Song of the Dragon (ASOIAF/WOT Quest)

So no balefire. Can we get control of natural powers? Such as creating earthquakes or storms? This is an excellent way to demonstrate our power and thearten enemy armies, and Rand did both very early, as well as working really well with our high raw power. I guess shielding channelers is also too complicated

While those feats are impressive, I don't think they are as useful as the offered votes. Earthquakes and storms have limited day to day use. Especially since Aenar probably wouldn't yet have the precision to make sure only enemies were affected.

Otherwise, folded light is probably our best bet. It will allow us to make ourselves or others invisible and hide other stuff as well, which is really useful and works real well with glamour. Or maybe hardened air. Excellent utility, defense and offense-we can use it to create walls, stop arrows or just stop people in their track.

Invisibility is pretty broken, but that choice kind of stacks with the previous Glamour vote. Would make more sense to focus our OP abilities towards things that we cannot already do with ASOIAF magic.

It doesn't work like that. The effect is temporary.

Some compulsion is permanent. Though admittedly this kind of trick is unlikely to be.

However it probably doesn't have to be permanent. Without reason to suspect that Aenar used a mind-whammy, most people would probably just maintain course. Unless it was extremely important or something, in which case this trick probably wouldn't even work.

When it comes to this, I would say that there are two potential negatives that come to mind.

First is the risk. Mind control is scary as fuck. In WoT, it was viewed as the ultimately evil, because the Aes Sedai knew that if they were ever caught using it, the rest of the world would basically unite to wipe them out. The same will likely apply here. If it comes out that Aenar is going around mindcontrolling people, the consequences would be pretty disastrous. We could probably kiss all our allies goodbye, since they could well assume that they were mind-controlled into joining Aenar, and no one would trust us enough to even meet with us in person after that.

The second is that when it really matters, ta'veren effect might duplicate the compelling speech thing anyway.

Even if the effect is temporary doesn't necessarily mean what is done during the duration goes away.

In Book 2, The Great Hunt, Liandrin of the Black Ajah uses her own similar trick to convince a noble woman that her brother was a Dark friend. And she remained convinced long after the weave was used, to the point that she was blackmailed into helping that very Black Sister.

So... depending on how Maz sets up the weave, even if we can only use it for limited periods or on single targets the potential to solidly plant ideas, rumors, etc in the minds of those we use it one is still there imo. Even if it is just a Wilder Trick

Healing? Being used to harm someone? Not just a political tool.
Almost sounds pretty familiar...huh....

Nah I'm not petty. Glamour was a good choice. Though, it seems we're leaning in a little bit too much with the intrigue/spy things. Aenyr has made it clear the kind of person he is, a more forward out there person. He's subject to change, of course, since he's still just a teenager, but I can't imagine him being too...prudent in matters of stealth.

Limited day to day use, but the existence of those abilities make Aenar extremely intimidating, which makes it much harder to get people to fight him and much easier to ally with him. It is much harder to act against some blackfyre pretender than against a sorcerer who can call storms or make the earth tremble under your army

That reminds me of a certain quote,
"There is no shame in deterrence. Having a weapon is very different from actually using it,"
I doubt many people anywhere in the world would want to knowingly fight someone that can make tsunamis or earthquakes, or any natural disaster. They may call the Khaleesi 'Stormborn' but what does that matter when we can actually birth a storm? Massive unstable attacks may not have the finesse or nuance of some abilities, but remember the words of the house

"Fire and blood."

If someone's going against Aenar, then alot of blood is going to be shed, and it's definitely not his. It's a political tool as well, same as healing. Just on the opposite scale. Bribe them with curing their disease, or threaten them with destroying their lands. It all comes down to a similar path.

No, we aren't leaning too much into intrigue. This is just the char gen so far. And we want to go into intrigue a fair bit.

They are scary powers for sure and would deter someone from going against Aenar but if they believe that they can get close to Aenar and kill him? They would go for it. Storms and earthquakes aren't exactly great when it comes to 1v1 combat. Would it get him allies? Sure. A big showing of power would be good for his rep.

[X] Teleportation
Allows channeler to travel through spirit world to the places where spirit veil is weakened.
Example: places with high number of deaths, mass sacrifice, Harrenhall, etc.
Restrictions: Can get caught by spirits or gods when teleporting in places of their power, can't teleport to/from places where spirit veil is stable or reinforced ( The Wall )

Not going to happen lol.

Well nothing's really happened yet, but our starting choices give impact to the character for the rest of their lifespan. Just wondering, and thinking we should lean into more different options of magic instead of focusing on stealth things. But maybe not. I'm thinking that the spy thing would conflict with what I've seen of Aenar.

Not going to happen lol.
Let the man dream.

I keep imagining the game Divinity: Dragon Commander when I read this.

You play as a literal big dragon king with a jetpack in a steampunk setting with that game.

I know that is not what this quest is going for, but it shares the parallel of a half-dragon becomming a king.

Wheel of time dragon is not an actual dragon though. It's a title, stemming from myths of dragons in WOT world, and has no connection to actual dragons. Wheel of time dragon is stronger than any ASOIAF dragon and dragons in most settings

I remember reading that Rand and co didnt know what the beast on the Dragon Banner actually was until late in the series.

That's the case in WoT, but this is an ASOIAF crossover. It's not impossible that some connection to actual dragons exists.
