Slay the Princess (or don't- she wouldn't appreciate that)

Deep within the woods there is a cabin.

Within that cabin is a Princess.

You must slay the Princess or the World will end.

To be fair to your mission she is indeed a very suspicious Princess, but everything about this situation is suspicious. How could a single young woman end the world? Why would a single young woman end the world? What reason could there be for the Narrator (he's a character too- roll with it) to refuse to give any specifics of the threat she poses?

Choices will be made, consequences felt, and within this cabin destiny will be forged. Welcome to Slay the Princess.

Ok, enough set dressing. I'll give a less flowery description of what Slay the Princess is. StP is a horror and dating sim (yes really) visual novel created by Black Tabby Games where you wrestle with the decision to commit regicide- and not the cool kind of regicide, she doesn't seem to rule anything. I can say without hesitation that it is genuinely one of the best games I have ever played. The compellingly minimalistic art style that can easily jump from horrific to cute to somber in the blink of an eye, the haunting soundtrack that enriches every scene, the excellent voice acting, and above all the extremely compelling plot and philosophical themes all combine to make a game that is just so goddamn impactful.

Also the Princess is very cute (which really is the most important thing).

StP solidly resides in that narrative-focused game sweet spot where it manages to stay long enough to not feel ephemeral without overstaying its welcome. I finished my first playthrough in seven four hours and you could probably finish it faster depending on the choices made. Which brings me to the other major selling point, StP has a stupendous amount of choice and reactivity. It is a game designed to be played multiple times and the presentation is so great that you'll very likely want to. This is a game that you could conceivably have a great time playing multiple times even if you don't the kind of person who normally does that sort of thing.

I haven't even begun to wear out my capability to gush about Slay the Princess but I'll hold off. This is very much not a game you'll want to go into in any other way than blind. Suffice to say, you should buy it and buy it as soon as humanely possible. Do it, do it for her (or for the world :V - whichever floats your boat).

Game is fun, I was pretty obsessed with it for a few days.

The main thing everyone should know is Witch best girl, no contest.

It's really good, I'm planning on going back to see more of the content but I loved all of what I saw still have yet to actually really attempt Slaying the Princess. I could not begin to choose a best girl

Approach a person with a deadly weapon and they refuse to engage, we truly live in a society :(

I feel like if someone was trying to decide between slaying me and letting me go, I'd engage harder.

But it actually worked out. The tension between the Princess's desire for me to extend trust to her and my desire to fully understand the situation before making any kind of decision formed the foundation of our dramatic arc.

The Princess is voiced by Nichole Goodnight, who was apparently scouted after the devs really liked her stream of their other game, Scarlet Hollow. On that note, go play Scarlet Hollow.

That's funny. They certainly made the right choice with that casting, Goodnight brought so much life to the role.

And yeah I'm definitely going to buy Scarlet Hollow. If it's even remotely as good as Slay the Princess it will be well worth the money.

Hell yes, a Slay the Princess thread.

I have been following this game since the early demos, and I can confirm it deserves the praise @Fourthspartan56 lavishes upon it. I considered making my own thread for the game but I don't think I could have sung its praises as well.

What a lovely game.

Got it Sunday, slammed through two full playthroughs and a few routes I was vaguely curious about after that. Incredible stuff.

My blind playthrough was Stranger, Prisoner, Deconstructed Damsel, Fury, Thorn which was an interesting bookend set, albeit low on adversarial routes. I've since tried out Nightmare, Spectre, Adversary, Razor, Den, and Normal Damsel.

It's a really interesting game. I liked some of the implicit statements routes like Spectre and Nightmare provide about the relationship and my retrospective on the voices is definitely very different to how I felt about them when I first encountered each one.

Slay the Princess - Slay the Princess - The Pristine Cut, coming in 2024 - Steam News

Hi everyone, Thank you all so much for supporting our work and helping Slay the Princess reach a level of success that gives our studio the freedom to make our games completely on our own terms and the way we want to make them moving forward! We're extremely proud of what we've made with Slay...

In exciting news, because of StP's success the devs have announced a free update called "The Pristine Cut" which is coming out next year. It will add new chapters, expand the existing chapters, and apparently offer as of yet unannounced features.

Suffice to say I am unbelievably hyped, I love all of the routes but it's pretty clear that not all of the Princesses were equally fleshed out (looking at you The Prisoner). If the neglected options can be given more love then an already great game will be made even greater.

Anyone know a good guide on how to get each princess? I think Ive seen them all but I'm sure there are a few I missed

Ok. One of the new routes is a variant of the Prisoner...but what are the other two?

The ones I most expect are something splitting off The Spectre/Wraith, and maybe a variant from The Wild? Perhaps a version of the Damsel following her complete deconstruction if you questioned her too much?

Been a while so I might be forgetting some obvious divergence point, assuming they don't add one to the expanded routes of course.

Having given it a lot of thought, I think The Hero is Choice, the Princess Change. Action and Reaction

Thank ye, though what I really want is a decision tree. It's easier for me to visualize
Maybe a bit late, but the best decision tree I've seen us this one. Though it is not a minimal spoilers one, it is quite thorough.

Surprised nobody bumped this when the Pristine Cut released. It seems to include 3 new third chapters, 3 revamped ones, and a few other tweaks here and there (the Moment of Clarity is slightly redesigned, for example).
