@Saturday
Before I make a plan, I have some questions.
1. Does our spear have reach, like glaives, pikes, halberds, etc, or do we need to buy something with reach?
2. If we buy a reach weapon (a pike, for example), can it be upgraded (does it count as a simple weapon?) and can we still use our spear sword arts with it?
3. With a reach weapon, can we attack over someone's shoulder? Like in a phalanx or DnD game, having a tank in front and us right behind them, stabbing whatever's in front of the tank?

Basically, I want to buy a pike or glaive (assuming our spear doesn't have reach), upgrade it so we aren't losing attack power, and have Kishi tank while we stand behind her and focus on damage. We can give her our shield and let her Dodge on every action, letting her prevent even more damage.
Would that work?

i have a question if we contact Argo will we tell her about the forewarning poem on the cave wall

Second thing @Saturday, 14/180 HP triggers learning the Battle Healing skill(which happens at 10% health and only really happens to people doing solo because who the hell goes to 10% on a death game?). Unfortunately its too slow to actually use in battle unless you're fighting some small fry, but it should save on our potion budget.
Do we get it?
The wiki says you gotta be level 10 to be able to unlock the battle healing skill.

Actually, as I was reminded earlier, we chose heavy armor, which has 0 bonus from DEX, no matter how high it is.
We still get the bonus on spear throw from DEX though!
Uh, IIRC Heavy armor was MaxDex 1 unless its the shittiest?
Sorry if I didn't specify but I'm going with DnD 5e rules, as thats the system that I've played with the most. In that heavy armor gets no bonus from Dex whatsoever.

1. Your spear has reach, its just that you haven't been able to make much use of it since you wree going solo/don't have much experience wielding a spear yet.
2. You could buy a pike, and you could use spear sword arts with it, but there would be a disadvantage imposed if an enemy is too close as something that long is nigh useless at closer range.
3. Yeah.

If you go see Argo you'lll basically give ge a play-by-play of the entire quest, and you have the shield plaque thing with the poem on it to show her you aren't lying.

Game Mechanics
Game Mechanics
More to be added as it becomes relevant.

Health (HP)
  • If this hits 0 it is game over, the quest ends. No redos. No second chances.
  • The formula to calculate it is: (CON Mod) * 5 * (Level) + (Level) * 20 + 30

Titles
  • Gained for accomplishing great feats or at important moments in the development of your character's psyche.
  • Can apply either bonuses or maluses to relevant rolls.
Status
  • Whether or not your character is afflicted by an ailment, for example [Burned] or [Frozen] or [Hungry] or etc.
  • Most ailments can usually be cured by some form of item, whether you have that item readily available or not is another question entirely.
Armor Class (AC)
  • When attacking the attacker must roll a number higher than the opponents AC in order to hit them.
  • Calculated by the equipment you are currently wearing, as well as relevant various bonuses from Skills and Titles.

Legendary Difficulty
  • Chosen at the beginning of the quest, this means that the journey through SAO will be much harder (and the monsters much stronger) than in the original.
  • Basically translates to monsters having a +3 or +4 bonus to attack at all times, as well as being generally buffed
  • It also means that while Aincrad is not specifically trying to kill anyone, it won't care if it does. Do not trust everything that the game tells you as the truth.

Monster Name Colors
  • You are able to see how strong a monster is relative to you based on the color of its nametag.
  • <WHITE> - Below your level, you can kill it with ease.
  • <PINK> - Equal to your level, you can take on a couple of these.
  • <RED> - A little above your level, will make you work for it.
  • <PURPLE> - Really above your level, a high chance of death.
  • <BLACK> - Run. Hide. Pray. Die.

Upgrades
  • Most equipment can be upgraded in some fashion, requiring a mix of money and materials.
  • Rare equipment will (almost always) have a higher upgrade cap than a common version of the same equipment.
  • The more money spent and the higher the quality of the materials, the greater the likelihood of success (up to a max of a 90% chance of success).

Sword Skills/Arts
  • One of the best ways to do damage in Sword Art Online, they are special moves that are activated by going through specific motions during battle.
  • Some Skills have special qualities compared to normal, they can be more precise, or apply a malus on the enemy, or apply a status effect, or etc.
  • Can be "chained" one after another in succession, but Honda probably can't do more than one or two in a row currently.
  • Most have separate cooldown timers, though some skills that are similar in nature might also share cooldowns.

Climbing Floors
  • In order to simulate the increasing strength/difficulty of higher floors, there will be malus applied to the player character for each floor he climbs.
  • [STR], [DEX] and [CON] will receive a -5 malus per floor climbed.
  • Equipment will receive a -1 to -3 malus per floor climbed beyond where the equipment was originally found.

[X] Plan Forewarned Is Forearmed

I like this plan cause of the pun, and it also upgrades our current named equipment. I'll change plans if someone creates a better one.

[X] Plan: We don't need teammates, but upgrades.
-[X]
Go shopping!
--[X ]15 Basic health potion
--[X]2 Simple throwing spears
--[X]Attempt to upgrade Armor (4000 for 80% chance)
-[X] Complete some of the quests that you have. (You can specify the order of importance)
--[X] Kill the Great Frenzy Boar.
Somewhat Dangerous. Very high reward.
--[X] Collect some herbs for the apothecary. Very Safe. Basic reward.
-[X] Contact Argo. She might want to know about your freaky cave adventurer.
-[X] Visit the Monument of Life. Remind yourself of why you are fighting.

One close call (and the OP admitted that it was, because he understated the difficulty of the quest.) and suddenly everyone wants teammates. People we make good money for the time being, because we're soloing.

Money's no good to the dead. And that was a relatively easy mission, made hard because solo.
And we're looking at a set of Hard missions next. We'd literally die

So wait the King in Yellow is an monster equal in level to us? Could we have completed one of the conditionals for battle healing and only need to reach lvl 10 to unlock it? Or is it be at least lvl 10 and have red health?

3. Yeah.
Yay!
Ooh, does that mean that pikes have more than 10 ft reach? I'm not sure what we would do with it, but it sounds like something that would be good to know.

[X] Plan: Stay Stabby, but from the back.
-[X] 6 points into Str
-[X] Collect some herbs for the apothecary.
-[X] Adventurers needed to protect me on the way to the next town!
-[X] A new dungeon had been discovered nearby! Adventures required to explore it!
[X] Kill the Great Frenzy Boar.
-[X] Go shopping! (Click on the link to go to the prices. Specify exactly what you are going to buy)
--[X] Upgrade Forewarn - 90% chance, 4500 Col
--[X] Fishing Tackle - 500 Col
--[X] Tinderbox - 100 Col
--[X] 10x Basic Health Potion 75*10 -> 750 Col
-[X] Contact Argo. She might want to know about your freaky cave adventurer.
-[X] Contact Kishi, it'd be great to have someone watching your back on quests going forward.
--[X] If Kishi wants to tank, offer to let her use the shield. You're best fighting behind the lines anyway.
--[X] See if she knows anyone else who might want to come with. You had a close call yesterday
-[X] Complete some of the quests that you have. (You can specify the order of importance)
--[X] Do the escort mission first, then hit the dungeon if you're still good afterwards. Once you have a good sense of how to work together, take on the great boar.

No, we never saw the level color. However, it is a freak monster that is elevated on a tall pillar at the bottom of a nigh bottomless pit. It probably can pull a Cthulhu and just kill a dice result of people a turn. The King in Yellow is Lovecraft level territory, and with that comes madness and reality-wrecking power.

If they even bothered to give it a color, it's probably very very black. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy above our level.
Looking at the colors, we really, really lucked out by not dying.

Should we really give her our shield though? That seems like a naive idea to me, considering that we don't really know her that well yet. Heck, she might even steal it for all we know!
I think you quoted the wrong person, but you have a point. I'll push for this once we get to know her better. And once we find out if she actually wants to be a tank.

[X] Plan Find Some Meat Shiel--I Mean Teammates

<Spear Thrust>/<Javelin Throw> will be recharged in 2 rounds!
Oh all sword arts are on the same timer? Good to know, I didn't realise.
Goddamn, I actually can't believe these rolls happened. How the heck am I supposed to write this?
Dice do like to mess with QM's
Congratulations! You beat a nigh impossible encounter!
Gained: 7500 Col!

...

The Quest: An elderly townswoman has lost her family heirloom ring has been Completed!
You gained 1000 col!
Whoever balanced this quest deserves to be thrown into the game.

Also can we upgrade our armour twice? Because we've got the money to go for two 90%'s. Personally I'm just generally leaning away from playing mechanically optimal and I just want to show Honda freaking out and dumping all points into Con, armour and HP pots.

Huh. I would have thought that each Sword Art has its own cool down seeing as you can canonically chain two arts together if you're good enough. Would also be cumbersome to use SAs at higher levels too, probably.

Also
[X] Plan Find Some Meat Shiel--I Mean Teammates

THe faster we kill things, the better. Our Armor is good enough for most mobs slightly stronger than us.

[X] Plan Dodge Combat

This seems like a good plan especially since it should make it easier to dodge if I understand the mechanics correctly.
