Should The Sun Not Rise (Urban Fantasy, Updates Sundays)

...well, that might be a problem. Should be interesting to see which you are going for, whether the magic will return to Earth or whether the gods will stay dead forever. Either could make a good story.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I am. I do like that you are using one of the more obscure faiths for this one; makes it more interesting.

I, uh, forgot to post the update in this thread again, didn't I.

Chapter 18
: in which I hate myself for making my first long-form project a supernatural detective story because I am no good at setting up the twists ahead of time.

TBH, when you only have like 5 named characters and one of them is a normal old professor who just so happens to be interested in Aztec culture, it's kinda hard to pull off any sort of reveal on who the serial killer is...

If you're just teasing us and she doesn't actually take the kid as hostage I'll be upset :(

Yeah, it was always kind of an issue. Hard to introduce a big cast when a defining feature of the main character is that she is a recluse forced out into the world.

Speaking of, Chapter 19!

I am going to have to hold on this week's update until next week, as there are some things I would like to tweak in this chapter that I haven't been able to this week.

Glad I found this.

I'm also a bit proud that I twigged to Mali's nature pretty quickly (around the time she swallowed the mouse).

Huh. I never would have guessed from that. I also can't find how snakes relate to tzitzimimeh.
The tzitzimimeh are presented in mythology as skeleton women with rattlesnakes for penises. I twisted the arm of my inner anthropology amateur to have it in the more palatable format of snake-as-literal-guts, though :V

And Chapter 23 is up!

I'm still not feeling very good about it - the presentation of it is off, telling a side-story in a first-person narrative is something I hadn't tried before, but hopefully it works well enough.

...oh dear. It seems like both sides of the Veil are going to have to do some serious adaptation if this works like he seems to think that it will.

Man, this fight was just maximally hardcore. Both sides take serious injuries, it's a blatant fight to the death, and Malia's chant wouldn't be out of place in a death metal band's lyrics. Fantastic stuff.

Chapter 26.

And so, we are reaching the end. Next week, the epilogue.

Thanks for sticking with this series so far, and for leaving comments. I probably could have done more to keep this thread alive and promote it but it turns out that I am terrible at this aspect of writing :V
