Reborn on the Moonless Seas

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that would be appreciated.

Diamond, to me sounded like it would allow an all direction defensive, just in case more abyssals showed from a different direction while still allowing reasonable adaptability.
So to keep things simple and on the current situation, there are essentially three formations we need to worry about. Line ahead is best for surface combat, being responsive and easily able to concentrate firepower. Circular formations, of which diamond would be a variant, offer the best all-around ASW and AAW coverage but are too spread out to be good for surface combat. Line abreast and variants is reserved for scouting or for screening along a known threat axis.

So basically, Line Ahead would be better for this than Diamond is what you're saying?

Depends on the Weather and other things. Right Now, Diamond works well, as does Line Ahead. Diamond because the DDs can screen better, and Line ahead to maximize FP for the incoming Abyssals.

Edit: Please do correct me if I'm wrong Hornet.

Please be aware that the next update will take some time. I'm not willing to give a date as of yet, but I can't start working on it until I finish the update for Shooting Star and At the Edge of Eternity.

Thank you everyone for your patience!

Different formations offer different benefits for specific threats. If you'd like, I can go over the basics for the benefit of refining the vote.

Thing is, we've got a Carrier. A line Ahead doesn't really account for ships that don't really have main guns. In a Battleship formation, that wouldn't be as bad (still questionable if you want to expose your entire broadside to the enemy). Fact is, because we don't know where the enemy will come from atm, I'd suggest a Diamond/Circular formation as that would put our heavy hitters and most importantly the Carrier in the middle. Allows us to respond to every side equally while having our heavy hitters basically able to support our DD's while the DD's do the screening. Or at least move in colums, but a line ahead seems awefully exposing to me.

Well Reasoned @Xela63
Unfortunately, I can't really give out more hints than I had. QM stuff and all that. That said, I will warn the players if you're utterly screwing yourself.

Aw, got here to late. But we should have had Suzaku launch a CAP and some recon planes to try and find any nearby abyssals.

Might also alert the Abyssals where the convoy is, though. Or that there's at least something interesting to be found in the area. That said, recon fly-bys are less of a "look right here" sign than a constant circling aerial presence.

Remember that Suzaku has Sauins. Or, C6Ns. You maybe should use them :)

Notice of a Extra Vote
Hello everyone. I've decided that, due to a personal error, I don't have enough information to construct the next post. Hence, a new vote will be taking place, though this does assume Anchorage and Do Not Split the Party. The vote will contain the following:

[]Formation
-[]Launch Scouts?
--[]Suzaku
--[]Lupa
--[]Both Launch Scouts

[] Protect Convoy over yourselves

[] Protect yourselves over the Convoy

[]Write in plans of any nature, including stuff I may have missed. Vote will last two days. One Hour Moratorium for Discussion.

So my idea would be, Convoy in the middle, BB at the front, Carrier as last and around that our DD screen, everyone ok with that? Launch a quarter of the scouts from Suzaku and one to two from Lupa, so the experienced scouts from Lupa can act as squadron leaders for the ones from Suzuka while teaching them what to look for. Sounds good?

Putting together a scratch force with flyers who haven't flown together is a bad idea, especially with battle imminent. This is the stuff that should be practiced during peacetime, or at least in the quiet intervals. Right now, I'd advise keeping the groups separate, although having Lupa's scouts pass on advice while they're still forming up before heading out is feasible.

EDIT: I am absolutely terrible at this task called making plans. Meaning that everything about this thing I'm posting below is open to revision.

[x] Plan Gotta Start Somewhere
-[x] Diamond Formation
--[x] Convoy, Carrier, Battleship in center
-[x]Launch Scouts?
--[x]Both Launch Scouts
-[x] Order Samidare to radiate and do radar sweeps
-[x] Protect Convoy over yourselves

I mean, the carrier is a civvy and her crew is utterly green. This isn't a team that is well adjusted to each other or that has flown together a lot. What we need right now is someone who can bark sensible orders at them with military discipline.

Also @Miho Chan do we get the speed for the recon planes of Lupa and Suzaku, because I assume they are different. Depending on the answer, my suggestion would make more or less sense.

This actually doesn't seem that bad for a quick plan and it leaves room for maneuvering for torpedoes. Plus with the full CAP we can tell where the enemy is at when they do start shooting.
