I was really more thinking about seeing the light shows from a bunch of antimatter bombs and stuff going off during battles, rather than like detecting cities on alien planets directly. Maybe picking up radio broadcasts of propaganda, that kind of thing.

Even if we could pick up stuff so small and scattered it would take multiple light years to get here.

So if like the whole galaxy is at war and we're near the front lines howcome the human institution of "Astronomy" didn't already know about that. Seems like something you might notice with a big telescope.

Space is huge. Really huge. Our best tech takes days to detect such things from our own solar system and we do not know the distance in light years these conflicts are happening.

Transmissuon/signal wise they could be using signal stuff our own may not detect or no idea what it is. ( Seriously to broad cast in outer space for fleet management and news in real time, dealing with crazy rhetorical physics.

Why the original Master of Orion was so awesome in realism in your ships in Faster than light mode on a mission? Need proper tech or they do their mission. Including bombing a guy you just made peace with.
