Flashback: Beacon Hallway
I feel my eyes mildly cross, and desperately wish that everyone and their dog (corgi, actually) who seemed to know who I was would kindly refrain. Somehow, I was caught up in this mess of a situation, with literally no idea what was going on.
Lovely
Unfortunately, dry-heaving was far less likely to work here, given that some of the people here seemed not to be squeamish students, so the best choice was, of course, to roll with the story so conveniently provided for me. "Displaced foreign souls" indeed, hardly. If Men's Grey here wasn't one himself, or aware of why, I'd eat my shiny stilettos. Watching everyone you know be consumed by otherworldly beings sounded like a fantastic setup for lasting trauma, and perhaps severe paranoia.
I gently raise a shaking hand, and wave a gentle hello, allowing my other hand to come up and conceal my mouth, also conveniently obscuring my cramping smile.
Really, what am I to do here? I have no idea what's going on, but the other "travellers" seem to be far more comfortable than myself, if indeed the man beside me is to be trusted. Likely, they are some sort of group, and I was pulled along for the ride, so to speak. My how irresponsible, truly, magic really was at an all time low if standards like these were what passed for "acceptable". Wizards these days, no manners or skill at all, can't even perform transdimensional soul transfers without getting bystanders involved. It was no wonder magic is thought to be dead, the users were likely all hiding in shame of their lack of ability. Really, what would Newton say?
"Pass the drugs" perhaps, so that's a line of thought better left untouched.
I hang my head, and let my weariness show. Corner of the eyes, that's the ticket. Few more wrinkles than a lady of my age should really show, yeah, that'll send up warning signs like no other. Future spouse of this lady, I do apologize for the extra 10 minutes it'll take this body to cover them up with makeup, it's surely for a good cause.
Well. It's for my cause, which is a good one by definition.
I loll my head by my (massive) chest, and allow words to wash over me. Now, now, let's see what you have to say...
"Woof!" I yip cheerfully at the downcast looking teacher, leaping out of Taiyang's arms and stopping in front of her, rolling on my back and revealing my stomach to the air.
Ibegpolitely whine for scritches.
I glance at Zwei rolling about on the ground, unsure even how he managed to undo the straps. The dog was cleverer than he looked....which wasn't that difficult all things considered, his tongue rolled out of his mouth.
"I'd like to thank you again for the job Ozpin. I know how disruptive it must be, but all things considered, i'd prefer to be able to keep an eye on the girls if they are deciding to go after criminals in their spare time."
Ozpin notices the new professor and his canine companion and notes that they arrived quite quickly. He nods in greeting. The slightest hint of a smile could be seen on his face.
"Long time no see, Tai, and you're welcome. I understand your concerns, and it's not really a disruption. The students here will benefit from your experience."
I sigh.
My friend would never forgive me for not giving a dog attention. Fucking vets, but I couldn't blame him, so far as he kept his Mastiff far and away from my feet.
I bend over and scratch it gently, mildly hoping the trailing hair doesn't start making me sneeze
I eye the man standing up beside me, and stay quiet, allowing conversation to wash over me
Well Goodwitch was acting far quieter than i had expected.
Must have been a really long day.
Regardless, i had work to do.
"Would you like to give me the infomation on my classes now, or would you prefer i leave you two be and you can just send it to my scroll later? I'm sure i'll find my room eventually."
Getting pats from the serious woman was easier than I thought it'd be...
Trying my luck, I roll once to my right, stopping in front of Ozpin, belly-side up.
C'mom Ozzie, you know you want to.
"I'll send you the information."
A couple of taps on Ozpin's scroll, and what Taiyang needs to know regarding his classes are sent to his scroll. Ozpin compiled all that while accompanying Glynda.
The headmaster keeps his scroll, then opts to hold the corgi gently and give him some scritches.
After my rubs I trot happily back to Taiyang's side. I look up at my owner and yip, ready to follow him anywhere.
That's two of the more challenging scritches off my list. Let's see if we can find anyone else before bed.
Seeing the conversation mostly resolved, the colorful woman stepped out and offered the corgi some scratches as she looked up to Ozpin, the crouching 6-foot-woman offering a hopeful smile to the Headmaster.
And now we have random students popping out from the shadows. Just brilliant.
Stifling the urge to girlishly scream at the sudden appearance of the youngster, i halted midstep, watching as she pampered my dog.
"Can we help you....Miss....?"
Miss 'Smells like Ice cream' scratches me it a place I just can't reach on my face, and I thank her by licking her hand.
Do they teach students how to properly scratch animals? Cause that's a class I'd love to partake in.
Like, sign me up as a teacher please.
Feeling the positive response from the pup, the colorful girl gave him a suggestive yet friendly smile as she gestured down with wiggly fingers as if offering a belly rub later before she rose.Fist moving to her face, she coughed harshly and spoke softly in a timbre akin to 'Lisa Lisa':
"Ringo Pekan, sir. There seems to be a problem with my transfer here to Beacon that I was hoping to discuss with the Headmaster, if he had the time...?"
Well,Zwei liked her and he was usually an excellent judge of character, except when it came to his insatiable craving for belly rubs.
Still, she seemed familiar despite being unable to remember her name. Still, even if she was just a random background character, it was at least better than having all those shadow people from Volume 1 wandering about.
"Please, go ahead. I'm sure that myself and the Headmaster have wrapped up anything that needs to be organised?"
"Is there something I can help you with, Miss Pekan?", the headmaster asks.
"Among other things that I think I'll hold off on until we have a moment alone, from what I understand my paperwork to enroll was lost in transit. Where I'm from access to the tower is limited, to say the least..."
From her expressions, these 'other things' made her rather nervous — so much so that she glanced forlornly down at Zwei as if longing to pet him further.
Zwei wiggles his legs in the air, completely fine with more pats.
The temptation was clearly powerful— as if providing luxury to such companions was something she were well versed in — and 'Ringo' quickly caved into carrying the corgi whilst simultaneously offering pats with expert prowess, still patiently awaiting responses from Ozpin. The comforted and comforting presence of Zwei seemed to calm her nerves at the educator and Headmistress listening in to a degree that surprised herself for the briefest of instants.
"Would you like to accompany us? Glynda just needs to visit the nurse, and we can settle your paperwork at my office afterwards."
With that settled, i decided it was time to see my room. Saying my farewells to my new colleagues, i silently beckoned Zwei to follow.
Seeing Tai beckoning, the colorful woman gives the beholden corgi a particularly loving scratch at the cheekbones and with a wink gives the dog a launching start at the ground.
