Act 1 Chapter 26
Scrapyard Angels Act 1 Chapter 26

So there I was sitting on a comfortable hospital bed while surrounded by people important to me as well as some very important people. It was quite the motley ensemble with my family and my benefactors all in one room. I wish we could do this later, yet they were already here and there's no time like the present to finish unfinished business.

VI and Jinx sat by my side with the former holding my remaining hand while the latter was playing with my hair. There was also my namestone, or so Kindred told me what it was called, in my person. Convincing Singed on getting it for me was a relatively easy task considering its value. Their presence helped me breathe easier knowing that they were there while I talked to the people in front of us.

In front of my family and I were the Vereza's, with the matriarch Corazon Veraza standing there while her niece Corina stood behind her like a shadow. The good doctor Singed was also there with them, standing beside while taking notes and checking on my vitals on the instruments strapped on to me.

Even after a full night's rest, I was still quite tired and exhausted. My eyelids felt heavy, leaden and lifeless while my mind felt like it was stuff full of cotton. I wonder if it was from how many things happened yesterday or if it was from the drugs still coursing through my veins so I wouldn't collapse on the bed while screaming in agony. Everything was still too bright and everything felt uncomfortable yet, I soldiered on and talked to my sponsor.

"So the man, or rather boy, of the hour. You've made quite a splash with your daring exploits against the enemy of my family" The Baroness greeted as we sat comfortably on the bed. "And you must be his family..."

"The name's Vi, ma'am" Vi introduced herself before Jinx made herself known "And my name's Jinx! Ark's ours so don't get any ideas there flower girl!".

I couldn't help but cover my face with my hands while Jinx glared at Corina. Corina, to her credit, merely raised a delicate eyebrow while Corazon chuckled, amused at the antics of my younger sister. Vi was quick to remind Jinx to behave as she pulled on Jinx's ear.

"Jinx! Manners! We're in front of Ark's boss!" Vi shouted as she abdonished our wayward sister as Jinx held on to her hands.

"Ow ow ow VI! I'm sorry!" Jinx shouted.

"I'm really sorry Ma'am, I-" I tried apologizing only for the baroness to raise her hand and shake her head.

"It's quite alright Mr. Ark. I do find her spunk quite refreshing. As for my granddaughter's preference, I'll leave decisions on her love life up to her" The woman replied, causing the normally unshakable and stoic Corina to blush. It was quite novel, seeing her all embarrassed like this.

"Grandmother!" Corina shouted while Jinx glared at her and stuck out her tongue. The girl groaned while Vi and I gently massaged the bridge of our noses. This was going to be a long day wasn't it? Singed clear his throat reminding us why we were here.

"So, you're probably wondering why you're here in a proper clinic rather than in a random sawbone's examination table, hmm?" The woman asked. That was the question of the hour indeed. While Sawbones are competent, you can question their morals when you're not one of the wealthy or well connected.

"You're far too valuable right now to leave you in the hands of mere amateurs. We take care of our own and you've more than proven yourself an asset rather than a mere investment, being the hero of the hour and whatnot." That got my eyebrow raising.

"Oh don't be so modest. It's not everyday that deeds worthy of stories come to pass. Freeing the children of Zaun from the hands of an evil and cruel baron, ha! Fairy tale material right there boy. Be proud of what you've done, own it." I sat a bit straighter, feeling a bit proud now only to be bopped on the head by an irate VI.

"Hero or not, he's still a rash idiot for going out that night." Vi reminded me, making me wince at the price I paid for my rash actions. Vi held my hands tightly as she buried her face against my neck. "Don't do that ever again you hear me? Please?" I felt my throat tighten as I nodded.

"At least you can get chainsaw hands now? Hey, maybe when you get accepted to the College, we could make it together!" Jinx added, trying to cheer me up. Hey, at least we're looking at the bright side here but then there's still the matter of my exam and I'm not sure how long I've been asleep or what day it is even.

"That's certainly one way to look at it." The older woman replied with an amused smile.

That answers why I was here yet there's still the question of how I got here. "How... did you find me? I remember almost drowning in the sewer system of Zaun..." I could still feel the river pulling me down and how everything felt like it was burning.

"You can thank your younger sister and your family's pet plague rat. Quite the specimen you have there. If it wasn't a mutt, I'd ask if he's available for stud service… Actually, is he available for stud service? Quite the nose that one has. Led your sister and my men inside the labyrinthian sewers of Zaun and straight to you." I nodded dumbly, awe struck at how Mr. Floofington helped save me. Maybe I judged them a bit too harshly

"Yup! After you fell, I thought I lost you until Mr Floofington and Whump pulled me straight to you. I thought I lost you..." I would have reached for Jinx but I don't have my right hand to do so. I leaned against her instead. I held them closely to myself, content at how things were

"I think it doesn't have to be said just how lucky you are to not only have survived what you just experienced but also have a family. Still, touching as this is, we still have some other matters to discuss, namely how you missed your exams. You missed it by a week in fact. You gave us quite the scare there." I dreaded what will come next.

"Ma'am, I apologize… I made some stupid decisions. I can't excuse myself for what I've done. I just ask you not to direct your ire at my family." I've already accepted that there will be consequences to what I've done. I just don't want my family getting dragged to the mess I made.

Silence reigned between us as the elderly Vereza staring me down. Her cold analytic eyes boring into my very soul yet I remain firm. Squaring up my jaw, I was prepared to take what she had in store for me.

"Good. Singed, when is the boy fit enough to do the exam?" Hope bubbled up my chest at her words

"With the potion regimen I'm subjecting him, a week at best." Singed replied as he reached for me and shone some light at me. I winced as I closed my eyes. Intellectually, I knew the light he used was soft to the eyes yet my eyes felt like they just stared at the sun itself. "Interesting." The revered scientist replied as he went back to his notes.

She nodded before she looked back at me. "Oh don't think you're off the hook yet mister. While your missed exam is inconsequential at best, your hospital bill is another talking matter. Corina, list down the expenses so far." I quickly paled as Corina started listing them down.

My eyes boggled just at how much potions was used to keep me stable as well as how much was needed to purge me of the toxins. Suffice to say, I was pumped with enough drugs to keep an entire lab employed for months on end and that was just the medicine alone. Even Jinx winced at the cost.

"However, I'm not a cruel mistress to ask you the amount now nor do I ever expect you to be able to pay it in full. Still, I'm curious how you'll exactly pay for this?"

"I…" My mind balked at just how much debt I was in. Still, I knew a lot of things from a past that was more advanced than the present I found myself in. I was surrounded by geniuses and it'll be only a matter of finding people to help me remake products.

"Ma'am, this promise might sound hollow to your ears but I have a lot of ideas for the future. They're ideas that I could bring to life and I offer them to you. I offer these ideas until my debts are paid." While inventors and scholars were tied to their patrons, their ideas were still theirs. I was basically forfeiting my rights to these products and having the Vereza's own everything. I… I could live with that given that I would more than likely live on a stipend.
"I've already heard a thousand inventors whisper sweet nothings into my ears. What makes your ideas any more special than theirs?" She challenged me, daring me to prove her wrong. I wracked my brain on any ideas that could easily be invented and implemented given what I had and then the idea hit me

"Well, you have a highly decorated researcher and scientist beside you right now to verify my ideas." I replied. Vi looked at me in worry as if to tell how this could easily backfire but I looked at her with a confident smile. No words were exchanged but she knew that all I asked of her was to trust me on this one.

Singed hair less brow rose up but he looked intrigued. Corina looked back at the much taller man who replied to my words. "Go on then boy, show us what you have in store."

I breathed in as I gave my pitch. It was my second time making such a pitch but I was confident. There in that room I made a quick pitch on the merits of freeze drying. The method was simple, freeze then dry it. All I needed was a freezing spell and a way to make a vacuum. Just above us was the City of Progress so it wouldn't be too hard to find. Once the food is frozen, all you need to do is slowly thaw the thing in a vacuum and let the water sublimate into water particles.

Singed remained quite a while before he slowly spoke. "His idea… has merit. Yes, it can be done right now in fact."

"So long as the food isn't structurally sensitive, it can be freeze dried. Forget about canning when you have powdered soup." I said confidently.

"Powdered soup? That doesn't sound appetizing" Jinx said as she mulled over the idea of powdered soup.

"Well, you just add water back to it, of course." I replied with confident ease.

I looked back at the baroness hoping that she approved of it. I knew I would never get to see a penny of this invention, aside from getting stipends of course, but I was so deep in debt that I'm forced into this position. She held all the cards while I was forced to play her game. With a small nod, I felt the weight on my shoulder lightened.

"While most of the technical details passed over my head, I caught enough of it to see the implications. The mere fact that tall, pale, and handsome over here thinks your invention is worth something speaks for itself." She replied.

"We'll have to get this on paper but it seems that you're not all talk after all" I nodded at that before I leaned against Vi, feeling a bit drained from it all.

"Now, enough business, why don't we talk about the Void born incident. Void research, bird brain wasn't only stupid but was also insane" She then said, changing the subject of the matter. The memories of the fight were still etched into my mind. I was still… afraid. "So let's start at the beginning shall we?"

The beginning, huh? "Would you want to know why I went after the baron or how he transformed into that thing… is it dead?" There was hope there, in my voice.

"Oh, he's plenty dead alright." She replied

Singed soon spoke up about it. "I had people harvest his corpse for research. See, while research about the void is frowned upon, his flesh still holds valuable data that could help cure afflictions and maladies caused by it."

I nodded, feeling relieved that it wasn't merely a dream. Looking at my girlfriend, I began telling my tale with a question "So Vi, should we talk about how all of this started?".

She was still injured, if only partially now. Her stomach was still bandaged but they were soaked with blood. Vi nodded, agreeing to tell our tale.

"It all started one foggy day when Vi went to her boss to quit. Being a messenger is an ok job but circumstances were changing and there we were getting the opportunity of a lifetime to move up in life..." And so our tale was told. I told them as much as I could like how I fought the beast named Warwick, on how I almost lost Vi, and how I went off looking for revenge only to find myself biting off more than I could chew. I kept my encounter close to my chest, hoping to tell it to Jinx and Vi later.

Vi and Jinx interjected their part of their story, about how Vi got beaten up and how Jinx worried about us. Vi told us how I rescued her and she got patched up only to find out that I got myself in trouble without her.

"This is the last time I'll ever leave you two alone. The moment I was out of commission, you just went crazy." Vi said while I was left scratching my head in embarrassment.

"Yes dear..." I said, suitably chastised.

Jinx's side of the story was a rather chaotic affair partly with how she went off on tangents as well as how she embellished her story but she had a knack for things as we sat there listening with rapt attention to her.

"...So there I was crawling through the vents before finding myself in their armory. Like Bilbo and the dwarves I found treasure as far as I could see! Row after row of guns!"

"Bilbo and the Dwarves?" Corina asked

"It's Jinx's favorite story." I said, trying to brush it off as Jinx powered through and went off on another tangent.

"Oh yeah! The Hobbit is so good, I could keep listening to it over and over again especially the sequel about the Lord of the Rings. It's right behind Star Wars really..." my sister rambled.

"Oh? Maybe your brother can tell his tale? Maybe write a book about it? Even a play, perhaps?" The crafty old woman suggested making my ears burn. They really weren't mine to begin with and how can I even try to recreate it…

"Yeah! Can you do it, Ark? Can you! Can you?" Oh bother.

Still, it was quite freeing? Refreshing? I'm not sure what the word is to express how things got a bit lighter after I let it all out. It took a while, long enough in fact that one of Singed's assistants came by to give us some drinks and snacks.

"And that's how it went down." I said as I drank my cup of tea, enjoying the aroma as well as its bitter taste. I would have eaten one of the biscuits if not for Jinx. She loved the stuff and was only half restrained from stuffing her with the sweet treats. Looking at the selection of sweets they have, I wonder if they had chocolate. That was something to think of for later.

"It's quite the tale you just told. I'm glad this Warwick individual was taken care of. To think they could just waltz in my streets and do as they please. If we find the arm you described, consider having parts of your debt further forgiven." She replied as she took a sip from her own drinks.

"It is, isn't it ma'am?" It almost felt like a fairy tale all things considered yet I lived through it

"Hopefully we never go through something like that again" Vi added. I nodded at that, agreeing to it wholeheartedly. I dare not think what would happen if I ever have to live through that again.

"Well, as entertaining as this was, I still have important business to attend to" She replied as she sat down her cup of tea. "Your story proved to be quite the insight on how things devolved into that. I'd like to thank you for your time"

She stood up, followed quickly by her niece, before walking away. Before she passed through the door, she turned around and said "I almost forgot to ask. Where do you live exactly?"

I hesitated for a bit, not knowing why she wanted to ask but I still answered her question. "Well we were planning to move to an apartment in your district..."

"Tell the landlord you found better accommodations. Corina, do we own any housing properties near the Boundary Market?" She asked Corina.

"Yes grandmother, several in fact." The young girl answered, almost sounding professional.

"Find the closest one to the college and give it to them. Make sure to remind the caretaker that they live there at our leisure." VI and I sucked in our breath at her words. This was something else.

"Isn't that on the Promenade level?" Jinx asked. The Promenade was the closest to Piltover. It was where the two cities touched and met. It was almost too much yet I knew that she wasn't joking around. Corazon smiled and nodded to which Jinx asked her. "Can I call you Grandma?"

The woman laughed as she replied "Yes you may, Jinx. Yes you may".

"Expect the keys to your new home to be handed to you once you're fit enough to work again" With that, she went away, leaving us dumb struck at both the misfortune and fortune we just had.

"She always does leave people breathless." Singed replied with a fond smile making us all blanch a bit. That mental image was best left undescribed and left forgotten. He laughed out loudly at the faces we made. Jerk.

"Now, I'd like to pick up where we left off last time. Most of this would concern what effects the river had on your body. I'd like to discuss it with you without the young ladies' presence?" He glanced at Jinx who pouted at that. He sighed as he added "No young lady, you don't need to worry. Your brother's mostly fine, what I'd like to discuss is a bit more sensitive..."

I titled my head as he gave me that look. He briefly glanced down at his feet which made me realize what it might be about.

"I think the assistant still had some treats with them..."

"Really?!" And off she went. Singed gave me a flat look to which I shrugged in reply.

He rolled his eyes as he went off to find a medical diagram of the body. Pointing at it, he started to explain. "By now you already know how the river mixed with all those chems have altered your body. Your sense has gone and become far more sensitive than baseline. That is what we know so far on the mutations that happened inward on the outward however…"
He hesitated a bit before continuing "Your… equipment was altered. It seems that a lot of horses were processed and experimented on in the factory above resulting in such a mutation."

Vi and I blinked at that before I blushed brightly while Vi was left gaping at the implication. "We can remove it surgically-"

"No/NO!" Vi and shouted together turning our already red blush scarlet. I coughed before asking, trying to change the subject of the question. "Can we still have children though?"

"You still can make children, don't worry about it. It's just-" I cut him off before we get into more uncomfortable territories.

"Too much information, thank you!" It was a surprise alright, but not necessarily an unwelcome one. Singed shrug as he continued on.

"Now, on the matter of prosthetics, there's a lot on the market..." Our talks with the doctor went on for a while. Still, I was grateful for how things turned out today. For once, things turned out ok and I hoped things stayed that way till we're ready for the next time things turn sideways.

A/N:

So Ark becomes even more entangled with the Veraza's. My attempts on Carrot and Stick diplomacy comes into play. The application of soft power is a delicate thing and Ark's experiencing it. Still, it is Carrot and Stick so he does get something here. Also, lol, finally added that one thing I've been looking to add. Hopefully, this satisfy your craving as we are now in the closing stage of Act 1. I'd like to thank my one and only patreon meddler88 for encouraging me enough to write this chapter as well Vyor for being the best BETA reader I could ask for. Well, see you guys next week.

Recovery wasn't as easy as Singed said it would be. I was in a great deal of pain most of the time which compounded the difficulty of adjusting to my new balance as well as getting used to my senses. However, as difficult as it was, I had Vi and Jinx supporting me every step of the way.

"Ok, just one last test! Once you finish this, I heard Singed's going to allow you back home." Vi encouraged me as I held on the wall for support.

"The faster you learn how to walk again, the faster we can strap something on your new arm and legs!" Shouted Jinx making me chuckle. Looking down, I clenched the fingers of my replacement hand.

My right arm and right legs were gone and in place of them were simple powered prostheses. They weren't the best in the market but they were not the worst either. They were as bog standard as you can get which made them heavy and clunky. The weight was throwing me off but it was still better than not being able to stand and write at all.

Right ahead was one of the many halls of Singed's building. The man's laboratory was a large complex right at the heart of Zaun. He had a lot of space for someone whose allegiance is only to himself. With great effort, I powered onward. I let go of the wall as I walked forward. Step after step, I kept going until I finally reached the end of the hall. There, I was greeted by a great big hug by both Vi and Jinx.

"I'm so proud of you right now, Ark." Vi whispered as a warm smile stretched across her face. All that effort was worth it just to see her smile.

"It took you quite a while, huh?" Jinx asked as she and Vi pulled back from our group hug. I gently stroked her hair with my prosthetic hands. Having no tactile feedback made it difficult to do things but I made due.

"Yeah. It's not like it's a race. I'd rather walk slowly and stay upright rather than fall flat on my face." I replied.

"Think you can walk to Singed's office with us?" Vi asked with a teasing grin to which I replied with a gentle punch on the shoulder.

"Ow, now look who's the violent one!" Vi said in mock pain as she held onto her shoulder.

"And here I thought I was the comedian." I replied as I leaned close and gave her a chaste kiss on the lips. Jinx gagged at the sight as she faked barfing.

"Ewww! Why do you guys keep kissing?" She asked.

"You'll understand when you're older…" I stopped for a bit, thinking about it before adding a quick request. "Just make sure you tell us who you'll give your first kiss to, right Vi?".

"Yeah, we'll make sure to give them a piece of our mind." Vi chuckled darkly as she cracked her knuckles while I grinned back. Oh we'll give them a piece of our mind alright.

"One, ewww. Two, boys are icky." Jinx answered back before blowing a raspberry at us.
"You never know~ Who knows? Maybe you'll find someone in the future." I teased back.

Jinx rolled her eyes at that before she reached out and wrapped her hand around our shoulders. "Why would I look for a boyfriend when I have you two! We'll be forever together ok?".

"Awwww, come here you!" Vi puckered her lips as she threatened to kiss Jinx on the cheeks. Our little sister cried in surprise as she tried to lean away only for her other cheek to meet my lips. She froze allowing Vi to plant a kiss on her cheeks as well.

We laughed as Jinx groaned out before pulling away from our hold and stomped away fuming. She was so cute with how red she was. She was too precious at times and that just makes me want to hug her and hold her. She deserves to be the happiest girl in Zaun.

We joked a bit more before heading for Singed's lab. Even if I'm getting used to walking with my new leg, I still need to use a cane to walk around. I'll get rid of it eventually, but for now I was stuck with it.

I knocked on the door to his office and he called out to us. "Come in".

All three of us filtered in, making great care not to make too much noise as the inventor worked on something, before closing the door behind us. His lab wasn't what I expected. I thought there would be more cages and maybe some human experimentation but it was just a normal chemistry lab filled with mundane beakers and flasks. The only thing that stood out were containers and instruments used for Chems.

"Ahhh, Ark and family. I was expecting you three today. It has been a week hasn't it?" He asked as he set down the instrument he was using and turned his attention towards us. There in front of him was a bowl of soup next to a beaker full of powder.

"It has. Getting used to my new limbs can be challenging but I'm getting better with them." I replied. I didn't have to deal with the healing process too much thanks to healing potions. The wounds were easy to deal with but the pain wasn't something you could potion away unless you want to get addicted to painkillers.

I was no longer toppling over or accidentally breaking things with my grip. My limbs were a marvel of engineering. Cheap and relatively affordable. It was no automail but it was close. Powered by small tanks of chems, my arm was just as good as my old one if you ignored how bad my fine control was or how I could no longer feel with my right hand.

I had to learn to do stuff with my left hand but I almost had a month to do stuff and a half month in Singed's Lab was making me antsy. I missed the world outside and I missed Whump and Mr Floofington.

"Now, I expect you to come back here every month so we can continue monitoring your health. The long term effects of your accident are still unknown after all. Also, take these every day." Singed said as he stood up and pulled out a small bottle of pills.

"Aren't you going back to Noxus by the end of this month?" I asked. I seemed to have been mistaken about the Ionian war. It wasn't about to happen but it already is in full swing, I just hadn't noticed it. The recent uptick in the economy was more of a result of the war ramping up. While the Noxian War Machine is powerful, one could say it's industrial heart just can't quite keep up which made it necessary to buy from Zaun.

"I was until my attention was needed elsewhere. While the deal with Noxus was lucrative, things here can be just as lucrative." He replied as he gestured at the steaming bowl of soup to which I nodded.

"On the matter of your medication. They're used to deal with the pain but don't take too much at one time. They can be quite potent." He warned me. I wasn't one to go against a doctor's order as I nodded.

"While I would say that you're ready to take the exam, you can rest for several days before going back to the Vereza's. It could take years before you get used to your new limbs so do be careful." He said before waving us off. "Miss Vi, do keep him out of trouble."

With that, I was discharged without much fanfare. I was given my wings or what was left of them, a twisted piece of scrap metal. I needed to make a new set of wings. My old clothes didn't fare any better, but thankfully I was given some spares. A bit baggy but I could grow into them, or so I hoped. I was starting to have my doubts when Jinx started getting taller than I was.

I missed a lot of things in my time in the hospital. While Vi and Jinx watched over me, one of them still needed to go back to our little hole in the ground to make sure no one was going to steal our stuff which we had yet to move to our new home.

Speaking of home, I still need to get back to work so I could get the keys as well as tell them when I'm ready to do the exams. I was sorely tempted to get to work and take the exam as soon as possible just so we can have a better place to call home.

There was also the topic of Jinx's birthday, which is getting quite close already. We had barely a week to prepare for it and it was hard to keep it a surprise for her but we managed to discuss things when she was asleep.

"Let's go back home" I said with a certain fondness to it. Even if it was almost a literal hole in the ground, it was still home after all.

"Race you there!" Jinx whooped as she ran off on her own leaving Vi and I gaping in her wake.
"Jinx! Come back here!" Vi shouted, almost ready to run after her only to stop and sighed, exasperated at our sister's almost boundless energy. Shaking her head, she walked with me as we tried to catch up to her.

"Eh, let her have her fun. Plus, we could talk about her birthday." I said to which Vi nodded in agreement.

"Actually yeah. What do you have planned? Our budget's kinda strained right now, though we do have some extra silver cogs to spend because we no longer need to make a deposit on our planned apartment." I was out of work while I recovered and Vi had yet to find a new job. We still had the gold from my allowance however, but even then; that was getting strained. I needed to get back to work as soon as possible.

"Thinking of buying her a small cake. Nothing special really. Just something sweet for her to nibble on." I replied. I already had something in mind. I just needed to fix my wings to get there. Either that or I'd need to walk all the way there and I didn't fancy my chances of outrunning overly vigilant enforcers. It's goddamn profiling, that's what they do.

Before Vi could reply, Jinx came running back at us. "Come on you two! I swear Mr Floofington and Whump really miss us. Cindy's house is nice and all but those two need action. They need adventure!". The smile on her face was as radiant as the sun and those big doe eyes of hers just captured how fragile innocence was.

"Well, you heard the girl." I then said as I looked at Vi. Vi snorted in amusement as she lifted me off my feet, sweeping me away like the princess in a story. Now it was now my turn to turn red as Vi carried me off.

"Come on Vi, I could walk you know..." I said as I tried to convince her to put me down.

"Well you did say you want to get there faster, right?" Vi replied, making me cover my face out of embarrassment. People were already staring. I wouldn't be able to live this down would I?

"Enough flirting, more running!" Jinx shouted as she led the way.

Getting back home was always a welcome feeling. The familiar scent and the sight of the worn out second hand furniture made me feel safe. As we settled down, I held onto our animal companions and showered them with kisses.

"I'm never going to leave you two ever again." I whispered as I held onto the two. They might struggle and gasp in my hold, but I'm sure they're just breathless about getting to see us again.

I eventually let them go as we looked around so we could start packing up. While we still didn't have the apartment yet, it wasn't bad to prepare for the eventual move. We were just doing this to burn off the excess excitement after all.

We got to work pretty soon and we started packing up. Sifting through the junk we had brought me down memory lane. It had been a wild few months. In the past 6 months, we went from total strangers sharing the same hole for shelter to loving family. We packed things in neat little piles in the boxes which used to be my makeshift furniture. The scraps we gathered to make my primitive device. The actual furniture we bought, small used chairs we'd eventually carry to our new home. I even pulled out the small box that we found the namestone in.

There was still a being inside here and I wasn't sure what I could do. I didn't exactly know where this one came from but I knew they came from Shurima. Maybe I'll go there one day to return them? That was still a far off prospect however as I still didn't have any income that was big enough to allow me to make such a trip.

My attention was soon caught as Vi raised her voice "Jinx, where did you get this?".

There in Vi's hand was a familiar weapon that I wouldn't simply forget. It was that same hand held gatling gun which Jinx used when she came to my rescue.

"You kept that thing?" I asked, surprise tinting my voice. I knew she liked guns but I didn't know she'd drag that thing through several kilometers of tunnels.

"Yeah! I named her Pow Pow! Well, I'm still kinda unsure about the name. I thought of naming her Galadriel but she lacks the grace for it. Maybe Princess Pow?" Jinx grabbed the gun and held it close to her like it was a prized possession. Well, it was that far off considering how expensive they were in the market. It no longer had the same Copper color it once had and was now painted purple. It was still far too big and unmodified for that particular version but it was slowly turning that way.

"I wasn't lying when I told you guys I made this bad girl! She was mounted in this beautifully carved carriage but she wasn't being used so I took her away!" She babbled on before she set it down. It, or rather she I suppose, was an impressive piece of Chemtech Machinery. A tri-barreled gatling gun sporting a chemtech battery to power the rotary engine. She currently lacked bullets... right?

Vi and I stared at the gun for a while before Vi spoke up "I… you know what, I'm kinda proud you took this gun back home. Good job I guess?".

There were almost no rules in Zaun after all. Owning a gun was almost as universal as owning a sword or a knife. Jinx had just decided that a simple pistol wouldn't be good enough so she took the biggest baddest gun she could get. Considering how crazy our little family is, Pow Pow isn't exactly that unusual. I do love my family.

Getting back to work was an experience all on its own. It was almost a return to normality of sorts. There were new faces as well old familiar faces who greeted me when I came back. It felt good being able to work again even if I was slightly handicaped.

Meeting the boss was a bit nerve wracking but after all that had happened, it seemed almost kinda funny how I felt quite afraid of meeting Carmen Vereza again. As the Vereza matriarch promised, I was given the keys to my new apartment along with an unexpected surprise.

"Here's the key to your apartment and here's a week's wage." I stared numbly at the small sack pressed into my hand. I could feel the coins inside.

"But I missed work…?" I replied but held my tongue at the last second. I regret saying those words now that my boss turned her attention towards me once again. Sick leaves weren't a thing in Zaun. You work, you get paid. You get sick, too bad.

"I'll be honest Mr. Ark, it's not something I usually do but it's been a tough month without you in the Tropical Garden. Just think of it as a bonus for coming back." She replied, making me snort in amusement. The high humidity and heat did deter a lot of the garden hands even before the recent events.

"I could only imagine ma'am" She rolled her eyes at my response.

"I assume that you can do your exam within this week?" She asked to which I nodded. She then addde "Do know that this is your second and last shot so do not fuck this up. Are we clear?".

"Yes ma'am." I replied, leaving any humor out of my answer. I could only imagine what they had to do to get me rescheduled. I didn't want to disappoint.

With that, she waved me off but before I got out of her office, she called for me. "By the way Mr Ark, it's good to have you back" She said with a soft smile on her face. I returned a smile of my own as I left her office. It was good to be back.

The exams were a short and brutal affair. The College of Techmaturgy clearly expected excellence in their students, as I could see some topics one could expect from college education to filter in. It might also be this way to remove any applicant's who couldn't afford to get a good education but that might just be over-thinking on my part.

There were dozens of applicants with me when I took the exam. There in a large lecture hall, we were made to sit and answer the exam while under the gaze of an ever vigilant proctor. I felt like there would have been more students here taking the exams but circumstances might have pushed our group into taking the exams later.

It might have been my nerves but I almost felt like I was being watched from every direction. It was either that or there were magical shenanigans involved. Still, I didn't let that affect me as I answered away.

There were no multiple choice answers, there were just questions and alot of essays involved. Everything felt like it was made to make examinee's choke under the pressure. The silent scribbling of quill filled the room while a loud mechanical clock ticked in the background.

I grumbled silently as I was forced to write with my left hand. Ball point pens should be easy to make, right?

It might have just been the longest six hours of my life before the exam finally finished. I left the room without the burden of worrying about any more future exams and knowing that I was already halfway to fulfilling my end of the bargain with the Vereza's. I just needed to wait till the result of the exams was mailed to our address.

With that little out of the way, there was one last thing to do in my agenda today. Two actually but that would be for much later.

"Freedom!" Jinx cried out as we walked through the busy Entresol crowd. The city of glass and steel never truly sleeps making almost every single waking hour a busy one.

"Why does it sound like you're the one that took my exam?" I asked, half amused at how happy she looked.

"I might as well have with how long we waited!" She fired back.

"It wasn't that bad" Vi then said.

"It was six hours long. For a girl like me, it might as well have been forever! We just sat there along with the parents and guardians."

"Didn't you make friends with one of the kids?" Vi asked and this got me all curious.

"Oh?" I asked, genuine interest in my voice.

"They were nice until they asked where I was born. Stupid bitch got all snobby at me." Jinx said, pouting and clearly upset from the encounter. It was annoying but it was a common thing among the richer people of Zaun.

"Well, scratch that then. They don't know what they were missing when they said no to my cute little sister." Vi said as she pulled her into a tight hug.

"It's alright Jinx. I'm sure she didn't know better." I added before giving her a much deserved head pat. She needs cheering up and it just so happened today was her birthday as well.

"Well, it's getting late so let's go home. I think there's still some biscuits from yesterday in the pantry." I said as I glanced over to Vi conspiratorially. She smiled back and nodded. Jinx was oblivious to our silent exchange as she picked up her pace.

We headed for the Rising Howl to get back home. The massive elevator was a sight to behold. Paying for the fee, we slipped in without any problem. There in the middle of the crowd, a thought then hit me.

"Hey Vi, did you ever take that crazy rite of passage stuff the other kids kept talking about?" I asked her as we felt the mechanical contraption come to life.

"You mean the challenge to become one of the big kids? Yeah, what about it?" Vi replied easily as the elevator started moving up.

"Does riding inside the Rising Howl count?"

"Wait, you haven't done any of it? Seriously?"

"What? I kinda feel they're stupid. Who wants to risk a limb just for a dare?"

"Of all the people, really?"

"Wait, Ark hasn't done any of the challenges yet?" Jinx suddenly piped up making me turn towards her in disbelief.

"Am I the only one that hasn't done those challenges?" I asked incredulously.

"Umm duh?" Jinx looked at me like I was the crazy one

"You know what, I say this counts. If it doesn't I just fly up to the top of old Hungry."

"But that's cheating!" Shouted Vi as she laughed at the thought. Old Hungry was the hardest challenge to deal with. After all, how'd you climb atop a giant mechanical clock tower if you don't have access to the service hatch? It seems that it didn't account for any of the kids that could fly.

"They never said you can't fly to the top of the tower." I replied with a smug smile on my face. It was then that the Rising Howl finally reached the Promenade Level and we had to get off

The trip to our new home was a relatively quiet affair. There, nestled far away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of the Promenade was our quaint little apartment. It was merely a five story building just beneath the very streets of Piltover itself. We could literally climb up to Piltover if we ever wanted to

Climbing up the stairs, I smiled widely as Jinx led the way. Up we went, up the stairs until we reached the third floor. We were nestled between several noisy neighbors from all sides but it was worth the free rent.

Jinx pulled out the key from her pocket and opened the door. There she was greeted by the cheers of both Bob and Cindy with cake in hand.

"Surprise!" We all shouted as banners and streamers decorated the whole room. It was bigger than our old home and barely furnished at this point but it was home as we knew it. A big banner with the words "Happy 12th Nameday Jinx!" painted across the fabric.

She stood there for a second before tears started streaming out of her eyes. We sort of panicked as Vi and I pulled her into a hug. That was when the floodgates opened and she bawled her eyes out.

"What's wrong? Don't you like it?" I asked

"Did something get in your eyes?" Vi asked while Cindy walked over to us in concern

Jinx rubbed the corners of her eyes as she replied "N-No, I like it. I-I like it a lot. I-its just that I'm so happy right now."

"Come one Jinx, don't joke like that. You're making me cry as well!" Vi was starting to tear up as well.

We held her all the tighter as I found myself crying as well. We cried in happiness knowing that our lives had changed for the better. We narrowly averted disaster and now here we were inside an apartment in the Promenade celebrating the birthday of one of our own. Things had been a roller coaster and we just let our emotions flow.

Eventually, we managed to pull ourselves from each other and finally got down to celebrating. We ate and made merry for today was a special day. I even sang an ever so familiar song that I never knew I'd get to sing again, getting me all sorts of looks but they were looks of happiness and of amusement. It was safe to say that at that moment, Jinx was the happiest girl in Zaun.

Soon the celebrations died down as Jinx fell asleep. Vi and I said goodbye to Cindy and Bob, and we were left alone in our apartment, cleaning up the mess from the small, yet fun, party.

As Vi was sweeping the floor while I picked up the dishes, I made my move. I needed to tell her the truth, of my origins and what I was. I couldn't keep things from her knowing how close we'd gotten.

"Vi, I need to tell you something important." I said, calling her attention

She froze up before turning towards me. "Yeah?"

I close my eyes, psyching myself up for my answer. Breathing out, I then said "Vi… I know this might sound crazy but… I'm not an ordinary boy. I remember my last life, I was reincarnated. I've been hiding this for a while but now I wanted to tell you about this secret."

Vi blinked as she stared at me while I started to sweat. I didn't know what to tell her even when I knew I had to tell her my secret. Her brows scrunched up in confusion before it turned into irritation as she gave me a punch in the shoulder

I hissed out as gently placed down the dishes before holding my poor aching shoulder.

"Owww." I groaned out

"What the hell was that! I thought you were going to propose to me and you dropped that bomb on me!" She half hissed out as she tried not to shout in fear of waking up Jinx.

"Sorry, well I was going to propose to you but I really felt like I needed to tell you this first!" I apologized. I couldn't forget my promise to her.

I stood there awkwardly as she fumed silently. Rubbing my shoulder, I asked her "So… does this change how you look at me?"

Vi looked at me for a second before asking "Are you still Ark?"

"Well yeah, I'm the same boy you punched in the tunnel" I answered back easily. How could I forget about that moment? Maybe it was love at first punch rather than first sight.

"Then does it matter? Come here you!" Grabbing me by the collar of my shirt, she pulled me in for a kiss once again. All my worries melted away as I kissed back.

This was my life now. You could be my happily ever after but life isn't always like that. There was still the future to look forward to. New challenges to face as well as new hurdles to overcome. As for what happens next? That will be a story for another time. For now though, I'll just enjoy life as it is right now.

End of Act 1

A/N:

So Act 1 comes to a close. All that's left is for the Epilogue of Act 1 before we move on to a time skip much closer to modern times but not quite yet. I don't have a solid plan for Act 2 yet but it will come to me soon enough. Kinda have a feeling that it'll be shorter than Act 1 but who knows. I think I'll explore more about how they're going to deal with the changes in their lives. There's a lot of things I could do but I'll leave it open ended for now. Anyways, been dealing with stuff IRL so the next Act might be delayed for a month. Not to worry cause I'll still make sure that the Epilogue drops 1 week for now but after that... I'll go rest for a bit.

Act 1 Epilogue

Jinx

Sometimes I wonder if the last few months have been all a fever dream and I was still in that alleyway but here I was in my bed, staring up at the painted ceiling of my room as I woke up from a long night's sleep.

I rubbed the sleep off my eyes as I slowly sat up and stretched. Mr Floofington started stretching as well as he got up from his simple bed near the window. He loved it there because he could bask in the sunlight in the morning.

"Morning, Mr Floofington." I greeted my companion. I got a yawn in response as he plodded towards the light and laid down. I spent some time staring at him, observing his grey fur under the bright light of the morning sun.

Sunlight, actual sunlight as the smog was lighter up here, was streaming through the window of my room while the sound of the busy street below filtered in. It almost felt unreal yet the rays of light illuminating my room was as real as it could get. I could hear the hustle and bustle of the city, how the people in the crowd talked to each other as well as the pneumatic hiss and whistle of the machinery that powers the city.

I could hear Ark and Vi teasing each other again from the kitchen of our little apartment. They're being all lovey dovey again. One gross, why do they have to be so icky about it?, and two… "I can hear you two!". I shouted as I threw my pillow at the door to emphasize my point. The muffled thump of my soft pillow against the wooden door only made them laugh.

Mr Floofington jumped in surprise before he gave me a look. Don't give me that look, you can clearly hear them, Mr Floofington. They keep going on and on and it's just… argh!

I groaned as I covered my face before slumping down on my bed again. Even if this was just a dream, I hope I never woke up from it. We were happy here, I was happy here… well mostly but that's for future me to consider as I need to get up.

"Breakfast's ready, Jinx!" Shouted Vi as I sniffed at the clean air inside our home. I could smell… sausage and tomatoes from here. Maybe they bought some eggs as well.

"Eat it while it's hot." Ark said soon after. I really need to get up now

Slowly, I sat up and looked around my room. Saying those words, "my room", felt weird but I love it. The soft blue poster I chose for the room brightened the place up. There on my desk was Princess Pow and beside her sat Mister Sparkles. I still needed to tune her up, make her spin faster and fire faster as you can never have enough firepower. There was also a large wardrobe in my room but it's mostly empty because it's not like I have much to wear. I mostly keep my other stuff there to keep the place mostly clean.

Getting up from bed was a chore on its own as well. I had a bed of my own with a wooden frame and a soft mattress which makes waking up harder now. I just want to lay down and sleep and eat here but food is not going to walk to me. I jumped from my bed and landed on the cold wooden floor. It took me a while to figure out where I tossed my boots but I found them soon enough before I headed out to clean myself with Mr Floofington right behind me.

I looked at my reflection as I washed my face. I combed through my knee length locks of blue hair while blue eyes stared back intently at me. My hair was getting absurdly long but I kinda liked it. I shuffled to our kitchen before plopping down on one of the chairs.

"Had a good night's sleep?" asked Ark as he placed a plate of eggs, sausage and bread along with some slices of tomatoes in front of me. My mouth watered at the sight. Vi was gulping down her meal while Ark was busy cleaning the kitchen area. Mr Floofington sat in front of his bowl while Whump was busy chowing down on a plate of young Puffcap Mushrooms.

"Yeah, it's good. Weirdest dream though. There were two monkeys that kept grunting and jumping on the bed. The squeaking noise was annoying." I replied as I started eating, taking out large bites out of my meal. I tasted a lot of garlic in my sausages and the eggs were just cooked right with the yolk perfect for dipping.

Vi and Ark started choking, coughing as both of them downed a glass of water. I stared back at them feeling all confused. What was that about? Eh, probably just the two being weird again. The meal was mostly uneventful.

"So, we're going to go somewhere-" Vi started, trailing off as she looked towards Ark as if asking him to explain. I cut them off and replied

"If you two are going somewhere where you're going to be lovey dovey, can you atleast give me the choice to stay home?" Having to watch them go to a temple all for Ark to give Vi a stupid ring was bad enough. I do not want a repeat of that. "Come on, I'm already 12 and you two are like… 15 right? I have my wants and you have yours so why don't you go out while I have my own fun here!"

The two looked unsure but old tricks should help here. "Pretty please? I'll behave and clean my room."

Vi was the one to relent as she shrugged. "She is old enough."

"Are you sure Jinx? We could go somewhere else. It is the weekends" Ark said. The two really wanted to go out right now.

"I'll be fine. When was the last time I got in trouble?" I asked, my innocent angelic voice in no way faked.

"When you punched this one Piltovan kid" Ark said with a deadpan look

"He was asking for it!" Stupid prick being all high and mighty

"And when you made graffiti and were caught by the enforcers." Vi added.

"Ok… that was on me. I should have known they were faster than me but can you give me another chance? Please?" I begged them, just wanting out right now.

Ark sighed as he looked at Vi who nodded at him. "Fine but if we have another Enforcer knock on our door again, I swear to Janna..." The threat was made clear and I wasn't one to try and break it.

"Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye." I was going to be a good girl… mostly but they don't have to know. The two nodded before they gave me a pouch of coins to spend things on.

"We'll be back before sundown. Here's some money in case you want to buy some sweets. Make sure to avoid the bakery at the corner." Ark stated seriously.

"Because they add plaster in their cake. I could taste it, it was horrible" I shuddered at the memory. All that money down the drain.

A few kisses and hugs later, much to my disgust, and I was left to my own devices. I stared at their retreating form from the window of our home. The two were holding hands while Vi had her arms around Ark's shoulder. I want to be honest, I kinda wanted to be with them.

They looked like they're having fun and it's not like hanging out with them isn't half bad. It's just they're too icky with how close they were. I'd rather hang out with either one of them than both of them at the same time. I might be a bit biased but I kinda want to hang out with Ark more. Vi's my older sister and all but Ark's fun to be around with. He tells better stories, knows a lot of things and he doesn't smother me as much as Vi does.

I shook my head out of my musing as I got ready to head out on my own. "Whump, Mr Floofington, I'll be going out. Keep the house safe while I'm gone ok? I'll bring some treats!"

I slipped out of our home, making sure I had a copy of our key and door locked nice and tight before I went out to the streets below.

It was perfect up here... almost perfect rather, because I was lonely up here. Who knew moving away from the Sumps meant I had to say goodbye to some friends. I tried to make friends here but… it didn't go well. I saw one of the kids running away from me and I winced at the sight of the bald spot in his hair. It was just a simple alchemic fire, who knew their clothes were far more flammable than I was used to. At least I had Cindy to talk too but Cindy's down at the Sumps helping the kids there with her father. Someone had to help people there.

I pouted as I headed to my favorite bridge. They had all sorts of stalls and shops here plus the street performers were leagues better than people below. People actually smiled here for once. Buying some candied apples, I sat down in one of the benches and watched people walk by.

The sun was out, the wind felt cool to the skin and people were having fun. It was a nice day today, I just wish I had someone to talk to.

"Hey…mind if I sit with you?" I blinked as I turned to a girl with bubblegum pink hair shyly smiling at me. I tilted my head.

"Ummm… sure?" I wasn't quite sure how to respond. She doesn't look shady but never know

"Sorry, I just keep hearing this new song and I wanted to listen." There wasn't any musician out here right now which is kinda weird

"What song?" I asked

"Well, your song. It kinda goes like this." The girl hummed where I sat while hearing this beautiful chaotic tone yet bubbly tone that just made me want to blow stuff up. She stopped soon after as she added, "My mom said I shouldn't talk about it but your song's just so loud and fun I can't help myself babble and talk and… I'm going to shut up now."

I stared at her for a bit before replying "You're weird but who am I to judge. You're weird but in a good way."

"Thank you?" She started, a confused look on her face.

"Name's Jinx, what's yours?" I asked I scooted over to the side to give her space to sit down

"Seraphine." She replied as she sat down.

"Wanna spray paint some walls?" I asked, grinning on the inside.

"...Sure?" I smirked as I felt this was going to be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Jhin

I sat silently in the middle of my prison. It's four corners a comforting sight as I sat there, meditating and in peace. This prison was here to contain me and my wardens sought to cure me yet I do not see any reason for intervention. What use is a doctor if there's nothing to cure. I was both healthy in mind and in body. I was merely an artist expressing his art. It's just that my canvas can be a bit unorthodox.

I often pity them, wondering how they could live such dull imperfect lives. I could free them yet I held my tongue, knowing that they didn't see things my way. How can they when they're blind to their own imperfection, their senses numbed and their minds unable to comprehend how utterly flawed they were.

There was nothing I could do however. I neither have the tools nor the freedom to cure them. All I had was the mattress I was given bundled safely in the corner as well as a simple mat for me to meditate on. At Least they didn't deny me such comfort when I was willing to entertain their song and dance.

Why do they think that I do not meditate? Meditation allows me to visualize my art and allows me to finish it to perfection. The silence along with the darkness helped me lose myself, the soft steady light of the crystal lights the only illumination I had in my cell.

I counted down, waiting for my warden to come to my cell to deliver my daily meal. They always come down the same time and the same day with the same meal. A simple bowl of rice, some tofu, some vegetables and a cup of tea. The perfect amount yet lately the portions had been getting smaller.

Right on cue, the heavy footsteps of my warden echoed down the hallway yet something was odd. There was another set of footsteps following my heavyset warden, a much lighter foot step. They didn't have the gait of a woman, no, the visitor was a man and probably bent with age thanks to the cane I hear along with their footsteps

"Are you sure you want to stay with the prisoner? I mean no disrespect counselor, but I fear for your safety." I was flattered by my warden's concern.

"It's fine, Master Warden. I want to talk to the prisoner alone." Replied the old raspy voice of a wizened man well beyond his prime.

There standing in front of my cell was quite the important man and it would be rude not to bow. Standing up slowly, my legs almost having fallen asleep in my meditation, I gave a low bow to the old man. My eyes wandered over his cane, marveling at the deadly implement hidden in plain sight

"How can I be of service, Councilor? For such an esteemed statesman to visit me, it must be quite the occasion" I greeted the old man as I straightened up. The man was short, old and wrinkled yet there was fire in his eyes and steel in his hands

"Have some respect for the Council representative of Kashuuri!" Shouted the warden as he jabbed me with his heavy staff. I was almost bent over by the pain of the staff hitting my ribs as I stumbled back.

The council member merely stared as he commanded "Leave."

"But Councilor-!" The warden protested, anger in his voice clear but not directed at the old man.

"I do not need to repeat myself, Warden." Replied the old man and the warden shut his mouth as he bowed before leaving little old me and the councilor in front of me. There was a heavy bang as the door leading to my solitary cell closed behind the warden.

"So, the Golden Demon. Mass murderer and Assassin." the man in front of me said, as he stared at me.

"I prefer the title of artist, councilor." I replied. It was what I was after all. There was no need to

"Ah yes, you do have a penchant for turning your victims into an art piece." I heard a certain tinge of disgust in his tone but rarely do people appreciate the macabre.

"Aren't they beautiful?" I asked, already knowing the answer he would give.

"...yes." Liar liar yet I do appreciate how they try to compliment my work. Still, this must be more than just a regular visit. There must be something they want

"So I'll ask again, councilor, how may I be of service?" I asked, voice aloof and far from interested. More than one of us could lie.

"Ionia needs your services, demon." The counselor replied, voice hard as onyx.

Oh that cracks me up. I chuckled, wondering if this was just a joke yet the serious look on his face only made me laugh out loudly. "I'm a threat to "balance" of the spirits and humanity. I'm not sure even a councilor like you could free me when the Kinkou's the one that imprisoned me." The shadow order that helps maintain "order" in Ionia. While others see the Kinkou's as heroes, all I see are a bunch of idiots running around with inelegant weapons while trying to hide in the shadows.

"I might not be powerful enough alone, but a cabal of like minded people might be." That got my eye brow rising, piquing my interest.

"You must be quite desperate seeking help from me." It was the truth. Only a desperate man would grab the edge of the blade and the frown on his face all but confirmed my suspicion

"Things... have become difficult in the past few months. The Noxian embargo is a tightening noose around Ionia. Their armies march across our lands and even if our people deny them of every opportunity to gather food from the land, it seems that they have other sources, sources that aren't so easily spoiled or destroyed." He explained as he paced in front of my cage

"The army might be powerful but its head isn't invincible. We need someone… of your talent to infiltrate their lines and… perform. It won't just be their commander's Khada Jhin, you'll also be sent to other places like Bilgewater and Zaun. Chaos needs to reign in Bilgewater while Zaun needs some of its best and brightest dealt with." The old man explained, fire in his eyes.

"Tempting, tempting." I hummed, all too happy to how things were going but it seems that old man still had more to say

"We also heard of your need for perfection. The armory of Kashuuri is at your disposal." I smiled, I truly smiled at that point. Finally, a patron for my art despite their… lack of understanding.

The smile stretching across my face must have been terrifying as he backed away in shock. My answer was simple. "When can I start?"

Zilian

Some call me a prophet, a charlatan, a mad magician, a fool, For me, I am simply Zilian and I see countless realities. I don't often get things right because one's fate is ever changing. It never sits still, never having one true path, and there are those times when reality throws a proverbial wrench into the river of time.

Time is a fickle thing and even the tiniest of changes can cause ripples across time. Time is fluid, ever changing and ever flowing. It's no wonder that a single lost soul in Zaun could alter so much. If one stone could change a river, how much more if one would throw a boulder at it?

I watched in rapt attention as a tragedy between two sisters became unmade and in place a future where the possibilities are brighter than what they were heading in my original vision. It was a touching sight, one that my dear friend Ekko might find better even though he would be but a stranger to the blue haired one.

Tragedies averted, Families remaining whole and entire futures changed but is it for the better?

Ahh yes, let's go to Ionia to see the changes.

Oh my, while one war ending factor was removed, another was added. I see a hundred ships fed by food that could last for years. While a hundred tragedies were averted, what would a fed army do in turn. An army marches on its stomach after all and it seems that Zaun would be more than happy to keep Noxian troops fed if it means more coins for their coffers.

A soldier that would have questioned their loyalty to Noxus remains loyal as her troops remain whole and hale. Her fate remains unshaken and her sword unbroken. Without Singed in Noxus employ, such loyalty would need something else to break it

The absence of these very same weapons allowed a swordsman village to have a chance to live. A tragedy averted for now as a Master and his village joins the fight to free their lands. Without such terrible chemical weapons in Zaun's hands, the Noxian commanders are unable to deal a decisive blow to the swordsman's village.

Then there's this tiny little boat in a port in Ionia. It's burning wreck was watched by a group of monks while a girl sat in despair. A boat that was supposed to head to Ionia to deliver precious cargo to Demacia was delayed. By the time they reached Ioania, the Zaunites would find them and delay them for… two years or so it says. Looking that far in the future can get a bit hazy with how easily things can change between those time

So many changes have happened yet. Some would say that the future was unmade and fate was broken but all I see is just another path taken. People often forget that as much as time is an illusion, fate is as well. What happens next would be entirely up to decisions now and while I see a bright present thanks to subtle choices made across a period, who knows if the path they thread would remain bright and full of promise. For every happy ending, there's a hundred tragedies. Let's just hope that the decisions of today would help the future decide what fate they would want to have.

A/N:

First part done. Ark, Vi, and Jinx are now living in the Promenade level of Zaun. From rock bottom to near the top. Quite the journey for these three but its quite the end since there's still so much things that they'll have to face. One of them even makes an appearance here heh.

Well, thats the end of this Act. It was a fun journey. I'd like to thank vyor for helping me on this one. Without him, my work would be a mess with all those missing punctuations :V . Sorry for the late post btw. Wasnt feeling all to well after posting the last chapter. Hopefully, this makes up for it

Interlude 4: The Mentors
Interlude 4: The Mentors

Miss Irine

Irine stretched as she finished the last of her work for today. The budget for the month was finished, things were scheduled and letters to the parents written in advance. The small pile of paper and stack of letters littering her heavy iron desk was illuminated by her trusty desk lamp, the only source of light in her cold dark office. Placing down her pen, she flexed the aching joints of her wrist as she sighed out in relief. A nice relaxing cup of tea should help keep her awake as there were still a lot of things to check.

She leaned back against her swivel chair, loving the soft padding and the comfortable armrest, as she turned to the table beside her. It was filled with trophies and nicknacks from various other places yet the one that always catches her eyes was the broken shell of an orb sitting just beside her teapot.

Making sure her tea was still warm, she poured herself a cup of the wonderful fragrant drink and added in a very generous helping of milk and honey. She breathed in the scent, letting it fill her lungs before taking a sip. With how sweet it was, it was better described as milk with tea rather than tea with milk but that's how she liked things.

Her eyes wandered back to her table, seeing a letter from one of her favorite students. The image of the boy's distinct long locks of hair still filled her with amusement with how silky and shiny it was. It seemed that he was looking for more lessons concerning his magic. It was fun teaching someone so eager about it. The lack of fear and the sheer wonder in their eyes, though their damn consequence free attitude about magic should be fixed. There was no restraint there.

She felt a yawn bubble up from her chest, eyes feeling heavy. Glancing at the clock, she only noticed now that it was already getting quite late. It was difficult to tell what time it was in the undercity with the near eternal night shrouding Zaun.
The shadows of her office danced as the lights of her desk lamp flickered for a bit. She needed to get that one topped up lest she'll be forced to use the lights from her office. The school's budget was already strained enough, best not to waste more money lest she had to contact the main office. Speaking to the main office meant that she needed to speak to Her.

It was then she smelt an ever so familiar scent of fragrant smoke of a pipe spreading across her room. Speaking of the devil, here she comes. Turning back to her desk, she reached down and pulled on the lowermost cabinet to reveal an ornate mirror inside. Retrieving the object, she held it in front of her and looked back at her reflection.

Unlike the other more magical things in her office, the mirror lacked any hint of magic. Neither spark nor glow emanated from the object and not even a hint of mana could be discerned but that didn't stop her when she wanted a chat. Slowly, her reflection was obscured by a fog and nothing but the outline of her face could be seen as the fog rippled and swirled inside.

Before long, her benefactor finally arrived. Like curtains parting, the smoke revealed a familiar face within. Her infuriating, taunting smile greeted her as she looked into the mirror. "Irene! It's been so long, how's Zaun treating you my dear?". Mistress Leblanc was still as flawless as of the day she left the academy. She was the envy of all the students of the Black Rose academy.

Irine was many things. To her students she's the scary principle that all delinquents learned to fear while to her student's parents, she was a hard working immigrant who strived to give their children a future. In truth, she was more than your average educator. While she was all of the above, she was also an agent of the Black Rose.

Being an educator was merely a role she became accustomed to. It was a useful facade, a relaxing one even for there was barely any mask to hide her true self. Maybe it was her true face, yet things could get blurry after growing up in the snake pit that was the Black Rose academy.

"It's been only a week since I had my last report, mistress…" She replied exasperatedly but her mistress acted as if it's been ages since they last talked.

Mistress Leblanc chortled at her reply. "Oh don't be like that dear, you know you can always call me Leblanc."

"Of course mistress." Seeing her mistress pout was always jarring despite how often she does it. It was always unnerving seeing her like this.

"Then again, you were always the responsible one. Being an educator does seem to suit you well..." She added as Irene felt her superiors eyes on her, judging her. The oppressive weight of her stare was soon lifted as her mistress then asked, "Well enough chit chat for now. What's the current situation in Zuan and Piltover?"

"Zaun has been restless ever since the Vereza's made a move against one of the young upstarts Barons. The uncovering of illegal void research only further justified their act."

"Illegal void research you say? That is quite juicy gossip." Irene's brow twitched at that. She was intel gathering, they were not gossip mongering…

"The Piltovan's, of course, are getting a bit nosy about it but they didn't pry into things with how swiftly the incident was resolved. A void monster was unleashed in one of Zaun's districts but it was swiftly taken care of." Irene felt the ghost of a smile on her cheeks at who exactly killed the beast.

"Ohhh, is that a smile I see~? Come on, spill! You know who this hero is don't you~?" Her mistressed asked as she leaned in closer.

"It was one of my students. You might remember him from my report several weeks ago."

"Nooo, you're not suggesting it's that boy are you? The one you mistook for a girl?"

"That would be him, mistress." Irene replied with no small measure of pride.

"It's such a shame that we moved far too late on that one. Still, the situation can be salvaged. From what you've sent last time, you've only taught him the basics. Make sure you teach him some of the Academy's techniques but don't go overboard with it." She replied. It was times like this that Irene questioned why Leblanc wanted reports when she had this uncanny ability to know things before she even tells her.

"Yes mistress." I was already going to teach the boy. This only made it more official.

"Hmm, you said he had sisters right dear?" Irene frowned a bit but she merely nodded as she couldn't lie to her. She wanted to, but it was an exercise of futility. "Be sure to keep an eye on them. I have a feeling that we might have some use of them in the future. Maybe one of them is just as gifted as he is."

With those words, the image on the mirror faded away leaving Irene alone once more. It was only then that she could finally breathe out a sigh of relief. Turning her attention to the boy's letter, she leaned back on her chair as she opened it and read it once more. "You sure do live in interesting times Mr. Ark."

Vander

Vander stared back at the scarred reflection as sweat dribbled down his form. His hands clad in iron as he raised his guard high. Rapid jabs, hooks and crosses shot out to an imaginary enemy. He weaved against the imaginary claws of his opponent, almost feeling the razor sharp claws up against the old scars running from his shoulders and down his biceps with each punch.

He kept going, pushing himself until the ringing bells of the clock ran out. It was only after the timer rang did he finally eased up and let his hands down. The heavy weight of his gloves never get lighter, all he can do was keep himself in shape so he can raise them up when he needed too

"Milo, get some fresh towels will you?" He asked as he pulled a hand free from his glove and grabbed a bottle of water to drink.

"Can't Claggor do it?" Milo asked as he went off to fetch some. Even facing away from the two and amidst the cacophony that was his gym and the bar connected to it, he could still hear the two bickering. Why it's not that hard to imagine them already making faces at each other. They'll grow out of it… eventually.

Vanders ears perked up as he heard the bell attached to the door rings. Turning to the door, he greeted the couple that entered his gym. There entered a blonde kid with wings? And a redheaded girl with tattoos of roses in her neck. What a curious pair he thought to himself.

"Welcome to the Till the Last Round gym, what can I do for you?" The momentary flinch by the two made Vander blink.

The momentary look of fear was all too hard to miss. They were looking at the terrible scars on his face and body but at his face. He snorted at that as he then asked them. "I guess you met my brother?"

"You can say that." The redhead replied as she absent mindedly reached for her stomach. Vander nodded, as he gestured for them to follow him to the desk at the back of the gym. The two followed suit.

"Did you kick his teeth in when you last met him?" Vander asked jokingly as he placed down his heavy iron gloves on the old scratch up wooden desk before sitting down. He reached for his pipe as well as the forms for them to fill up for a proper membership. "Now where are those forms…" he muttered as he rummaged through the drawers.
"He's... dead" The blonde replied as he and the girl sat down in front of him. That got Vander to pause for a bit just as he was about to grab the proper forms. He looked back at them, his eyes gazing at the two before he focused on the blonde one before he looked away. The hardness in eyes told him all he needed to know. Vander took in a deep breath as he leaned back on the chair and grabbed a match for his pipe instead.

Lighting his pipe, he took a light puff before letting it out. "It… was bound to happen. Don't blame you on that one. He can be a right prick…" He sighed out as heavy weight seemed to set on his shoulder. His hands tracing at the scars in his forearm

The girl snorted at that as she said "You can say that. For someone related to him, you don't sound that upset." All Vander had to do was point at the scars running across his face, the ones that almost took out his eye. "Point." she conceded.

There was silence between them for a while as Vander took his time to process it all in. The frown on his face soon gave way to a sad smile as he then asked. "Well, let bygones be bygones. I assume you two want a membership?"

"Well, it's more my girlfriend here but I wouldn't mind one as well." The boy replied as he reached out for the redhead's hands.

'Kids these days' Vander resisted rolling his eyes at the too lovey dovey couple as he reached out for the forms and gave them. "Now, that'll be a fee of…" he made his usual spiel about the price as well as the perks, "Membership would entail you access to the heated showers as well as a 10% discount on my other shop, the Till the Last Drop bar just beside here."

The two looked at each other before nodding. "Heated showers?" The girl asked as the two started filling out the forms. The golden glint of a ring on her hand was not too hard to miss. He had to reiterate things. 'Kids these days indeed.'

"That makes the membership worth it." Vander smirked at that. Nobody could resist the heated showers. While he was waiting for them to finish things, his attention was called by Milo who finally got the towels he asked for earlier

"Umm, Vander… there's an old lady asking for you. She has scary guards." he said. Vander looked at the door behind the boy and found himself looking at an old familiar face.

"Excuse me for a second, an old friend of mine just visited. This shouldn't take long." Vander excuse himself as he wiped away the sweat from his brow. Exiting the gym and entering his bar, he was immediately greeted by the raucous atmosphere. Making his way past the new bartender he hired, Thieram, a good Zaunite lad if a bit skittish, who was busily making a drink for the old chem baroness, he greeted her as old friends do.

"Corina! Still as lovely as the day I left your district!" The woman smiled as her entourage stared at him for his gall.

"Vander, still as cheeky as ever I see." Thieram poured her a drink as he sat down beside her. The elderly baroness then gestured for her entourage to go outside. One of them looked like she was about to protest but a stern look from the older woman had her remaining quiet as she and the rest of the guards went outside.

"That one needs more training." Vander pointed out with a puff from his pipe.

"She'll get used to it. She's one of my newer enforcers." Corina replied as she swirled her drink.

"You're burning through them quite fast eh?"

"It's not my fault they're not made of sterner stuff. Lost her predecessor to that fight a few weeks ago." She took a sip from the drink before nodding. "Not bad, here go get yourself something nice dear." She took out a gold coin before tossing it over to Thieram. The boy was all too happy to accept the very generous tip as he pocketed it.

"Ahh yes. It caused quite the ruckus last time I heard about it. The lanes kept talking about it for almost a week. People do love a good story, especially of monsters and heroes. All I could hear was Owl this, lightning that." Vander complained, throwing up his arms in exasperation.

"Saw two of your little flowers in my gym just now. Thought you only accepted girls but then again, that boy could pass off as one." He joked, making her laugh out loud.

"Don't let him hear that, he gets all pouty about it and no, he's not one of my flowers and neither is the pink one. Far too crude that one is, but just the kind of crude that you could polish into a gem." She replied with a chuckle before she looked back at him.

He grinned as he took a puff from his pipe. "I'll see what I can do. It's not every day you send a wayward charge to my gym." His playful smile soon gave way to a more easy going and relaxed one as he leaned back.

"Chit chat aside, what brings you to the lanes. You know how people here like to remain neutral." He replied as he gestured at some of the patrons who were scowling at her. Some looked away but others remained angry.

"The Barons are holding court about the recent incident. The lanes need a representative." Corina downed the last bit of her drink before getting off her chair. As if on cue, her entourage came back.

"We'll send someone there," Vander replied with a shrug.

"We both know who'll they send. They look up to you after all. After all, people do love the hero."

Vander frowned as he looked away. "I was never the hero, just a poor bloke who had to do what he had to do."

"I'm sorry for your loss by the way." Corina snapped her fingers and her enforcer pulled out a box from her pack. She laid it down on the table. The arm length box laid there innocently, hiding a weapon he thought would never be parted from its owner. He took the heavy box, feeling the weight of it in his arms. With it in his hands, he stood up and the two parted ways.

Returning back to his gym, he was soon greeted by the sight of the pink one knocking a tooth out of Milo's jaw in the ring. "You really need to stop flirting with every girl you see, Milo." Clagor said with a grin on his face. "Who knows, they might be a boy!" He added with a laugh causing the blonde on the ring side to groan.

Vander sighed, rough indeed.

Viktor

As a Zaunite, Viktor learned from a young age that life is often full of disappointments. Things as they say can happen and not everything goes accordingly. One such instance of it was the letter in his hand. It was the last letter he received from his correspondence with a professor from above. They were promises of a post in the prestigious post in the University of Piltover, the home of progress itself, but they were merely promises.

It'd been months since they last wrote back. He wasn't sure if they'll ever write back at this point. Still, it was merely a setback. One must learn to push themselves back up after every fall and it's not like he was out of options. Even if they called back, he wasn't going to even bother. The papers of his students towered above him and they need grading after all.

Opening the fire box of his office's heater, he tossed in the letter and watched it slowly burn to naught but dust and ash. Fitting with how his hopes turned to ashes in his mouth. Still, it was a reminder to him that not all promises would remain true.

"Skye, is there anything else on my schedule today?" He called out to his secretary/close confidant. She was the one that kept his schedule running perfectly while he devoted his time to tinkering and improving the various experimental designs he had on the lab.

"You have a meeting with your new apprenta and Viktor, please don't scare them off this time." Viktor rolled his eyes at the reminder.

"It's not my fault they couldn't handle a little blood." He replied a bit weakly. It wasn't that much blood in Viktors opinion

"Viktor, it was one of your experimental eyes. You were cutting a man's head open while the man was still awake."

"John was perfectly ok about it. He was even telling jokes to the class while we operated on him." Viktor chuckled at the memory, remembering the jokes the factory worker told. "But I'll make sure to handle them a bit more carefully this time . The Fredersen and the Vereza's recommended the boy after all." He added with a bit of distaste.

When his sponsor and a friend of theirs were pulling the strings, he couldn't say no. He was treading on thin ice all of the sudden which was making him leery about this potential Apprenta. Zaun's academy wasn't so isolated from politics as they claim to be.

Now, it's merely a matter of knowing what this apprenta would be like. "Do you think this Apprenta would be a pampered brat?" Viktor asked as he looked at the barebones files he had of the boy. He started reading it once more.

Ark of Clan Vereza, one of the Flower Baroness's wards. No records of formal schooling yet scored a decent score in the entrance exams. Viktor frowned at that. Something wasn't adding up. Was this boy homeschooled? He had asked around and he couldn't find any rumors of bribery. It honestly rankled him. It was like one of those problems that one just couldn't solve

Before his thoughts wandered off too far, he was soon notified that the source of his headache this morning finally came. "Viktor, he's here." Skye's voice called out as he heard the door close behind someone.

Placing the letter down, he sat up and went to greet this boy. What he found honestly made him all the more confused. The image of a pampered brat was torn down by a kid that looked more at home in the sumps than anywhere else. He also briefly questioned if the gender written on the boys files was wrong and what he got was in fact a girl.

The boy… wore ill-fitting clothes held together to his body by belts and buckles. His shirt and skirt? Were laundered and iron but there were still obvious signs of oil stains along with various signs of repairs. His boots were also a bit too big, probably something you can buy off a bargain bin. Then there were the boy's wings. He knew Zuanite fashion could be wild but wings?

Viktor's eyes were soon drawn on the boy's cheap prosthesis. They were barely functional ones though the lower part of his legs were of a weird design. They were not pillar like but curved. It was like he took a piece of metal and fashioned it in the shape of a bow and used it as a leg instead. It looked counter intuitive but there was a method to this madness as the prosthesis flexed and stretched as he shifted his weight from foot to foot.

"You can run with those, can't you?" Viktor said as he gestured at the boy's foot.

The boy blinked as he replied, "Most people often asked me about my wings but yes Professor." He then proceeded to demonstrate the freedom of mobility he had with it. Sure the thighs were a bit stiff considering his prosthesis was for his entire left leg but it was far superior than the plodding and heavy footed stomps of most prosthesis. Skye clapped at the display and soon enough, Viktor finds himself clapping as well.

"I must say that is quite ingenious." Viktor said, appreciating the work on the device.

"It's not really anything special. Just simple biomimicry, that's all." The boy said with a shrug.

Viktor had to admit, maybe he was wrong about the boy. Maybe there was potential in this one. "Ark, was it? Would you like it if I built you a replacement arm?" he asked. The boy's legs seemed to have gotten much of the boy's attention. It would be a shame if he had to be slowed down but something as simple as shoddily built arms.

"Yes but can I have one request for it, Professor?" The boy asked.

"I don't see why not?" Viktor cautioned. Customization wouldn't be a problem and might even better serve the user.

"Can you attach a retractable knife to it Professor?" As he asked that question, Viktor couldn't help but laugh. It was honestly refreshing hearing such a childish request. People here forget that a child's mind can be quite a potent force.

"Yes Mr. Ark, we'll give you a retractable blade. Before that, however, let me introduce myself." Viktor said before extending his left hand. "My name is Viktor, Head of the Robotics division of the College. You can call me by my name inside my office but you must call me Sir or Professor outside."

"Yes Si-Viktor." He replied as he shook Viktors hand with a firm shake.

A/N:

Annddd done. It took me a while before I got this done but I really needed this written. Things were a bit hectic on my end… things kept me occupied. Personal things as well as Arcane which was god damn good. Sorry for the late post but here we are.

Well, since Arcanes lore is different from the old one I'm operating on, so yeah… I'm not sure if this counts as AU or if Arcane is the AU. I'll be mixing and matching lore from both ends cause I do love the characters from Arcane.

So non crippled Viktor is a thing now. Also, Warwick is Vander's biological brother here. On other things, I think I had hinted that Irene worked for the Black Rose and here we are. Heh. From what I've been planning… I think there's one or two more Interludes after this before I go on to Act 2. Hopefully, I wouldn't go off on extended hiatus like this again… hahah…yeah. One last thing, I'd like to thank my Patrons for their support as well as Vyor. Without Vyor, the chapters would be a mess with all the missing punctuations.

Shameless Patron link here. A new mouse would be nice :V

Snowdown Special
Snowdown Special

It was once again winter time in Zaun. Fresh snow fell from above, piercing even the ever constant veil of the Grey that hung over Zuan. With the snow, came the cold and frost that saught to snuff out every last bit of warmth there was in the city. Still, not even the miserable weather could bring the spirit of Zaun down any further.

The cold only brought communities closer as they huddled among shared fireplaces, sharing tales and eating meals. Everyone gathered together in their own little groups, not wanting to spend the winter alone and miserable. Only the most miserly of chembarons would want to spend their time alone, not that the people were complaining as celebrations were often much more joyous without them. In one such gathering, there upon the heart of Zaun itself, was where the most unlikely legend began.

The people inside the bar of Till the Last Drop were having a merry time. The adults were sharing drinks among themselves while their children gathered around a boy who told such fantastical stories that he had his audience listening in rapt attention. No one could leave their children at home at this time of year and the bar had a massive fireplace to keep them all warm. The fact that one of the bar patrons was a decent story teller was only a bonus.

"And thus concludes the Tale of the Two Brothers. No matter how Volibear tried to ruin Snowdown, Ornn will always be there to foil his brother's dastardly tricks." Said Ark as he turned the page of a massive pop up book. His audience giggled at the amusing scene that popped up from the books pages. There on the next page was the comical image of Volibear swearing atop a mountain of stolen presents while Ornn was carried atop Anivia with an equally comically large bag of gifts upon her talon. They were guided across the night sky by none other than Janna herself who called upon the north wind to help Anivia with her impossible task.

The children cheered while Jinx scoffed at the tale. "Again! Again!" Shouted the kids as they clamored for an encore of the tale and Ark could only grin as it seemed even Jinx wanted to hear it again as she glanced at him. Vi could only shake her head in amusement while she sat down beside him sipping some eggnog.

"Now now, that was the third retelling and my voice is getting a bit sore so it'll have to be next time. It's already getting late so we'll have to go for now but I promise you, we'll be back." Ark replied as he closed his book of stories. Various awws and groans filled the bar but the kids were soon fetched by their parents who thanked the trio for keeping their children entertained even for a little while. The small pile of bronze and even some silver was also a much appreciated tip.

As the trio headed home, passing by other groups who huddled close together, Ark asked "So how did you like my Snowdown Special?"

"It was ok I guess. It's a good story for children" Jinx replied as she looked away.

"Oh come on, don't tell you didn't want to join those kids when they asked for a second and third time." Vi teasingly said as she poked a sputtering Jinx.

"I did not!" replied an indignant Jinx as she denied it vehemently. All she received for her effort was having her hair ruffled by Vi and Ark chuckling at her expense. Jinx pouted as she finally caved it. "Fine, fine, I kinda liked it. Volibear was silly and I liked how Ornn saved Snowdown" she said with a faint smile on her lips.

"Hey, maybe Ornn will send you a gift this Solstice." Ark then said, making Jinx snort in amusement.

"And Vi gets a sock of coal." Jinx teased back to her sister whose turn it was to be indignant.

"How am I the Volibear here all of a sudden!?" Vi shouted to which Jinx replied with a raspberry

"Cause you're a big meanie to me right now." Jinx said just as she ducked under a grab by her older sister. She sprinted off ahead as she shouted "Catch me if you can!" and off the two chased their wayward sibling as they raced back home. They did manage to catch up to her just before they got home thanks to a snowball.

Jinx skidded to a halt as she felt the snowball hit her in the back of her head. She turned back to see a panting Vi and Ark floating with wings outstretched beside her, each with a snowball in hand.

"Oh it's on!" Jinx shouted as she ducked under the next volley and scooped up her own snowball. The return fire was as accurate as it was deadly as it flew straight at Vi's face. The redhead wiped her face clean as Jinx laughed at the look she had in her face. Even Ark joined in but this only made Vi throw a snowball at his face.

"Traitor!" Ark howled out in glee as he fired back making the snow ball fight a three way one.

"You started it!" Vi shouted as she hid behind cover and started gathering a large amount of snow.

"It was only a chuckle!" Ark shouted back as she dodged the manic firing of Jinx. The bluenette proved to be an endless well of boundless energy as she threw small yet numerous snow balls.

"You were laughing! Now it's my turn!" Vi shouted as she stood up from behind her cover as she carried a massive snowball above her head. Vi laughed out loudly as she threw it half heartedly making sure not to be that accurate with her aim, yet it still sent Ark and Jinx scrambling. The ball of snow sailed across the air and exploded when it hit Jinx's cover.

The snowball fight just outside their home would go on for hours leaving Jinx spent by the time they finished. The howling winds didn't bode well, so they headed inside where it was warm and cozy. Jinx fell asleep almost as soon as they settled in.

Vi and Ark tucked in Jinx for the night while they stayed up for a bit longer. There in the kitchen, they sat together with Ark on Vi's lap. Ark remained diminutive even as both sisters grew which made him the smaller spoon when it came to cuddling, not that he minded.

"I think we should decorate our home for the Winter Solstice." Ark suddenly said as he sipped a cup of warm milk

"Like in your story earlier?" Vi asked as she wrapped her arms around him.

"Yeah. It'll be fun." Ark replied as he snuggled in closer and enjoyed her warmth. It was cold, far too cold for his taste. He wished he wore more socks right now.

"Hah, you're always looking for an excuse for a celebration." Vi poked at Ark's cheeks to which Ark simply smiled back.

"Like I said.~ Plus, I'm sure Jinx would love to decorate the Solstice Tree. 'And thus the children of the world erected a tall tree with a shining star of gold on top to guide Ornn on where he should drop his gifts for the world'. " Ark said, quoting a line from his work

"She'll stay up all night guarding that tree from Volibear." Vi then said, making Ark laugh at the image it brought up in his mind.

"Yeah but it'll be worth it to see her face if she suddenly wakes up to a gift on her bed." Ark started before his mind wandered off as he looked outside. It was snowing pretty hard and he remembered the times he was alone and trying to keep himself warm underground. Making some extra gifts to drop around wouldn't hurt.

And so, Ark got to work. It was still a week or so before the Solstice. He spent his time making and buying gifts for Vi and Jinx. For Vi, he bought several sets of clothes, some of which was for both of them to enjoy in private, along with a pair of sturdy and stylish(in his opinion) new steel toed boots.

As for Jinx, he also bought some sets of clothes, a box of tools for her tinkering; which he made all on his own to make sure they were as good as they could get with current machining technology; and a knife. A knife was always a good thing to have.

On the extra gifts he was making, he kept making toys as well as warm articles of clothing. The toys were nothing special but they were sturdy and much better to look at than any scrap toys out there. As for the articles of clothes, he kept it with scarves and gloves. He wished that he knew how to make nylon and polyester but that was a long way off. This was all he could think of for now and cheap enough he could make them en masse.

Sometimes, he would find himself falling asleep in front of his desk or the mechanized sewing machine he had just bought. 'Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to keep working on these gifts with all the responsibilities I have,' he thought to himself.

"Hey Ark, I know you're trying to make gifts but don't wear yourself out ok?" Admonished Vi as she gave him a cup of hot milk to keep him warm while he worked on.

"I'll be fine, just need to do some last minute gifts." Ark yawned as he pulled the blanket over himself a bit closer.

And so the days passed and the toys and clothing piled up until his and Vi's room was brimming with them. Every nook and cranny was jam packed with simple toys. From rubik's cubes to dolls and from chess boards to simple snakes and ladders, such a variety of toys now lined his workshop.

The actual day of the solstice was a joyous affair. It was only the three of them but it was a big enough crowd to celebrate in Arks opinion. With their room bedecked in Christmas decorations along with a tree made from painted bottle brushes. Food aplenty was placed upon the table while gifts were placed beneath the tree.

Much to Ark's surprise, there were a duo of roughly wrapped gifts, one for him and another for Vi. With the glitters and liberal use of pink paint, he knew exactly who made those. It was long and cylindrical and Ark had no idea what was inside with how much wrapping was used.

"Who could that be from? That wasn't there just a minute ago." Jinx said as she whistled innocently. Ark couldn't help but pull the younger girl into a hug.

"Less touchy feely!" Jinx shouted but her actions betrayed her thoughts as she pulled herself into the hug.

"Group hug!" Vi's bone crushing hug only made it more cozy despite the bruising.

The trio spent the rest of the night talking and just spending time with each other. Ark pulled out the pile of cookies and warm glass of eggnog for Ornn as midnight approached. Vi meanwhile tended to the fire in the oven as she readied it for a certain ritual Ark thought would be appropriate as he wrote those in the story he had for Snowdown.

"You sure you don't want to read this?" asked a bleary eyed Jinx as she looked at the letter in her hand.

"Yup. Off it goes to Ornn but maybe I could have a little peek? I wonder what embarrassing things you wrote in that letter?" Ark replied with a grin to which Jinx replied by tossing the letter to the fire in haste.

"Too late." She yawned as he tossed the letter inside the oven. Vi and Ark's letter followed soon and thus their request to Ornn was sent on its merry way.

"So Jinx, you sure you want to stay up for the night?" Ark asked as he sat down on the comfortable chair. The cushioned seat and backrest was making his eyes a bit heavy but he could last a bit longer. He still had some deliveries to make after all

"Yeah… just need to have a few minutes of shut eye… can you wake me up mmmkay?" Jinx asked as she yawned. She curled up beneath the large Snowdown tree and dozed off. The two waited for a few minutes before she started snoring away, having gone to the land of sleep and oblivious to the world around her.

"I'll carry her to bed. Going for a trip tonight right?" Vi asked as she lifted her younger sister up.

"Yeah. Going to rest for a bit. It's been a long day." Ark replied as he yawned.

Vi rolled her eyes as she teased "Don't go sleeping on me ok?"

Vi came back to Ark dozing off on his own, drooling a bit as he failed to remain awake. Vi smiled as she shook her head. This was exactly what she warned about. Still, she could always wake him up. It was so warm and comfortable beside him. Sharing a blanket with him, she kissed him on the forehead before snuggling up beside him. She soon dozed off as well.

It was only at the crack of the new dawn did Ark bolt awake. Vi was jolted awake as Ark realized how he missed his delivery. Ark groaned at the ruined surprise he could have done.

"We could always do it today. Besides, I think the kids down at the Sumps would like it better to see the gifts coming from you." Vi said, trying to cheer him up, as she led the way to their room

"Yeah, it's just I've been planning this for so long and it gets ruined." Ark replied with a defeated tone before he opened the door to their room. For a brief second, Arks' heart froze as he saw naught but a room devoid of presents. For a hot second, he thought they were robbed but it was only the presents that were gone.

The two searched the house, trying to find where the presents went. Even Jinx joined in as she woke up

"Umm… Urk, honey, I think you should see this." called out Vi from their room.

Ark found her holding a metal plate with glowing letters. It was quite the peculiar message if he was to be honest. There written on the tablet was these words:

GOT YOUR LETTERS. DROPPED BY TO GIVE YOU PRESENTS. REQUEST VAGUE, MADE YOUR PRESENTS BETTER iNSTEAD.YOU STILL HAD PRESENTS TO DELIVER BUT YOU'RE ASLEEP. DELIVERED THEM FOR YOU. BE GOOD BOYS AND GIRLS

-ORNN

"Ok… I know you like pulling off elaborate stunts but I didn't know you'd do this. Nice touch on the letter though. Feels warm like it came fresh from a forge." Jinx replied as she inspected the letter and marveled at the craftsman ship.

"I didn't do this… Vi and I were planning something else." Ark said to which Vi nodded in agreement

"This… 'Ornn' said he left presents" Vi said. Ark had a feeling that he knew what gifts were tampered. He and his family went off to go to the tree to find three wooden boxes. He found his presents looking like someone pulled out items from inside them without unwrapping them. Jinx looked pissed as her present for him was unwrapped.

Still, they had Vi pull out her crowbar to open the boxes and out came three items. A boot, a pair of daggers and a blue sword. The boots were for Vi, the daggers were for Jinx and the sword was for Ark.

"A Mercury Tread?" Ark said as he recognized the boots he had made. They were still the materials he used but this Ornn remade it into a game item he still recognized after all these years. He was starting to believe that he might have just contacted another supernatural being.

"I like them. Feels like I could kick a wall and it'll be the wall that's going to be dented instead of the boots" Vi said as she tried them on and tested them.

"Wait, if that's what that is called then what are these? Woah, they're very light." Jinx said as she lifted up a pair of yellow daggers. Despite their size, Jinx wielded them like they weighed as much as a feather.

"Those are called Zeals…" Ark said in disbelief at the second item but it was the third item that caught his attention the most. He grabbed the blade and lifted it up. The blue blade was almost unmistakable but It wasn't quite like the Sheen he knew, it looked more like…

"Sting!" Jinx gasped.

"Wait, you made that sword for me?" Ark asked, amused at what blade she tried to copy.

"What? It was a Solstice present and and I want to make it pretty." Jinx replied

Their day would get a whole lot weirder as cries of surprise and joy filled the halls outside of their apartment and even the streets outside. People were celebrating as they found themselves with gifts. Children run around with their new toys while the adults wore new gloves and scarves. Ark couldn't help but laugh. It was a miracle.

"Did Ornn did this?" Vi asked a bit dumbfounded at what happened

"I think he did… I think he did…" Ark said as he closed the window and decided today was too weird of a day to go out

While Zaun celebrated, a certain being sat beneath the mountains as he feasted on a huge plate of cookies and a mug of eggnog. He snorted in amusement as he watched his brother having to deal with being buried by an avalanche of coal.

A/N:

If you can, please take your time to visit the kink below and take you time to read it. Got a friend in need and this is the best that I can do for now:
https://gogetfunding.com/pandemic-and-flood-lifeline/

On the chapter above... Suprise? Its a late Christmas special. A very late one... Haha, yeah sorry about that. This was supposed to be written before Christmas but was having a hard time starting this one. It kinda got put on hold for later again and again until I decided to just sit down and finish it. Well, it came out in one go.

This was a fun thing to write. Threat this as either canon or non canon on your discretion. Tis a silly chapter but a warm and fuzzy one. Kinda my take on how Snowdown in Runeterra gets more gift giving with Ornn as the Gift Maker spreading joy to the people of the world. Also, Volibear the grinch cause he's an asshole lol. Hope you had a merry christmas and a happy new year.

Shoutout to my newest Patron Roman Torchwick. Thank you. Also, I'd like to thank Vyor once more for Beta'ing this chapter. Without him, thjs would be a train wreck of a chapter

Interlude 5
Interlude 5: The Court Beneath the Earth

Deep within the blackened heart of Zaun, The Chembarons have gathered in force. All the movers of the City of Iron and Glass along with their entourage have now gathered to call in session a court to decide matters that would shake the very foundation of the city. It would not only decide the fate of the single district which was now up for grabs but the very future of the undercity as well as they decide what to do with what they've found in the labs of the district that they were debating about.

"Order! Order in the court!" Shouted a mountain of a man as he slammed the gavel down on the podium in front of him. His jowls along with all the rolls of fat in his mighty frame jiggled underneath his fashionable coat as he tried to bring order to the gaggle of barons but to no avail as the crowded brayed and bellowed at each other, threatening violence and speaking insults about one's mother to each other.

"It's been fifteen years since we've last held court and to think we haven't learned anything from the last session on the matters of order and civility." Whispered Corazon to her granddaughter as they looked down upon their fellow barons from their seat near the podium. Singed stood behind her along with Vi and Jinx.

"You expect too much from these pigs in human clothing." answered the modulated voice of the woman beside her. Dressed in an exquisitely designed white suit and accented with a black vest and a purple shirt , Reneta Glasc was quite the striking figure. Her prosthetic arm and graying hair didn't mar her mature beauty with her well groomed and slick black hair and her confident and relaxed posture in her seat. Surrounded by her own guards, she sat among her peers while she looked down upon the less affluent and more eccentrically dressed barons beneath them.

While they were all barons here inside this hallowed hall, it was clear that not everyone was equal. The wealthier barons with their large entourage positioned themselves in the upper seats while the less affluent barons had to contend with what's left. People jockeyed for their position and one fight just so happened to be starting just across the opposite end of the circle of seats.

"You're sitting on my seat!" Shouted a man who wore an expensive yet ill fitting suit for his willowy frame as he jockeyed for one of the higher seats. He towered over the delicate looking woman as he tried to intimidate her. Unfortunately for him, he just so happened to pick a fight with a certain baroness with a fiery temper.

He was quickly silenced as the man was knocked off his feet by a terrifyingly fast left hook. The woman's manic smile was more than enough for the unfortunate man's guard to do nothing but drag their boss away before things got messier

"God damn it Voss! Stop punching people in the face!" shouted the fat man on the podium.

Corazon snorted in amusement as she and Renata watched the whole debacle from their seats. "I wouldn't want to be in Eramis' position right now having to bring some semblance order to this lot." she replied motioned for a drink. Vi, while looking uncomfortable wearing a suit, was there to attend to Corazon's requests with Jinx following nearby. The two were visibly uncomfortable with all the barons nearby, but they kept things to themselves as they tried to remain calm and dignified.

"Your new flowers?" Renata asked as she looked upon them ascessingly, her eyes roving over them and judging them like one would access a particularly expensive breed of dog.

Vi's jaw tensed at this but she kept shut as Corazon answered "Oh no, nothing of that sort. They're just the sisters of my newest inventor. He's been quite the promising young man. Passed the College's stringent exam recently and little Jinx over here's quite eager to follow in her big brother's footsteps. Come on girls, introduce yourselves"

Jinx blushed under the attention as she held onto the hem of her cute dress before curtseying to Renata. Vi merely gave Renata a quick bow as she eyed the woman with barely veiled indignation.

"Adorable. If you ever want a scholarship, just know that Glasc Industries is open to support young talents'' Renata blatantly offered to which Corazon rolled her eyes

"Bah! You and your thieving ways. Go get your own talents." Corazon huffed light heartedly.

"Whatever you say old lady." Renata replied smugly at the much older woman.

"Says the spinster." Corazon cheekily replied much to Renata's annoyance.

Before the two baronesses could banter any further, the round hall was momentarily silenced as the back door was opened for some of the late comers.

"Does my eye deceive me or is Silco late?" Taunted a random baron as Silco walked to one of the seats in the upper deck, the one further away from the podium and right beside the man who represented the lanes.

"No, I'd say I'm fashionably late. It seems that the session was just about to start, isn't that right Eramis?" Silco replied as he leaned back against this seat. The fat baron spluttered a bit before he gathered his composure to finally start the session.

Clearing his throat, Eramis started "Quite so. Anywho, as you've all heard by now, one of our ranks broke from the peace we've established since the Times of Trouble and openly declared war upon another."

The barons shouted in anger, voicing their displeasure with the actions of one of them, but Eramis powered through as he spoke louder. "The accord we've made amongst ourselves to rid us of Piltovers influence and show a united front to the world was broken and not just that but to have the target be to the grand old lady of Zaun is a testament to their greed and short sightedness."

"You're too kind my dear." Corina replied as she thanked her fellow baron much to the cheers of her supporters and some of her fellow barons

"Now, we've gathered here so we could talk like civil men and women about the fate of this now leaderless land. I for one would like to motion for the creation of another seat for a new family as this baron's family ended with him and good riddance I say!" The Baron added before the gathered mass once more exploded into arguments with various sides approving and opposing the motion while others argued on who should the district be given to.

"This will take a while. Wine?" Corina said as she offered her neighbor a glass.

"Hmm, I'd rather have some Brandy." Renata replied as she pulled out a flask from her vest and took a swig. Swirling it, she glanced towards the elderly baroness before asking "Where is your little inventor? His sisters are here after all, I'd assume he's around."

"Oh he's around. Keeping him as a surprise for the party later." The elderly Vereza enigmatically replied, smiling as she watched the proceeding unfold.

And so what was a long and arduous argument soon began. While most barons voiced their opinion, some noticeably kept quiet. Silco among them even as Vander voiced his opinion, that the streets be given to the Vereza's which was something that could only empower his competition. In the end however, a decision was made. "And so it's decided that these districts shall be divided among the Vereza's and their neighbor." Eramis declared, though not too enthusiastically as his motion was defeated.

Corazon smiled as the baron all voiced their agreement though in various levels of enthusiasm. While the matters of land were settled, there were still some things left to be discussed.

"Now that matter's settled, we could now move on to another point in our agenda for today." Eramis paused momentarily as he read some notes before asking "What do we do with the contents of the lab? Based on the reports kindly provided to us by the Vereza's alone, truly heinous things were happening inside there. Whatever research was going on inside seemed to have created the monster that was unleashed upon our streets. While they are Corazon's property now, there are rumors that there was research into the void resulting in such monstrosity. It wouldn't be unreasonable for us to ask for something to be done with what clearly is a threat to our community?"

There were murmurs across the crowd as they digested this new information. It wasn't everyday that something so intriguing was brought up. Such tantalizing yet forbidden knowledge being researched right in this very city was something that caught everyone's attention, more so than the land that they had just decided upon earlier.

"I say we burn it. That thing reeks of the void and nothing good ever comes out of those pits. Just look at Icathia and tell me that it'll bring nothing but harm to us all. Listen to me when I say that that research is worse than what my prisoners could come up with." Declared Voss to which her neighbors seemed to agree.

"I do have to agree with Voss over this. Research on the void is restricted for a reason. Not even our unreasonable neighbors above dare disagree with this." Eramis admitted as he leaned forward.

"Yeah! Burn it!" agreed one from the crowd.

"Destroy it." piped up another.

"Only a fool would use such research." Added Voss as she worked the crowd into a frenzy. There was a general sentiment of their dislike for the void but there were some who kept quiet as the other barons worked themselves up.

"And only a bigger fool would destroy such research." spoke up a voice amongst the crowd, catching everyone's attention. Heads turned as Silco spoke up for the first time since he entered the room. Even Vander looked shocked at what Silco just said. There were varying looks of shock and incredulity in their looks and then there was Voss who fumed at the insult.

"Say that again I-!" Voss growled out before she was cut off by the man.

"A fool. A head strong fool that's giving up the chance of a lifetime. Do you even know what you're planning to burn, girl?" Silco asked without a care for her.

"Now things have just gotten a lot more interesting." Renata said as she leaned forward. Even her rebreather couldn't hide her amusement.

"You don't say?" Corazon replied as she watched Voss turn red in anger.

"Now listen here, fishmonger, do you have any idea what you're talking about!? This is the void we're talking about, for crying out loud!" Voss tried to reason, gritting her teeth as she tried to be reasonable.

"Hearsay at the very least." Silco replied dismissively, waving off her concerns and her insults. "Even if it's the case, what about it? We've already pushed science and magic to its very limit since the earliest inception of our city so why stop now? Why waste such an opportunity where everyone can benefit. Just think of these monsters, they were mere prototypes but look at what they could do." and what we could have was left unsaid but it was clear to everyone else. Even Voss was getting a bit hesitant as she thought about it.

"While I often disagree with Silco over some matters, I think I might have to agree with him on this one." Renata replied as her gaze was locked on to Silco, eyes narrowed as if trying to figure out a puzzle.

Silco smiled as he continued on. "Still, it's not up to us to decide. I'm sure we could all use some professional knowledge. Someone we could say might know more about the situation than we know so far. Why, I think the new owners of the lab might know more about it. After all, isn't that Singed beside her? Why, the opinion of the most renowned researcher in Zaun should hold some weight and isn't it her property now? She should have the last say."

The attention that was once on Silco now turned to Corazon. She frowned a bit but didn't let anything else show as she leaned back against her seat. She let the crowd stew in their anticipation before she looked up to the ceiling. The crowd looked up and there sitting above the rafters with his legs was a winged figure with a mask akin to that of an owl.

There was a sign of recognition among many as some of the twitchier guards pulled out their guns as the boy waved at them rather cheekily.

"Ark dear, would you be kind enough to explain our stance on this matter?" Corazon asked as Ark nodded before he slipped off his seat from above and slowly glided down the center of the room. With wings spread wide, he floated above them, demanding attention as the harsh light from above bathed his white cloaked form. With the eyes of everyone in the crowd on him, he started to speak.

"In the ancient deserts of Shurima, there exists a tale of a fantastical creature known among the locals as a genie. Spirits of untold power yet trapped in innocuous little objects such as bottles or lamps. Legends goes that whoever frees these creatures gets to have whatever they wish to come, but elders often warn that the genies are not often as magnanimous and generous as they appear. They can twist your very words and intentions against you if you wish and once they're out, there's nothing you can do to put them back in. Be it a good spirit or a bad one, whoever frees them must realize that they have just released something they cannot control.

This is exactly what we've found inside that god forsaken lab. The progress they've made in the field of science and techmaturgy is undoubtedly great and just as equally horrifying to behold. I've been inside that lab more than once. Once as an avenger looking to seek justice and another time as a researcher picking up what's left of the place.

The cages and blood inside still haunts me from time to time. Their methods were undoubtedly cruel, yet they had results. Their actions were those of monsters but they've produced a wonder that even my teacher, the esteemed Doctor Singed, would find to have untapped potential and all of it written down and noted for us to study.

We've seen the results, fought it up close and it was a terrible thing to behold. Whatever they fielded was merely a prototype, a mere fluke after hundreds of failed experiments but we all saw the results.

Ladies and gentlemen, while we abhor the monstrosity of these experiments, we cannot burn what they've made and forget about it because sooner or later, we might just have another. Human curiosity will not allow us to rest until we know what it can do. Best to see the research in the light of day rather than be hidden in the deep darkness where researchers grope out in the shadows and unwittingly have something grab back and take them down a road of madness.

We ask those who's going to pursue this knowledge to be not as cruel as the ones before us and let this shimmering light in the dark be a beacon of power for us all."

Ark bowed once before flying up Corazon's side. There was silence for a while as the barons digested this information before it was cut short as Silco clapped.

"Well put." Silco replied as this seemed to snap people out of their little spell bind with Eramis blinking and clearing her throat.

"That's one way to put it. It seems that we'll be seeing the fruits of this research, as tainted with tragedy as they be, in the future. Now, with that out of the way, let's move on to other issues. It will be a while since we have a gathering of this scale so I'd like to bring up..."

Things went on till it was already late at night. The barons and baroness who attended finally grew tired of the meeting and called it a day so that they could finally party. While the rest socialized, Corazon sat beside Silco. Their bodyguards were off to the side leaving them in relative peace and privacy.

"What game are you playing at, boy?" Corazon growled, clearly pissed at what Silco did earlier.

"Oh, I just thought it be a waste if I let Voss and her little toadies have their fun." Silco replied as he took a sip from his glass of wine, savoring its taste as he watched the party unfold before them.

Corazon glared at Silco before downing her drink. "Do it one more time and you'll find out why I stayed in this game far longer than anyone else."

"Of course. Now excuse me while I introduced myself to your little owl. Nice catch by the way. A thinker and a fighter? Why, I think I might just try and steal them away."Silco replied as he got up, giving her a small bow before leaving. He headed towards the little star of the show earlier and his sister.

"Ah, you must be Ark. I've heard wonderful things about you." Silco replied as he extended an arm out towards the smaller boy. The boy and his little girlfriend looked up to him a bit warily while the blue haired girl between them looked a bit curious

"... Likewise Mister Silco." the boy replied.

"Oh nothing so formal. Just call me Silco. I have a feeling that we might just be meeting a lot more in the future" Silco said as they shook hands.

A/N:

Welp, this is back in action. Haha... It's been a while hasn't it? While I could have written this earlier, I wasn't quite confident enough to give it a go. Needed to make sure I still got it so I wrote a chapter for my other fic for practice. As you can see, I'm once again confident enough to wrtie for my first successful fic. Hope nothing major hapoens on my end that would really put a crunch on my schedule. As for that story, thats in a certain questionable site

So back to story. The movers of Zaun! It took a god damn while to write this cause show don't tell made me rewrite some stuff. Lot's of things here has purpose and this chapter is really needed for Act 2 for reasons I wouldnt be touching upon till later cause it'll he spoilers

Finally, I'd like to thank vyor like always cause I'm a goof who makes lots of mistakes in my writing as well as my patrons: Phillip Nguyen, Nick P, Anon, Rashomon, Evil_Bob and Brandon Pittman. Wouldnt have half the motivation without you guys.

As always, from here on out, I'd like to remind you that I have a patreon page! I also have a Ko-Fi page! There's also this discord page. I'd really like to have people to talk to about this fic. Also, this money is going tp upgrading my laptop...dead battery is a bitch. No power means no writing.

Interlude 6
Interlude 6: The Watchers

The Windward Guardian

A single beat of a bird's wings is enough to alter the course of the weather forever, or so one of my favored children once said. All it takes is a tiny miniscule change, a little nudge or maybe a push to the right direction or person, is all it takes to affect the greater sea of chaos that is life. That was how I met my favored champion, my little fledgling, my brave little owl.

To think that I met them when I tried to make a girls day just a bit brighter. I've watched them closely ever since, silently watching over them as the two became three and soon became a family. It warmed my heart knowing that people of Oshra Va'Zaun had yet to lose their heart amidst all the despair and gloom that has befallen my beloved city these past centuries.

I watched them grow, joining them in their triumphs and soothing them in their sorrows. It was to my greatest joy that they took to the skies like the Ascendants of old. My wind shall forever guide their wings so long as they remain true to their heart. While they may never see me, I'll still remain by their side, guiding them and helping them.

Their tireless dedication to helping their own beloved was inspiring, and to think that they're love could push them to slay the abomination from beyond the realm of reality. If this was what they could do for their own, I could only imagine what more they could do if they were to love this city.

It might not be the happiest place, nor the most prosperous but its people, oh its people. They can be quite prickly at times but like a desert cactus, given the right circumstance can bloom and show their beauty to others. They are a hardy and tenacious bunch whose drive pushes them forward. Despite their misgivings, they remain bonded together. They are a family who stayed together despite all the hardships. They could leave and abandon this very city but not even the very earth taking them down to its depths could kill their spirit. It's only my hope that my champion could get past the city's tough outer layer and see the sweetness that lies within and that my city would not shun them away for their drive for change.

My little owl might not know it, but I could see the potential he holds for the city. Every little action he had was slowly brightening up the day of the people around them. He reminds me so much of Ne'zuk in his youth. So bright and full of potential. Only time will tell if he'll live up to his predecessor. If he were to live up to them… he shall be this city's savior.

They shall be the bringer of change to my city. They shall lift the veil of misery that has befallen my people and bring them joy. The path that they take will be long and arduous, filled with perils and hardship, but my clever little inventor will overcome them.

That would be far in the future and yet to be certain. For now, I wait and hope. His life is certainly entertaining enough for it to be all worth it. His wedding in my shrine was the cutest thing. Oh young love, I wished them luck.~

The Watcher from the Stars

High above the heavens above, just beyond the physical realm where the Aspects live, sat two beings of immense power. One was a dragon of immense size whose very being was made of stars and galaxy while the other was an eternally young girl whose flowing hair glittered with star dust.
6
The dragon was busy playing with the very essence of creation, bringing forth new stars to play with so as to ward off the immense feeling of annoyance he currently felt for his… ward. The girl's insistent hum grated on his nerves, wearing away at like a thousand nails dragging along a chalkboard while her tiny little feet beat against his right eye as she sat upon his head.

The girl was immensely annoying but his hands were tied both metaphorically and physically. He only wished he wasn't shackled by the thrice damned beings that were the girl's people. Still, he was merely annoyed with her and not frothing with anger like how he usually felt around them.

Zoe was a far better companion than having none at all. She might be the closest being he could call… a friend, for the lack of a better term. He couldn't call her an acquaintance given how she kept sticking around and proudly proclaimed she'd protect him back then and he could not not call her a friend as he barely tolerated her existence. Frenemy might be another option but he didn't really despise her enough to call her an enemy on top of being a friend.

"Hey space puppy, ever had someone that really makes you go... I like you, Like a lot?" Asked the girl on top of him, breaking his concentration on star making. Ahhh yes, space puppy. Oh how the great and powerful Aurelian Sol had fallen. Still, her question intrigued him as he quietly placed down the stardust he gathered to make more stars and looked up to his companion.

Her, In love? Well that's one way to break the monotony of their current situation.

"A boy caught your eye?" He asked, feeling amused for once. 'Oh this will be interesting' he thought to himself. Laying down across his favorite galaxy, he tucked himself in as he waited for the metaphorical sparkles to fly.

"She's nottt a boy?" Zoe replied as she covered her face and made the most amusing of sounds. She almost sounded like a star that was just about to go supernova or maybe a tea kettle. He couldn't help but tease the younger girl.

He gasped out in mock shock as he whispered "A girl? Oh this is just precious! Little Zoe found a sweetheart.~"

He let out a hearty laugh as Zoe flipped onto her stomach and started beating her tiny little first against his adamantium scales.

"Stop calling her that! It's so embarrassing. We're totally not ever in love! We haven't even met yet…" Zoe replied as she soon got tired of ineffectually assaulting his poor brow and plopped down against his head. He could practically feel the pout she sported. He only wished he could see it now.

"Ahh, still trying to build up the courage to meet them!" He playfully replied as he rested his chin against his hands. "Why don't you describe them to us? First impressions matter after all. If you want to impress her, you must know her. Will she be impressed by your confidence or will it scare her away? Is she demure or is she bold? Things like that."

He's totally not fishing for details to tease Zoe with later. A mural of the poor mortal who caught her attention would be a fun little project he could make in secret.

"Well… How do I start… She's so freaking amazing! She's like Bam! Zap! Boom!" Zoe shouted as she got up and jumped off his brow and flew in front of him.

"She's like Auntie Kayle but totally not a killjoy. I think the two could meet cause Auntie needs some pointers in being awesome sauce. She's like a wet towel you know, all justice this, duty that! Boring! All work and no play but this girl I found in Stinkville is like…" Zoe sighed out dreamily as she looked towards Runettera. Oh dear, he didn't know she had it bad. He bumped up his little project in his schedule.

Swimming in the endless cosmos and around his head, she continued "She has these pretty little wings made of sparky metal. Not quite sparkly but just add an L and it's sparkly so it's close enough."

He couldn't help but snort at that. While her logic can take leaps and bounds, let it not be said that it's not entertaining.

"She usually wears white and lighter colors but you wouldn't believe what she wore last week! She wore pink! It was just a pink skirt but she rocked it! Did I tell you she's super awesome because she totally is. I could still remember how she beat that tentaclely cyclops from the beyond. She punched it! Socked it right in the face and broke its neck! Even made a hole in her city. There was also this other time when she was being chased by this bad doggo but she went full Volcano Goat and cobbled together a high power linear sparkly shooter and made things glowy. The sheer electrical potential of her motor sent sparks everywhere and then the finale was mwah! Perfection!" A goofy smile stretched across her face as she twirled around while holding herself.

"She's… perfect." Then, realization dawned upon her face and that look in her face broke his composure. The way her eyes widened as she jumped in place while covering her mouth made him bite his lips while holding back the laughter.. He didn't know that Aspects could turn that funny shade of red

"Oh no. Oh no no no no no!" Zoe shouted as she turned scarlet from head to toe.

"No what Zoe?" He asked as he wiped away the tears from his eyes. It was all too much for his poor self.

"I…I!" She curled upon herself as the very aether around her roiled from her barely contained emotions.

"Yesss?" Laughter kept bubbling up his chest as he laid his head down against the galaxy and pounded against the stars.

"I think I'm in love!" Zoe shouted to the heavens. She squealed out as she covered her mouth and let out a muffled shout.

If he was mortal, his stomach would have been hurting. Thankfully, he was more than that, but he couldn't hold back his laughter. This only served to make Zoe go ballistic as she stomped in anger and embarrassment.

"Stop laughing! This is a very serious matter! The most super duper mega serious matter!"

"My my, You're sounding more like your Auntie Kayle." he replied making Zoe gasped in genuine horror. Clutching her head, she cried out in anguish before ever so dramatically falling down on one of the nebula's he had set aside for the creation of more stars.

"... I can't get her out of my head. It's so frustrating! I thought I wouldn't have to deal with this for a few more years but here it is. I kinda feel bad teasing Moon Moon now" Zoe replied as she pouted at him.

"Must be quite frustrating" He replied as he pushed himself off his galaxy and circled around her.

"It's like everywhere I look, I get reminded of her. All I could think now when I watch the high powered jets of energy between the interaction of a white dwarf and a red giant is her lightning. The sparks dancing along her fingers and wings along with the magnetic field she makes whenever she flies, all too familiar sights everywhere" Zoe replied in melancholy as she stared longingly towards Runeterra. Ah yes, she was a divine and a mortal. A tale as old as time yet if someone caught Zoe's attention of all people, there's a slight chance for a happy ending to this story but that would mean he had one more Ascended to deal when the time comes.

"Just the thought of them alone makes my stomach flip flop around. I feel butterflies in my stomach. Like I feel them fluttering inside me whenever I think of them" Zoe added as she placed her hands over her stomach.

"Or you might just be feeling that you mortals call gas." He teased her, making her blanch in disgust. She was making it all too easy for him to tease her today. Grabbing a handful of stardust, she threw a glob at him in retaliation. He tilted his head to the sight and let the comet fly.

"Ew ew ew ew! Stop ruining my fantasy, space puppy!" She shouted as she grabbed more stardust and kept throwing. He laughed out loudly as he shielded his eyes from the dust flying all around.

Soon the rain of stardust and he was left alone in his corner of the universe. With days like these, the wait for the day of his impending freedom was more tolerable. Still, he needed something to do after Zoe left so he'll be looking closely at Runettera. Another constellation or two wouldn't hurt, especially when he gets to tease Zoe back later.

The Grey Lady

Some would imagine that the main office Clan Ferros as a giant hall filled office workers caught up in a whirlwind of chaotic energy as people clamored for attention for their project or maybe it was filled with an army of clerks and accountants working in perfect synchrony to support the head of the Clan in their day to day life but it was far more modest than that.

While the clan does have an army of clerks and accountants, they were not cooped up inside one large hall. They were divided into departments with their own offices. It was far more efficient that way so as to not drown each other as well as keep each department focused on their task rather than be pulled into another.

Still, there was chaos inside the building yet it was controlled and contained. The chaotic energy harnessed and focused on the improvement of the clan and its assets. The insistent and ceaseless clattering of typewriters documenting everything made sure that nothing went missing amidst it all. They worked away at all the requests and projects, trimming away at the fat from the various reports before pushing them up the chain of command. Each little step distilled everything to a purer and truer version of the information before it was funneled into the center of the operation. Sitting in the middle of it all, the nexus of this huge operation, was the head of the clan.

Hidden inside her room and surrounded by her advisers like the court of distant Demacia, Chloe Ferros sat on her comfortable chair while reading through the reports given to her by her relatives and workers laid across her massive mahogany desk. The sound of music playing softly in the background while she worked. Sinking into the plush seat, she read through one particular file by a certain Jayce of Clan Talis.

"I tell you, my mistress Chloe, Mister Talis's invention would revolutionize the shipping industry! I say, it might even surpass the Sungate's importance on the world stage." Reggie, her most trusted Financier, explained with a profound interest and enthusiasm she often so frequently heared from him whenever he presented her with another project her uncle Albus managed to sniff out.

She hated the pompous bastard with his strutting steps and air of self importance but she couldn't deny how good he was with headhunting talents and finding obscure yet revolutionary inventions just waiting to be funded.

"These Hexgates sound… interesting but the explosions and accidents from the device are rather concerning." She replied as she read the part of the report detailing the risk and possible cost of the project. The project has merits but the accidents made news around Piltover…"

"Yes, the steam golem incident was a scary event but even that test was technically a success!"

An entire golem getting stuck and literally fused into the walls of the academy was not a promising sign. It's as if the project needed more people to work on it but from what she'd heard, young Jayce was notoriously prideful. Still, it had merits.

"I think… I'll sign a 5 year contract with our young inventor. If he could deliver a safer prototype, we might consider a bigger grant."

"Most excellent. You will not be disappointed!" Money was not of particular concern if it meant that Clan Ferros was ahead of the competition.

She was just about to sign on the contract for such a deal when she heard a certain sound. She felt her stomach drop as the sound of knives gently tapping against the marble floor of her home. She could hear it even as the gramophone played in the background. She could feel it in her very teeth, the delicate taps of steel against stone. The sound pierced through the beat of the song like how men had been parted with those very same blades.

"Mistress, is everything all right?" Reggie asked in concern as her hand shaked.

"O-oh, it's nothing. Now come along now I know you have a busy day so shoo!" Chloe replied as she stood up and pushed the man away from her office. She didn't want him here around her.

"W-woah, I'm going. No need to rush, mistress." He replied as he finally got her little message. Just as she pushed him off her office, his eyes widened as if he saw a ghost. He practically stumbled into a sprint just as she closed the door.

The hair on the back of her neck stood up as she felt her presence. She was here and whenever she comes, only death follows.

"Hello darling." A deceptively sweet yet cold voice greeted her. Chloe swallowed, gathering her courage, before she slowly turned around to greet her.

"Aunt Camille." She greeted the woman before her as she tried to hide the trembling in her voice. Chloe had to admit that this was one of her better days but it still didn't stop her from freezing at the sight of her intelligencer. Even as the woman read a newspaper while standing just behind her seat, she couldn't help but flinch away at the sight of her glowing blue eyes.

"It seems that the missing shipment of high quality Hex crystals missing from our inventory has been found." Her aunt suddenly said, making her frown as she remembered that particular incident. Signing the death warrant for an entire factory wasn't something one would easily forget.

"Weren't those crystals destroyed in the fire?" She asked as she slowly walked back to her said, her eyes trailing down to the woman's massive blades

"It seems they were not." Her aunt replied as she laid down the paper she had been reading.

Chloe traced the image imprinted on the front page. Imposed upon the main page was the image of the Owl. She wasn't sure what the Owl had to do with those crystals until she realized something. His tech wasn't powered by any of Zuan's usual power sources. His wings lacked the exhaust of the alchemical engines nor the tubes denoting a more chemtech power source.

"A-aunt, you know we can't approve of any action against them now! And for what? A couple of crystals? We can get more!" She shouted. Her Aunt had killed Chembarons before but this was far different than a mere jumped up thug, this was the golden boy of Zaun and not just that but an up and coming inventor of Clan Vereza.

Sure the Vereza's were merely Chem Barons but they were the bigger one's, one's that her very own clan backed in the great game down below. An action against them would break the delicate accord they had with the Vereza's.

"It's not just the crystals dear. They're not thieves but genuine threats to our supremacy." She added

"I know! I know. They've been making waves ever since they got to the College of Techmaturgy but we'll have a war on our doorstep if they find out!" she shouted as she sank down on her seat.

Her aunt snorted as she replied "You think I'm so crude as to kill them in broad daylight? There is still time. They haven't caught up to us yet."

"Still… auntie, please reconsider this. They're bound to run out of new inventions. Someone can only come up with so much till they run out of ideas to give." Chloe replied. The risk far outweighed the positives. If they found them before they became established, they could have nipped the treat before it took root but it was already too late. Far too late.

Her aunt simply shook her head before she said "This boy… is a generational talent, one that the under city possesses. They are a threat to not only our clan but to the very position of Piltover. But rest easy for now my dear, there might be an opportunity for us to take advantage in the future."

Chloe couldn't deny that fact. The boy was a genuine threat as he was now. She still had reservations but he would have to disappear… but not now, not yet.

"Just please be careful Auntie. You know this could blow up in our face."

"I'm not like your great grandfather dear. You know I'll never let our family fail."

Chloe could only hope her words ring through as she once again signed a death warrant. The things she gave for the family.

Act 2 Chapter 1
Scrapyard Angels Act 2 Chapter 1

My day started with the annoying buzz of an alarm clock. It was far enough that neither I or Vi could quite reach it while we lay down on our shared bed. It did its job well enough and we hated it for it. Sleep was a far better affair when you're not worried by a sudden flood from the drainage pipe overhead.

"Five more minutes." Groaned out Vi as she pulled up one of our pillows and tried to muffle out the insistent and grating buzz of the alarm. The sound of Whump soft whimpering snores could be heard even as the alarm kept on blaring. I wish I had his ability to sleep through the alarm but alas.

"Need to cook breakfast." I yawned out as I rolled off the comfort of our bed to turn off the alarm. All it took was one tap but finally we have some peace and quiet.

With one foot down, I groggily searched for my other foot soon after. Rubbing the sleep off my eye, I looked around trying to find that prosthesis hoping that it didn't fall over when we were sleeping. With the light of the morning sun shining from the window by our bed, I had a far easier time finding it.

"Breakfast sounds good…" Vi groaned as she pulled the cover over her head. A couple extra minutes for her wouldn't hurt and it's not like she'll be able to sleep through breakfast when the kitchen's just outside.

"I'll think of something up." I said back as I screwed my other foot on and grabbed my other hand. Let me tell you, sleeping with a metal arm does not make for a happy wife so best leave it on the nightstand. Getting off the bed was a challenge all on its own when the inviting figure of my wife was just there under the cover but the day already began and things need to be done

With a bit of spring in my step, I wandered off to the bathroom. Washing my face on the sink, I stared back at the figure in front of me. It's been… four years since that particular incident. I grew an inch or so my cheeks filled up a bit but I still looked almost the same. Puberty… any day now?

Still, things are better now. We had a home to go back to every day and soon enough, we'll have a house of our own. We have food in the pantry so we won't have to worry about going hungry for the night and more importantly, we still have each other to enjoy this all. Our home would be a little bit emptier if either one of us went missing.

With a smile on my face, I went off to cook breakfast. We really didn't have much time to cook up anything fancy for the morning. With a quick check in our pantry, I found that we're running out on some of the essentials like vegetables and preserved meat. Still, there was plenty of stuff to go around and the reserve stock of freeze dried soups has been barely touched.

Grabbing a couple of potatoes, sausages, eggs and a hunk of old cheese along with the essential spices and some pre-prepared flour tortilla, I decided to make some breakfast burritos. It seems that alone was enough to summon Mr. Floofington into the kitchen.

Patting the plague rat head, having made sure to give him a bath once every week and keeping him away from the dumps, I asked him "So, Jinx snuck off again?"

Floofington looked away with a shrug as he sat down beside me. I merely raised a brow at him as I waited for an answer. In response, he extended a hand out. I rolled my eyes at that. He was quite the greedy little rat but he was a cute greedy little rat.

"Of course." I handed him a piece of sausage. He chartered happily as he grabbed the offered food and gobbled it up.

"Why do you act as if we don't feed you enough? Look at you, getting all soft and fat." I poked him at his developing paunch which prompted him to give me the dirtiest look he could muster.

"What? I'll keep poking it everyday if you don't lift your ass up and move a bit." He hissed back.

"So, back to Jinx, were Seraphine and Cindy involved?" I asked. Floofington nodded on both names. Spirits damn it all. I massaged my temples as I walked over to the counter to at least start breakfast now. Things just got a whole lot more complicated. Seraphine, bless her pure heart, was the one of the few persons that could tame Jinx's wild side. Having to deal with Cindy as well however, yeah…

"Did she go explore the ruins down below?" I then asked. I had my guess on where she was but best to check on other places first. I was met with a head shake.

"Top side?" I added, hoping she didn't have to go up there. She had been in enough trouble there and then there was that weird shooting rivalry she has with Caitlyn. My worst fears however were answered as he nodded.

"She did leave you something to eat right?" I asked with a groan as I started chopping up some onions as well as getting a pot of water heated up for morning tea. It was going to be busy today it seems.

Floofington happily shaked his head to a negative which means she did leave him some food. "Yup, seems like she did leave you some in her room. Speaking about her room, how bad is it"

Floofington faked a gag as he waved his paws in front of his nose. Well, at least that's one thing I could always rely on Jinx for. Keeping things clean… even if she often messes up the things on my chair.

Taking a quick glance at my work table, I saw it cleaned and immaculately arranged which means I have to sort through the trash to find any of my crumpled notes again. I really should have a barrel of crumpled paper just so any ideas I throw away can be revisited next time.

Grabbing the bits and ends of the things I prepared, Floofington opened up his mouth as I gave him any vaguely digestible. Nothing woody or anything though, well… he could practically eat everything but I just made sure its bite size for him.

Cooking things was relaxing. Toss in the onions to caramelize it then add the potatoes and wait to brown before the garlic comes in. Adding the sausages and the spices made my mouth water as the heavenly scent of the sausage fat cooking all the ingredients filled the air.

I could honestly lose myself in the motions as I scooped up the mixed ingredients and set them aside for the eggs. Just scramble them before tossing them in the pan to soak in all those flavors. Adding a few spinach just to have something green in it, all that's left now was to heat up the tortilla.

"Breakfast Burritos?" Asked Vi with a yawn as I heard her walk out of our room.

"Yup. Had to make them cause I think I have to get Jinx some lunch." I could hear her sigh out in exasperation as she wrapped her arms around me. I leaned in against her touch, feeling her strong arms around my slight frame.

She practically dwarfed me and if it wasn't for Jinx shooting up like a beanstalk, she would have towered over her as well. Still, it was nice to lean against her, especially on cold nights.

"Morning Vi." I greeted her just as she gave me a kiss on top of my head. "Had a good sleep?"

"Was nice. Wish Jinx didn't have to start trouble so early this month. We just bailed her out like last month?" She replied as she rested her chin against my head.

"I do have to say that her mural was amazing, though I really wonder why she had to do it on the walls of the University of Piltover." I smiled fondly at that memory. It wasn't even anything vaguely anarchistic or destructive. It was just a mural of animals and plants along with some representation of evolution. I'd have to check it out if they already power washed it away.

"Yeah, it was nice to look at but damn it that girls going to get in trouble for something we can't bail her out on one of these days." Vi complained.

"She's in good hands and she needs to learn." Ark replied. I'd rather have Jinx express her boundless energy into something constructive rather than have it be pent up only for it to blow up in a more destructive manner. Rather a can of spray paint rather than a bottle of Molotov."

"Yeah… it's just hard not to worry, you know?" Vi acquiesced to my point.

Scooping up the eggs, I then wrapped them up and made three burritos with one extra hefty one for VI. Breakfast is served.

Sitting on her lap while we ate our breakfast in peace, we sat together in silence as we enjoyed each other's presence.

"So, have something to do later?" She asked, breaking the silence while I took a bite of my Burrito.

"Going to drop by the Progress Day parade. Check on some stuff. Who knows maybe I'll get something of worth." I replied.

Vi snorted as she said "You're running circles around those clowns. Why would you need to visit them anyways?"

I chuckled at that. It would be hard for Piltovan Inventors to catch up when I had some ideas on which inventions probably worked and a whole circle of friends to inspire with some of my 'repurposed' ideas. "Hey, just scouting out the competition. Who knows, maybe I'll get some laughs. Joking aside though, I'm going to check out Professor Hiemerdingers exhibit."

I'll never be as smart as the guy. He was the Renaissance man of Runeterra. The man was light years ahead of his peers. I swear he's just limited with the tools he has in his arsenal but that will not stop me from trying to catch up to him. I might not be a Da Vinci but I'll be the next best thing, an Edison.

Now, if only we could entice the Professor to go teach in Zaun instead. Zaun is still a shit hole though but it's getting better especially around the Vereza side. It was the right choice siding with them.

"You actually got some tickets to one of his lectures?" Vi asked with an amused tone. I wasn't kidding when I said the man was like Da Vinci. He was a superstar in the field of science and magic. His lectures can actually sell out like a concert, which was why he was selling tickets. Man needs to fund his research and I can respect that.

"You forget the people I know." I replied rather smugly but laughed as I said "Nah, it's more of the dear Doctor and my Professor having some extra tickets. I might have begged them for an extra two to get you and Jinx a seat."

Had I some shame? Well, I had some but not enough to stop me from doing that. Besides, it's something the three of us can all enjoy together.

"I wonder if he got new designs I could use for my Gauntlet. Now if only his assistant wasn't such a jackass." I snorted at that. Jayce Talos was something else. He was as talented as he was prideful and he deserved every bit of his pride as I had to begrudgingly admit.

"Why would you keep on working on those massive over-compensators when you have these puppies?" I asked in turn as I leaned back and snuggled against her. I had the best wife. I received a boop over my head for my trouble but I could feel how she blushed at my compliment.

"Quite you or I'll get the horny bat!" I raised my hand in surrender at that.
"Ok ok,~ easy there." I chuckled as I kept leaning against her. I was going to repeat what I said, I had the best wife.

"You horny little minx." She growled out light heartedly as she shook her head.

"I'm not just a horny little minx, I'm you're horny little minx.~" I replied as I looked up to her and waggled my eyebrows.

That broke her composure as she threw up her hands before she brought it down and grabbed me by side. I jumped slightly at the feeling and I started sweating. "Gah! I give up. Fine, if that's how you wanna play then let's go with this then!"

"V-vi, s-sthap! I-let's talk about this! hAH!" I tried reasoning with her but it was for naught as she started tickling me non stop. I squirmed under her grasp but she was far stronger than I was.

"V-vi p-please! I'm g-gonna p-pee!" I laughed out, begging for her to end this before it's too late. Thankfully, she relented. I breathed out a wheeze as I tried to catch my breath while she laughed.

"I'll get you for this." I panted out as I gave her a light hearted glare.

"You can try." Vi replied with a smug smile on her face.

I shook my head as we finished our breakfast in peace. It didn't take long before we ate our burritos and drank our morning tea before we were ready for the day. It was the weekend but we still had things to do like trying to find where Jinx went.

"Going to be looking for Jinx. Meet you at the Fair at topside later?" I asked as I opened up the drawer where I hid my wings. While I didn't change much in four years, I did grow. I needed bigger wings as bigger wings meant I could add more stuff on to it as well as provide myself with more cover.

"Yeah, going to save you two some seats." Vi answered as she tied her shoes on. If there's one person that could intimidate anyone, it's Vi.

Putting on my wings, I felt complete. The moment it attached to my crystal, it felt like I was free once more. I tapped the crystal in its new place, a socket on my chest. I was ripping off Iron Man but with how it was tied to me to a spiritual level if I was being honest, I say it fits.

"Welp, wish me luck!" Giving her a kiss, I went off to go find our wayward sibling.

Walking over to the door leading to the balcony, I stared down at the yawning chasm that Zaun was located in. The wind was howling while the wisp of the Grey floated about at a certain layed. The Grey was particularly thin during this time of the year so I could almost see the bottom of the Sump. Bridges and pipes crisscrossed between each cliff wall while airships of various sizes made their way across Zaun.

To some, the sight of the Chasm below would be enough to make their knees weak but for me, it called out. I could feel the pull of the void below and I answered it. Stepping up to the railings separating me from a hundred feet drop and relative safety, I stood there as I spread my wings wide. Strapping my mask on, I breathed in fresh air as the filters worked their magic with the polluted air of Zaun.

With the grace afforded me by my wings, I turned around and gave Vi a salute before throwing myself off the edge. The winds rushed against me as I dove down without a care in the world. In these few precious seconds of weightlessness, the world seemed to slow down to a crawl. Every little detail seemed to pop out and the world became more vibrant. My hands traced the cloth of a passing airship as I passed by it. The looks of shock and horror of someone seemingly falling to their death never does get old.

With a single wing beat, I corrected my path as I looped under a bridge and flew straight through the valley of Zuan. My wings guided me to my destination as I flew up higher, passing by the haze of the Grey on my way up. Bursting through the putrid air, I found myself flying once more in the sky of Piltover.

The light of the morning sun was almost blinding but I managed to right myself and avoid hitting any passing ships in the air.

The sharp contrast between Zaun and Piltover was always quite the sight. One one hand, a city of sharp gothic architecture made of glass and steel and on the other hand was an Art Deco city of Marble, bricks and brass.

Admittedly, Zaun was still shitty but it was getting better. The new industries spouting around Zaun were feeding its citizens. Championing against exploitative industries was hard work but it was going especially when these same industries came crashing with new innovation coming out of the laboratories of the College of Techmaturgy.

My mind was pulled aside as I saw the fanfare in the streets of Piltover as they celebrated Progress day. It was one of the things I liked about Piltover. Their celebration was happier while Progress Day in Zuan was Remembrance Day. We still mourn about being pulled into the earth but I wasn't one to question the holiday.

Still, while going down and celebrating with them sounded fun, I still needed to find Jinx. The first stop I was going to make was over the Wardens Headquarters, the Piltover Police Department. The building was unmistakable despite how it blended with the surrounding. Close to the Sun Gates, the glare of its glass dome was unmistakable.

I slowed down as I slowly circled down. My entrance however was not missed as two officers were there to meet me, lovely. Well, time to see what Jinx was up to last night.

Act 2 Chapter 2
Act 2 Chapter 2

Walking down the halls of the police headquarters with two police escorts made it look like I was some prisoner but in truth the head of the Wardens was just a dick waving ass. They were sent here to be as intimidating as possible but it only works a few times till you get to know every last officer inside the building. They were nice, it's just that they didn't have a great reputation once they had to enter places near Zaun with their gas mask. You couldn't see their faces but they can't tolerate the toxic air down below.

"Hey Billy, you know that I've been here a dozen times already, right?" I said as I glanced toward my right.

"Ayup." the tall, broad shouldered Warden replied with a shrug as we passed through a room full of Wardens and clerks doing paperwork. They looked bored out of their minds, especially the Wardens who sometimes glance towards the window overlooking the city longingly.

"Also, why are you guys here? I expected both of you to be in the grounds, especially you Sam." I added as I turned to my other side.

"See, we done fucked up that's what we did. Spilled some tea on the boss man's uniform. Well now, we're here babysitting the new recruits along with madam Kiriman." The weasley looking man replied as he lit a pipe.

I wrinkled my nose at the smell but kept it to myself for now. I had my mask on anyway so I didn't have to deal with the smell of tobacco.

Looking up at the large central dome of the building, I couldn't help but grimace as we passed by the center. I couldn't help but wince as we passed by the large chandelier holding an obscene amount of hex crystals. Recently, I'd been hearing a ringing sound emanating from most hex tech. I could feel it down to my very bones. This insistent omnipresent ringing that made my teeth hurt. Given what I know about them, it almost felt like they were screaming.

I played with my crystal as we passed by it. This feeling I had about them had been getting worse these past few years and it's never going to get any better. One day, Hextech would become obsolete but for now, they're here to stay.

"So, did Jinx give you any trouble?" I then asked, trying to distract myself as we continued heading deeper in the building.

"Nope." Billy ever so eloquently replied.

"She's a real proper angel up until Madam Kirimman got her hands on her. You should see what she did." Sam replied with a chuckle. I could only roll my eyes.

"Of course she did. What did she do?" I asked once more.

"Slapped Madam Kirimman on the ass she did." Sam guffawed as both Wardens sported shit eating grins across their mugs. I couldn't help but chuckle at that. Funny how even in another time and another place, Jinx is still antagonistic towards Caitlyn.

"I assumed Caitlyn punched her back?" The two liked each other much as cats and dogs did.

"Yup! Right at the kisser" I winced at what Sam told me. I just hoped she didn't chip a tooth or something from that but then again, Jinx was made of sterner stuff.

"Also, you do remember that Caitlyn hates being called Madam Kirimman right?" I reminded the other man as we walked.

"Exactly. She's Madam Kiriman." Billy replied, reinforcing the nickname given to the Kirimman heiress.

"I swear you two will never get promotions if you keep referring to her as Madam Kiriman. Who knows, maybe she'll become the new chief." I joked about, dropping hints on what Caitlyn might become in the future. Given her fate in another time as the Chief of the Wardens, it wouldn't be a stretch that might still be her fate here even without Vi by her side.

"Little Cait? The Chief? Hah! Not in a thousand years, not with ole' Marcus up in the helm." Sam replied as we rounded the corner. Curiously, I could hear someone singing as we got nearer to the cells. The sweet melody of the person's voice was a step up from what I've heard earlier.

"Just saying plus it wouldn't hurt not to poke her." I shrugged as we passed by people not so subtly hanging around the hall listening to the free concert being performed in the prison ahead.

"Nah, it's just ribbing you see. Toughens them up. Everyone's been through it, isn't that right Billy?" Sam replied as we finally got to where the Wardens hold people with minor misdemeanors.

There in the middle of the first cell stood a pink haired beauty singing her heart out to a captive audience of wardens and fellow prisoners accompanied by my wayward sister and a lovable and ever so adorable blonde with their instruments.

While the walls of a cell did not possess the best acoustic properties they still made it work as every last person inside the room had their eyes and ears on them. Serpahine's enchanting voice accompanied by the sheer energy of Jinx guitar and the beat of Cindy's drums was an entrancing sight to behold.

Walking past the crowd of wardens, I stood beside a familiar blue haired Warden clutching a letter closer to her chest while she watched with a star struck look as I watched along with her, letting myself get lost in the moment until the song finally ended. The room broke out into a thunderous applause as their audience clapped and hooted at the stellar performance they put up.

Serpahine smiled as she bowed before Jinx warped her hands around her shoulder and grinned at their audience. "Thank you! Thank you! You're too kind!" Jinx shouted and I couldn't help but chuckle as she was just loving the attention. With the makeshift concert over, I could finally talk with Caitlyn without being drowned out by their song.

"Hey Cait, how the hell did Jinx convince you to give her her guitar?" I asked the rookie Warden, causing her to jump in her seat as she swiveled towards me.

"Oh Ark! I didn't see you there." She said startled, holding her hand over chest before she let out a small laugh. "Why do you always like scaring me like that?" She then asked as she placed the letter she was holding on the desk.

I grinned back, letting my amusement show in my eyes, as he shrugged. "You're way too easy to jump scare."

Before she could reply, Jinx finally noticed me. Letting go of Seraphine, she rushed to the bars of her shared cell as she greeted me. "Ark! Finally, I thought you and Vi already abandoned me! Come on, We're kinda short on bail money so can you fork us some Hexes so we can finally get out of here? I swear I can hear Princess Pow begging to be released from the locker!"

And just like that, my headache returned. I groaned as I pinched the bridge of my nose, "What the hell did you do this time and didn't you have your allowance on you?"

"Hehe, about that. I might have used my emergency money to help set up our makeshift concert stage…" Jinx replied, looking away from me as she twiddled with her thumb and deflected the issue away from what she did.

I merely raised my brow at that as I turned towards the irate Caitlyn who glared at her frenemy.

"Oh I can answer that. Miss Vereza and her friends decided to hold an illegal concert over at the Plaza Medarda… as well as assaulting an officer." Caitlyn replied with her brows twitching at the following hoots and hollers made by some of the more immature officers inside the room.

A simple glare sent their way quickly shut them up. Another gesture had the wardens that had been hanging around in the room and avoiding work packing back to their work station. It was honestly impressive with how commanding Caitlyn could be with her looks. Maybe she inherited it from her parents.

Jinx pouted as she puffed up her chest before launching into an annoyed diatribe, "For the record, you know we have a permit but and we we're supposed to have a concert yesterday but that pompous ass and his stupid violin wanted revenge cause I wanted to show off my loud speakers at my friends concert instead of his." Jinx went on without pause as she paced around the room, "Like I was going to let him test it out in his concert which was a few hours after Seraphines performance but nooo, he wanted to be the first performer to use my invention so he went on became a dick by calling some friends up high to delay our permit and don't you tell me there was no foul play here cause that letter on your desk is our permit for a public concert! Fucker really had to rub it in that he has friends in high places."

I glanced towards the letter and sure enough it was what Jinx said it was complete with the seal of the ministry tasked with handling such a permit.

"Also, Ha! You call that assault? It was just me being touchy feely Cupcakes~ Come on, we're friends! That's what friends do." Jinx then said, making me groan. Oh dear, Jinx really had to poke Caitlyn on this one.

"You slapped me on the ass!" Caitlyn shouted which made me realize why the officers were all hooting. Yup, definitely sounds like something Jinx would do.

Jinx slapped Seraphine's ass making the girl squeak out while Cindy slapped Jinx's ass. Caitlynn squeaked, scandalized at such brazen acts especially with how Jinx offered her ass to the now annoyed and pouting Seraphine.

"Jinx, please don't tease Miss Kirimman any further." The pink haired girl begged Jinx.

"Just like what friends do!" Jinx replied with a shit eating grin stretching across her face which only made Caitlyn all the more irate about what happened with how her scowled deepened and how she turned a bright pink.

Seraphine sighed as she slapped Jinx's rear half heartedly so Jinx would finally stop pestering them.

"See? Even Seraphine's into it!"

"Y-yeah… Jinx, please? We're still in jail and I think my parents are starting to get worried…" Seraphine replied, laughing nervously as she rubbed her forearms.

"Don't worry Sera, I'll handle this." Cindy said as Jinx nodded before she turned to Cindy.

"Why can't I handle it!?" Jinx asked.

"Dude, her parent's don't really trust you after that incident." Cindy reminded Jinx, making her whine about it much to Caitlyn's displeasure.

"Gods damn it… You are insufferable." the poor Warden replied, making me snort out in amusement.

"You mean adorable?" Jinx fired back as she batted her eyes at Caitlyn causing the fellow bluenette to throw up her arms in frustration.

"Gah!"

"Are you still hung up on me beating you in the shooting contest?" Jinx then added as she wiggled her eyebrow at her frenemy.

"How many times do you have to bring that up! It was one time and I was sick that day. I kept sneezing and-!"

Yeah, this had gone long enough. The girls already let out what they have in their system so it's time to end this. Clearing my throat, I called their attention, making Caitlyn and Jinx shut up rather quickly.

"Jinx, apologize to Cait so we can get you three out of there. You know today's progress day and you probably know what I currently have in my back pocket right now." I said as I pulled out three tickets. Jinx gasped as she vibrated excitedly. Caitlyn couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at that as she looked back at me.

"So, what do we say to the nice officer?" I then asked as I waved the tickets in front of her. Jinx seemed to mull on her options as she turned to Caitlyn.

"I'm sorry Cait…" She apologized. Things would have been ok if Jinx didn't have to be… Jinx. "...for not slapping you hard enough down there cause damn girl! You can bounce a coin on that." She laughed out making Caitlyn fume once more while it only made me roll my eyes.

"Powder." I replied softly, making her wince before pouting at me. I merely stared back. Thankfully she relented as she sighed.

"... Ok, fine. I'm sorry I slapped your ass. I'll try not to do it again." Jinx apologized genuinely this time. I expected her to do it again but not in the foreseeable future.

"Good enough." I nodded, satisfied at how things went so far. Turning back to Caitlyn, I then asked "So Cait, how much is her bail this time?"

"How did you do that?" Caitlyn asked as she gestured at Jinx who was just waiting to get out. She was behaving for now and looked more annoyed than anything else.

"Do what?" I asked.

"Make her shut up." Caitlyn asked to which Jinx replied by blowing a raspberry at her.

"Practice and she knows what'll happen if she doesn't behave." I replied with an enigmatic smile.

"Please no laundry duty. I don't like having to clean Vi's stuff!" Jinx shouted as I nodded to which Caitlyn gave us both an incredulous look of disbelief. Even with a laundry machine, cleaning Vi's stuff could be annoying.

"That and some other stuff. Anyways, back to her bail." I added. Vi and I had our ways.

Things after that went smoother than expected. There weren't really any charges that stuck. Sure there were some due to the rioting caused by her arrest for the illegal concert but any charges using that as an excuse would be flimsy at best.

We waved our goodbyes to Cindy and Seraphine so the pinkette could go back home and explain what happened. Jinx and I had to wait for a bit as Princess Pow was still in the locker and was locked up inside a wooden box.

It took a while but Caitlyn finally found a crowbar to open the box. "Why did they have to nail her box! We have padlocks and chains for this kind of thing!" Caitlyn groaned as she tried prying the top of the large wooden box open.

"I might have given Princess Pow some arms to manipulate things and put your back into it Princess!" Jinx encouragingly replied as helped Caitlyn along.

Finally, the box was opened and out flew Princess Pow in a rain of packaging hay. Floating above us was what could be described as a Hextech Drone with a rotary gun strapped beneath its body. Its blue eyes sparkling with intelligence as it flew around before rushing to Jinx.

"Awww Pow Pow,~ did you miss me?" She asked as she hugged the Technomechanical being.

When I gave her the Hextech Crystal back then, she decided to attach it to a robot and out came Princess Pow. There was no bone aching scream nor a hollow sense of resignation from her, there was just her floating around and being well… a turret parrot as Jinx once called her.

"Why did you have to strap a rotary gun to her, Jinx?" Caitlyn asked as she wiped a stray bead of sweat from her forehead.

"It's cute on her plus every girl needs to have her own gun." Jinx replied as she fist bumped with the rather animated hoverbot.

Caitlyn shook her head as she replied "So long as you don't load her with bullets…"

"Yeah yeah, so can we go now?" Jinx asked as she waved off her concern.

"Fine. Please don't get in trouble with the law again?" Caitlyn sighed out. Jinx was about to fire out a quip but I cut her off as I placed my hands around her shoulder; a task that was proving to be getting harder each year with how tall Jinx was getting.

"I'll make sure to keep her in check while we're up here." I reassured Caitlyn as Jinx blushed while looking away.

Saying our goodbyes to her along with the various officers jokingly saying that Jinx better bring some Donuts when she comes back, we went off to go to the City square so we can finally join in the celebration.

We walked in relative silence as we passed by various groups of celebrating friends and families as they headed away or towards the center of the city. Today was a day of celebration, so it was inevitable that we had to deal with the slow traffic.

"Sorry about getting put in the cells again…" Jinx then said, breaking through the silence between us.

I sighed out as I shook my head "I'm not mad at you Jinx… I'm just…"

"Disappointed?" She asked with a wince.

"No actually. Not this time cause you stood up for your friends since you're in the right. I'm more afraid because one of these days, I might not be there for you." I replied

Jinx snorted in amusement as she replied "You? Going away, nah not happening. All three of us, together forever, remember?"

I chuckled as nodded "Yeah, I'll never leave you two cause I know that Vi would be way too cranky all the time while you'd go hungry."

"I totally can cook, you know." Jinx huffed as she crossed her arms across her chest.

"Said the girl who nearly burnt down the kitchen but, in all seriousness though Jinx, just be more careful next time." I replied, trying my best to get her to see some reason.

"Yeah. I'll make sure I don't get caught next time." Jinx replied which earned her a poke in the sides. She jumped away as she laughed out.

"Damn it! You know I'm ticklish." She complained as she glared at me half heartedly.

"Just making sure you're taking this seriously." I replied.

"Yeah. Sorry about that. Hey at least it took me six months till Iil ole' Cupcake decided to cuff me!" Jinx replied, trying to bring up the bright side of things

I turned towards her and asked "Who are you and what did you do to my Jinx?"

Jinx pouted as she replied "I'm learning ok. I'm no longer a kid."

"If you were a bit shorter, I'd give you headpats but you're already way taller than me. Hell, I think you might get taller than Vi!" I said as I jumped up just to see eye to eye with her. It was crazy how she shot up like a string bean after we settled down in our home for the last 4 years.

"I'm sure you'll hit puberty someday. Who knows, maybe you'll reach the pickle jars without having to use your wings.~" Jinx replied as she skipped ahead before breaking into a sprint.

"Jinx!" I shouted as I ran after her intending to give her a piece of my mind.

"Catch me if you can shortie~!" She laughed out as I took in the air.

"Hey! Flying is totally not fair!" She shrieked out laughing as I swooped down to mess with her hair.

"Said who?" I laughed in turn as she dodged my attempts.

Jinx was still a little shit even in this time where she grew up with a loving family, yet I wouldn't trade the world for her because she was a lovable little shit. My only hope for the future is that she'd still have that big bright smile of hers.

Act 2 Chapter 3
Act 2 Chapter 3

The sight of progress day in Piltover was always something to behold. When I first saw it several years ago, it took my breath away and even now it still does. There was always something new, or in my case, something familiar just appearing around the corner. Even Jinx had to agree with me, skipping ahead to see every little display and leaving me with Pow who floated beside me. The day was almost perfect.

"Hey slow down, we have the entire day! What's the rush?" I called out to Jinx and ran after her, only to bump into someone wearing white. I was about to apologize when an ear piercing shriek suddenly assaulted my senses. It was a mind numbing sound that made it feel like stakes were being pushed into my head.

I greeted my teeth as I soldier on even while my vision wavered and doubled before me. There was something off today, I could feel it down to my bones. Even Pow looked distressed as her eyes turned red while looking around.

I'd learned long ago to ignore their cries, as listening to them intently was a one way trip to insanity, but they weren't the cries of pain today; they were the cries of fear. I couldn't understand why of all days this was happening as I reached out for one of the lamp posts for support. I felt like I needed to puke my guts out as the cries persisted before they were cut off with Jinx grabbing hold of me.

"Ark? Ark! Eyes on me, focus! Hey! Eyes here." I heard Jinx ask as I felt her cup my cheek. I blinked away the tears from my eyes. My doubled vision soon focused upon the look of worry painted across Jinx's face.

"I-I'm fine" I replied as I slowly straightened up. "Just one of my headaches." I said, not elaborating on it any further. Headaches were always a staple for me around Hextech but today was a very strange one. I looked around, wondering where the stranger I bumped into was but they were already gone.

Jinx smiled yet the worry in her eyes stayed as she slung her arms around my shoulder. "A bad one today huh? We could… go back home? I wouldn't mind." She offered but I waved off her worries.

"It's fine. I might just need to take some Aspirin." I replied. They were a lifesaver and to think someone could synthesize it from Willow Bark.

"Hey now, I'm totes fine with it if you're not ok. I promise." Jinx replied as she traced a cross over her heart.

I grinned as I asked, "Really Jinx? Totes? Here I thought the Piltovan school would cure that."

Jinx rolled her eyes as she declared "Oh please, it should be the girls at my school that should be worried about my influence! 100% Zaunite girl here baby! Down to the bone, right Pow?." The automaton bumped up against Jinx's fist as the bot's eyes turned back to a calm blue.

"Should I be worried about having to beat back girls instead of boys? I fear for the virtue of those girls considering sweet Seraphine." I then asked, causing her to sputter in embarrassment in response.

"I'm not looking for a girlfriend, or boyfriend! Whatever! I'm just not interested in any of my classmates, ok?" She said she looked away while her ears were tinged red. "Also, I did not corrupt Seraphine. She's still the sweet and innocent girl I met at the Promenade." She then added.

"You checked?" I asked as a smug smile slowly spread across my face.

Jinx nodded with a smile as she replied "I check-! Ark! Ewww disgusting! Stop it!". But it was already too late as I snickered at her expense

"Also, I don't hear any denial.~ How would poor innocent Seraphine take the news that you're seeing another girl?" I then teased, pressing forward as I straightened up.

"Arkkk!" Jinx shouted as she pulled away and shoved me with a pout in her face. She was all red and huffing in embarrassment now but it only made her all the more adorable.

"My Sweet Jinx, a heartbreaker. Who would have known she'd grow up such a charmer." I replied as I staggered a bit before keeping my balance. I wiped a false tear away as Jinx stomped in annoyance before a dawning horror overcame her.

"Am not! Am I?" Jinx denied at first before questioning herself. "Oh spirits, did some of the parents of the girls in class visit you and Vi when I was away?!" She then asked as she grabbed me by the shoulders.

I couldn't help it now as I went into a full blown laughter as Jinx gave me a look. "Really? Well, since you're already in the teasing mode, I think you're all good now."

"Yeah yeah, sorry about that." I replied as I took a deep breath to calm myself. "But seriously, are we going to have to talk to any parents aside from Seraphine's?"

The punch that I received in the shoulder stung like hell with her bony fist but it was well worth it.

We didn't have to wait for long before Vi came to meet us at our pre designated meeting spots. She didn't come alone, however, as she had Seraphine and Cindy with her. The gang was all here and were all eager to explore this year's fare but first, Vi made it clear that she wanted to show Jinx what she was feeling right now.

We watched as Vi held Jinx in a choke hold and gave her a noogie. "Ow ow ow! I fucked up! fucked up! Now let me gooo-!" Jinx begged as she tried to pull Vi's iron grip off her but Vi outmuscled us both by a wide margin. Only Cindy had more muscle but she was also way bigger so it didn't count.

''Do you know how worried sick we were when we woke up this morning?! And what's this I've heard about antagonizing Caitlyn?" She scolded Jinx as she kept her hold. I gently patted Pow who looked in worry.

"She started it!" Jinx shouted before she tried biting her way out, but those were tightly corded muscles born from hard labor as a mechanic.

"I know you two hate each other like cats and dogs but can you just let it go! I don't even know why you two hate each other." Vi said in exasperation.

Some people were looking at the scene our group was making but we waved them along while giving silent apologies.

"If she stops being stupid and all fake princess charming then maybe I will!" Jinx fires back only to suffer another noogie for her trouble.

"God damn it Jinx. I don't want to hear anything about you starting trouble again, you hear young lady!?" Vi shouted making it clear with the tone of her voice that she was only feeling merciful now.

"Ok! Ok! Just let me go!" Jinx finally relented. It was only then that Vi let her go.

Jinx stumbled to the ground breathing heavily as she reached out to me and the other as she said "Air! Sweet merciful air! I thought I was going to suffocate from Vi's body odor!"

I snorted as Seraphine reached out to her hand and lifted her up. She could be quite dramatic when she wanted to be and very touchy as she latched onto Serpahine who only sighed as Jinx slung her arms around her shoulder. Pow floated over the two and happily flew around them.

"Oh grow up. I had plenty of hot water use since you spent the night uppside." Vi replied before she ever so subtly took a whiff of herself just to check.

"So with that out of the way, who's ready to have fun?" I asked before the group cheered.

And so we went exploring around Piltover with my brief yet painful migraine all but forgotten. I listened for a bit more this time around, trying to hear that same shriek but I couldn't. Thoughts about it were soon forgotten as the wonders of Progress day soon took over my thoughts.

Progress day wasn't all about showcasing one's fancy new inventions, there were also floats and parades. There were also various food vendors and game stalls. Progress day was the complete package, a mini world fare all on its own.

"Cotton Candy! Get your cotton Candy! Get a taste of the latest trend in sweets from Zaun!" Called out one of the vendors as we passed by some of them.

"Want one Jinx?" I asked as our group passed by the stand which was inundated with kids.

"Blech! Way too sweet." Jinx replied as she stuck out her tongue in disgust.

"Ice cream cones! Now served in Waffle cones!" Called out another vendor. This caught the eye of Seraphine as she looked at the stand dreamily. Turning to the stand, I saw just why she wanted one. The large image of a plain banana split ice cream was truly a tantalizing prospect. The price though was outrageous. They could buy a half a dozen ice creams from the price alone.

"Ark… can you treat us to some ice cream. Please? For me? For Seraphine~?" Asked Jinx as she turned around with Seraphine bringing out her puppy eyes. Both of them stared at me expectantly, their big doe eyes begging for me to give up my riches and I, unfortunately, relented.

"Don't worry about the price. Today's my treat. No seriously, go nuts." I was going to regret ever saying those words as the girls looked at me with dangerous glints in their eyes but the adorable squeal that Seraphine made was all too much to resist. The girl had weapon grade cuteness and Jinx taught her how to use it.

"I can already hear your purse crying in pain." Vi teased as she slung her arms around my shoulder while we watched the girls all get their banana splits.

"I might have to bury him after this day cause he's going to bleed out." I replied as I led both of us to the both to get our own ice cream. I just bought myself a Cinnamon roll from a nearby stand and had the vendor place the ice cream in my makeshift sandwich.

With food in hand, and plenty of time before the lecture, our group then decided to try out some of the games. There was some conflict as Vi and Cindy both agreed that they wanted to try the high striker game while Jinx wanted the games that required accuracy. Seraphine meanwhile wanted some casual games.

"Ok Jinx, we'd be wasting our time arguing. Why not go with Seraphine's suggestion on the Ionian goldfish game?" Cindy suggested as she gestured at the stand manned by a masked girl who looked rather shifty as she glanced around and tapped her impatiently on the ground. She did have an interesting game where the pool usually containing live goldfish were replaced with some form of Hextech ones which didn't feel hextech. Ionian blend of hextech perhaps?

Jinx however wasn't paying attention as she looked over at the commotion happening over at one of the shoot 'em up games.

"Mommy Daddy! I want the cuddly wugsy bear!" shouted the young girl sandwiched between the couple who failed to shoot the target. The girl was close to tears as she wanted it badly but it seemed like the couple was out of money.

I glanced over to Cindy and the others who noticed it as well. I gestured over at the stand as Jinx marched over to the stand.

"Claggor! Mylo! My dudes! Just the people I wanted to see~!" Shouted Jinx as they found a familiar face among the carnies manning the game stands. The two of them were manning the shoot 'em up game stand, the type of which Jinx absolutely loved to test her skills at.

"Oh hell no! You know you're banned from ever playing in our games." Shouted the wiry teen as he tossed the toy guns they had to Claggor so Jinx couldn't reach it. Claggor was far too big and heavy for Jinx to out muscle.

"Oh come on, it was one time! Aren't we friends~?" Jinx asked as she gave them her winning smile but the deadpan look Mylo gave her told them that they weren't going to be moved.

"No." Mylo replied as Jinx pouted.

"It's not like I wanted to win the prize for myself, I was going to win it for that girl." Jinx replied as she gestured at the young girl with a downcast expression who turned at hearing what Jinx said.

The hopeful look of the girl was absolutely heart rending. "How about this? You and Claggor block me while I shoot AND the machines are cranked up to max?" She said as she leaned against the booth.

"You two will have first dibs on selling one of my products" I added which caused Mylo to bite his thumb.

"We get the product win or lose" Claggor then demanded.

"As if I'd ever lose." Jinx replied as she held out her hands for a handshake.

"Deal." Mylo replied as she shook on it. Claggor gave Jinx the gun soon after as the booth was readied.

"Gather round, gather all! On this day we get to witness a rare occasion. The best markswoman from Zaun tries her luck against the hardest game this side of Piltover! Will she miss, come and watch to find out!" Claggor shouted as the two quickly capitalized on it. They were winning but a little extra wouldn't hurt.

"Hah! As if." Jinx replied as she held the gun with both hands and aimed. "Now let's dance!"

As their little game started, the sound started ringing once again. It came slowly at first, enough for me to ignore. Seraphine noticed it as well as she glanced towards me with a questioning look.

"Hearing it too?" I asked as the ear grating sound came back with a vengeance.

"Hear what?" Vi asked in concern as Seraphine started to look a little bit green around the gills. I probably was as well as Vi grabbed me as I staggered around. Cindy helped Seraphine out as the girl looked close to puking.

"Something feels wrong. They're screaming." Seraphine whispered as she covered her mouth as she rushed to the nearest waste bucket and heaved.

"What screaming, wait you mean?" Vi asked as I nodded. Something was seriously wrong right now and we could literally feel it. My vision was spinning as the pain reached a crescendo. Everything felt like things were going to go upside down. Then I saw something that momentarily made the pain feel not so excruciating.

There standing beside the shifty looking goldfish game stand operator was a masked individual who might just be the worst person to meet in this world. The Golden Demon stood there talking with the stand owner before handing them a package. I could feel something wrong with that package as my vision wavered around the object.

The man seemed to notice my look as I saw him smile through his eyes before slipping away without much of a sound. The stand owner quickly stood up and left, leaving the stand unattended. As they left with the package, the sound quickly faded away leaving only silence.

"Ark! Talk to me!" Vi shouted as I turned my focus back on her. I looked around frantically, trying to find the two Ionians but couldn't anymore with the sea of people walking about it. I silently cursed as a worst case scenario was currently happening and it completely blind sided me.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Is Seraphine ok?" I asked. The girl was the only other person he knew that could hear the Hex Crystals, maybe even more attuned with how she can hear the very music in people's hearts.

"Yeah, she's fine but what the hell was that? I know you react badly around Hextech but not like this." Vi said as she rubbed my back.

Seraphine had recovered and was being attended to by Cindy. My eyes then shifted to Jinx was currently handing over the teddy bear to the girl before running towards us.

"Did it happen again?! Fuck, I should have noticed." Jinx asked as she rushed towards me and checked my vitals.

I pushed her hands away from my face as I replied "I'm fine, ok, but things aren't going to be if we don't find two people right now."

"Two people? Ark, you're not making any sense right now. Also what do you mean this isn't the first time? Why didn't you two go back home! You know what the Doctor ordered!" Vi asked in worry.

"I'm sorry but this is really important ok. Trust me." I replied as I stared into Vi's eyes. She grimaced as she nodded as she finally calmed down enough to listen. I gestured for the girls to gather because of what I was going to say.

Getting all in a huddle, I quickly dropped the bomb on them "Ok, don't panic but a mass murderer's on the lose and he has sights on someone in this area."

There was some silence between all of them before Cindy replied "You really didn't pull any punches on this one, huh?"

"So, who's the guy or gal? Not Shadow Isle stuff is it?" Vi asked as she quickly recovered from the momentary shock of the information.

"I believe that Jhin the Virtuoso is in town. Either it's the real deal or a copycat, either would be bad." I answered to which Cindy and Seraphine gave us questioning looks.

"So Creepy Mask guy?" Jinx then said.

"What Jinx said. He's an Ionian mass murderer known for mutilating his victims for art." I added. This made Seraphine a bit green.

"I'm sorry I dragged you two into this but whatever this guys plan is, it's bad news. We need all the people we can get if we need to take this guy out" I apologized as I asked for their help. Jhin was one slimy son of a bitch if it took the Ionian ninja's to track him down.

"So, what's the plan?" Vi then asked.

"We get more people involved. We need to ask the Wardens.'' I said as the group nodded. The Wardens were always a force people could look up to if they're on the right side of the law. Hopefully Chief Marcus is in a listening mood today."
