After colliding with the obstruction thrice in succession, a pair of irked Crabs decide to scrutinize the troublesome secondary reactor. Their aim is to extract its information, hoping to integrate it into the Crab network and eliminate its hindrance. Delving into the reactor's information panel raises more questions about its nature. Details such as type, name, and origin seem either intentionally erased or never recorded. What's more disconcerting is the absence, not just emptiness, of information regarding the fuel status. Surprisingly, the channels for the fuel status aren't configured at all, making it impossible to estimate its remaining operational time. This poses a terrifying dilemma as the reactor is the sole lifeline of the network.
Further investigation reveals a significant deletion of data, leaving behind only default infrastructure and information. However, amidst the deletion, a single file emerges from the depths of the directory, cryptically labeled "reactor emergency protocol." These protocols are mandatory for equipment rated medium risk or higher, and deletion is typically not permitted. Unfortunately, the elusive data destroyer seems to have circumvented this safeguard. The file contains only two sentences:
"A deep Scrub is a deep Scrub. We aren't cleaning up some Memobanks here."
Despite the anomalous date and placement of the reactor, its installation is remarkably well-executed. Seamlessly integrated into all systems of the Radiant Dawn and securely welded into the structure, a less discerning observer might overlook its incongruity. Upon thorough measurement and integration into the network, incidents involving the reactor rapidly diminish to zero.
Eight crabs have joined forces to undertake the diverse tasks necessary to restart the primary reactor.
One crab, recognizing the need for precious metal in the repair process, dedicates its efforts to completing the dismantling of old electronics, yielding 2 units of precious metal.
1x Damaged Electronics has been salvaged for 2x Precious Metal
In parallel, three crabs take on the challenge of repairing the abandoned secondary fuel cell within the Radiant Dawn. By replacing damaged connections with scavenged materials, they succeed in restoring the cell to a functional state, albeit not a safe one. Unfortunately, lacking access to high-quality materials and a dedicated manufactorum makes it impossible to bring it back to peak functionality. Tests reveal significantly reduced output, a lifespan cut by more than half, and substantial leakage, necessitating full protective equipment for all biological personnel.
1x Precious Metal has been expended to to repair the Secondary Fuel Cell
Simultaneously, four crabs delve into the damaged primary reactor, a casualty of the violent removal of its fuel sources. Comprehensive repairs to the entire reactor demand substantial resources not currently available, as well as additional Crabpower. Nevertheless, by utilising one unit of precious metal and disconnecting most other fuel ports from the network, they make notable progress. With further resources and effort, they will be able to restore one secondary fuel port to working order.
1x Precious Metal has been expanded to repair the Main Reactor. 1 additional unit of Precious Metal and 1 Crab finishing the work is required to repair the Secondary Fuel Port
With the buried nature of the Radiant Dawn a large digging team has formed with the aim of excavating its interior. 6 Crabs journey to the already started dig site, with an additional one waking itself from recharging just in time to contribute too and the team quickly went to work expanding and deepening the prior work done.
[5/5]
Quickly learning techniques from the digging pioneer, the team easily surpassed the efforts of the single crab excavating an entire segment and finding a great treasure: The Container for an emergency Plasma Torch. Intended to allow the crew to cut through thinner walls in case of emergency, the current situation clearly calls for its use. Opening the container, the crew surprisingly finds that even its interior is filled with dirt, but after removing it and quickly testing the torch they rejoice to find that it is still functional and can be used for its intended purpose, as long as its batteries last of course.
Stored 1x Plasma Cutter [50/50 Charge]
Plasma Cutter: Can Slowly cut through thin metal and other materials with varying levels of effectivnes. Consumes 5 Charge through Light Use and 20 Charge through Heavy Use. Will restore up to 15 Charge by consuming electricity each turn .
Light Use: Tool is used for a small part of a task and multiple Crabs can use it at the same time as a result, example: cut down a tree with the axe and burn it into charcoal (Axe is used once to cut down one tree for another project)
Heavy Use: Tool is heavily used for the entire task and no other crab can use it at the same time because of that, example: Collect wood by cutting down Trees with axe (Axe is used all the time to cut down many trees to collect wood)
[10/10]
Digging further, the team starts falling into a steady rythm, working as a team to delve deeper into the ship. Splitting up the work, half of the team works to bring dirt from the digsite to the outside, slowly building up a small hill near the entrance, while the other half continues to remove material. With this productive cycle they quickly make significant progress, reaching a crossroad in the tunnel.
To the left is a storage compartment, which is known to definitly house additional Crabs, but there are likely other resources in the room too, should it be excavated.
To the right is the control room for the Sensor arrays at the top of the wing. While it is unlikely that they can be brought into use with the currently lacking power supply, there may be valuable information to be found through gaining access to its data banks.
The pathway additionaly continues to go further into the Radiant Dawn, going deeper and closer to the main body of the ship.
New available Segments:
Sensor Control Room [1/15]
Storage Room [0/20]
Continue Deeper [0/10]
With the discovery of the Plasma Cutter the Crabs investigating the possibility to make tools find themselves propelled greatly forward. Making the Tools to make the Tools is a laborious process and skipping forward is greatly appreciated.
Still, trying to craft tools is not an easy thing and the 4 crabs trying to fulfil the task have varied successes.
(81) One Crab attempts to experiment with the scrap to craft a gadget. Initially their efforts seem to bear no fruit, until the Plasma torch is found, allowing them to cut out some of the scavenged metal plates and somehow wrangle it to create a rudimentary Coping Saw. How they achieved such a feat and why such a tool is required is a mystery, though it is clearly impressive.
Used 1x Metal and a Light Use of the Plasma Torch to craft 1x Rudimentary Coping Saw (20 Durability, use for woodworking)
(16) Another Crab is more focused. Using some of the metal, they attempt to craft excavation equipment to help in the task of digging into the Radiant Dawn. Unfortunatly, while simply using the large plate to dig out the dirt is an easy solution, attempting to improve the tool finds no success. Multiple Hilts break when trying to use them for the first time, while attempting to create a grip in the plate only creates a garish cut. Creating more advanced Excavation Equipment would certainly be possible and at least these attempts have been a learning opportunity, but at the moment simply using the plate by itself will have to suffice...
Used 1x Metal and 1x Wood to craft 1x Excavation plate (may be Heavy used to add 0,5 to Dig progress or used as 1 Metal resource for a project), Excavation Plate recipe gained
Finally, two Crabs attempt to create Axes to make wood collecting easier, trying with two different approaches.
(17) The first attempt consists of searching for a suitably sharp rock to bind to a stick. Unfortunately, finding a rock that is suitably sharp turns out to be a bigger challenge than expected and without a suitable binding material or enough time to find another way assembling the axe was not successful
Stored 1x Sharp stone, suitable as part of an axe
(72) The second attempt is more successful. Using the newly discovered Plasma Torch, a Crab plans out and cuts the shape of an axe out of some of the salvaged metal. The resulting tool is ugly, misshapen and blunt, but with light effort using the plasma torch it will serve to open up entire new avenues of collecting wood.
Used 2x Metal and a Light Use of the Plasma Torch to craft 1 Crude Adamant Axe(0/10 Sharpness, Cannot lose durability), Crude Axe recipe gained
Crude Adamant Axe: Light Use: -1 Sharpness, Heavy Use: -3 Sharpness, Sharpen Action: +7 Sharpness
With the already scavenged resources already starting to dry out, 3 Crabs venture out to find more scrap for use.
(49) Not all remnants consist of large, continues plates.. Strewn around on the ground there are various pieces of metal, former structural elements and connecting pieces, which can be collected and stored for further use. With resources running out their collection is a welcome addition to the dwindling supply.
Stored 2x Metal
(10) Unfortunately, while the team initially expected to be able to start with additional salvage, the lack of a clear storage area has led to significant confusion. The pieces had been brought to two different corridors in the Radiant Dawn and one of then turned out to be important to bring out the dirt from the excavation, forcing the team to spend additional time moving the already salvaged resources around.
The mystery of the natives intrigues two Crabs, causing them to further investigate their actions and lost items.
[5/5]
Searching for further traces, they discover scratches on one of the maintenance doors leading into the Radiant Dawn, located only a bit over ground level. It is the main points of passage for most Crabs, but was never noticed as the traces are only very faint. The primitive weapons and tools of the weapons stand to chance even against thin Starship-Grade Armour and the scratches only penetrated the protective coating above the hull.
Tracing back the steps of the natives, it seems like they tried to gain access through the maintenance hatch, failed miserably and tried another way as a result, destroying one of the sensor arrays and infiltrating through the opened hole, stealing the reactor fuel and escaping with most of their loot.
An analysis of the primitive artifacts reveal the low quality materials, being simple iron beaten into shape, with the coins being made of copper. Looking past the wear and rust of the weapons, it is discovered that most of them are actually crude spearheads, simply lacking the shaft that would give them their range. The only exception is an axe, which is not only of significantly higher quality, but also sports a still intact metal shaft. With some repairs it may be of use in collecting wood or serving as an example to imitate.
A closer look past the damage reveals that the items are thin plates of iron, engraved with an unknown script. While it is heavily degraded, the letters are not known in any of the libraries currently accessible, though these libraries are pitifully small.
3x Primitive Weapons are: 2x Crude Iron Spearhead(1/10 Durability), 1x Iron Axe (0/10 Sharpness, (5/25 Durability)
13x Primitive Coins are: 13x Copper Coins
4x Primitive Items are: 4x Engraved Iron Plates
Crude Iron Axe: Light Use: -2 Sharpness, Heavy Use: -5 Sharpness-1 Durability, Sharpen Action: +7 Sharpness-1Durability
With a gaping hole in the Radiant Dawn, one Crab decides to fix the glaring security flaw.
Erecting a wooden barricade and filling it with earth excavated from within the Radiant Dawn, the open hole is closed, forcing any intruders to spend significant effort to enter the ship. While it is not as secure as the nearly impenetrable armour, the ruckus caused by any break in attempt will alert the entire ship and allow the crabs to institute countermeasures against them.
Radiant Dawn barricaded
In anticipation of escalating traffic around the Radiant Dawn Crash Site, a diligent crab takes the initiative to clear the most heavily traversed trails. This involves the removal of low-hanging branches, debris, and other obstructions. The conscientious effort not only enhances the accessibility of the pathways but also results in the collection of useful wood. Already, multiple Crabs have found their work to be a bit easier, especially the explorers who know that they will be soon home once the forest becomes easier to navigate.
Small trails around the Radiant Dawn established, 1xWood stored
