People are idiots and or some misguided attempt at character "depth" are my guesses.

and that's the same reason we put both of them at 5 I guess? Not sure why people are trying to make Sakura weaker when we have Naruto and Sasuke in our age group, but okay then that seems rather pointless and suicidal. still an interesting quest concept though.

The more that they hinder us, the better rewards that we get for persevering. Thus, taking 5 because it's funny, because character depth, because we'll get the highest rewards every time it comes up.
Plus, we can still do things like water walk across lakes. We just can't water walk across rivers.

why not put 5 into water is acid? We're supposed to dodge water jutsu anyways, and that way we could water-walk over rivers

To my understanding, it's possible to use willpower to chip away at our afflictions, the same way that we can do so to enforce our bonds. @Lexica can confirm or deny. Either way, it's honestly not that big of a deal.
We haven't even become a ninja yet, water walking is waaaaay in the future. Plus, water is would have put a very different, unwelcome spin on the last update considering it was raining.

Willpower cannot break through an Affliction, no. A Bond of at least equal strength can however, as well as a few things Sakura will get... Soonish.
That said, I wouldn't worry about it too much either way. If the Afflictions get in your way enough to trigger their reward even once, you'll be very happy about it.

That's very nice to hear about, though admittedly, most of these won't show up in combat they look to be very QoL related, and the last means we'll never be infiltrators.

There are really two states with Afflictions. They're either a minor inconvenience that mostly adds flavor, or they're a huge problem for you that is also an immense power source.
If they cause you significant "QoL" problems, you will be very happy about it in combat, and if they cause you problems in combat, you will probably soon cease having problems.

Given that one of the issues was triggered by mere streams of water in the road from rain, my oh my is that water one going to come up a LOT.
And when people inevitably figure it out, water jutsu users are going to be a pain in the everything. Sakura would hate Kisame for so many reasons.
I don't understand why anyone thought that a ninja not being able to enter building without explicit invitation was ever a good idea though. I read the discussions and it still seems really dumb.

On the other hand if we (or our team) can learn water jutsus that would solve a lot of our problems with water.
Since I just found this quest I can't comment on the original thoughts behind it, but destroying a building or just getting our teammates to invite us in should solve a lot of our problems with that affliction.

You do not seem to understand the mechanics of the quest. Having an affliction hinder us is a good thing, in that there are bonuses to be had when this happens.

Lakes and oceans do flow, such as how lakes drain.
If she can walk across a dammed reservoir, which has the outflow current very obvious under the surface...
All Sakura would have to do with this definition is to strap two bottles of water to her feet whenever she needs to cross running water, because the closer water obviously takes priority.
