There's no limbless torso waiting for you, because you exorcised it, but there are a double handful of those miasmatic plague creatures, with their swords made of tetanus, and you are suddenly very glad that you covered Calvara before you teleported. You tighten your grip on her shoulder, and use your technique to help hold her up.
"Relax," you repeat. "And just stick close to me; they won't be able to touch you."
"But--the rot," she protests. "The disease--"
"Can't touch you any more than it can touch me," you say cheerfully. "Take a sniff. Go on," you urge gently, and after some hesitation, she does. You watch her blink, and then repeat the action, and then a third time, taking in a deep breath through her nose.
"I--smell nothing," she admits, startled, and just a little awed. "I--" She is cut off when a pair of rusty tetanus blades impact Infinity. To her credit, she doesn't even flinch, just grips her staff, and wordlessly casts a barrier, pushing the daemons further away in the next moment.
You take the opportunity to study her staff. It is clearly a cursed tool, you can tell from the energy in it. It seems that she can circulate her own cursed energy into and through it, and can likely use it to several nasty ends.
Cool.
You recall the similar staff lying broken in the corner of the bunker you had popped out into, and wonder if they're some kind of standard issue cursed tool here in the future.
"I've got those guys," you inform her. "You worry about the portal." She nods at once, and lets her barrier drop as her eyes close in concentration. You keep an 'eye' on her, so that you know what to do if this ever comes up again, and turn the rest of your attention to the daemons now surrounding you.
Exorcising them is a matter only slightly complicated by keeping them off a second person, with unfamiliar cursed energy, inside your personal space bubble and Infinity—
Okay, it's kind of annoying, but she's working hard. You can exorcise the daemons and be gracious about it.
Her eyes snap open briefly when you unleash Blue, distracted by the burst of cursed energy so close to her. Once again, you give her credit as she wrenches her attention back to her work.
She wavers once, as you finish with the last of the daemons, but you're free to hold her up again, and she takes that wordless offer, leaning on you and her staff both, as she—
—starts bleeding from the nose, and oh shit her eyes too? Nope nope nope, not on your watch.
"I can see what you're doing," you tell her. "I've got it from here."
"It is my duty," she informs you—as another wave of daemons squeeze through the jagged and wavering portal. Eight this time, easily dispatched, and by the time you're done with that, she has done it—the portal is gone with barely a trace of cursed energy to show where it had been, neatly folded up and done away with, leaving a sad, bloated corpse behind, and a seizing psyker in your hands.
Shit.
It's not that you know fuck all what to do with a seizure—you get her down and on her side right away, Shoko would be proud—it's just that seizing from overuse of cursed energy is bad.
Well. Seizing for any reason is bad, but you can see the energy running wild through her brain, and this is the one damned area of jujutsu that you just can't manage, and all you can do—
Wait.
You activate the radio.
"Hey, Elias, can you do anything about seizures?" you ask, super-casually.
"Is Calvara seizing?" he asks.
"Mm-hmm. Tonic-clonic. Bleeding from the eyes and nose, too, you know, typical overuse symptoms." She really should have let you step in; you could have finished things up with a bare fraction of the energy it cost her, and it wouldn't have done anything your brain couldn't handle.
"Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do," Elias replies. Yeah, what you figured. RCT use is probably just as rare here in the future as it is when you come from.
"Damn. All right. Anyway, the portal's down, all that's left is the clean up." As you say so, you destroy the corpse; it's infested with enough cursed energy on its own that portal or not, if it isn't destroyed with cursed energy, it could easily spawn another curse. One more isn't more than a drop in the proverbial bucket, but it would be one more annoyance for you to handle, and you really aren't interested in wasting your time with it. You have better things to do.
"In that case, return, so we can properly coordinate the clean up," Elias says.
"Mmm... no," you reply. "Not while Calvara's still down. It's not safe to teleport while she's seizing." And on that note, she has stopped; time to check on her. "I'll get back to you in a minute." She's breathing. She has a pulse. You crouch down beside her.
"Calvara. Can you hear me? Hey, I need you to say something if you can." She doesn't answer, but does open her eyes and look at you through a veil of blood, without awareness for a moment, before seizing again.
It takes an eternity, from your perspective, and you spend the entire time monitoring the flow of her cursed energy. The sad fact is, is that she would really need someone like Shoko to help her; normal medical intervention is no good when you're seizing because of your own cursed energy.
"You really should have let me take over," you inform her, once the twitching finally stops. She groans in response, but since her cursed energy has settled out--mostly, it's still popping and fizzing a little, but she's probably not in danger anymore--you scoop her up, kick her staff up into your free hand (and push a little of your own cursed energy through it, just a tiny bit, so you can gain a more thorough understanding), and teleport back to the others.
You are almost, but not quite in Elias' personal space.
Unfortunately, he does not jump. You resist the urge to pout, and instead, grin.
"Sooooo~ We have a medic? Someone should really do something about the blood loss. Nothing to be done for the seizues, unless you have someone who can use reverse cursed energy--"
"What do you mean by 'reverse cursed energy?'" Elias interjects.
You consult the language that has wormed its way into your brain, and find... nothing. There is no equivalent; you just had to translate from the Japanese. This. This could be a problem. A frown crosses your face.
"The kind of energy you use for healing?" you try again. Elias' slight frown deepens; he clearly has no idea what you're talking about, an under his helmet, Davus is beginning to look very suspicious. You could demonstrate, but is that really a good idea?
[] Keep your self-healing under wraps for now; a man needs some secrets.
[] You've been honest(ish) so far, you might as well give them something else to be impressed by.
[] Something else? (Write in.)
If they really don't have any knowledge of RCT, maybe you should take another stab at figuring out how to use it on other people.
[] Yeah.
[] Nah.
