Day 23, End
"I think it might be useful to just expand the guild." You were talking it over with Kitan - and Fluffy and Dark Blade were there. "They offered that barracks when I got that coupon for a free upgrade. It'd be enough space to invite all the researchers in. With any luck they'd be happy to take that as a reward." You had hesitated to take them in before - you wanted room in the guild for when you found more of your fans, or for when your fans found you. But in the wake of all this, it seemed useful to have some of the researchers helping if only with looking things up. And it was a good excuse to put money into the guild hall.
"I'm not completely against it. But there's a chance that some of our combat team may want to convert into a similar role. I know quite a few of the members would rather not fight if they had a choice." While fluffy just nodded along to your plans, Kitan seemed fine with pointing out some of the flaws of it, "We don't exactly have the funds to be feeding endless mouths either. Even with our discounts, it's not going to be cheap if we're hiring every single one of them on."
"We could share with them some of the information on quests though. I mean, if the slimes are mostly gone, and we were asked to pick flowers for the herbalist... maybe they'd be willing to go out and do that kind of thing?" You gave a big smile as you thought of that plan, "I mean, mostly the slimes were only scary because there were like... five or six of them at a time. But now it's like one or two, and they're never near the road. So maaaybe we can just push that."
"Fair. I don't have any complaints about it." He gave a nod. "What were you thinking with the rest of the quest reward? I think people were looking forward to their cut, but it probably wont be too large after that."
"Wellll... if we're already getting work done... why not do a little more? I mean, the guild is something that benefits everyone. The better our hall is, the more bonuses." You were just a liiiittle sheepish as you suggested using all the money on the guild hall, "Plus, aren't you tired of like, it feeling so empty and boring?"
"I sure am!" Fluffy yelled it happily, nodding her head many times.
"...I suppose no one can complain too much, as long as we make improvements that are useful. I'd prioritize something like our defense rating then. Additional stats while in the region will be useful. Or maybe upgrading the training field - I know a few people have been making good use of it. Skill levels seem as important as stats, if not more so."
"We can figure that out when we get there!"
-----
Goto Sharp was the closest thing to a merchant 'contact' you'd made. You spent extremely little time bartering thus far, but the human seemed exceedingly straight forward to deal with once you'd proven you weren't some terrible person. He lit up when you walked in - "If it isn't the hero of the hour herself. Come in, come in. Excuse me for not getting up, I threw out my back when I heard the news, hawhaw!" He laughed from his seat near the counter - it'd been less than an hour since you reported your success to Akane, but it seemed like everyone already knew, based on how people had turned to look at you as you walked through town. Or maybe that was the effect of your still donned heavy armor. "What can I do ya for today?"
"Well, I was hoping to make some more improvements to our guild's home." You said it with a big smile on your face, as you moved to stand near to the counter, "And since your contacts did so good last time with the Shogun's Writ, I figured you were the best person to ask about it. I really wanted to get a barracks made, first of all. Like, not the one that's already there. But an additional one. You know, the special one you offered last time?" You rambled a little.
The old man stroked his chin at that, "Well, we could definitely do that. We've got supplies coming in again, but honestly building supplies ain't something we ever really ran low on." There was a twinkle to his eyes, "A barracks is a good fit for that ol' guard house of yours too. Working off the current stuff, we'd be able to do a good bit of work and probably make something even nicer than usual. Yeah, yeah. That'd be good. I could get it done for about... five thousand." He nodded his head. "For you, that means four and a half though. Can't let the person who saved my business pay full price. Can't go any lower though - I still gotta pay all my guys."
"Great! I also was thinking we might do some other upgrades, while you were at it. I mean, if you can do multiple projects at once?" When the old man gave a dip of his head, you continued on without needing him to talk, "I mean I wasn't really sure what I should do. But maybe some better walls to keep people out? You know, improving the defensibility. Oooor maybe upgrading the training field the Guards left us with."
"There's a lot of options, that's for sure." The old man nodded his head a few times, "Nothing wrong with some nice sturdy walls. You might be in the middle of town, but it can provide a lot of assurance. And if you wanted to hire some more muscle, you'd need room for them too. I could do that for, eh... thirty six hundred for you. Training grounds a little harder, cost you a bit more - but we've all seen your group, and they'd probably make good use of it. Improving it - or just going all in on a better barracks would be... hm, about twice as expensive as the walls for either."
"Lots of other options too. A library to help out with your priest's studies, or maybe a servant's hall so you could hire some help for keeping ya'll fed?" He rubbed his beard, "I know a few servant families lookin' to hire their kids out and get them started who'd leap at the chance to work for the town's saviors. There's always the option of shrines - build one to your grandma, maybe she'll bless you with something special, or we could put in some proper production facilities for people to work at. Not many of your kind who wanna do hard labor like making stuff, but I bet if you made a facility for it, the locals might be willing to help out with teaching."

All of the gold will go to improvements, until you can't afford any more. Feel free to use approval voting for this one, it's just gonna be a straight majority.
You have gained the Guard Barracks improved special feature. A barracks normally provides +20 slots at rank 1. Synergies with your home's basis caused it to grant an additional +5 capacity, providing you 25 additional slots, and an equal number of extra beds.
