Remnants of Arda: Dunedain in a Foreign Land

Hmm...curious...why do we assumr spending time with th people will end any differently than it did with our kin?

They respect action. Words will do little imo

True, true. Especially since it seems like this guy sucks at the social side of things. (Though, I guess he can't be altogether terrible at it if he has been able to retain leadership thus far.)

Maybe we could wait on most of the social actions till people have comfortable housing, and when Alagostor himself is in a better mood too.

Edit:
[x] Plan Orisha91

Includes the actions I was considering, and edits can be made as any new points are brought up. :)

Kingdom Actions: Kingdom actions are actions done on a large scale, involving much resource and manpower usage. This includes construction, troop movements, raising military units and so forth.

[X] Begin building ships or rafts for the river from when the dwarves are able to begin logging.
[X] Send the rangers and dwarves out scouting to find and exploit resources in the area. Tell them to observe and map what they come across too.

Major Actions: Major actions are personal actions that take up a large amount of time. These include performing research on something, studying a subject, learning something, spending time with another character or applying skills to enhance a Kingdom action. You can currently take 3 Major actions.

[X] Discuss and plan with the relevant parties on how food and shelter can be secured most efficiently, with an emphasis on farming in regards to the food situation.
[X] Discuss and plan with the relevant parties on how deter, halt, and reverse slipping public order.
[X] Send the rangers and dwarves out scouting to find and exploit resources in the area. Tell them to observe and map what they come across too.

Minor Actions: Minor actions are personal actions that would require comparatively little time, and so can be done in far greater numbers than Major actions

[X] Approach the most influential group among the hobbits and ask if them could boost the mood of the camps.
[X] Ask someone to determine your location according to stars.
[X] Set a standard for camp hygiene and make sure others see you apply it.
[X] Walking around camp enough to appear approachable and downplay rumors about yourself.

How's this?

I added the constellation review so as to use it as a possible defense of our decision to flee.
The other stuff is present to arrest the sorry state of what we're ruling over.

Oh, and I have a scout option.
Hopefully we get a map.

[X] Build Basic Roads through the current Kingdom. It would improve travel between the small villages at the moment.
[X] Build a Huge Common Ore Mine. We need the metal for building purposes.

[] Have soldiers provide or assist in getting food and shelter.
[] Have soldiers present to deter, halt, and reverse slipping public order.
[] Send the rangers out scouting the immediate area for necessities. Tell them to observe and map what they come across.

Working on a hexograph map right now. Should have it out by tonight.

Also, you need to find a ore deposit or vein before you can build a mine. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that front.

@Orisha91 I like it for the most part, but am curious about the roads. I'll agree they are needed, but is there anything else that should be a priority just starting out?

Playing Civilization and other strategy games (plus history) I've always found the best starting point for a civilization is near a river (yay for us!) and focuses first upon developing their agriculture.

Thoughts?

Honestly I think it depends on how large our kingdom is at the moment and how spread out our people are that effects the priority of roads vs agriculture.

If our people are really spread out roads are a necessity right now just to make travel easier on them, which should help with setting up agriculture later.

If they are all close together I'd recommend a focus on agriculture initially.

How many Square Miles/Kilometers is each of those Hexagons?

EDIT: But sending out the rangers to map the area and find resources is definitely a necessity right now. I think we're gonna need to find those ore deposits if we want any serious development.

EDIT2: Might want to look into doing some logging. We can start with the forest/trees just a little ways up and across the river, we can have our guys tie the felled trees together and raft them down the river to the village, no need for roads unlike the forest further up the map.

EDIT3: How is our food status? I don't recall seeing anything about that in the update and a quick search/reread didn't find anything. We're right next to a river and near an ocean, we can rely on fishing for a little while before we get started on any serious agriculture if we have to.

A hexagon is about one mile from one side to the other. Give or take.

Alright thanks for answering that.

At only about one mile square mile I think we can hold off on roads for at least this update.

I'd recommend either getting a start on our agriculture or maybe the logging idea I mentioned earlier to get started on some resource gathering.

I don't think I ever got an answer about our food status?

EDIT: How viable is my logging idea with our current resources?

You have enough food to last three months, if you ration it. Some people have started fishing and hunting to supplement the food situation. The forests are thick with deer and rabbit, and the river is plentiful. If you set up farms now, you should be able to last easily till harvest.

Your logging idea would work fine. The dwarves brought the tools to do it.

Another question, how long are the turns, a day, a week, a month?

I've got get to sleep sometime soon but if voting is still open tomorrow I'll try and throw a plan together.

A turn is three months.

For turn updates, I usually keep the voting open a little longer. I'll probably close the vote around Monday or Tuesday.

Alright so we have three months of food if we ration and a turn is three months, but if we start farming the food will be ready by the time we start to need it.

A focus on agriculture is definitely essential this turn, have to make sure we've got a good amount of food.

But we can probably hold off on having the rangers map the area just yet.\

EDIT: And given the current size of the Kingdom we can hold of on roads until we start to expand.

Okay, so switch out the food security option to encouraging the populace to build farms.
And hold off on roads. in
So all you two in favor of logging, so that we can start building rafts to take advantage of the river?

Is that right?

I just changed the plan.

Sounds about right, encouraging farming is a must right now.

Roads can come later. Right now we seem to only be occupying an area of about a square mile, that's a pretty reasonable walking distance for a human and definitely manageable with horses.

Logging up river gives us quick access to some important resources we can use to improve the village and gives us wood to start building ships to allow us to fish further out into the oceans, and explore both the rest of the world beyond the ocean, as well as further up the river.

EDIT: The rafting portion of my original post was more that its a quick way to transport the logs down river to the village for other uses. You can just tie several logs together to float them down river and then separate the logs again to use for other purposes. It was more for quick resource gathering then exploration. This method is quicker then trying to move logs over land.

EDIT2: Alright now I really do have to get to sleep, but the plan as you have it now looks ok to me, using the rafts to start exploring or to help take advantage of fishing is an idea I haven't really thought of, which is what I think you're suggesting but I'm a little sleep deprived right now so I might be misunderstanding the post.

I just meant taking advantage of the river in general. (Fishing, traveling, transportation, exploring and whatever else we can think up)
