take up much of your time," Coletta says, moving onward.

You try and catalog who've you met so far. The name's are coming hard and fast, and you've had to sip on the flute for the sake of appearances. Your augmented liver quickly processes it, but the contents of the glass are powerful.

"Oh!" Lady Coletta says, growing excited. "It is my friend, Duchess Marie Volantia! Oh and her husband, Duke Charles Volantia II, come, you must meet them!"

Turn 5 (2nd half image limit)

[ ] Duchess Marie Volantia- Enchanting socialite and brilliant heiress to House Volantia

[ ] Duke Charles Volantia II- Heir to House Volantia

[ ] Master Galahad - Head of the Teu'Tonic Order

"Oh Lady Coletta thank God," Duchess Marie says. She approaches her friend and they embrace. "Nobody has commented on the fact that my outfit is an original Earth heritage artifact, almost the cost of a small moon!"

"Oh darling that's awful," Lady Coletta says.

It appears that the Duchess and Duke are keeping their distance from each other. You make polite conversation with Duke Charles as the two women talk.

"That's an interesting profession," Duke Charles says, raising an eyebrow. "I imagine you are quite wealthy doing that,"

You admit that you are.

"And that bird, few species are there that my aug-eyes can not easily identify,"

You smile, confirming that the bird is quite rare. Your eyes can't help but fall on the warrior in full exo-plate standing behind them.

"Ah," Duke Charles says, briefly glancing at the figure. "Yes there's a bit of tension here tonight. A lot of resources to be had, but the war is on everyone's mind," His eyes find Coletta, barely containing his contempt. "Well, on anyone's mind with any sense,"

You notice that the Duchess and Coletta will not be done anytime soon, and ask after the hosts of the ball.

"Oh," Duke Charles says. "Yes, House Terang-Bulan. Made their money as agriculturalists, as I understand it. Of course, money is nothing without lineage. Anyone can make money. But only those with superior gene-lines may rule,"

Such a comment would normally incite you. Not tonight. Tonight you are on a mission.

You feel someone take you arm. "Come my friend," Lady Coletta says, appearing beside you.

"Quite the interesting companion," Duke Charles says, nodding at you.

"Yes I'm so glad I found them," Lady Coletta says, smiling. "But there are many to meet tonight, so come! Let us go,"

You allow yourself to be guided away. Several couples dance in the air above your head. They laugh as they step around each other with poise. You feel Lady Coletta shift, and look back down.

"There's our hosts, Lord and Lady Ascalon,"

You inquire about House Volantia, and Lady Coletta's relationship with Duchess Marie.

"Oh well obviously I'm biased," She says. "But House Volantia honors the traditions of the ancient frankish and jute kings, have you heard of them?"

You tell her you're unfamiliar with sapien history.

"Well in my opinion, House Volantia is the center of culture in Orion's Arm. It's certainly not House O'rourik, or House Zion, much as they would like. But look, we must pay our respects to our hosts now,"

[ ] Lord Ascalon Terang'Bulan- Head of House Terang'Bulan

[ ] Lady Asa Terang'Bulan- Matriarch of House Terang'Bulan

[ ] Prince Ohma- Powerful psionic master, and heir to House Terang'Bulan

"Mhmm yes," Lady Coletta says. You gather with several other nobles, who are waiting their turn to great the Lord and Lady. "This house accrued its wealth through the land, though tonight they've shed their farm-lord ways and put on quite an extravagant ball, wouldn't you say?"

You agree, then ask about the man in the white armor.

"Oh that's Prince Ohma. Lord and Lady Ascalon have their pure gene-code, but when it was implemented in Ohma, he became something different," She lowered her voice. "It's all the rage to speculate on what he looks like, or why he has to wear the helmet,"

You find it's your turn, and Lady Coletta makes the introductions. The Lord and Lady prove to be quite hospitable and warm, though Prince Ohma says nothing as he stands behind them. Finally you find its other nobles' turn, and Lady Coletta guides you away.

You ask why House Terang'Bulan is hosting the ball.

"Money, my dear, beautiful companion," Lady Coletta says, waving at someone she sees. "You will find no-one richer in all of the quadrant save the Great Houses. Everyone meets this evening to see what deals can be made, and who can become wealthier,"

You ask Lady Coletta if she's involved.

"I told you didn't I?" She says, giving you a coy look. "I'm here because I know everyone who's anyone. I make it my business to. So come, since you are still new, let us meet the others,"

After much mingling, you find that Lady Coletta has guided you near a major fountain. Its water curls through the air, doing impossible spirals before it lands neatly in the pool. There's another group of nobles present, all gathered near the edge of the pond.

"House Eire'Heart," Lady Coletta says. "A House that follows the old, old ways,"

[ ] Lord Sabbat Eire'Heart- Head of House Eire'Heart

[ ] Lady Seelie Eire'Heart- Matriarch of House Eire'Heart

[ ] Princess Celine Eire'Heart- Princess of House Eire'Heart and powerful warrior

"Lord and Lady Sabbat are mysterious and reclusive," Lady Coletta teases. "We won't approach, as the nobles they speak with believe in old gods, but Princess Celine is one to keep your eye on,"

You take note of this as you continue on, watching Princess Celine as she nods graciously at someone speaking to her.

"Of course," Lady Coletta continues. "That's not to say House Eire'Heart isn't among the best with technology, as I just heard tale from Sir Rogers about a technology deal they hammered out with House Delapierre. Oh! Here's a House I don't even know much about, House Louhi,"

[x] Witch Prince Amil- Heir to House Louhi

[ ] Lieutenant Cadmin- Righthand man of Lord Louhi

[ ] Xan- Drakhan Warlock and priest of the Mother's Faith

You recognize the one of them, it was the man who discarded the evra-being when you first arrived. You resist the urge to shudder, and suggest you and Lady Coletta move on.

"Of course of course," Lady Coletta says, taking another flute from a servant and passing one to you. "Come, there are more houses to see. Ah! There's one now, House Dorn!"

[ ] Lord Albern Dorn-
Head of House Dorn

[ ] Lady Elise Dorn- Matriarch of House Dorn

[ ] Major Sadem- Friend of Lord Albern, new adviser in House Dorn

"Everyone wants the secret of eternal life," Lady Coletta says. "But House Dorn might be the first to obtain it. They are masters of genetics, and it was they who were entrusted with the Cartian gene-seed after the fall of House Atractus,"

The words mean little to you as you study the Lord and Lady Albern. They are in deep conversation with several other nobles, and Lady Coletta continues to pull you onward. She leans in close to you.

"Of course, there are rumors of far stranger things growing in their labs, but we'll leave that talk for the netsphere,"

There is a large crowd ahead, and you ask Lady Coletta what it is about.

"Ah," She says, raising an eyebrow. "House Zion, the head of the House Trade Confederacy, and very, very wealthy,"

[ ] Lord Zion- Head of House Zion

[ ] Lady Zion- Matriarch of House Zion

[ x] Analicia Zion- The Reaper

Lady Coletta speaks with a noblewoman next to her as you gather around the representatives of House Zion. While she talks, you gaze at the nobles in question. Lord and Lady Zion wear the latest fashion, while the woman who stands slightly behind them seems content to stare at a wristpad. Your companion turns back to you.

"Lord and Lady Zion are certainly interesting in their own right, as are their heirs," Lady Coletta looks around, frowning. "Though I don't see any. There's quite a lot of them," Her frown disappears, replaced by a smile. "Though that makes the presence of Analicia all the more interesting. She's the family's dirty little secret. They call her the Reaper, and as the commoners say," Lady Coletta covered her mouth. "Don't fuck with her," She laughed. "Oh I can't believe I said that, but it's true,"

You comment that it sound ominous.

"Ominous indeed," Lady Coletta says, winking. "Now come, let us meet them,"

The meet is brief. You say your introductions, exchange short pleasantries, then make way for the next nobles. Afterwards, Lady Coleta leads you away and twirls around with slow grace, a hand outstretched towards the ballroom.

"That's everyone!" She says. "All the representatives of Lesser Houses of Orion's Arm! Now come, let us find the fountain of ambrosia and partake,"

Lord Ascalon Terang'Bulan's voice rings out, aided by floating colored orbs that dot the room.

"Noble guests, we promised you a garden party, and now a garden party you shall have,"

All around you, plants and flowers begin to bloom. Trees sprout up, twisting upward to form columns. The flowers slides along them, decorating the trunks in brilliant colors. Several large plants bloom, releasing pollen into the air that is both pleasing to the body and mind. The floors and ceiling seem to dissolve, the upper palace held aloft by the new giant trees.

The moon shines down, and the nobles clap.

You excuse yourself, promising Lady Coletta you'll return. Though she looks disappointed, she makes you promise again you'll return, then waves as you weave through the crowds. You makes sure you get far into the underbrush, past the place where the walls used to be, and outside the palace. You walk even further, stopping only when you're sure your visa-shroud won't draw attention. You throw it over your shoulders, turning yourself invisible to all but the most finely-attuned instruments. You hold up you hand, and colors dance on your palm. A moment later, holographic rays shoot up, displaying Ragar Fist's face.

"Well, did you manage to infiltrate the party?"

You tell him you did.

"Good, I don't expect you to have learned anything, but just being seen there will go a long way to you being eventually accepted,"

You tell him you already have an in. Ragar Fist seems surprised.

"Well well well, not bad rookie. Just don't get too cocky. The Deep Minds are really starting to go crazy. Something big's coming, and I don't want it coming anywhere near our borders. Got it?"

You tell him you understand, then end the call. You shed your visa-shroud, then turn back to the party. Walking across the lawn, you prepare to slip back into your role. You pause when you catch sight of several evra-beings waiting by palanquins. None of them meet your gaze, save one, who steps forward.

<good luck> they sign.

<thanks> you sign back. You turn, heading inside the newly grown forest.

Turn 6

Previously on Star Dynasties Quest,

The Heads of the Houses were revealed. The former House Atractus territory continues to be eaten up. Observers both inside and outside of the sector are holding their breaths...

But more importantly, you are there. And you are determined to carry out your mission...

You sit cross-legged, in a cramped pod filled with monitors and draping wire. It's your base, at least for now. A single metallic cylinder clinging to the dark side of asteroid. That, and an incredibly advanced casting-array, courtesy of Ragar Fist and the security council. The entire setup is quite small when considering the entire surface area of the asteroid. But it's perfect for what you're about to do.

You're about to split your conciseness into a multitude of alter-selves. This is not...easy. But you can do it. You're one of the few who can. You close your eyes, bringing down a pair of goggles attaches to wires. You affix the goggles, then feel around for several nano-pates. Your fingers fine the rectangles and you peel the protective paper away. You slap them on your bare skin, then prepare for the splitting.

so whats with the character vote options in the update?

@bioticgrunt

You open your eyes, taking in your surroundings. It's your first alter-self. Through a dummy account you managed to secure a puppet body from a local vendor, and now you're inhabiting a body thousands of lightyears away, in House Tetzel controlled space.

Your puppet body hangs suspended from wires in a small rectangular room. You flex your fingers, testing the connection. Satisfied, you begin unhooking yourself until you can lower yourself to the floor.

You open the door, finding a narrow hallway leading to a rusty metal door. There's no-one about. Unregistered alter-selves were a legal gray area, so whoever sold you the body would be nowhere near. Outside, you find yourself in the thick of the capital.

Massive nouveau gothic structures rise up into the sky all around you. You likely know more about the history of the architecture than the people crowding the streets around, due to the research you did to prep for your mission. The people in question were all wrapped against the fierce wind being funneled through the mega-buildings. They people you see are likely lower-class. There's a clear divide between those who can afford to stay indoors, and those who must brave the elements.

This is not so different from where you come from.

You're in Teztel territory, to observe the growing relationship between the House and the warrior order known as the Knights of the Western Stars. Back home, there are scholars and history hobbyist who are obsessed with existence of psionic knights. You don't really see the appeal. The scholars thought the evolution of hyper-specialized warriors was fascinating. Not so much for the people who lived through the wars that led to their creation.

Despite your feelings, there was no denying psionic knights were unparalleled on the battlefield, save maybe against sorcerers. And Master Augustus of the Western Star order was a man who had lived almost a century of unceasing combat.

You brush past the masses that stream on either side of the mega-street. Ahead of you, the massive spires of the center of the capital rise up. You wrap the cloak that came with the body tightly around you and soldier on.

As you alter-self in Teztel space walked through the capital, your original body stretched its neck and prepared to open a new connection. Operating multiple alter-selves did not come naturally to most species in the galaxy. It certainly didn't come naturally to yours. But you had trained. This was a core part of your mission.

You split your mind a third time and initiated a new link.

The next alter-self came online moments later. You split your brain again, operating the three selves simultaneously. This one you paid to have situated near House Zion's robotics factories. The industrious House had begun building its ground forces.

House Zion was quickly spreading, and they were doing some using a unique combination of mercenary and manufactured infantry.

Their battle droids were already landing on several planets.

Warbots were also being produced. They were the first of their kind being built in the region since the fall of House Atractus. Such mechanical forces represented a rise in the complexity and power of the lesser Houses' forces.

With growing concern over the War between House Terra and House O'Rourik, Lord Albern has decreed that in order to defend House Dorn, that we take genetics into their own hands and create a new soldier, one that would fight with the savagery and loyalty of an animal, but with the mind of the military elite.

The fourth alter-self awoke in the capital of House Dorn. You were no-where near where you needed to go. The labs you sought were thousands of leagues underground.

Your mind drifted back to the netsphere hobbyists sitting comfortably several sectors away. They would often speculate with each other on the types of warfare practiced around Orion's Arm. Nevermind the culture, or the history, or the myriad of groups that had managed to survive and even thrive under the constant conflicts.

But no, you too, were here because of war. Because of things known as Deep Minds, and their inscrutable wisdom. Most war doctrine followed Conflict Scale theory. Infantry provided an incredibly valuable battlefield role inbetween nano-swarms and mecha on the Scale. There were a variety of ways you could fill the much-needed infantry role. You could recruit and train locally, which had an abundance of advantages. House Terra was known primarily for this, and had fielded thousands of soldiers and special forces drawn from their population in their conflict with House O'Rourik.

Or you could hire them. There was no shortage of mercenary groups headed for the Orion's Arm sector. They went were the work was. There were also those that built armies. House Delapierre and Zion were known to field mechanical soldiers.

The last option was to grow them. Troopers in test-tubes, grown to maturity in a matter of months and fed with a constant stream of hazy memories and battlefield-doctrine. House Dorn had taken this option, and had gone about it quite well.

Troopers were one thing, but if you didn't want to fill your armies with trained-infantry or grown soldiers, you could approach the third option: xeno-forms.

That's what House Dorn was creating now. These were creatures bred with a physiology and nervous system designed solely for war. Multiple arms and legs, razer sharp claws and teeth. Venom sacs and worse.

You ready your fourth alter-self and head into the maze of the House Dorn capital city. You needed to see for yourself what they made deep below.

Your fifth alter-self awakens in the Sol system. You're starting to feel the strain of operating the other puppet-bodies, but this is what you trained for.

If the stories are to be believed, this is where the sapien ancestors originated. You had come across plenty of scholarly speculation on the matter in your training, but had ignored most of it in favor of the history you felt was important. As it happened, most of the Houses in the sector picked and choosed the legends and traditions they felt were real.

House O'Rourik's armies, which is what you were chiefly concerned with, were made up of a combination of mercenary and local infantry. They were quickly branching out however, not only training special forces units, but also laying the groundwork for an order of psionic warriors to establish themselves.

Then there was the conflict in system two. It had lulled for the time being, but Ragar Fist, your superior, was impatient for status updates.

A letter to all Houses in Orion's Arm:

Dear ________________,

It has come to our attention that believers of Mother's Love have been attacked.

Many citizens of systems Ross 154 (15) and Altair (16) have recently turned to the faith, as is only expected of systems so close to our home at Gliese 674. Sadly we have to inform you that the joy for this development has been eclipsed by the horrors that have followed since. Our fellow believers' quiet and peaceful worship has been interrupted by a series of vicious attacks by the corrupt local governments. The faithful have been slain and taken prisoner by the thousands.

Those who pray to Mother's Love are guided to stay out of the issues of the outside world, but at the same time, we cannot just stand by and watch our fellow faithful suffer so horribly. We have been forced to leave our homes to take control of these systems. The faithful will be rescued, but we believe that we can also offer the unenlightened better living standards than the previous administration could.

These systems are not controlled by any current Houses, nor would we dream to have the audacity to suggest that they have anything to do with this cruel turn of events. All the same, the situation calls for us to stop accepting unauthorized signals and traffic to or from Ross 154 and Altair, even as we lay a formal claim to these systems. We ask for your understanding.

With respect and hopes of everlasting peace,

Lord Louhi, Head of House Louhi

Your alter-body here in House Volantia's territory was...quite a bit fancier. This one looked exactly like you. Well, the you that Lady Coletta and other high society members in the sector knew. You were meeting here her, after all.

But you were also present in this system for business. House Volantia was perhaps the most diverse army in the sector. They were training infantry, but had also taken steps to invite psionic warriors and sorcerers. It was unusual to see the two together. Knight Orders and Witch Cabals had historically been on opposite sides of many conflicts, and the few times they had come together was usually...not good. But there were noble witch cabals just like there were corrupt and bloodthirsty knightly orders. House Volantia would only recruit warriors they knew could work together.

Briefing in orbit of Centuris, on the transport "Undiluted Moonshine"

"Alright Boys, you heard the news, we are going to hit House Valasar again. they were and up and coming house until recently, before they unexpectedly dropped off the map. We have made a few inquiry's and probing attacks, but their security forces managed to rebuff our attempts to gather information on their activities, and we were force to withdraw with minimal resources gathered. follow up efforts proved equally futile, up until 'Mr Fist' managed to come through and provide information on what happened to them."

*click* video of lavish party, but most of the attendees are dead. the handful that are not are struggling to move their limbs, and/or are having convulsions.

"Apparently, an unknown party member pulled out and detonated a spice-bomb while in a tranced state, during a private party they were hosting. The effects were not pretty as you can see, and quite lethal. only six people attending the party survived more then and hour. only one continues to live to this day, to a definition of 'lived'"

*click* video switches to one of a hospital room, containing a single person. Rampant cancerous growths cover him, and he is clearly on heavily augmented life support.

"Dartanian Valasar, then the heir to the house, now the 'head' of it. from the reports, his DNA is a mess, and he has not regained consciousness since the incident. Given that the only other living member of the household is his 7 year old daughter, Vanessa Valasar, the house holds servants are desperately trying to keep him officially alive until she is old enough to take over, or from any other houses from learning of his state.
the goal in the attack is two fold. Give Dartanian his final rest, and acquire Vanessa alive and intact. With him dead, and her in our possession, Sir Terra will be able to declare himself her regent, the very thing the servants of house Valasar is trying to prevent, and arrange her Betrothal to his third son Rolance. He will of course take her name with the time comes to preserve the house, but his loyalty will always be to our house. Until both of them come of age, he will also be free to manage their assets as if his own.

The Plan is simple. the 1st and second units are to covertly infiltrate the Valasar compound and secure the target. 'Mr fist' has provided they codes to the backdoor he used to get us the footage from their security cameras, so you should have Realtime footage from it once you get on site. Once the target is secured, the 3rd unit along with Quick-butcher and wake will move to take the secure bunker Dartanian is being treated at, and succre him. once recording equipment is set up, permanently terminate him and evac. if access can not be gained, permission is granted to destroy the whole facility. We do not have a backdoor into the systems for the bunker, unfortunately. The infantry will be prepared for orbital drop and held on standby should you need them in an emergency, but hopefully you will not need to call on them.

Full briefings of the situation is on the tablets I have handed you, along with all the information we have on the compound and bunker. You will be develop your plans on route to the target, Additional and more up to date information will be available once you get to the system, and again once you reach the planet. Be prepared to adjust your plans in response to this additional information. Good hunting."

"How did he know these Materials would be here? Who leaves giant cubes of processed metal in hollowed out astaroids?!?"

"Jake, we arn't paid to thi'k. Jus' do as the boss man says and mov' them into the car'o hold."

Old netsphere historians and war-buffs liked the Orion Arm sector for its history. But there was also a large group who were fascinated with the region because of the current political climate.

Orion's Arms was an interesting case-study in Conflict Scale Theory. Most sectors prescribed to the theory in one form or another. The watered-down premise was that all conflict took place on four levels: The nano-level, the operational level, the inter-orbital level, and the orbital level.

During most battles in this day and age, opposing sides would wage battle on all four levels simultaneously. The nano-level was represented by the Nanite-swarms that would prowl the surface of planets. They were a terror to any non-combatant unlucky to be caught in their path. The operational level was represented by soldiers, and things that were roughly humanoid-size. Inter-orbital were the zero-g warframes and mobile-suits that would do battle around mega-structures. And orbital were warships. Massive, gigantic cruisers, frigates and battleships.

The Orion's Arm was unique in that several newly-sanctioned governments were established in the sector. So far, there had been no outside intervention (likely due to the surrounding presence of the Great Sector Houses.) This had seen the creation of armies from the ground-up.

Suddenly the theoretical question of what would happen if war was fought purely on one Scale Level was answered, and netsphere enthusiasts were fascinated. The Orion's Arm sector featured purely Operational and nanite-level combat. This was a temporary situation of course, it was only a matter of time before the first warframes and zero-g fighters came off the factory line. Soon there would fleets of ships to accompany them.

Your alter-self monitoring House Terra's activities was getting first-hand footage of operational-level warfare. Footage that others would kill to see. Only you and Ragar Fist would have access however.

House Terra's armies were numerous, and highly specialized. Recruited and trained from over four planets in system two, they were primarily broken up into two groups: those that served under Quick-Butcher and Wake, and those that didn't.

This was most obvious in the variety of special forces units that operated under House Terran's banner. Those that had followed the legendary Quick-Butcher into battle usually painted their armor red and trained even more than was usual for their profession. It was of minor interest to you, but you cataloged all the same.

Your alter-self was currently watching operational-level combat in the form of House Terra's infantry and special forces making planet-fall in system 3. House Valasar had all but abandoned its holdings here, and House Terra's soldiers moved quickly to sweep up what was left.

Sorry for late reply just been busy

Your mind was now split between many, many puppet bodies. You could feel your psyche straining, but kept it together with the strength of your training. Every fibre in your being screams for you to rip yourself from the interface. Instead, you booted up your puppet body in House Darkridge's territory. You had heard they'd been busy producing combat drones.

Do I pick a character?

Your last alter-self appeared in House Eire'Heart's territory. They had kept their business secret from prying eyes, but you were hoping to remedy that soon with one of your puppet bodies.

Lesser Houses Map
After sending the orders, Lord Delapierre put the sector map on the screen again. He didn't even have to move or say anything, his cyberimplants read his thoughts and started removing stars from the map. First stars with no planets disappered. Then those with no life supporting planets. Then those with no terraforming capabilities... In the end, 40 or so most important stars remained. He blinked, and posessions of Houses of Orion's Arm marked on the map. Near the sector's "north pole" stars were colored with House Zion hue. Near the center, flashpoints of House Terra- House O'Rourik tensions well, flashed. House Delapierre posessions turned to familiar green and on the other end of the sector, House Louhi colors claimed three systems. Three systems and they were isolationists mere cycles ago.
The cake was big, but it was already apparent that everyone thought their slice was way to small.

I've changed the markings systems to the one easier for me to use. I've assigned everyone their own color this time. Red are possesions of Minor Houses (i.e. Houses that either dropped explicitely from the game or became inactive). I don't know if House Falkenhausen possessions are still independent or are they already captured by one of Houses in the area.

Last Time, On Star Empires Quest...

The Lesser Houses race to expand their industries and wealth, while also building their forces...

Planet Belcroe, House Sundrii Territory

Representatives from the four major houses in the Orion Sector arrive on the intermediately-populated planet Belcroe, under the control of House Sundrii. The representatives wear all manner of elaborate robes and markings. They come off sleek, powerful ships and stream towards a central tower.

Inside the tower is a large chamber shielded from prying eyes and ears. The representatives from each house gather in a group, setting up holo-decks. Soon four projections flicker to life.

The heads of the four great Houses stare at each other's holographic form.

"How distasteful," The Lord of House Galafrey says.

The Lord of House Belconin grows cross. "Well it's not like any of us enjoy this gathering either,"

"And with that being said," The Lord of House Sundrii says. "Let us discuss what is to be done about the former House Atractus territories,"

The four lords are silent, clearly consulting their advisers. Lord Belconin is the first to focus on the other three. "I would think first we would need to know what we want from it,"

Lord Malafax shifts, his voice barely above a growl. "It was a great victory when Actractus fell. We all made attempts to take the territory, but all we did was seed it with greedy lesser houses,"

"I'll wipe them away myself," Lord Belconin says. "And we can start over,"

"If you move your forces into former House atractus territory," Lord Galafrey says. "Then I will oppose you with my own armies,"

"And if you enter that territory," Lord Malafax says, turning to Lord Galafrey's projection. "Then I will send my armies in to oppose you,"

"Yes yes," Lord Sundrii says, his cross voice cutting across the others. "It is clear none of us can send in our armies without provoking the others, and maybe someday it will come down to that, but I have a far better idea," The others glance at him, and he continues. "The only thing we've ever agreed on is the need for the fall of House Atractus. And now look! Our greatest antagonizer has completely collapsed in on itself. Our individual gambits to take its territory failed, so now I say we arm the house that persist and grow, and give rise to our new 5th house. Every noble in that territory owes its existence to us. Let us flood them with weapons and soldiers and watch them tear each other apart,"

"A rather foolish way to waste money," Lord Galafrey says.

"But worth a try," Lord Belconin concedes with a nod. "I'm certainly not above infusing my vassals with resources to kickstart a war,"

"We need a guarantee they'll shed blood," Lord Malafax says.

A small smile tugs at the corner of Lord Sundrii's mouth. "And we'll have that guarantee. We'll do to the former House Atractus territories what House Atractus would often do to us,"

The other lords are silent for a few moments, then one by one smile.

"Yes," Lord Malafax says. "If history is any guide, that will indeed work...."

Operating multiple alter-selves is a drain on your body. Inbetween your monitoring sessions you're forced to sleep in a nutrient sleeve. But in your small cylinder clinging to the shadows of an asteroid, you can't help but feel driven and energized everytime you hook yourself into the puppet interface.

Today would be no different. Your eyes open, heavy and dry. You slowly unzip the nutrient sleeve and extract yourself. You don't even bother wiping the gel off. You sit in your chair and attach the nodes, then press the button. The pain of the cognitive split barely elicits a scream.

You're channeling a one-being spy network through your mind

Your puppet body in House Tetzel's territory has been operating on autopilot. You slowly ease in and take over.

The system is abuzz with netsphere chatter. The signs of a recovering economy. You listen for a bit on your datapad, then head out into the busy streets of the House Teztel Throne World.

The nobles here continue to strengthen their ties to the psionic order the Knights of the Western Stars. Such a union between a House and a warrior band could prove problematic.

Like House Teztel, House Volantia was also strengthening ties to psionic knightly orders. Your alter-self in this territory observed vanguard infantry under the banner of the Teu'Tonic Order being trained.

What was the difference between regular infantry and vanguard you wondered? In response, your assistant A.I began feeding you training doctrine and equipment stats. The vanguard were indeed impressive, wholly dedicated to filling soldier roles for their warrior sects. No surprise with House Volantia, considering its history in the old noble traditions of their ancestor system.

Major Sadem looked at the recent reports from those biological wack jobs down at Sector 33 and he smiled, he sat down at his desk overlooking the map of Orion's Arm and with a wave of his hand opened his personal communications to Lord Dorn. "Yes Major what is it you are contacting me about?" it seems as though the Major had interrupted his Lords dinner "Apologies Lord Dorn, I am just contacting you with the confirmation from Sector 33 that the new specimen is already showing signs of progress at an alarming rate cutting the projected down two months from the original estimate" Lord Dorn smirked at this information "Good, tell the researchers that for this excellent show of work ethic I will see to procuring more diverse genetic material for their personal research" and with that Lord Dorn cut communications.

The alter-self in House Dorn's territory was witnessing impressive developments. The House's geneticists were busy growing troopers. And alongside those troopers, something, far, far more deadly: armored specimens hungering for battle. Only time would tell what this vat-grown army would conquer.

Troopers were of some interest to you however. You often wondered what was it like to sleep through a months-long childhood, with nothing but tube-fed dreams of battle-techniques and weapon maintenance. Troopers were often portrayed as mindless clones. But surely there was something more...

Nevermind that of course, the armored specimens that you recently catalogued would be an interesting support choice for the troopers. Their opponents would be taken by quite a bit of suprise.

A letter to all Houses in Orion's Arm:

Dear ________________,

It pains me to continue to need to send these letters, but reading reports from the sector makes it clear that the remnants of Great House Atractus are unable to live in peace with the faithful. This time, it is Delta Pavonis (28) whose leader chose to use force to seize assets from the new believers, using 'differences in religion' as a cowardly excuse for his actions. The harmless practicioners of Mother's Love have not, and will not ever provoke a need for such atrocities. It is directly forbidden in the doctrines of the faith, after all.

Thus, we of House Louhi have again had to abandon our peaceful prayer to go and neutralize the situation in Delta Pavonis (28). As before, until order has been restored, all unauthorized signals and traffic to Delta Pavonis will be turned away. We also officially claim the system, since none of the Lesser Houses have established a presence there. Thank you for your understanding in these troubled times.

With hopes for a better tomorrow,

Lord Louhi, Head of House Louhi

There were developments in House Louhi's territory as well. The Dakhra witch-sect had integrated seamlessly into the Louhi military command structure. And now your alter-self and its various monitor drones had recorded new ships arriving.

The Dakhra's history was long and complicated, and several sects existed. The one in House Louhi's territory was known for its warriors. But now a new sect was arriving: That of the Crones. These witches were far more powerful, and your intelligence teams supporting you back home predicated they'd soon be gathered in enough numbers to start accompany the regular Louhi military.

Like House Volantia and House Teztel, House O'Rourik hosted a knightly order in its territory as well. Their warriors were agile on the battlefield. Certainly not as powerful in psionics. But fast.

Even you, an operative with more concern for the people and culture of the system then its weapons, had to marvel at psionic warriors. There were many who carried blades on the battlefield. Some had shields, or fought in cramped quarters. Some had them for when they ran out of ammo. And some were simply fast enough to use them. But psionic warriors wielded them because it was they who controlled the battlefield, not the other way around. And often a special blade was the only way they could kill each other. The same was true for sorcerers, in their own way.

Reports has come in from the Expeditionary force to Gliese 440. Called Sundel by local inhabitants, the white dwarf is surprisingly home to vibrant communities, if small and backwater. The most major interest is a exotic material harvesting industry on the one terrestrial, barren planet (called Wolong), controlled by off-system mercantile entities. Other interest are the interplanetary equivalent of 'shantytowns', a set of jury-rigged habs built by a refugee from planet Kuntila several lightyears and another House teritory away. Last item of note, is the existence of spacehulk, a gigantic aggreation of space wreckage in system, nicknamed 'Genderuwo'. The locals are wary of said hulk, and for the most part leave it alone.

You alter-self in House Terang-Bulan's territory witnessed the construction of one of the first shipyards. On the Conflict Scale Theory scale, that meant the lesser houses were starting to approach real, full-scale warfare. Infantry, nano-swarms, zero-g warframes and battleships. You resisted feeling sorry for the denizens of the sector. War was war, no matter where you went. It was your job to ensure the whatever happened here didn't unfold like the Deep Minds feared it might.

According to your surveillance network you'd established here, House Terang-Bulan was also field-testing one of its new special forces units. There were also dissident elements in every system. Due to geography, House Terang-Bulan's local rebels were particularly...entrenched. The 1st Rangers had their work cut out for them.

Despite deep canyons and dangerous crags, your spider drones witnessed swift combat and brutal suppression on the part of the Rangers. Also in the reports sent to your superiors, you made note of a warrior of interest.

Mobile Armor. It was an impressive development. Now things were really starting to take shape. What was more worrying was the phantasm.

What used to be a sapien pilot was now a creature the size of a zero-g warframe. You were unfamiliar with the science behind it, nor did you care to familiarize yourself with it. It was the first of its kind, and so far, the most powerful weapon developed by a lesser house in the Orion's Arm territories.

"Robotics Facility is fully operational, my Lord. We have already uploaded the schematics we used in the Doctrinal War as well as new designs used by House Zion, which our datasurfers have acquired from netsphere."
"Excellent news doctor. When the first batch will be ready?
"The first batch is already ready. However to reach numbers required for independent operations we require another month or so. That includes both the Drones and the Warbots."
"Very well. Continue your work." Lord Paramount snapped his fingers and one screen turned off and another flashed to life.
"What's the situation in Luyten System?"
"Everything according to plan. We have successfully bought out local industries and are preparing for total control over system economy. The forces we have stationed here have proved useful for police duties, but we have overestimated local resistance to our rule. We would have secured the system even without any forces. Unfortunately I forsee this to be more of an exception than the rule and all our incursions into another systems should still be escorted by at least one unit."
"Thank you for your input Lord Governor. It will be noted. However I haven't assigned you men just for policing. If you do not need them for defence, there are other ways for them to serve the House, understand?"
Another snap and another screen turns on.
"Lord Admiral, prepare the ships, we have another expedition going."

Here were first generation House Delapierre Warbots. They were bulky and unwieldly, but with field-testing, would soon be among the most advanced of their kind. Of this you had no doubt. The lessers House was at the forfront of robotics after all. Not even House Zion, the only other producer of warbot units, had quite the array of tech packed into the House Delapierre varients.

All houses have been given 20 (r) from their patron Houses, under the stipulation that the recepients uses it to further their militaries, not for industry establishment.

Warning: Outside market forces are utilizing various economic means to severly depress the Orion's Arm local Markets. This is likely the doing of the Great Houses, as they share a netsphere with the former House Atractus territories.

Because of this, 1(r) is now produced for every two industries you own, and 1(r) is being earned for every two trade deals you have

All raid actions have earned 5(r) this turn

And in other news, conflict has reportedly sprung up in the Orion Sector between local goverments. We turn to our Orion specialist Craut Gahn for more, Craut, welcome to the program-

-Thank you Haz

-In an era that seems rife with a multitude of smaller conflicts, what can we expect from such an outbreak of violence, specially in this sector?

-Well Haz, what you have to understand is that the Orion sector is not structured like you or I might be familiar with. Some viewers may know that the Orion territory is home to what we would call g-modded or C-Cert based governments

-You mean the Orion sector is controlled by beings with tailored genes?

-Yes, but their genetic makeup is the basis for a caste-system of sorts, with those possessing certain genes holding authority

-Interesting, interesting, so Craut is this what they're fighting over? Viewers to this program are likely familiar with the C-cert riots in our own sector several years back

-Yes and no. C-Certs and genetic coding are in integral part of their culture, but the conflict itself is over resources and politics. The territory that's seeing the conflict has recently undergone a massive governmental collapse, which obviously would lead to chaos and violence. However, due to the complex power-structures present, neighboring Houses, or C-cert governments, quickly collected the territory under new, smaller C-cert governments.

-So what you're saying is, after the collapse, new governments were quickly established by outside forces?

-Almost overnight Haz, although "outside forces" is an incorrect term. You have to understand that the Orion sector not only shares a netsphere, but is relatively humongous in terms of the culture and species of the ruling class. They're almost all sapiens, and if you'll recall what I said about C-certs, trace their authority back hundreds of generations. And that's why we're already seeing conflict in the area.

-Interesting. Should we expect to be affected?

-Haha, no Haz. These are minor conflicts with minimal impact on the netsphere markets. However one must take the time to feel sympathy for the citizens caught in wars.

-Thank you. That was Craut Gahn on the recent Orion sector conflicts. Next up, are your alter-selves doing what they're supposed to, or has a new bug changed the way we multi-task?

VICTORIEN AUBINEAU

Last Time on Star Empires-

The creators of the lesser Houses, the Great Houses, have engineered a way to induce war using their economies. Several lesser Houses gather their forces and prepare to strike out...

Planet Hrarthgar, System 5, 5559 Universal Century

Amess stood hunched in the fields, guiding one of the many plowing drones with the other workers. The drones moved in straight lines along the rock-hard earth, digging up trenches that would later be used for planting.

On one side of the field was a large metal complex. On the other, distant rocky wasteland, and an even more distant mountain range. Amess glanced at the distant smudge of mountains as she corrected the drone's course. A horn blared from the complex, and she stopped.

Straightening up, Amess and the other workers looked towards the complex. Scores of children waited in the shade of the building. As the horn sounded, they ran out with bottles of water and rags.

Amess's daughter ran up to her, handing her a bottle and a cloth. Amess smiled as she took the bottle and drank, then handed it back to her daughter. "Thank you Hadi," Amess said.

"Muma," The girl said, craning her neck. "What are those?"

Amess shielded her eyes from the sun and looked up. Dark objects streaked through the sky. The complex horn sounded, signaling she should go back to work. Instead, she and the other workers continued to stare at the sky.

The objects grew closer and closer until they landed. The earth shook, and Amess grabbed her daughter. Dust clouds billowed across the fields, enveloping the plowing drones and the workers. Amess took her daughter by the hand and jogged towards the complex. "Come Hadi! Let's go!"

Her daughter Hadi slowed, pulling on her mother's hand. "Muma! Muma! I hear clicking! Like the summer bugs!"

"Nonsense Hadi," Amess said, pulling her daughter along. "It is the rocks that fell, they are causing earthquakes. I need to speak with the supervisor-" Amess paused, furrowing her brow. She heard the clicking too.

Amess slowly turned. The dust cloud was still thick, but now Amess could see shapes. Dozens of shapes, maybe more. The other workers still stood by their plow drones with their children. They were clearly trying to weather the dust cloud. Amess cupped her hands to her mouth. "JAUNA! ALEXCTA! GET OUT OF THERE!"

No sooner had the words left her mouth than hundreds of shapes emerged from the dust clouds. Strange creatures, with powerful-looking legs and deadly claws and teeth. They clicked loudly, then one of them reared back and let out a screech.

"Oh fuck Gods no," Amess breathed. She picked up Hadi and ran. The creatures screeched behind her and tore into the remaining workers, as well as the plow drones.

"MUMA!" Hadi screamed, struggling in Amess's grasp. The mother readjusted her grip and reached the complex, tugging on the door.

It was locked. She chanced a look behind her and spied the creatures sniffing at the air. "fuck fuck fuck," Amess said, tugging on the door. "Let me in let me in!"

There was no answer. Amess took her child and ran along the wall, hoping to go around the building. She could hear clicking again. The creatures were moving.

Amess heard the clicking grow closer as she neared the corner. Reaching it, she tripped on a dirt mound and fell down into a drainage ditch with Hadi. The woman hit her head and blacked out.

She came to with Hadi shaking her. "MUMA! MUMA!"

Amess opened her eyes and looked up. Around the drainage ditch were terrifying creatures. Sharp fangs and deep, piercing eyes. They clicked, pointing down into the ditch as if they were about to pounce. A radio squawked. Amess looked around, then spotted men appearing next to the monsters. The men wore armor and helmets, and peered down into the ditch. They all held rifles. One of them turned to another.

"What do you think captain, non-combatant?"

Hadi coughed, and Amess held her tightly. The woman didn't understand, why didn't the monsters attack the men with the guns?

"Leave them for the hunter-killers," The trooper captain said. "We need to move quickly, that defense grid's going to have our location soon,"

A roar picked up, and the ground shook. The troopers and hunter-killers flew about violently as the ditch around Amess and her daughter heaved upward. When the rocks and dust settled, Amess dragged herself up. Peering above the ditch, the woman looked around.

Massive robots approached in the distance. The robots flashed, then small black objects streaked through the air. Amess looked behind her and saw more troopers and monsters. She dove back down into the ditch and gripped Hadi. "Just close your eyes," Amess whispered. "We're going to survive this, just close your eyes,"

Hundreds of miles in the air, a trio of drones arc through the sky. Their feeds are linked directly to your mind through an alter-self. You're staring down directly at the surface of the planet Hrarthgar. Not that there's much to look at. It's red rocky waste interspaced by gorges and bland, white mega-fauna.

There are the two armies about to engage in combat of course. The A.I in the drones and your alter-self tag thousands of figures along the wastelands and underneath the mega-fauna.

House Dorn has somehow managed to deploy almost twenty-thousand hunter-killer bioforms, as well as twenty-thousand vat-grown soldiers on Hrarthgar. They're accompanied by larger, stranger creatures that you assume can tear a tank in half. Ragar Fist wants to know how the lesser Houses keep deploying armies without escorts or warships. You're tempted to tell him that sapiens are crazy, and they'll start a war with anything they have. But you know that's not an official answer.

House Dorn's target lie ahead, in the direction your drones are headed. A massive series of walls and towers appears, which you know to be a defense-grid.

Hrarthgar is a planet primarily under House Zion's control. The wealthy house has defenses mustered in the form of hundreds of Warbots and Tanks. Mercenary soldiers were also reportedly present.

"See those chassis?" A voice-link says, identifying the mobile armor on your drone screen. "Those are re-purposed, possibly reforged Tagga-V7 frames,"

It was Ace, one of your intel team operatives, speaking to you through a voice-link. You tell him you don't care.

"You should," Ace says, his voice crackling on the comms. "Those are top-of the line tanks, able to take a glancing phospho-shell and return fire. It also means the Ra'Mahns are supplying arms to the Orion sector,"

You begrudgingly make note of it in your report to Ragar Fist.

Ace highlights other areas of House Zion's forces on your drone screen. "And those Warbots? Custom Klem Gen-10's, and I can't even identify those launcher tubes. We're dealing with heavy hardware here,"

One of your drones blinks, highlighting several areas of the red wastelands. "We have contact!" Ace calls to his teams. You cut out his voice-link and focus on your drones.

House Zion's forces are concentrated around the defense grid sections hidden in the white, skeletal-like mega-fauna. The mega-fauna is concentrated around five gorges that contain industry spires and housing complexes.

They're vastly outnumbered compared to House Dorn's forces. Zion's six-thousand mercenary soldiers are spread out among the five gorges, supported by units of Warbots and mobile armor. Once the battle begins however, you realize that House Zion's firepower is tremendously superior.

Trooper 1015, Unit 7, House Dorn, shook as the hover truck zoomed across the red wastes. It kicked up dirt, along with the hundreds of other hover trucks that carried troopers.

Trooper 1015, or Long Fingers, or Fingers for short, glanced around at the other troopers riding with him. His squad consisted of such characters as 1011, and 1020. And how could Fingers forget Trooper 1021, the joker that kept the squad's spirit's high? The other troopers mostly stared down at their rifles held between their legs. They all sat in rows, swaying as the hover truck raced towards their target. Finger's squadmate's expression's were obscured by their bulbous helmets. No doubt though they were all steeling themselves for what lay ahead.

Fingers was ready. Not only did he have battle-stims pumping through him, but he recalled all the training-sims he got in the dream-sleep and afterwards. Fingers shifted his rifle, glancing along the barrel. It gleamed in the harsh light of the Hrarthgar sun.

A whistling sound started up, and Finger glanced up curiously. Moments later, the hover truck next to him exploded.

"GET DOWN!" One of Finger's squadmates shouted. Was it 1009? 1012? Fingers couldn't tell. A moment later, two more nearby hover-trucks exploded.

"The Defense Grid's got us!" Another trooper yelled. Fingers gripped his rifled and tried to crawl down to the floor like the others. More whistling sounded, then the ground in front of the truck lifted up. Fingers's world spun, then he hit the earth.

The battle-stims pumped through his body, forcing his eyes open. Fingers could hear a ringing in his ears as he struggled to his feet. His helmet was cracked, but he could still see. He looked around.

The earth heaved up all around him as explosive shells pounded into the ground. He bent down and grabbed his rifle, then searched for a squadmate.

Instead he only saw red dust, and distant explosions. Clicking started up. Fingers recognized it, it was the hunter-killer creatures. Normally they'd creep him out, but the battle-stims only made him anxious and eager to move. The trooper started jogging towards where his truck had been headed. A moment later, he's surrounded.

Hunter-killers surged past him, clicking to each other. They ignored Fingers, running ahead at an impossible speed. Fingers held his weapon to him as he doubled his pace.

Moments later, massive, giant creatures thundered past. Fingers was almost trampled, but managed to jump aside.

They were armored specimens, but new-t6ypes. Fingers had never seen these kinds before. They charged ahead, some of them exploding in a green goo as the defense grid found them.

Fingers was beginning to feel fatigue. He ran as fast as his legs would carry him, but even the exo-boots and his battle-stims had limits. The hunter-killers continued to stampede around him, all headed towards a large mountain of white mega-fauna. According to the pre-battle briefing Fingers had heard, beyond the mega-fauna was a gorge filled with enemy buildings.

He heard a noise, and the trooper turned his cracked helmet. Coming up on his right was a hover-truck. Fingers slowed down and waved, trying to get the driver's attention. The truck didn't slow, but a trooper leaned over and held out his hand. Fingers started running, then when the truck passed he jumped up and grabbed the hand. The trooper slowly pulled Fingers up and over the side.

When Fingers stood up, he saw he was back in the company of vat-grown soldiers. They all stared at him through their domes. Fingers rested against the truck edge, then nodded to the one who had pulled him up. "Thanks,"

"Sergeant 1540, Unit 3" A trooper said, saluting from where he sat.

"Thanks," Fingers said. "For picking me up. I'm 1015, Unit 7," Fingers straightened up and looked around. The hunter-killers ran alongside the hover-truck. Fingers could see other hover-trucks as well among the horde of bioforms. "What happened?" Fingers said, turning back to Sergeant 1540. "My truck was destroyed, the poppers didn't work!"

The sergeant chuckled, and some of the sitting troopers shifted. "They're using some kind of new kinetic round," Sergeant 1540 said, gesturing at his own squad's popper. The circular white device rested against a trooper. "The popper's will only protect us against explosive ordinances,"

Fingers stared ahead, watching as the horde and the hover-trucks neared the mega-fauna. Explosions to his left drew his attention. He spied a distant line of enemy warbots approaching. They flashed as they released hundreds of missiles at House's Dorn's forces.

"Shit!" Fingers yelled, gripping the side.

"Oh don't worry," Sergeant 1540 said. "I don't think those missiles are for us,"

The larger armored specimens peeled away from the horde and charged towards the Warbots. Explosions began to shake the ground. "But we need those things to help us attack the defense grid!" Fingers yelled over the sound of the explosions.

"We've got commandos!" Sergeant 1540 shouted back, an easy-going smile on his face. He gestured towards a distant group of hover-trucks. "We'll be fine!"

Fingers couldn't do anything but settle down into an empty spot on the truck bench. The other troopers regarded him for a few moments, then went back to staring at their weapons. As for Fingers, he watched in the distance as the armored specimens and warbots engaged. Deep, thunderous bangs echoed across the wastes. Fingers glanced back ahead and spotted a figure running among the horde of hunter-killers.

"Sir!" Fingers yelled, pointing at the figure. "There's someone else out there!"

The sergeant peered ahead, also spotting the figure. A low whistle sounded through his helmet. "Whoever that is, is running as fast as those hunter-killers!"

"Should we pick them up?" Fingers said.

The sergeant dismissed the question with a wave. "Doesn't look like they need a ride," The white mega-fauna grew closer, and suddenly the hover-truck slowed. "Alright!" The sergeant yelled. "This is our stop! Let's go Let's go!"

The hover-truck stopped, the back and sides flattening. The troopers leapt out, and the air filled with the sounds of whistling.

"That's the defense grid!" The sergeant yelled. "Get moving! The hunter-killer's are leading the way!"

It was true. The thousands of hunter-killers were already pulling ahead, barreling straight for the mega-fauna. Fingers and the other troopers charged ahead. Flashes appeared at the base of the mega-fauna.

"Keep moving!" The sergeant yelled. "That's enemy armor!"

It was true. Fingers watched as House Zion's tanks shredded row after row of hunter-killers. It looked like a slaughter, but Fingers continued running with the other troopers.

The tanks began zeroing in on the trooper's as well. Before they could begin firing, House Dorn commandos assaulted the tank position.

"That's our opening!" The sergeant yelled over the sound of explosions. "While the commandos engage the armor! Charge troopers, charge!"

Fingers gripped his rifle and lumbered forward. Lasers whipped all around him. The earth shook and screeches filled the air. Fingers tripped and climbed over the un-even earth, finally reaching the base of the mega-fauna. The white, massive skeletal blooms towered over him. At the base, House Zion mercenary soldiers held defensive positions alongside the tanks. The hunter-killers streamed towards the defensive position, as did House Dorn troopers. Fingers took a deep breath, then charged as well.

He paused several times to fire his laser-rifle. He wasn't sure if he hit anything, but Fingers continued on regardless. Troopers and hunter-killers were cut down around him as House Zion's mercenaries and tanks held the defense grid. Fingers was hit several times, first by a slugger round in the leg, then by a pierce-bolt in the stomach. Fingers stabbed himself with two more rounds of battle-stims and kept charging.

Finally, a burner-slug took out Finger's legs. He stumbled forward, sliding across the red earth. An open, blue sky stared down at him as Fingers looked up. The sounds of battle roared around him, but the trooper couldn't feel his legs. A shadow fell over him, and Fingers grunted. His cracked helmet was too dirty now. He took it off, then looked up.

A figure looked back down. Fingers recognized it. It was the same figure that he had seen running alongside the hunter-killers. "w-water," He said.

The figure said nothing. Fingers gestured towards the water-gel pack affixed to his belt. The figure looked at Fingers, then the gel pack. It moved in a blur, and suddenly the gel-pack hovered above Finger's lips. He managed to reach up and twist the top, then drank greedily. "T-thank you," He said, finishing. The figure dropped the gel-pack. "What are you?"

The figure didn't answer, then glanced ahead at the House Zion defensive positions. It crouched, then sprinted on ahead.

Fingers watched it go, then slowly rested his head back on the earth. The battle continued to rage around him.

The Battle on Planet Hrathgar lasted three hours. House Dorn lost two units of hunter-killers, one unit of Commandos, two units of troopers, and ne unit of armored specimen. One unit of Hunter Killers and Troopers remain, and have retreated to regroup.

House Zion lost one unit of mercenary soldiers, one unit of mobile armor, and one unit of warbots. Their defense grid is currently operational and undamaged.

Hero Identified: Perfect Specimen #2, House Dorn

System 5's Planet Keppa raid resulted in no losses for House Zion, and two units of troopers lost for House Dorn.

When I walked into the room, the solider was visibly startled. He had obviously not expected that it would be the head of the Terra Special forces to be the one who requested this meeting. "Calm down, you are not in trouble at all. We just spotted something unusually during the battle footage, and you were the closest person to it. I simply wish to ask some questions about the battle." A truth by omission, as he was the unusual thing we spotted in the battle, but he did not need to know this. we would have not spotted it without foreknowledge, or even be able to perceive what happened.

"Ahh, Yes Sir.. As.. Ask away" Still nervous, I see... Best to keep this professional. I begin going through the list of questions I prepared before hand. the next 30 minutes were incredibly boring, asking about the most minute details of the battle, But we did not have the exact time when it would happen. I was almost to the end of the list and out of time to stall then I noticed the flickering glow in the back of his eyes..

"Ah, about time.. Inform Mr Fist that all is going to plan and we will be moving on the target shortly."

"What?" the solders startles from the unexpected line, the glow immediately flickering out of his eyes.

"Sorry, My mind wandered. forget what I just said.." he pauses then shakes his head, nodding to me to continue the questioning. Good. It takes another 5 minutes to finish the questioning, and the man was dismissed. I doubt he suspects anything, and the soilders HUD's will be modified within the month to pass messages without having to schedule another meeting.

going to wait out doing anything on the income issues, as I'm more of a raiding-derived economy. but if it proves effective I'll join next turn. (and OOC reasons, I don't have any spare r's to spare, catching up from the missed turn) (EDIT: though if it costs me nothing R's wise, sure I am in).

@Chopak @Star also.. starting next turn, House Terra's shipyard will be open to use by trade pact members, for a fee. 1/6th of the cost of the ship to be made, rounded down (1r for Z-G fighters, 2r for escorts, 3r for warships, ect…) Alternative means of payment will be accepted.

Industral productions in your systems is solely in an effort to establish a succure communication network between us. Encrypted communication channels will be freely available shortly afterword for inter-pact use.[/spoiler]

"I know, but.."
"NO BUTS! Show of strength! NOW!"
"Y-y-es, my Lord."

Lord Paramount Delapierre clenched his fists when connection ended. Why did he agreed to that deal. He would have defeated Unspeakable Houses without external help and nobody would tell him what to do. But on the other hand, his Patron was right. He needed to strike now. He had a target for some time. He played the recording in his mind:

Normal human would not be able to hear that from that distance. Bioenhanced individuals would have problems catching that in the noise and chatter of the party. But House Delapierre augmentations were better than gene-tampering. They not only allowed House Lord to hear the insult. They enabled him to hear it, record it, locate the speaker and finally search the netsphere for the individual in question.
Lady Coletta.
Information was scarce, but everything was pointing to her relations with House Volantia. And so House Volantia will pay for her words.

House Gennete-Raziya
[X] Build
-[X] Xenological growth chambers for the Lalande Tigerhorse. The Tigerhorse is a grand feat of artificial selection and genetic engineering transforming original liveforms imported from outside Lalande into species adapted to niches in habitats around a Red Dwarf. Originally breed for an omnivorous ability to eat everything from organic waste to asteroid minerals and survive alongside humans to provide companionship, build symbiotic relationships with human immune systems, hunt vermin and pests, and cheaply regulate many aspects of the man-made eosystems of the colonists'. The Tigerhorse later became industrially exploited on a vast scale for their internal chemical processes and their energy and technology cheap workpower. The foundation of the House of Gennete-Razyia was the quite literal crossing of genetic resources and breeding lines between the famed Gennete School's pedigree stocks of Old Colony Tigerhorse and the Raziya Corporation's patented dynasties of Hellhorsetm to create a Tigerhorse with the original intelligence and versatility of their ancestors and the fire-breathing, acid-spitting, gumption of a modern unit.
-[X] the Gennete-Raziya Riding Academy, the source of Tigerhorse-handlers across Orion's Arm. Primarily trained for industrial niches, they can also be say unleashed on unsuspected starships of rival enterprises to eat their way into leaving the poor vessel sufficiently void of human live to began the technically legal wrecking and salvage and destruction of your nemesis' empire.

House Gennete-Razyia has been given 20 (r) from its patron house

Market Tariffs were attempted, but the index is in flux and outside industries are resisting. Players who attempted but rolled below a 10 may roll 1d20 again for 5 (r). Players who rolled above a 10 have successfully enacted tariffs, but they will fail in time without the other Houses who attempted doing the same

Warning: Outside market forces are utilizing various economic means to severely depress the Orion's Arm local Markets. This is likely the doing of the Great Houses, as they share a netsphere with the former House Atractus territories.

Because of this, 1(r) is now produced for every two industries you own, and 1(r) is being earned for every two trade deals you have

The Great Houses have promised their vassal houses bounties for raiding enemy lesser houses

Turn 9 (part 1)
Guys I apologize I'm been having trouble finding the time to sit down and go through about 5 pages of posts and suggestions, but I don't want to hold up all the ready players, so I'm going to invoke the multiciv QM copout clause and post a barebones update. This will buy me some time and keep the game momentum going.

Some notes though since I'm not addressing much-needed issues.

-All members of the local Netsphere are exempt from the Industry depression (r) rates, aka, your industry produces the (r) its supposed to, along with trade deals

-I believe House Louhi was the only one doing raids this turn. Correct me if I'm wrong. Since I haven't had time to really sit down and look at forces, I'm saying no-one lost any forces this turn, nor did they lose income on raiding. House Louhi, I'm giving your 40 (r) for your raids, as they are now proportional to size sent, but I haven't had time to calculate it due to volume. I feel this is a good compromise (copout, I know, trust me)

New Houses this get a bonus 20(r)

Let me know if I missed anything, especially raids. Next update will return to hero action lore.

House Terra wishes to formally invite you to the Trade pact we are currently in. currently we have 4 members, you will bring it up to 5 for an even 4r a turn (2r in current market conditions)

@Lop I'll go with the raid getting nothing for now. not that big of a deal, it had horrible rolls.

History of Founding:

From Reports on System 10:

"Sir, we have received the latest reports form the remaining Troopers about the operation" Major Sadem flinched at the voice of his "assistant" and representative of the Spire of Mutation, Chaplin Horus, one of those dammed Witches, normally Sadem would not care that he had to work with one of the newest part of House Dorn. But Chaplin Horus is not like the rest of his order, while they are quite and unnerving to look at with their unnatural bodies, Chaplin Horus is loud and at first glance looks like a average man. The keywords being at first glance, the more time that Sadem has spent around Horus the more unnatural the smaller man feels. The Major shakes off these feelings "thank you Horus, leave them on my desk and prepare those who your order has decided to send to battle" the smaller man bows slightly and begins to make his way out of the major office, but stops suddenly "will THEY be there?" the major had hoped that this would not come up. "yes they will" as soon as the word left his mouth, Chaplin Horus truns around with the largest smile the major has ever seen. "Very gOOd, we have been Wating sO LOng to see them in peRson" the Chaplins voice seemed to becoming higher and lower at different intervals, like he was speaking with a different tone. And with that the Chaplin left the office.
