Space Station Shock - Survive. (Original Sci-Fi/Horror setting)

[X] You have muscles for a reason. Brute force should work.

[X] A 3D-Flash Forger. It's not a deadly thing, but it opens up to potentialities. If you don't get eaten in the meantime, of course.

[X] A marine in charge of protecting the Space Station.

[X] Space Station Ticonderoga

[X] Francis Gallant

Make our own melee weapons, have two Strength to use them, and have one Smart to help gain initiative in battle. I also like the idea of someone called Gallant being in a horror movie scenario.

Prologue: Sole Survivor?
Prologue: Sole Survivor?

There should be a panel accessible from within the Cryo-Pod. It should work; there are still flickers of energy in the pod, you have been recently thawed. Your mind is settled. Your name flickers into the front of your memory as your instincts kick in.

Jack.

Your fingers have faint traces of frostbite at their tips, but not for long. The thawing process is complete, your heart drums in your chest, painful gasps of air leave your lungs as you look at the small, blocky thing on your end. There's a protective cover to unseal with your fingernails, and then a small set of buttons to push in case the thawing process needs to be completed before fully releasing you.

There is nothing more to be done in your case. You go ahead and push the small button in the lower corner, it yields to you and with a soft hiss, the glass panel slides to the side.

You know something's out there, busy with other stuff, but not for long. Past your heartbeat, you take in the stifling smell of rancid air, and the temperature way below average that surrounds you. This isn't up to norms.

Something must be wrong with the life support system.

That comes later, your breath steadies as you pull yourself out of the pod, your legs giving way under you as it's been technically decades, perhaps more, since you were last unfrozen. You remember your assignment.

Monkey Wrench. It's not the actual job posting, but it's what you and the others were called. Nimble, heading for the hardware failures, attempting to reconnect wires and solder together bits and pieces. Avoiding debris during space-walks. That kind of stuff.

You hear the scuttling of something at the far end of the Cryo-Bay, past rows and rows of others like you, some frozen still in wait of thawing, others having been pulled out by something which ripped the glass cleanly off the hinges, leaving behind smatterings of blood and scraps of flesh and cloth.

Whatever it was, it had to be strong to do that.

There's one thing you wish for, though.

A 3D Flash-Forger.

It's standard issue for when you're meant to repair things at the far corners of the stations. There are bottles or even crates of ooze-plastics placed at regular intervals all over the Space Station for when there's a need for some component to fix, repair, or even craft stuff.

You don't have one on yourself right now, but it shouldn't be too far. Every area should have its own, and while the thawing has played some tricks on your mind -what's your surname anyway?- you still can vaguely recall where they can be found. Close to the exits/entrances.

That brings another thing to mind.

Your Space Station. Space Station Thirteen.

Headed off to explore the vastness of space; leaving behind buoys to keep in contact with the colonies; a self-sufficient ecosystem with the purpose of finding alien life, studying the cosmos and much more. A veritable Arcology, an asteroid-sized engineering project that took decades to complete.

In theory, self-sufficient up to a population of three point five million.

You hear the snapping and suckling from the far end of the Cryo-Bay once more. It's not getting closer, but whatever it is, it's biting hard on something that makes the strangest, most squelch-like sound you've ever heard.

You think it could be flesh.

The trail of blood beneath your Cryo-Pod seems to lead in that direction.

You catch your breath. You have decisions to take. The walkway beneath your feet has a slight haze rising from it; the temperature difference creates humidity. Something must clearly be wrong with the local Life Support system. It needs investigation; if it's failed, then you don't have long anyway.

I'm thinking of spying our enemy and then try to find some sort of item that we can use to defend ourselves.

As for the minutes-long actions...Hmm I guess it would be a good idea to check on the Security terminal or Cryo-Bay control room?

I'm not really sure what we should do here except for ensuring our own safety and checking if there is anyone left alive other than us. We might even get an ally amongst our frozen fellows here!

Doubt we're in a position to save/release the others that are still in Cryo sleep - but it bears thinking about.

And if I'm reading this correctly, then the walkway/metal is noticeably warmer than the surrounding air? That's... odd, to put it mildly. Certainly something that I wouldn't attribute to just life support being down.

Now, is the seek a tool option applicable to the forger, or are we going to automatically grab it when we leave the room and this is an option for something in addition?

Alright these are my choices! It looks good enough for now at least.

[X] Spy surroundings (Try to see if the monsters are still near your location, but don't let yourself be seen or heard)
[X] Seek a specific Item or Tool (A wrench preferably. You feel some sort of Déjà Vu when you grasp that specific tool)

[X] Try to see if you can release one of the frozen occupants in an undamaged Cryo-Pod. If you can't do it then start heading towards the exit away from the blood trail.

P.S.

I just wanted to add that link due to the significance of the name Jack. I'll just remove it later if it's not allowed...

Some things we might conclude / infer:

1) We are in this thing's feeding grounds - with there being some pods broken into, and others still intact, this cryo room is basically a freezer full of ready made meals
2) Security: either that thing is security, or Security is dead / defunct - whether security is man or machine, it presumably would have been summoned when this thing broke into the other cryopods, and given that this thing is still kicking... (as such I think checking the security terminals is better left until we're out of immediate danger)
3) While it seems likely that our savior is deceased, we don't know for certain - it could be that they are still alive, and this thing is feasting on the remnants of a meal it already started. Obviously, the value of having someone that actually knows what the fuck is going on cannot be understated - at the same time, they clearly weren't capable (or at least successful) of combating this thing.

Oh so it's better if we check up on the Security terminal then to see if we can look into the Cameras! Maybe we could observe the murderous alien creature from them?

And it seems like our best bet for now it to make sure that our character is getting out of the immediate location while searching for valuable tools to bring. We could also check up on the Cryo-Room too see what is wrong with the atmosphere and see if the remaining occupants are still alive.

I have a feeling the thaw process makes a lot of noise, which might be how our savior's face got eaten.

@shadenight123 how's our visibility situation? Are there lights on? Is it too dark and we need to look for a flashlight/low-light goggles?

I thought we already were going to get the flash forger?

Doubt it.

Don't think I've ever seen it portrayed that way in any media.

Most likely is that the system issued an alarm/isn't very quiet when informing that security is being called... which might also be how this thing was alerted to their presence in the first place, if whatever acted as security has now become this thing and still reacts to hails from the ship.

Just not to, ya know, help.
