Your crew search high and low inside the ship, before reporting that they can't find any aircraft recognition books.

That being said, 2 of the larger, gull-winged aircraft break off from their formation heading towards you at their current altitude.

It's at this moment when the first 2 of your 11 Beaufighters break through the cloud cover above and to the right of the enemy, coming in from above and slightly behind them, as well as off to one side. This, combined with the fact that most of the enemy aircraft are paying closer attention to Haida than they are to looking around for enemy planes results in both those 2 Beaufighters, and the 6 following them, each bagging one of the larger single-engine aircraft.

The 5 Beaufighters following them, however, don't have as easy a time of it - the enemy's fighters have managed to get their wits about them, and 6 of them go head on with the Beaufighters. 3 are shot down with no damage to the Beaufighter they were attacking, but 2 others score mutual kills against their respective Beaufighter, leaving 1 enemy fighter free to fight the rest....

... however, it's at this point when Shinano's Shindens drop out of the clouds like thunderbolts from an enraged god, shredding 4 of the remaining enemy bombers, and all of the remaining fighters, with 30 millimeter cannon fire.

However, the high closure rate and lack of dive brakes means that your pilots only have brief windows to engage their targets, and 2 miss completely and have to break off to avoid ramming their targets - and unfortunately, those targets were the 2 bombers headed for Haida

All you hear from the enemy destroyer is a brief shriek of alarm, before she slams her engines to full power and heels over into a hard turn - but this reduces her speed enough that your lunge carries you straight into her back - and your dagger straight into her right kidney. Her body locks up, and all you can hear is a wordless howl of agony from the enemy destroyer.

Tia, already reeling from the shovel hit, has only just managed to stop staggering when your shells tear through her head. She wobbles, then collapses forward, blood pouring from the holes in her mask.

Suddenly, she grabs your arm as she falls, holding on with the last of her strength. She speaks, her voice faint, "thank... you... sister..."

Tia releases your arm, hits the water, and sinks, almost instantly.

Thankfully, your bridge crew had the sense to evacuate to the most heavily armored portion of your conning tower, which means that the damage to your bridge hasn't impacted your combat performance. However, your fire control crew report than your main battery gun directors are badly damaged - the lenses and mirrors have been shattered by the shock, leaving your main battery guns, and your fore most secondary guns, on purely local control.

You hear one of the battleships back near the carriers on the radio, but the transmission is badly garbled - your crew then give you a damage report, indicating that your main radio antenna also was damaged, this time by shrapnel from the 10 centimeter shell that hit you. That being said, even as that crew member delivers a report, a burst of static issues from the radio set on the bridge - evidently, one of your other crew has managed to jury rig the antenna back into working order using some bailing wire and tape.

Michigan looks over at the battlecruiser. "Same." She then turns to focus on the incoming aircraft, AA guns and dual purpose secondaries traversing around to point in the direction of the incoming aircraft.

Unfortunately, while your radar crew has kept you as informed as they can about the battle, you're too far away to shoot down the bombers targeting Haida

Michigan
nod. "I'm Michigan. And seeing as I have 18" guns, yeah, that sounds like a good idea."

With that, Michigan turns to follow Shinano, her incredibly powerful engines allowing her to easily catch up with and overtake the aviation battleship.

Goodness! There are two bombers left, and they're heading straight for that friendly destroyer, Haida! My fighters did a great job, but now I'll need their help once more. I try to get two of them to maneuver and run an attack pass on the runaway bombers.

Later, the other battleship, Michigan, catches up to me, even while I'm at flank speed. "You're fast," I comment.

@Sturmi "Attention Hadia, two enemy bombers have made it through the assault and are closing on your position!" Habbukuk shouted over the radio, as the Vickers she had prepped and waiting on her runway where launched and told to wait in a holding pattern as she immediately begins getting the next trio of Vickers readied and orders the whole sextet to head to the incoming enemy, while the remaining Buefighters where to maintain cover over Sthal until the bombers caught up with them, then switch to escorting them.

@UbeOne "Shin, you mind having your fighters help provide escort to my bombers?"

"Sure thing," I answer. Two arrows, and thus the four new Shindens, are assigned to that duty.

And nothing of value was lost. She had never really trusted those guns in the first place, so she didn't feel she would have to change her plans too overly much.

Stahl smiled. Her crew seemed to be rather resourceful, hopefully the patch job worked.

"Habbukuk, Shinano," Stahl said, quickly hailing the others, "If it is not... too much trouble, it would be helpful if you... informed me if any... enemy aircraft targeted me. I have anti-air, but... my s-systems may be... miscalibrated. Forewarning would certainly... improve my chances... of survival."

My answer is polite yet clipped, for while she is an ally, I'm not a fan of her headstrong attitude, reminiscent of that coast guard boat. "All right."

Sure, we battleships have tons of armor and guns, but still...

Actions:
- 1 Skyraider: Continue defensive early warning

- 8 Shindens: Escort Habakkuk's bombers
- 6 Shindens: Combat Air Patrol
- 4 Chickasaws: Conduct ASW in the surrounding area, then land on deck if they need refueling
- Attempt to use the 10cm guns on those two hostile bombers, if they're within range

@shinkiro "Thank you for the notice, I think I can handle them." Haida immediately begins to volley 4.5 inch shells at the lead aircraft, preparing to open fire with 40mm and 20mm guns and take wild evasive action once the range closes enough for the smaller caliber weapons to be effective.

Habbakuk's Vickers bombers launch and form up without incident, and begin heading down range. The Beaufighters are still coming back around from their guns pass. Likewise, the Shindens are also trying to come around as fast as possible, although odds are they won't get there in time...

... or be needed when they do, after Haida vaporizes one of the bombers with a lucky 4.5" shell hit. The other ducks and weaves as it closes, rolling inverted and diving almost vertically towards Haida, only to disintegrate when a salvo of 40 millimeter shells turns it into metallic confetti. The largest remaining piece - likely a piece of the engine - smashes into the water just short of Haida with enough force to launch a plume of water up to the edge of where her bridge windows would be on her hull. She is thus now rather thoroughly soaked.
Upon seeing the blood begin to pour out of the thing that calls itself her sister, Yugu freezes. Oh... That has to hurt... As she gets a "sister" clinging to her arm and thanking her, she jolts a bit. I feel bad... Don't worry, you're in a better place now... I hope I never have to go through that again. Yugu's eyes begin to water, but she wipes them and turns to look at the last destroyer, which is being stabbed by the submarine. She's got that under control... I think. I'll go back to the others. Nodding to herself, she turns to the direction of the (friendly) main fleet and begins returning to them.
You turn around, and suddenly you aren't near the other ships you've met. Instead, you're sailing along with someone you're dead certain is your sister, escorting a group of cargo ships somewhere. Suddenly, a trio of light cruisers attack! You and your sister drive off two of them, but the last one is far better at dodging. You try to launch torpedoes, but your launchers jam.

Just as you prepare for the end, plumes of water erupt along the side of the enemy cruiser - your sister's torpedoes.

You feel yourself turn back towards your sister, and say, "Thanks, Tia...."

You come back to yourself as the... memory, fades out and reality slowly returns.
"All right, I'll keep Icy here escorted. Have fun shooting them in the face." I returned the nod and waved at both Michigan and Bluenette.
Michigan waves back as she and Shinano proceed towards the enemy.
Harder takes a moment to twist the knife a little deeper before tearing it out through the front of her stomach and sheaths her blade. Then she gently wraps her arms around the destroyer in a hug as she rises to her full height from the sea.

"So I figured out what language you were speaking earlier," Harder states before leaning into her captive's ear, "おまえはもうしんでいる."

She allows a moment of peace for her message to sink in, then performs an Atomic Drop, she then drops the girl letting her fall onto her nubs as she writhes in pain from the brutal stab and shattered tailbone. However the abyssal's suffering had yet to end as Harder equips the knife once more and impales her right in the sholder, then reaches into her jacket to grab her pistol.

"I trusted you," the submarine whispers before firing a shot right into her magazines.
The enemy destroyer is too busy feeling excruciating pain to respond to your message, and barely seems to notice your 'Atomic Drop'. The knife results in barely a twitch in response.

You fire.

Nothing happens as the bullet enters the magazine, embeds itself in a powder bag, and unsurprisingly fails to cause an explosion. The enemy destroyer then sinks rapidly.

Really, what were you expecting? This isn't a movie.

Suddenly, you aren't standing on the surface of the water - you're submerged at periscope depth, hiding from the J͘̕҉̶̢@̧͘͝͏͞9̶̡҉͢4̷̡N̴̴̷̨3͏̷$̧͟3̨ destroyers pursuing you. You poke your periscope above the surface, and almost sigh in relief - a friendly destroyer. Electing to not question your luck, you begin surfacing, only to stop and stare for a second as, instead of signalling you, the seemingly friendly destroyer opens fire with it's forward guns. It misses, and you begin crash diving. The last thing you see before you submerge completely is the J͘̕҉̶̢@̧͘͝͏͞9̶̡҉͢4̷̡N̴̴̷̨3͏̷$̧͟3̨҉ flag flying on their mast.

After that, it's simply a continuous string of depth charges, until you find yourself coming back to reality with a start as the memory fades.
Later, the other battleship, Michigan, catches up to me, even while I'm at flank speed. "You're fast," I comment.
"I have 230+ thousand horsepower engines, that's not really surprising. Although, I am a seriously big boat."
"Sure thing," I answer. Two arrows, and thus the four new Shindens, are assigned to that duty.
Your 4 Shindens rapidly begin climbing to altitude, mixing with your already airborne flights. They then form up on Habbakuk's Wellington bombers, making hard turns at high altitude to allow them to keep pace with the slower propeller driven bombers.

Your AEW aircraft reports no further enemy air contacts in it's detection radius, although it's still reporting the enemy fleet along your current course.

I exhale in relief when the last bomber gets splashed by the destroyer herself. Whew! Good thing she was able to take care of those two.

I continue closing in on the enemy fleet. Once my main guns are in range, I intend to prioritize the enemy capital ships, with the cruisers as secondary targets. "Let's focus fire on one of their capships?" I suggest to the battleship, Michigan.

Harder fixes her breathing, 'Gotta calm down, I can't just let myself be tilted like that.' She then takes a moment to gain her bearings, taking a look at the situation around her.

The Wellingtons are about halfway to the target along with their escorting Beaufighters, Meteors, and Shindens, when Shinano's AEW Skyraider reports more contacts on radar. Shinano's Skyraider's radar operator isn't sure, but he thinks the new contacts might be planes, although his radar set isn't precise enough to be certain.

"Gather intel." Leviathan murmured softly as she rejoined the others, skating back into the formation of destroyers and battleship. Where it was far safer for her to be now that they'd been able to sink those... things.

They'd won without losses, despite her being unoptimized to fight a surface group like that. U-boats and aircraft she could fight, ships though... that was something else entirely.

Nibbling her lip anxiously as she reached out her deck laden arm to bring her launches aircraft home she glanced down to where their attackers had sunk, a light frown crossing her brow.

They needed knowledge more than anything; where were they, when were they, what were those things, who were they and why were they here? Being the most pressing of anything that came to mind most immediately. Of those though there wasn't much she doubted they could do to figure out either the when, the why, the what or who questions.

Watching as her planes began to return to her; landing on her deck for disappearing she reached up to brick her hand through the shaggy bob of her brown hair before reaching up to press a hand against the bridge of her glasses.

"Location would well um, be easiest, I think." Leviathan added shyly gesturing with her bow-catapult. It'd mean launching a new flight of Fairey Fulmars to replace the ones she launched to make up for the loss of ammo from the prior flight's attack runs.

Glancing between Kamikaze and Thunderer she raised her bow slightly before letting out another soft murmur.

"Mind if I scout?"

Watching them soar as high as they were rated for into the skies before they began to make a wide almost lazy circle around the group; searching as much of the surrounding areas as they could. Leviathan hoped that they'd be able to see something, anything that could help her and the others with their current wayward status. Pressing a finger firmly against the bridge of her glasses she sucked in an anxious breath before turned towards her flotilla-mates, speaking softly if clearly, Thunderer's request keen in her mind.

Your Fulmars soar through the air, revealing smoke rising through the air from the Northeast.

They also report on the location of another group of friendlies to your south

Slightly south of the secondary group

@CV12Hornet

You appear in the middle of the ocean, nier a memory to call your own, except small things, such as religion, your name, and how to talk in two languages.

You see a quartet of girls, one you assume to be the same age as you— a Heavy Cruiser?— and a trio of shorter girls— Destroyers? — The shorter ones look relatively the same, wearing white dress uniforms, though a few differences to tell them apart, bandages and a "DD-557" on the brunette, brown eyed one, A "DD-533" on one of the Blonde ones, wearing glasses with her hair up in a ponytail, and the Last one with "DD-532". All wear a peaked cap atop their heads, with a Crest of an eagle, star and striped shield, and anchors placed atop it.

"Hiya! I'm Frisco. Who are you four?" The blonde cruiser says waving.

"Johnston." The bandaged Destroyer says

"Hoel." The bespectacled blonde girl says.

"And I'm Heermann." The last girl says.

Strange sounds from above bring your attention to a few planes.

Eyeing the smoke to the northeast wearily as frown crossed her brow Leviathan nibbled on her lip before sucking in a breath as her scouts caught sight of what was laid out south of her and flotilla-mates.

Ships, or rather as her planes got a better look; shipgirls who didn't look like the things they had fought not long ago. Which meant potential friendlies. Allies who could link up with and better their chances and getting somewhere safe, somewhere where they could get intel and figure out what was going on and more importantly why.

But depending on what that smoke to northeast was...

They would likely need that help sooner rather than later.

Running a hand through her hair as she ordered her scouts to edge closer to the potential friendlies, Leviathan turned to Thundered as she steadied herself

"We've got rising smoke to the northeast and possible friendlies to the south; two heavy cruisers and three destroyers; I'm getting my scouts closer to get a better look though."

Casting a glance to the north, Leviathan sucked another breath as she waited for her scouts to get closer.

Smyrna blinks, staring around her at the open ocean, eyes trained to spot enemy ships quickly falling on the other four near her. Who are, somehow, also young women. And she's also a young woman. What in the-

'Focus, Smyrna.'

Somehow, she knows the older woman is a heavy cruiser, and the other three destroyers. Their caps have a symbol she doesn't recognize, though the Eagle does bring to mind the Empire of Mexico. She blinks. 'I can remember that but not who the Emperor is?' Oh, and they're talking in a weird Triune dialect, a dialect she for some reason understands like it's Greek.

Well. This is certainly an interesting situation she's in.

"My name's Smyrna," she says to the question the cruiser poses. Idly, one hand reaches into her pocket. "And this might be an odd question, but are you four Triune ships?" Surprisingly, her hand closes around two items in her pocket, and Smyrna pulls them out to find a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Raising an eyebrow, she lights one and takes a deep drag, feeling a rush through her - and some muted grumbling from what she's pretty sure is her chief engineer. "Because the last thing I remember was fighting some Triune ships. Or was it a party?"

Engine noises draw her eyes upward, to few planes flying overhead. Scouts, most likely. "Regardless, we should probably get moving. Any of you know where we are?"

Leviathan
Location Unknown
@ravagEr

2x Fairey Fulmars to close in on southern ships.

@SirHades2.0

You watch as your Pilot makes a hand motion to his wingman, soon after, he pulls the throttle back, and the lead Fulmar pitches over into a dive, the other plane following after him.

The lead Fulmer's Pilot keeps an eye on his altimeter, watching it for the right time to start pulling out of the dive.

The two planes pull out of the dive, fly past one of the cruiser's bridges, make a speed killing turn, then the pilots slam the throttle back into its former position, and loiter around, doing small circles around the other group, awaiting orders.

"What the fuck is a 'Triune'? Is it food? Wait, you said 'ships'...no? I don't think so..." Johnston asks

"Not the foggiest." Frisco says.

"The Ocean." Hoel says.

@CV12Hornet

You watch as the two planes pitch over into a dive, and from what you can see, neither has bombs, so their either friendly, or their going to attempt to strafe you.

The two aircraft pull out of the dive, and fly past your bridge, before beginning to loiter overhead.

The confusion at the word "Triune" is only a little surprising. Their caps already screamed something being off. Only one possibility makes sense, for a given value of 'sense'.

'Oh Great Allah I'm in one of Trebizond's pulp novels.'

Once again, her swiss-cheese memory is baffling. She remembers that Trebizond likes schlocky sci-fi pulp novels, but for the life of her she can't remember any of the plots, names, or authors. Or, again, who the current emperor is. Sucking in a lungful of smoke, Smyrna breathes it out again, a soothing action.

Engine noises draw her eye up again, and Smyrna nearly chokes on her cigarette as the airplanes nose over and dive straight for them. Correction: straight for her. She tries to accelerate, but the engineers are still frantically trying to bring up steam pressure. She aims her anti-aircraft guns, but their fire control system does not like diving airplanes and her fairies are still getting to the hand-swung 25s. And the idea they might be friendly passes her mind and stays her hand further.

So she can only flinch as the planes buzz her right in front of her face and then zoom off.

"Well, I don't know about you four, but I'm following those planes," Smyrna states, taking a deep drag to calm her heart. "Hopefully they can lead us to the carrier, or in the direction of land. And then I can give them a piece of my mind."

And with that, she turns and steams in the direction of the planes' egress vector.
