Spirit Master Quest

You hold your hands out in front you, focus on the monkey and start chanting.

"With these hands, I reach out towards enlightenment,"
The hell are ya doin, ya crazy human!?
"With these eyes, I see the truth of the world,"
What's wit your eyes!? Why da ya got three!?
"With these ears, I hear the hearts of all creatures,"
Ya say that, but ya ain't listenin ta me!!
"With this mind, I acknowledge you as my equal,"
I don' wanna be your equal! I wanna be free!
"With this heart, I embrace you as my brother,"
Kid, really, stop. Please?
"With this soul, I know we are the same,"
Ugh... What's this feeling? Is that...you?
"With these words, I bridge the gap,"
Geez, if you're gonna be like that...I guess I'll go along with it.
"And with this, we two are are bonded as one!"
And with this, we two are bonded as one
!

Why did we mindrape the monkey?

[x] The Forest

Why did we mindrape the monkey?
It is a magic ritual used to absorb spirits so that you can take their power as your own. Mindrape does happen, and it isn't always the 'bad guys' who do it. In this case, which is really rare, the monkey decided to complete the ritual with you.

What's happening here is, Carver is sharing his thoughts/emotions/memories/etc with the monkey as part of the ritual. The chant says 'I know we are the same'. That isn't fancy words, if you're going to 'bond' with a spirit, you're basically fusing your soul with it. The monkey has a change in attitude, because after that point in the ritual he knows everything that makes Carver himself, because from the monkey's pov, he's experienced every bit of Carver's life himself.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly, but by the second to last line the monkey had realized he wouldn't win a battle of wills, and so he decided to help the mc out, since he could empathize with him. (Spirits aiding you makes the ritual less taxing, gets you better bonuses, and helps you learn to use your abilities faster. It also allows use of a nifty little trick farther down the line)

E: Outta curiosity, did you find the rest of the invisitext?

I see. At first, it had looked like we forced our mind into the monkey's, making it help us with the ritual, but now I understand what happened, I think.

Yeah.

Dreaming About Wood
There are trees everywhere, every single one of them glowing with a faint light.
Well yeah, that's what forests are like if ya look close enough.
You have no idea where you are, you think as you look around for familiar landmarks, only now noticing the mist that permeates the forest.
Well, someone's observant.
There's a loud screeching sound from somewhere up ahead, you aren't sure what made it. You think it was a bird, or maybe a monkey?
That was not a monkey
You walk forward, into the brush to investigate. You flinch as your tail catches on some thorns, but keep going.
Umm, why are ya walking towards the scary noise?
You start running. You cover your face as you burst into a clearing, and stumble back as you see a giant bird with nine heads snap at an injured dragon-deer-thing.
Those guys are waaaaay out of our league, we should probably leave.

What do?
[] Leave before they notice you.
[] Watch and see what happens.
[] Help the bird
[] Help the deer-thing
[] Help the deer-thing, then kill it while it's tired.

[X] Watch and see what happens.

If we do decide to run, I'd want to do so when all the bird heads are occupied. Also, looks kind of interesting.

[X] Watch and see what happens.

The bird was in Journey to the West.
They whupped Sun Wukong until he got reinforcements

The Forest Fiasco
You stay where you are, content to watch the creatures battle.
If you ain't gonna help one of em out, why're ya sticking round to rubberneck?
The bird dives forward, catching the deer with two of its beaks, and then retreating quickly when the deer starts breathing blue fire on it.
Deer? That's a Qilin, dumbass.
The bird screeches and returns fire, breathing a red stream of flames from each of its mouths, when they hit the de- Quilin's flames, they explode bathing both creatures, and you, in a purple wave of fire.
Shit, that's gonna hurt.
It doesn't burn you. It stings really badly, like getting salt in a cut, except all over your body, but nothing burns. You fall to your knees, head pounding from the pain.
GAGGGH! It might not burn you, but it sure as hell is burnin me!
From the corner of your eye, you think you see the bird retreat, it looks like it took a lot more damage from that blast than the Qilin did. The bird screeches, before flying away with a single flap if its wings. The wind storm it kicked up sends you flying through the forest, but for an instant as you're blown away, you make eye contact with the Qilin. It cocks its head. Then your back slams into a tree and you black out.
Geh... This shit still burns ya know, and I can't stop it. Could ya maybe help me out?

Do you help the monkey?
[] Yes
[] No

If so, how?
[] Split the flames, you'll take blue, he takes red.
[] Split the flames, you'll take red, he takes blue.
[] Split the flames, you'll each get half the purple fire.
[] Take all the flames yourself.
