"Ummm, sure, I'll take a reading," you mutter, sticking your hands in your pockets. Your hand winds up sliding over the little winged deer figurine, and you consider asking about it, but Madame Dark is shuffling the deck so intently you decide not to. She tosses a ring of dust on the table, then pulls a card out with a flourish. "This is you!" she declares, showing an image of a youth of indeterminate gender about to walk off a cliff, the wording under it declaring the card to be "LE FOL".
"This covers you!" she declares, producing a strange card you've never seen before, showing an eye staring out of the night sky, 'L'OEIL DU NUIT'. "This crowns you!" she continues. A woman, wrestling with a lion, labeled'FORCE' with the number XXIII. "This is beneath you!" she declares, producing a card of another androgynous figure, this one wearing a crown, being pulled in a chariot by a pair of red horses, labeled 'LE CHARIOT'. "This is behind you!" she shouts, putting down a strange card of what looks like bubbles before a purple field labeled 'L'ETHER'. "This is before you!" She reveals the Hanged Man card, labeled 'LE PENDU'. "This guides you!" she declares, revealing a card labeled 'CHARITE' and numbered XXIX with a woman with a glowing halo, a fire in her right hand."This is one who influences you!" revealing a card labelled "LA PAPESSE" numbered II that looks a great deal like 'The High Priestess'."These are your hopes and fears!"she says, showing 'LE ESTOIRE', which shows a man on horseback looking up at a large star in the sky. "And here's how it all ends!" she finishes, producing, "LA MORT", which shows a skeleton holding a scythe and riding a rotting horse.
She settles down on her chair, and regards the reading. "Hmmmm. Not such a bad reading, really." She scratches her flank. "And what does it mean, you ask? Why that from the dust you come and to the grave you go, dearie."
You gulp slightly. "That's... urrr... nice," you mutter. "Now about Gemma...?"
"Her?" snaps Madame Dark. "A nobody. Of no account. 'Tis yourself you must worry for, for you live under the eyes of the perytons, the fraud-beasts, the shadow-things, those which look upon humanity with envy, and murderous, gluttonous desire." She turns around suddenly, a card twirling in her hands. It shows a chubby thing that looks like a strange combination of man and pig shoveling food into its gaping maw. It is labeled "GOURMANDISE", and numbered XVIII. "They hunger, and they will feed, girl. Oh, shall they feed." She flashes you a ruin of a smile, showing you those broken, rotting teeth. "Feed on lives, feed on hopes, feed on dreams, feed on it all, until nothing's left but the rind..."
You nod, and start backing out of the trailer. "That... thank you for the warning..."
Madame Dark cackles at that. "Oh, spare me your gratitude, child. You should fear me more than you fear them. For as the curtain is opened, and the show begins, I take my place." She stands up, head lolling on her shoulders in a rather distressing manner, and turns towards you. "For if it is not clear to you, child," she declares, hand twirling, "I am the villain of this piece." And another card has appeared in her hand 'LE DIABLE', showing a goat-headed devil with a woman's breasts, a desperate man and woman
She takes a single step towards you, licking her lips. Her tongue, you note, is a discolored black, same as her lips.
What now?
[ ] Run. Run. Run as fast as you can. Run.
[ ] Try to maybe reason with her or flatter her or something. You might be able to talk her down from killing you.
[ ] ...You know what? Screw this fear. You're going out like a champ. Draw some sort of weapon, and go at her. A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
