I really don't want to worsen our Dread damage, as only 3 points separate us from madness. With cleaning ourselves, all it takes for a game over is a 1 or 2 on a Dread Resist Roll. Also, the job seems routine enough for paying rent on time to be almost certain.
Overall, this plan focuses on getting some mystical power. You accept the job, with a hefty contract on the insistence of the negotiating union that says, among other things, that this is a one-time job. Losing a future potential customer is a bit annoying, but being labelled a scab by the Minor Exorcists' Association would be worse.
The warehouse manager comes in after the contract is signed, and gives you a handdrawn map to the warehouse and a short rundown of what to expect. This is a very routine job; the slaughterhouse is just outside of town. They practice the best animal care and painless killing techniques to minimize spirit formation, but nevertheless sheer volume gets weak spirits forming about once a month. It's been an extra week due to the drawn-out negotiations, but the manager assures you it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Forms taken before include giant animals, species hybrids (usually sheep-cow, pig-cow, or sheep-pig), or formless poltergeists. None of them have posed a special danger to staff or equipment, but can disturb sensitive animals during the slaughter process... which adds to the spirit's strength, which then distresses more animals, and so on.
The pay is actually slightly greater than what the advertisement offered, and you ask about it. The manager confesses that's a reimbursement for new clothes. Whatever you take will come away smelling... worse for wear, he says.
Good to know. You'll leave your habit at home and bring some of your most-used clothes, you suppose.

You pay a visit to the Meyers' home, and while surprised to see you, you explain that you wished for their advice on the watch they'd used to pay you. You show them the hidden lock, and they're instantly intrigued. They invite you in for tea, and while you enjoy a cup (it's been made quite well), they poke and prod, trying different combinations.
Two cups later, you hear a click. "Got it!" one of the sisters exclaims. "It was his favorite symphonies." They hand you the locket and scribble down the combination as you carefully open the mechanism.
Inside is a faded daguerrotype, of what you presume is Meyers and a woman who-- you glance up at the Meyers sisters-- is definitely not their mother. Too young. As well as a note. Carefully unfolding it, you read a small essay on the beauties of clockwork. On the back of the note is a small poem, comparing the circles of gears to the circles of life.
The Meyers sisters peer at you eagerly from behind their cups and saucers. This is no doubt a valuable piece of their father's life and legacy-- but is it one they want to know?

You secure the name of the previous owner from the curiosities dealer: Zumwald. At the library, you pore through the newspaper archives, and soon find several articles. First, a short notice on the auction of the estate, from two weeks ago. Then, a larger article from several months prior about a criminal verdict.
The Zumwalds were apparently a happy family of three until one night a couple years ago, Mr. Zumwald killed Mrs. Zumwald and baby Zumwald. The case against him has recently concluded in a guilty verdict, and a lifetime stay in Zurich canton's prison. The details of the case have largely been kept from the public, but bits and pieces allege to some sort of religious killing. There are mentions of a "ritual," but that's it. You're left with almost as many questions as before you started your investigation.
Due to your time in the library, your investigation has proceeded quickly. You will be able to complete this action this week.

Now while we could go do our job with research in hand and professionalism abound... this isn't a contract job. This is a one-off job, that is notably easy and we don't need to care about the details of how it gets done. Why not have some fun with it? Let's do some guilt free ghost punching! We can save the mysticism for more complicated jobs.
As for the rattle and watch? I agree with Zephyr's logic, and I always love to fuel the narrative. Telling the sisters the truth and arranging a prison visit seem like the best ways to do that.
