Yuthura shifts her footing slightly as you approach. The darting of her pale violet eyes betrays a moment of discomfort... and then she focuses clearly back onto you. When you stop just before her only then does she bow, bending forward at the waist, not deep enough to be a full genuflection, but far enough that the respect is clear.
"I am pleased to welcome your first official return to Korriban, Lord Revan. Your Academy grows by the day, and your students--"
"Please, Yuthura, surely you've heard the rumors explaining why I'm here. Let's dispense with pleasantries."
"Ah," the command actually seems to put her at ease more than unnerve her. She straightens up fully into a relaxed stance. "Very well then, my Lord, let's walk to the Academy."
She turns around and waits for you to take the first steps, coming to walk just a step behind you and to your right, both of you trailed by the small column of Sith and Sith-to-be that dares not speak a word.
"Word of an assassination attempt on Coruscant
has spread..." she shrugs and speaks in a slight whisper, enough that you can be sure of at least a little privacy against the students and teachers behind you. "But this is the homeworld of the Sith, a planet with a loyal Academy and a few dig sites. Surely we are not suspected."
"The loyalty of this Academy is the question I'm here to assess." You speak aloofly, not bothering to turn your head as you scan the narrowing canyon trail ahead. "The assassins had some talent at concealing themselves in the Force, and they used
this."
You reach under your cloak and produce the archaic Sith lightsaber, holding it close and in front of you so only Yuthura can see it.
"This is a Sith weapon," you state coldly. "And not one preferred by our warriors in combat, given the age and outdated elements. The fleet analyzed it and confirmed the age, and that means it could only come from Korriban, from the dig sites... and this Academy's habit of giving such lightsabers to ascending students."
"I see, so you think your assassins were students of this Academy... or agents of one."
"Or a teacher."
There's a brief pause as she considers what you just said. You scan along the walls of the thin canyon around you and find them just as quiet.
"My loyalty is unquestionable, Lord Revan."
"Yes, I suppose Uthar heard the same thing. The nature of the Empire I lead makes caution a necessity."
You reach the doors to the Academy, and with a slight application of the Force open them without any need to pause as you walk forward into the vestibule. The cavernous, hewn stone of the Sith Academy beckons you in, on the one hand more like a tomb than anything amenable to life, but also too familiar from your brief stint staying there as a student to be entirely strange. From that entrance the floor slopes rapidly up, and you reach the Grand Hall of the Academy once more: a bare, circular room of the same rough stone, lit only by dust-filled rays of light drifting from the central skylight. As you and Yuthura move into the center of the room they tense and begin to line into rows, as if expecting something.
"You are all dismissed, return to your training for the day." You wave your hand at them to make your disinterest clear, and the crowd quietly scatters, like dust in a gust of wind. Many still eye you as they mill about the room to the various attached hallways and passages, but they keep their distance from you and Yuthura.
"I didn't come her to give speeches before students, I came to track down a conspiracy. And so I ask more openly, Yuthura: what do you know?"
"Lord Revan, I speak completely honestly when I say that I know nothing of any such plots against you. " Yuthura stands tall and poised even as you turn and approach closer to her, expressionless mask looking right into her eyes, but you sense the slightest physical tension in her body. What was that? "Our staff are chosen for their loyalty to the Sith as an ideal, not the order's own politics, and by all my own observations every single day the students are too caught up in their own plots and schemes against each other to concern themselves with the wider Galaxy just yet."
"That is exceedingly unhelpful, Yuthura." You make no moves of direct threat, but cross your arms and take another step closer. "Remember that you reached your position with my help in your own bout of treachery, and before that you were already second only to Uthar in influence on this academy. Surely you have suspicions."
"All I can offer, Master, are suggestions of where to look. Dreshdae, for example, can be more than it seems, and if anyone or anything left the Academy it would be from their spaceport; you landing directly in the Valley of the Dark Lords is unique, and to be honest our archaeologists aren't happy about it at all. There's also the interrogation rooms, since we handle any caught lawbreakers on the planet ourselves as training materials. And of course there's the Valley of the Dark Lords itself; the guards obviously ultimately serve you and can let you into the Tomb of Naga Sadow where we do initiation ceremonies and give those ancient lightsabers, and all other tombs are completely unrestricted even to the students... And the students, I might add, aren't entirely worth disregarding. You say you did not come here to intervene in their training, but with the awe you're held in that could be a valuable chance to gain information, could it not?"
Not the certainty you hoped for, but it was a start. "Very well, Yuthura. I will have to investigate this myself, it seems. You seem to keep your students in decent discipline, and if my presence discomforts you so, I will leave you to that work."
There is a heavy breath behind you as you turn away from her, causing you to spot Yuthura mid-reach out towards your shoulder.
"Revan--my Lord--if I seem uncomfortable in your presence it is only because... well, I suppose there are personal questions left over from before. I admit that I... revealed perhaps more of myself than I would have if I knew I was speaking it to a returning Dark Lord of the Sith. I would... like to finish certain conversations and have certainty, but I fully admit that it is not relevant to your goals and plans."
She coughs and seems to catch something in her throat. You can't tell if that's fear or genuine upset. "I'm sorry, Lord Revan, I will return to the headmaster's quarters to work, as you said."
She turns on a heel and strides away, down the hall to the living quarters, leaving you pondering a next move.
