Shadow of the Dragon: An 8-Bit Dystopia Quest

By the way, I keep forgetting to ask this, but what degree of familiarity with the source material (early Fire Emblem) do you all have? I can tell that some of you, at least, are part of the fandom. But I'm not sure if the majority of people are here because of the 8-bit Dystopia setting or Fire Emblem or they just like my fancy writing. I want to know in order to calibrate how I use the crossover elements, and how sneaky to be with foreshadowing, and how likely y'all are to recognize obscure characters and lore. Just to give an example, I'm not sure if anyone realized that Frost is actually a canon, playable character.

So, please explain where you're coming from! I would appreciate it.

Well I'm mostly familiar with the games from Path of Radiance onward to 3 houses, having played most of them. I know the barebones of the plots of the first few Fire Emblems but just barely.

I do I'm more familiar with the 8 bit Dystopia deluxe setting and your work, that's what drew me in for this quest. Excited to see how the fire emblem elements interact with the rest of 8BD!

When it comes to Marth's era, not very. I'm more aware of the Valentia remake.

Came here because I'm a fan of the 8-Bit Dystopian Setting.

I started with fe7 before bouncing to playing the judgral games Thracia is a personal fav of mine.
My achaneia experience is having played book 1 of fe3(though I would like to play shadow dragon if I can get a affordable copy) and most of book 2(the saves still there even if its been years hmm, this quest may prompt the mood to finish it) , but i've been a longtime lurker in the fandom even if i've dipped in recent years. Michalis quest seemed novel given what I knew of the character+ wyvern are cool.
On to possible write-in, a couple that occur to me

Sending diplomats to dohlr: Establish more formal diplomatic relations with Medeus. Be able to better understand what his demands or future demands of us.
Who's Gharnef: You are unsure of when Gharnef popped onto the scene he seemed to have just came out of nowhere and allied to Medeus from the very begining(doesn't he hate humains?) there are claims he's invicinble, in retrospect his rise seems quite sudden who is Gharnef?
Buy food: Macedon is lacking in food, however the wyvern forces means its reach is long: Establish trade contact other nations and cityfolk, try to use goods to purchase food.
Wyvern fishing: Our dragons rule the sky, however they may also yet rule he waves, use wyverns alongside large nets to boost food production from fishing.

This one may veer on metagamy so I would totally get if it isn't okayed.
The millennium thief's: Grust's lost some treasure from its royal vaults some of the thief's are still out there, retrieve the the treasure to receive gratitude from Grust... or to take if for ourselves.

I will make a plan tomorrow, but I feel like the biggest needs right now are figuring out who the hell these Manakates are ic and Gharnef paranoia. With a secondary focus on economics with merc or farm work. Getting in touch with Aurelis may also help, as Hardins liable to eventually yoink Nyna possibly, and is basically the only notable rebel around right now if I recall which may be useful if we wish to be twofaced. If nothing else keeping a eye on the man seems worthwhile if nothing else. Pyrathi is also pssobily worth getting in touch with he's a prick(cough Ogma's backstory) but what he has to say may be useful to us even if he's not the sort of person even we would want to ascocate with.

So something like this perhaps works?

[] Plan: Covering our Bases V2
-[] (DIPLOMACY) Reach out to Talys (Whitewing Sisters)
-[] (MARTIAL) Scout Aurelis (Minerva)
-[] (STEWARDSHIP) Found new farms (Matthis)
-[] (INTRIGUE) Interrogate Gharnef's 'gift'
-[] (LEARNING) A wise woman's legacy (Frost)
-[] (OCCULT) A rainbow of scales
-[] (MICHALIS) Break bread with…
--[] Maria
-[] (MICHALIS) Preside over court
-[] (MICHALIS) Move into your father's room
-[] (MICHALIS) Spend time with your wyvern
-[] (Minerva) Lend a helping hand
--[] Scout Aurelis
-[] (Maria) Inquire after Sister Lena
-[] (Matthis) Lend a helping hand
--[] Found new farms
-[] (Whitwewing Sisters) Lend a helping hand
--[] Reach out to Talys
-[] (Whitwewing Sisters) (Est) Make some friends!
-[] (Frost) Lend a helping hand
--[] A wise woman's legacy

Choose scouting Aurelis and reaching to Talys, as well asdoing the compedium and finding more about dragons.
Working on the farms and checking who is pur new prisioner seems like somehting we really need to do this turn.

Thoughts?

I'd like to get in contact with our fellow vassals. I'm not familiar with the early Fire Emblem games, but it sounds like getting the Grust/Archanea block on our side is important long-term. Talys Is useful too, in that it may open up options to buy Tech, but I'm not sure it's more important then opening up communications with four nations.

'Expand the Holm docks' is an action we should be saving up goods for, opening up Valentia is potentially game changing and the trade income will pay off the initial investment eventually. So, I'm against taking 'Plug the holes', especially with the increased goods costs for construction this turn.

'Found new farms' is the obvious stewardship action for now, it's the easiest and highest priority food option this turn. Hopefully it'll be enough to deal with our food problems for this year.

Edit:
I like 'A wise woman's legacy' for learning. It's easier this turn and it doesn't cost tech.

The geopolitics is Grust is cowardly and the kings heirs are Medeus's hostages, Camus is helping Nyna rule Arkhnea as a vassal of sorts but is slipping the leash and pushing his mandate to its limits this eventually leads to dholr intervening. Upon realizing this and realizng he can't go to war with medeus without getting the heirs Camus killed decides to lowman kill a entire brigade lead by a manakete while Nyna escape to Hardin. Then Medeus compares Camus to Anri when he eventually moves in personally and he's then carted off for punishmet for a while. Grust also if they weren't stolen has the the equipment needed to make starlight which is the only way to kill Gharnef.
Talys is basically an extension of Marth crew and should be treated as such.
And yeah we need money for docks hmm could we try raiding Pyrathy, the dragon despots a recluse slaver nobody likes realy, depends how much we want to gamble on Medeus being in favor of Manakate solidarity.

Medeus is officially your overlord, and yet he hasn't done any actual ruling that you can see. It's not that you want him imposing his will on you - it's simply that you want to know what the damn dragon wants. Send an ambassador and humbly ask to open lines of communication. (Your ambassador doesn't get kicked out of Dohlr. Medeus pays more attention to you, for good and for bad.)

Because I'm nice, I will point out that acknowledging Medeus as his overlord rustles Michalis's jimmies, penalizing the roll by -10 thanks to his Arrogant trait.

You can get this information just by getting involved with Khadein.

I was going to give you guys that option in Pegastym, to make up for any shortfall at the last minute.
Wyvern fishing: Our dragons rule the sky, however they may also yet rule he waves, use wyverns alongside large nets to boost food production from fishing.
um...no.
The millennium thief's: Grust's lost some treasure from its royal vaults some of the thief's are still out there, retrieve the the treasure to receive gratitude from Grust... or to take if for ourselves.
You might be a little confused. The Millenium Court is the royal palace of the Holy Kingdom (recently captured by Grust). Their regalia is pretty awesome, but it emphatically does not include the gems from the Binding Shield, because Adrah pried them out and sold them to get kingdom-building money. At any rate, I'm not giving you an action to track down the thieves because, well, you already have an option that will lead you directly to them. I'm still kind of surprised that no one has figured it out.

My Fire Emblem experience mostly comes by way of Shadow Dragon (the remake), Awakening (not really relevant here) and Echoes (the Valencia remake). I've read a bit about the plot of FE3, but haven't played it. As for actions I'm interested in, I see we have an option to conduct raids (which I'm all for), but not one to actually seize territory for ourselves. If we're going to conquer the continent in the glorious name of Macedon, we've got to start expanding somewhere!

At any rate, I'm not giving you an action to track down the thieves because, well, you already have an option that will lead you directly to them. I'm still kind of surprised that no one has figured it out.

Hmm, could that be where our lost dracoknights got to?

I'm excited to see how this whole paralogue thing works, so I'll think I'll make my own plan.

[X] Plan: Be Aggressive
-[X] Allies, for the moment
-[X] Soldiers of fortune
-[X] Found new farms (Matthis)
-[X] Desert isn't as sweet without the second 's' (Whitewings)
-[X] A wise woman's legacy (Frost)
-[X] Magic Mushrooms
-[X] Lead a Raid
--[X] Aurelis
--[X] Michalis, Minerva, and the Whitewings
-[X] (Michalis) Break bread with…
--[X] Maria
-[X] (Michalis) Preside over court
-[X] (Michalis) Spend time with your wyvern
-[X] (Michalis) Deploy to Paralogue
--[X] Raid on Aurelis
-[X] (Minerva) Deploy to Paralogue
--[X] Raid on Aurelis
-[X] (Whitewings) Deploy to Paralogue
--[X] Raid on Aurelis
-[X] (Whitewings) Lend a helping hand

-[X] (Maria) Inquire after Sister Lena
-[X] (Matthis) Lend a helping hand
--[X] Found new farms
-[X] (Frost) Lend a helping hand
--[X] A wise woman's legacy

I suspect that most people here have at least some passing FE experience, but I doubt that many of those who do have actually played either version of Mystery of the Emblem.

Personally, I've played every other game, but all I really know about the second Archanea game is that Lorenzo explodes and Medeus gets a harem.

Wait is I might have misunderstood one of the options is there an option for selling our swords to folk? Or is that for hiring mercs?
The name for the medeus stuff is funny, also the malus lol.

Ah I mixed it up with the Grusts personnel storehouse but hmm reglia is pretty nice some regelia maybe that would be nice to grab or us use for a public relations boost. Seems to be those missing wyverns hmm, something to work on if we have excess actions.
I feel like we want an ambassador if only so Medeus doesn't start making choice for us. We could delay for plausible deniability on some stuff but functionally we need to do it or else Medeus will suddenly start acting up with us having no idea what we did wrong.
Khadein seems important, looking into our Allies is basically required given how much things are tied into gharnef plots.
I say we use our martial action on merc work(I'm inclined to just outright steal Travants foreign policy lol) or a Pyrathy raid, depends how much we want to cross risk it with medeus for the later though if we do it this turn we can claim plausible deniability. I'm inclined to try and put a puppet client ruler into Pyrathy(prob need to find a pliable Manakate for the job though given Medeus), as a way of extending our influence while in a diplomatically popular way while having a way of managing Marth proggress.

Look its not medeus kink its uh Kag-I mean gharnef's brainwashing kink.
You know it would be hilarious if the qm gave us Samto posing as Navarre.

I'm only familiar with 3 houses and Fates, so I'm getting none of the references you are sharing. I came because I'm a fan of the 8bit series. But this is still interesting to me!

While I do consider myself a big fan of the FE series, I must admit I am rather in the dark about its earlier installments. I began following the series after Awakening came out and lit my love for strategy games and have played most of the games that came out afterwards. For the earlier games however I lack both the games and the hardware required to play any of them (with the exception of Echoes), though I am interesting in playing them if it's ever possible for me to do (especially the Jugdral games). Most of what I know of the earlier games comes either from Smash or videos about those games.

As for what brought me here...a combination of all three really. I like Fire Emblem and consider myself a fan, I like 8BD and made my own works around it too, I've read your Crimson Wind story and I did enjoy your writing in that too, and additionally I just really enjoy CK/Management quests ingeneral.

Wait is I might have misunderstood one of the options is there an option for selling our swords to folk? Or is that for hiring mercs?
The Martial option 'Soldiers of Fortune' will give you the option to hire mercenaries. If other factions have jobs for you, they will let you know...once you make contact with them.

If shit from Tellius (not Tellius itself since the QM made thar clear) shows up here, then my Fire Emblem knowledge will come in handy. And since the first Like a Dragon game was greenlit by a few 8BD writers when I asked (albiet they did have to think it over since it was released in the December of '05), parts of Path of Radiance (because again, Tellius isn't apart of this setting) might also show up!

Upside, the Greil Mercenaries might even be available for us to hire at one point! Downside for if we do, Black Knight might show up as a part of a Kazuya Mishima Affiliated Tekken Force (Because Kazuya's dream of a world ruled by the strong would absolutely appeal to Mad King Ashnard's local variant) because he's all but obsessed with surpassing Greil, not to mention that The Mishima's absolutely would make a go for any of the Fire Emblems (such as the Medallion from those two games) or their related artifacts if they think it'll give them more power.

Okay, discussion seems to have died down, so i encourage everyone to get their votes in. The vote will be open for four days, until my next day off.

Here's my proposed plan. It's an edit of 'Covering our Bases V2' that goes for 'Allies, for the moment' as the diplomacy action and shifts around the Whitwewings since it's got a lower difficulty.

I'd like to get in contact with our fellow vassals. I'm not familiar with the early Fire Emblem games, but it sounds like getting the Grust/Archanea block on our side is important long-term. This should work right?
Anywho, the reasoning for this plan is simple Pyrathi is friendless and we need money so its basically free to bully him half a continent away, no one will cry tear for his misery (some of his citizens might thanks us for attacking him lol). That way we can get docks next turns. If medeus turns out to care we can claim plasuible deniability vis a vis Medeus this early on if it turns out he doesn't like it. As to Hardin he's only our problem when Medeus tells us its his, until then who cares(also I kinda have soft spot for him).
If your good at something never do it for free!
Gharnef is something I'm just plain paranoid about so I'd like to just get it definitively out of the way. Then we can make a go at those missing wyverns(get that Regelia!) or Gharnef related intrigue next turn. I'm half tempted to go for the bandits purely because Regelia sounds insane and Grust may rush to retrive them. Allies for the moment opens up a lot of options so a greater success probably is what we'd want particularly given the Gharnef ones will probably be the most expensive and Grust diplo is preety darn importent in how it ties into so many plotlines(Camus,Nyna, and the spheres we need for starlight).
Other then that I'm following the choir in terms of options.

Okay, so we currently have several plans at one vote each, and the only plan with two votes has a second draft in the works. @Kingster @Brightflame are you two going to keep ypur votes as they are?

So generally what do we want our policy to be because we have a lot of plans some of more minor differences some more major. Posting what we want should make it easier rather then just ending up with the plan that has 2 votes of 5 plans.

Eh, in the interest of giving a plan I mostly like a clear lead, I'm willing to swap my vote to

[X] Plan: Assessing the Field

I'm mildly irritated because I feel like chasing down the dracoknights is a higher priority that interrogating the prisoner, but I seem to be in the minority there, so I'll let it slide. And as eager as I am to go a-raiding and a-conquering, I get the feeling that Summer/Avastym will give us a bonus for military action, so I don't feel too bad about putting that off a turn. At least the scouting will help us prepare for the inevitable invasion.

This count is a little glitchy, since it failed to count the votes for Plan Covering Our Bases, but a winning plan is a winning plan.

And it's got me laughing. There was an incident in a previous quest I ran, where the protagonist recieved information that, while he was away fighting a foreign war, the enemy had sent a fleet to attack his homeland. Worried, the voters debated whether the target of the attack would be the capital or the wealthiest city - where should they try to divert resources and prepare defenses? How much time did they have? The eventual plan they came up with was to have the protagonist speedily fly on dragonback to the nearest friendly port, and from there he would send letters to both potential targets, warning them (Yes, this is the third fanfiction and second quest I've written about an ambitious young king who rides a white dragon, it's weird but y'all voted for this). Anyway, while he was there, the enemy fleet showed up. Turns out this place was their target all along! The voters completely overlooked it, but managed to have an army-defining combat asset in place to defend the city anyway.

This particular plan has me laughing even harder. You'll see why. To @Amperstand in particular: Don't worry about the dracoknights. You'll find them. And then you'll get to see what a combat mission is like!
